    In short, if you have an amp you love, and a pedal board that works, you can add this in and never want for another sound or tone again... Line 6... You may be on to something great here! I use my HD500x for just effects now, and this is a huge leap forward. I think you folks at Line 6 have been listening.

      Line 6 has had the M-Series Multieffects boards (have a professor who swears by the M-13). They've just updated the engine to the one running the Helix.

      you can, and if it is anything like my helix you can move the fx loops around per snapshot, so you could have an OD you love in front of certain effects in one snapshot and move it somewhere else in another

    This is what I want. I love the idea of the Helix, but I don't need a bajillion amp tones. I'd really only buy it for its effects catalogue, so spending so much money on it to get something I don't need doesn't appeal to me.

    The Modulation effects sound incredible. I am less taken with the drive effects. They sound like a pedal to me. But maybe in a room, through an amp the drive effects are more convincing. What is the length limit of the looper? ..and what is that tele in the first part of the demo? Sounds great!

    Hey, I’ve got a couple questions.
    1) Are you able to have it so when you select a different button, it automatically turns the previous one off instead of having 2 effects on at once?
    2) Can you set presets to turn on/off your actual physical pedals too like a looper button would?

    • @jamess8373
      @jamess8373 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      johnpickk yes to both, turning off physical pedals would need to be done through the effects loop.

    I see most of his reverbs in this video are the old Legacy reverbs. I have tried all of the newer verbs and they all sound gritty and modulated. I find myself never using the new ones. I love Legacy Plate a lot and Legacy Hall. I can use them very wet and they still sound good. For ambient and lush though, I use a Strymon Blue Sky. SO MUCH BETTER!

    I have had the HX for about a year. I also have a board with some of the actual boxes emulated (Klon, Fender Reverb Unit, Slow Gear, PN-2, DM-2). It sounds very good but L6 support is terrible and it won’t channel switch my Soldano. Even sent it L6 and they said they fixed it and it doesn’t work. Good for taking to places you wouldn’t want an expensive board and easy to move.

    • @danielbell4007

      Robert Simpson I know that for the main helix amp/effect models they went through and wrote code to simulate every single component in the circuits, which is why they sound so good. Now as to whether or not you can tweak the parameters of those individual components I’m not sure... that would be insane!

    I create tracks all day... and used to use Pod Farm 2 to go thru hundreds of cool presets looking for inspiration for the next part I was tracking. There were so many cool fx chains (and song/artist styles) people made to download free, so there were hundreds of tones/sounds I would have never dialed in that I could use. Now I'd like to add something on my studio pedalboard ...to add that kind of variety of pre-made flavors I could use for my recordings. Does the HX Effect allow me to load up a bunch of presets like that... and do they still offer a forum to find & download for HX Effects? I use a Kemper for most amp tones now so that part is not needed. Thanks!

    I have used line 6 for so many years , From Verbzilla & Echo park pedals to M-13 , that one is a work horse! My question - can one get the "Steel String" clone effect of the dumble on the HX ? I have the HX and rather than torture myself with the overdrive section which btw , They should lower all the gain@ the factory , unless you enjoy loud 4 feet away from your ears while trying to find a suitable overdrive .ha ha its crazy ! thank you , you always do great demos ,good for you :)

    I am really interested in buying this unit to use in front of a clean Fender HRD (my go-to amp for clean tone, that I use at least 50% of the time). My big concern is: does the Helix HX changes the basic tone of the amp when bypassed? Or should I use a buffer, specific settings, change the amp EQ etc?

  • @VictorLee335

    That Classic S sounds really good... Modulations from the unit are really luscious as well. This will sell a TON. At $599, IR hosting capability alone is worth the price of admission. Add in the amp channel switching, lots and lots of possibility. You could design a pedalboard that can be used with your regular amp rig (mono or stereo) or a direct rig with a preamp of some sort.

    I use my Digitech GSP1101 exactly for this: Virtual stompboxes in front of my real tube head. Multi FX, Wah, Compressor, Noisegate, EQ in the effects loop. All in one unit. Advantage of this: Only one CAT5 cable to front of stage (Control 2 floorboard, phantom powered). Disadvantage: No amp switching without additional device, stompboxes can't boost.
    This new Line6 is very similar and like a prototype for future modellers: They will model everything, but not the tube sound. That will come from devices like the Synergy Syn-2.
    What i don't like about the Line6 is that it is in pedal form and needs multiple cables run to front of stage and it does not have a wah pedal. The BIG question about it is: Is the send jack behind the fuzz pedals able to boost the input of the a tube amp, like real pedals can? If not, this is not really a step forward and my Digitech can stay where it is, i just switch the amp model section to "external amp" and it does the same.
    It seems strange to me that this kind of use for modellers is the best idea ever to get the best of both worlds and make any amp multi channel, but no company does it right. Wether it lacks true bypass or the virtual overdrive pedals can't boost, or the sheer amount of cables, power supplies and expression pedals immediately give me back my stompbox-park feeling, or the damn amp switch is missing - the perfect digital device to "wrap around" my tube head via 4 cable method has not been made yet.

      The other big difference is that if you want to set this to 6 drive units you can. This also has preset mode. You can set up to 9 effects to each button, and set them up as clean, crunch, lead, and ambient...or whate e presets you would use

    • @briantost7125
      @briantost7125 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      peterv25 unfortunately, using the fx loops in any capacity increases hiss and buzz and compresses. It’s enough for me to render them both utterly useless. I eventually just started using HX drives and fx straight into a high headroom non master volume combo amp. Everything sounds great like this but I have serious doubts about its performance with a high gain amp with 4 cable method.

    Apparently univibe, just as particular drives, is REALLY tough to emulate, 'cause I am yet to see anybody doing it properly. I have Kemper and univibe there is just horrendous. This one is better, but just a tiny bit. The rest of effects sounded really decent to my ears.

      Even real univibes sometimes would have a hard time emulating other univibes. Component tolerances were all over the map, as well as the lightbulb used would react differently new vs used, as well as temperature affected how it reacted.

      Let's be honest, the effects in the Kemper as a whole are pretty shite. I love the amps but the effects are really nowhere near the same quality. The pitch effects especially are absolutely crap. Running an HX Effects with it looks like a great setup except for having to run cables again :( I wish Kemper would invest in upgrading the stomps, they jumped ahead but now they're standing still while the world catches up.

      Joris Griffioen I'd say most effects are fine for me, I only hate univibe and find reverb quite unsophisticated. I absolutely love Kemper anyways. It's amazing how a 4-year old device is still the best digital amp available.

    Andy could make playing a rubber band strung garbage can sound like Lez Zeppelin live at the Royal Albert Hall. Question - does the HX effects contain all the new pedals with 2.8 software release and will that be the case for future software releases? I realize amp and cab modeling wouldn't apply to the HX but I'm talking about pedals and potential other future greats. As long as its a common standard 120v/ac amp cable, im fine with that. I can't keep track of all the digital pedals that need non standard 9v DC, and if you use the wrong one with reverse polarity or not enough milliamps etc. you risk frying a circuit/resistor etc.

    • @danielbell4007
      @danielbell4007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t think that the quality of the sounds has a lot of progress it can make. Things sound about as real/good as they can at this point, I think the improvements will come in how we interface with the effects and the processing speed. Even with amp modeling, between Kemper, Atomic, Helix and the rest, amplifier modeling is already pretty spot on. So much so that when it’s done right, anyone not lying to your face can’t tell the difference between analog/modeled. The only improvement with modeling would be the “amp in the room” sound.

      That’s what I’m seeing too. The only thing I would take would be the scribble strips. Other than that i don’t think you’d be able to tell a difference between this and an M9. I don’t know about the drive sounds though. I never liked them on the M9 but maybe they are better on this thing.

    • @BrockDavisson
      @BrockDavisson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there's more difference then just m9 sounds. Remember there's helix sounds in this too which is much better sounding the the m-series. So not only are you getting all the m-series effects, but also the upgraded new helix effects too.

    • @tdz69
      @tdz69 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brock Davisson is have to check I️t out for the new effects that the M9 doesn’t have. Other than that I can’t see any upgrades on the M9 sounds alone to be worth it. No one will tell the difference at a gig anyway.

      Tim Volk I’ve had the HX for 8 months. There are many fuzzes I’ve stayed away from. The Muff Pi Fuzz sounds amazing for my needs. I’m in a 90s alt rock cover band and there are a LOT of great sounding tones in this. Germ fuzzes are not necessarily my thing either, even analog. Closest thing I liked was a fuzz face and I haven’t found anything that was really that close in this.

  • @firdausHITMAN

    Interesting the even Andy can't really make this sound good ... I have Pods from XT bean to HD Pro Rack - but with so many great new pedals avaialble now it's not really possible for one company to nail everything. I hear improvements in the modeling, but not the wow factor i'm hearing in many or Andy's other demos of seperate pedals.

  • @THEQueeferSutherland

    • @BrockDavisson
      @BrockDavisson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Sorry but the only stupid thing is you calling it stupid. If you haven't tried it, then you wouldn't know. It's 2018, welcome to the world now or get left behind. The way technology is today, 90% of people couldn't tell you if they used a real effect/amp/cab on a record or "stupid multi-effect" ;)

    • @THEQueeferSutherland
      @THEQueeferSutherland 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not like I'm opposed to digital, I'm opposed to being stuck in the effects provided in one single device as opposed to having multiple different pedals you can swap out to configure the right sound for yourself. If you don't like the reverb sounds on the device, tough shit, that's what you have on it. I'd rather pull that off my board and get a different reverb.

    • @BrockDavisson
      @BrockDavisson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's why theirs multiples of different effects. Something in there will surely work if you give it a chance and hey there's also built in send/return on the back where you can slip in your favorite pedal along with it and place it anywhere in the chain too ;)

    • @THEQueeferSutherland
      @THEQueeferSutherland 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But what if you have a Fuzz pedal and a Reverb you want to add externally. If there's only one send and return, you can only insert that loop somewhere in the chain and what if you want delay of the unit before the reverb but after the fuzz? Then you want OD before the fuzz. It's just the type of situation having different pedals with a looper solves.

    • @BrockDavisson
      @BrockDavisson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This multi-effect has 2 send/returns... you can route your non time based stuff into one and your time based ones into another ;) now line 6 full helix and rack has 4 send/returns for even more options and yes they can be moved around anywhere in the chain. So if i have a overdrive I want in the send/return to be after the overdrive in hx effects or helix, then I have the option of moving it after/before or whatever, same with time based stuff etc..
