I really resonated with you when you said you’d previously been advised to take this medication but refused in fear, because this happened to me as well.
I’m 20 now and I’ve been struggling with cystic acne and hyperpigmentation since I was 10. Now I even have some minimal scarring.
I’ve gone through bullying, self-hatred , depression, and even accepting that I would never be nowhere near perfect skin in my life. It is pretty rough, and it is something only people who have gone through this can understand.
I’m in a self love journey now, because I’m tired of feeling so low all the time, and now have met a new dermatologist who has told me he sees me and understands me finally has given me the confidence to start on accutane safely. Deep down I’m terrified it won’t work, but because I’ve tried everything else that is available throughout the years with no results, I really want to take this step forward for myself.
Tysm for showing your journey, how vulnerable acne can make somebody feel and how you can finally rise from the ashes.

Your comment, “I’ve made it to the other side of acne” is priceless. I get all your emotions! I’m currently on accutane and I am 44. I wish I would’ve taken it a decade or two ago as well but like you I had fear and I never thought it was severe enough but it has taken a big toll on me. I never leave the house without makeup and I’ve missed out on some of my life because of it. I would tell the younger generation not to hesitate but also to be responsible when making the decision to go on it. That’s what I can confidently say now is that I’m done having kids and have no reservations taking it. I make healthy decisions in the area of life style choices, I’m married with kids and don’t drink and follow all the guidelines. Acne is not worth holding back your life and accutane is there to help us get the other side of this.

I started on 20mg in September then 40mg in October and I'm now on 60mg which is my third month but alternating to 80 mg every other day as directed by my dermatologist. Side effects I get are dry lips, joint pain, backache, drowsiness, tiredness.....but they're tolerable. One side of my cheekbones is already smooth like butter. 👍🏾

Girl I looked at my ears and I just saw a bit if dryness. I didn't know until you said it happened to you. I'm on Isotretinoin nou aswell. And I quickly looked at the back of my ears too. There one ear had a bit more dryness. I was shook girl. I never had dry ears. So I quickly grabbed my moisturizer and I slammed on it like a maniac 😂😂😂

Did you get any skin darkening? I'm (re)starting tomorrow and that was the one side effect that just killed me the last time (I didn't finish my first course).

I started my accutane medication last week and on day two, I started getting pain on my upper left part of my chest with mild headaches. Is this a normal side effect or is it a sign my body can’t handle accutane?

I would definitely recommend calling your dermatologist and discussing bc everyone’s body and dosages are different. I experienced slight headaches and upper back pain, but communicated with my derm to make sure that was normal for my body/dosage.

I'm 17yr old (high school student), I've been suffering from acne for almost 4 years now, it really affected my lifestyle and appearance. Acne changed my personality, Acne destroyed me, I've been fighting against it for such a long time using various of products and none of them worked.
I visited a dermatologist 2 months ago (first time in 4 years) and he prescribed me some medications including Isotretinoin (Roaccutane). I had no clue whatsoever about this capsule nor about its side effects. I'm currently on my second month with this capsule, although I stopped using Isotretinoin for a week after my first *box* was finished, it didn't take long (2days) before my skin completely changed its path in an unimagineable way, I started getting the worse acne I could think of but thankfully I visited another dermatologist and she treated and currently does as her son, I did some blood tests and was given the green flag to continue with Accutane. I'm currently on low doses 10mg during Moday-Friday and 20mg during weekends, the side effects are slight and hopefully there will be more improvement upon my skin.
Note: Pretty sure you've heard of it already but I'm just reminding you to drink lots of water, I mean alot!!
