I feel bad for Francesca Hayward (and for basically everyone in the movie - but especially her) because she’s insanely talented and this was meant to be her big break and it flopped.
It's still her big break and the publicity hasn't been against her performance - she carried the show and is the only one who can't be criticised or questioned as to why she agreed to do it! Now we all know who she is and her acting, vocals and dancing were beautiful performances. We'll definitely be seeing more of her and the offers will be pouring in. She was literally the only good thing about this film. 🤩

@@exquisite3376 The design choices, etc. are reminiscent of when 'The Great Gatsby' was redone (that was still not a bad film). This version of 'Cats' is a "black" production, though. Characters race and gender swapped, the music, the choreography, etc. are from a hip hop kind of direction.

But using real cats wouldn't show much expressions. I watched the live action version of the Lions King and having realistic animals kind of ruined the movie. Imagine if the cat people were replaced with animated cats. Adorable and more emotions would be shown than with realistic cats

The time of people seeing movie musicals of actual musicals is over. Film it live on stage with an actual audience. It worked for Legally Blonde, Rocky Horror, RENT (the movie was terrible), Kinky Boots, Falsettos, Company, Shrek, The King and I, Miss Saigon, She Loves Me, Follies, Billy Elliot, Gypsy, Newsies....I know I'm missing a few. None of them are box office smashes but the people that care appreciate them, pass it down to their kids, etc. They become successful to the market that would actually pay to see it live if they could afford it or live close enough.
Lets not act like the movie failed because of some technological impossibility, it failed because the people in charge didn't plan the whole thing out before setting a release date.
Don't get me wrong it wouldn't have been a great movie but it at least didn't have to be a monstrosity.
