    Appreciate your personal experiences between these two pads. I also have both and find them comfortable down to about freezing. One correction: the xlite, xtherm and uberlite are actually all insulated with their reflective film.

    Me, I'm sold on the S2S Ether Light XT Insulated (specifically the large Rectangular version as I'm fairly tall and have rather wide shoulders). That thing is so very comfortable. Sure, it's far from the lightest, but the energy (and morale) boost from a good night's rest is plenty of compensation for that.

    The Exped Schoozle pad pump fits the Tensor valve (well enough, at least.) The medium UL version weighs 2.0 oz on my scale. It can be used as a pack liner, but isn't waterproof. I use it for my quilt and clothes instead.

    I live in Ukraine and have never been to the USA. But I noticed that a lot of travelers in USA use colder things. I think this is due to the drier climate. When it is wet, it is very cold. I recently used an RV 3 rug on the river bank and it was a little chilly.

    This video reminds me of why I use my pack liner to inflate my pad 🤣 BTW the Xlite and Xtherm both use the same "insulation" the Xtherm just uses three layers vs one in the Xlite.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

    Using Nemo Tensor uninsulated. Same tip: Get the wider version! 💯 On regular width elbows tend to hang outside the pad and catch cold.

  • @tj6111

      The pump sack is suppose to keep the moisture from your breath out of the pad and help prevent mold. At least that’s my understanding of it. 🤷‍♂️

    • @aurtisanminer2827
      @aurtisanminer2827 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll never go back to not using a pump sack. They keep moisture out of your pad which does prevent mold and mildew and they hold heat better with dryer air inside them. Another benefit is your pad gets filled with cool outside air. After blowing up a pad with your warm breath it will cool down inside the pad and cause a drop in pressure after letting it sit.

    My nemo tensor alpine wide is 26 oz with the stuff sack it came with. Its R value is 4.8. It is 3 inches thick and 25 inches wide...so worth the carry weight for being a side sleeper. Doing some section hiking in the mountains where in the summer it can get in the 35f to 40f degree range. So worth the comfort to carry it. My total pack with food and water will be 25 to 27 pounds. It will be fine considering I could do 40 pounds for my height. Rather not but I think 25 to 27 with my nemo and my Helinox chair zero as comfort items will be fine.

  • @danielkutcher5704
    @danielkutcher5704 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since all air pads are airtight, don't you get sweaty in hot weather since you're essentially sleeping on a plastic bag full of air? I'm a hammocker and sleep on a closed cell 1/2", half-length pad (the "frame" of my frameless backpack) whenever I use a shelter or camp tarp-style where there are no trees. It was hot on top of Max Patch last week! My back got sweaty! In the hammock, I can choose to have cool air surround me when I sleep.

  • @PeteBraginton

    Blowing all that moisture into these laminated pads is a bad idea. Trapped moisture in a waterproof/airtight grows bacteria & breaks down the lamination over time. The NeoAir pocket inflator is well worth it. No extra moisture or lightheaded feeling. Also, it allows time to do other camp setup stuff....it takes care of itself! 👍
