it is incredibly annoying to have to explain how acne has affected my mental health. people have been telling me "no one notices" or "you're gonna have a mask on anyway" they don't understand how it works for us! it is the root of my depression and anxiety. i refrain a lot from social situations just because i don't want to show my face. people that have never dealt with this do not understand and it is so frustrating for people to try to give me advice on it.
Yess ,it does triggered my mental health . People around me keep on saying ‘it wasnt a terrible breakout ,just wash your face using a clean water’ . Yeahhhh as if i wash my face using the dirt all this while 😒😂 i’ve never been in breakout in my whole life, this is the first and it has been 6months now . I’ve done everything that i could ,spend all my money seeing a few dermatologist but yahhh 😭 its such a frustrating when people around make fun of me saying that i’ve spend so much money but still look ugly 😭😭 i’m dying inside 😭
I took Accurane 20 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. My skin cleared beautifully within 3 months and the acne never came back. My only wish is that I would’ve taken it earlier and saved myself from depression it caused throughout my teenage years and into my 20s.
@Abubakr #Apostate i kno im rresponding late but pls take it, it absolutely changed my life and cured my depression the only side effects are drry skin and lips. its so worth it!! good luck
@@Fthhtuu Can you guys plsss answer my questions? So basically I'm 15,am I too young to get accutane?Isn't accutane too expensive? Will accutane affect my health? Will it work for me if I have genetic cystic acne?
I love dogs i would recommend going to a dermatologist! i started taking accutane at age 16 (almost 17) i have been taking it for 3,5 months now (low dose) and it’s helping for sure! i have a lot of hyperpigmentation and scars but rarely get pimples anymore
"Acne is a disease that has profound effect on an individual's wellbeing. It is an incredibly depressing disease to have. It really affects an individual's mood. Period. Ok?" Dr Dray, I've replayed that more than 10 times and started tearing up. I never saw it as a disease, but a vain and self-absorbed issue, as people like to paint it that way. Finally being heard, understood and validated for being so emotionally affected by acne is so comforting. Thank you. She says this at 17:54
This is a fast and useful study. I`m recommending this acne guide *AcneCureOnline. Com* to my friend who will start their acne remedies to achieve a clearer skin. Very much liked this and appreciated the insight into how my inside issues can affect my skin.
Exactly, the dermatologists i met so far always wanted to kick me our after 5-10minutes withour giving me solid info why i am having akne and how the specific treatment will cure my disease, waste of time and money etc
I went on Accutane a year ago because my acne got to the point where I couldn't leave my house anymore. I felt so much better after Accutane, I can't even describe how amazing it was for me.
Does accutane have to be prescribed by a dermatologist? Can a doctor prescribe it too? Where i live it takes years to get an appointment with a dermatologist and it’s wayyy out of my budget:( i tried every product out there for acne and i cant get rid of it:(
Blushem I don’t know about Canada but in the UK a general doctor can’t prescribe it; they must be referred to a dermatologist who can then prescribe it but there are long waiting times. If I wanted to bypass the waiting, id have to go private
AnTiDotE X my skin better than ever and never looked more youthful. I get compliments all the time on my skin. I don’t get why you’re trying to spread all this over exaggerated information that doesn’t happen to most people. Like you should be smart when taking accutane. I’m not an expert but if you already have other skin problems/health problems then idk if you should take accutane. And also you should always start off with a low dosage not going in full blast. Stop freaking people out with some bull crap. Most people that take accutane take it because nothing else works for them.
AnTiDotE X it sounds like you have a bad experience from it and has been traumatizing for you. I get that you’re insecure but stop trying sound like a know it all and like you’re some top notch dermatologist everyone knows and bow down to😂😂. Like you said people constantly contact you everyday seeking answers. Like just stop seriously 💀. And see my skin isn’t damaged or anything it’s perfect! You said this drug is in humane when there are far worst drugs out there. Get over your bad experience with it and worry about how to fixed YOUR DAMAGED SKIN
I love that you recognize how painful acne can be, both physically and emotionally. My psychiatrist won’t change my meds that potentially cause acne because “your depression might kill you, acne won’t” and it was so frustrating to hear. I’m depressed, at least partially, because my face hurts when I smile. Acne has been a huge contributor to my self esteem problems and social anxiety.
Can I ask you a question? What was your skin type like after taking it? Did your skin type return back to normal? For example, did your skin start out as oily and go back to oily after finishing accutane? Or was it normal/dry after finishing it? Really curious about this. I start next month!
This video was VERY helpful. Its always been very upsetting for me to see how the lack of good information has led so many peoples acne condition getting worse. I for one have had acne for years and have tried so many things and later came to find out were very bad for my skin. I applaud dermatologists who actually care enough about people, to make free public videos providing reliable information. We need more of this. thank you again
As a mental health practitioner, Dr Dray's explanation to acne-depression correlation is on point. Primarily, Accutane is usually prescribed only IF other products like adapalene or tretinoin did not work well with the person - then, this will be the last resort. To have this inference, this suggest that the person may suffered from acne for so long and already tried various products or means to resolve their issue however nothing works. Thus, this put them to have high risk to depression, for depression implies the feeling of helplessness.. the cycle of disappointment to varous products, frustration toward the self and and feeling of hopelessness, believing that at this point, nothing will work. Having "stubborn" acne can definitely lower the person's level of self-esteem. This is vital because when the self esteem is damaged, your view of yourself becomes dysrupted. That's when depression takes place. Another point is that since the person already has the potentials or tendencies towards depression, the purging state really sucks.. It will make the person feel unworthy again..
Literally the reason I haven't taken Accutane. After years of meeting my dermatologist and still having breaks outs plus depression. I do not want to go through that again lol I've seen the 1st month of Accutane.
I've been taking Absorica LD for Rosacea and - unlucky me - i got severe apathy to the point of feeling so worthless that I want to die. It's definitely the Accutane. That said, give it a shot lol. Seems like most pp r fine w/it. I don't regret taking it.
I seriously cannot express how much I love your content. I love how you address the mental health effects of acne on top of the physical effects. You have no idea how many people you have positively impacted
I took Accutaine when I was 20 and I was SO thankful I did! I had always struggled with acne and insecurities related. Looking back I did however become depressed while I was on the medication. It was gradual so I didn’t even notice how depressed I was. I became super isolated and only wanted to stay in bed. Never suicidal though. After I got off the Accutane my mood immediately returned to normal and that’s when I realizad that I did suffer with depression during that time. But I made it through. I honestly would do it again if I needed to. (Thank God I don’t!). Don’t let the scare of depression stop you! Just be conscious that it IS a legitimate side effect and you can get through it 💕
My dermatologist would only treat males when I saw this physician in 1977. It took me years to find out that it was eventually available to women. Both of my children were on Accutane in the 1990’s and it saved their skin. I’m so glad they didn’t have to experience the heartache of having acne and it saved them from scarring.
Craig, my kids took it before the advent of social media, haha. We just trusted our dermatologist to be straight with us. I’m so happy for you that you are getting treatment! I took Accutane in my 40’s and the only side effect I noticed was being a little tired and having dry skin, of course.
Craig, just remember to be kind to your skin and let the accutane do its job. Moisturize and don’t do anything crazy for the hyperpigmentation while you’re taking it. We have impaired skin barriers but medication, moisturizing and time will go a long way to heal. Oh and of course sunscreen 😉
"I am fan of Accutane; I think it's a great drug." These statemennts coming from you gives so much relief. Been pondering if I should take it. Thank you for this!!!
Doctors profit from prescribing drugs. They do not profit from talking about the approximately 6-10 % of people who experience serious sustained side effects. If there is one thing I could do differently in my life, it would be to refuse to take accutane when it was pushed on me as a naive teenager.
@@markbandalaria5267 there are so many because Accutane is essentially a systemic poison, having been designed as a chemotherapy drug. Chronic joint pain is common, digestive issues leading to IBS, detrimental effects to liver and brain function and especially to the prefrontal cortex...you can research.
@@markbandalaria5267 my side effects were severe depression, suicidal thoughts and hair loss that never grew back. There are thousands of people on forums that describe in detail the severe, sometimes life lasting side effects of accutane. It works for most, but if you are one of the unlucky ones to be hit with the side effects, I pray for those people.
@@sammariofan it was developed in the 50s. if we don't know about the biochemistry of a drug seven decades later, maybe it should not be commonly prescribed.

Accutane is the next step for me if spironolactone doesn't work. I've "exhausted all other options" according to my dermatologist LOL. My skin is finally clear after 4 months on spironolactone and I REALLY hope it stays that way. My skin tends to clear up for 1-2 years then freaks out again for a year.
I was on spironolactone for a few months and it kept my skin clear but I ended up having to go off of it because I had a bad reaction where my heart rate went up a lot. Now my skin is kinda bad again and I want to consider accutane because I’ve tried everything else
Yusra Fozi you should go into accutane ASAP you don't want those fucking pimples (acne) leave you scars man, that's why I hate my dermatologist because he gave me differents treatments (pills, creams etc) for 4 years and after he saw that shit wasn't working he finally put me into accutane and bingo but I have scars now 😧😧😧 I had scar revision and laser treatments but you don't want to go into that, it cost alot 😑
I finally had tried everything and went onto accutance at 36yr old. I wish more than anything i had done it when i was 16 or 26.. all those years of horrible cystic acne. :/
First of all, I wanted to say how I appreciate your videos. They have really helped me simplify my skincare regimen. Accutane was something I used for 6 months as a teenager, over 20 years ago, and I wanted to share my experience with it as I was one of those with a bad experience in the hopes that others who are interested in trying it (or having their children try it) know what to watch for, just incase they are in the apparently low percentage of those who react poorly. My triglycerides did spike, so much so that my doctor had me end my Accutane treatment early (I was originally supposed to stay on it for 9 months). Also, It is true that my skin condition was very upsetting to me and caused much sadness and depression, but my depression changed while I was on accutane. This is actually what I would advise parents of accutane teenagers to watch for the most. My depression turned from sadness into almost a manic, which for me was very dangerous. Please pay attention to your children's moods very carefully while taking this and offer them even more love and support during this time. :)
I took accutane 5 years ago for my cystic hormonal acne, it was the best thing I ever did!! It changed my skin from super oily to normal to dry!! It also made me avoid the sun like crazy and wear crazy amounts of sunscreen!! So I feel like it was definitely a great thing!! I now use retin a and I take amoxicillin 1000 Mgs a day!! I have maybe a little pimple once every few months!! I hope I can eventually just use the retin a and drop the antibiotics one day because I know they aren’t healthy to take for ever!!
My daughter did a full course of accutane when she was 15. It worked well for a while then came back. We did another full course and our doctor said it would be a 95% chance to never deal with acne again. It came back her freshman year of college worse than ever. The whole process was so frustrating to us. I know it's emotionally damaging and I spent so much money trying to get her help. Finally a dedicated esthetician helped her find a routine that is working. After watching your channel I realize what some of our problems were: switching products too often, using too much.... Some people binge watch Netflix. I binge watch Dr. Dray. 😊
I really hope things are going better for your daughter. The impact acne has on a person's life is tremendous. I would love to see more support groups out there
Mari, I’m taking my 15 year old to the dermatologist today. She is in 10th grade, had clear skin up until this year. Now she has acne, and she is so depressed and sad. It’s been a rough year. Tried all products, I think too much. I’m trying to stay away from oral meds for her, will see. Could be hormonal. Blood work next. Cleared all gluten and dairy from her diet. Gotta get her back on track and her self confidence and smile back:(
Stephanie Romano I hope it works for her. I think our frustration was that the doctor “guaranteed” results. The esthetician has been a godsend. After two rounds my daughter was disillusioned by the doctor. Wish we had Dr. Dray here.
Mari Cooke my dermatologist said that happens to a lot of teenagers and young adults but not so much with older people. I am hoping that is true since I am about to start taking it at 31.
I'm in my final month of this medication and it has worked wonders for me! Haven't had so much as a blackhead since about month 2. I do have hormonal acne so I am concerned about recurrence but I feel like I have control now and will see my dermatologist if it recurs. As for side effects, dryness was the worst but not unbearable and, as you mentioned, I avoided the dollar menu and adopted such a healthy diet that my triglycerides actually went down! Thank you for this video!
THANK YOU! Finally an actual informative video of Accutane and not someone reading reviews and claiming it’s an informative video. This was very educational. I used to say acne was a disease years ago and people would laugh at me so I just stopped talking about acne. We should keep talking about it more, we shouldn’t live in fear and insecure feelings, we should be able to face the topic as an empathetic people and work together to help each other. My best friend swears by Accutane and 15 years later, today I started my first dose. I’m not sure why I waited so long but I’ve seen the miracles it has done to people close to me and I’m ready for my turn.
I started accutane this month & my skin is already so dry buuut I’m not complaining because at least my oil production has lessened 😅 Also you remind me of my own dermatologist, whom I really admire 😍😍😍
Hi I started in October last year and it’s the last couple of days before I come off. It’s my second time round so very scared about a relapse. Any recommendations on what skin you will be using once you come off accutane? My dermatologist has provided me with adapalane to use straight after accutane. Medical evidence shows this stops the acne returning if it has returned in the past.
I have been following you (more or less actively) for years now, I think I first discovered you when I was 18 or 19, and I’m now 27 years old. You have always always always been the most reliable and I my opinion trustworthy source of information regarding skin care. I appreciate that so so much, thank you for still putting out content, being a guide for so many ppl and always staying unbiased and objective. Thank you so much. Love you, appreciate you, bye now haha.
''This is not a time when you can be relying on a McDonald's dollar menu, okay?'' You ALWAYS make me smile. Let alone feeling more educated about this or that.
I know some people believe accutane causes depression, but for me it was the opposite. Had severe depression and suicidal thoughts prior to going on accutane. Once my skin was clear, my depression lifted and I was so so much happier.
thank you so much for your words on acne being a disease and being incredibly depressing so many people think acne is just vanity issue but it is painful, physically and mentally. Ive been struggling for about 4 years and I am seeing a new derm to hopefully be put an accutane. I had acne in 2018 then it went away then this year it came back full force, all over my cheeks. I have tried just about every antibiotic and topical treatment and it'll have a slight improvement then within two weeks relapse even WORSE. Hopefully I can start it this month or next month. This video was super helpful !
I’ve binge watched your videos tonight! They’ve been so helpful especially as a viewer who is in college. It seems as if some dermatologists don’t empathize with their patients as much as they could. While understanding the need for a quick patient turn over, it’s nice to know there is someone out there that wish to help and educate others so they can take proper action for their skin concerns. Thank you!!!
Your videos have truly helped me. I suffer from pcos and when I got on Accutane 6 years ago, it completely cured my acne. My skin was clear until I recently started eating unhealthy foods. So, I will be starting Accutane again. You rock!
When I went to see a derm I was told to take accutane. At the time I was in my teens and seeing that booklet totally turned me off. The derm seemed un willing to head out my concerns and educate me on the reason for her diagnosis. I appreciate this video very much. More deems should be this informative when it comes to a major decision like taking this medication.
Great and informative video! I just started my first month of accutane and I just wish I had done it years ago after battling acne since 4th grade. I’m going through the purge and I’ve never been happier, “it’s working!”. Thanks for taking the time for making this video!
I recently started a treatment of isotretinoin. Before treatment, I was extremely nervous because of what I had heard about side effects, especially the potential effects on mental health. This video is so educational and really helped me feel so much better about starting isotretinoin and now I'm feeling optimistic and excited about the future of my skin, rather than scared and nervous. Thank you, Dr. Dray! :)
I used to hate myself, I was so embarrassed of my acne. Accutane and Tazorac cream saved my life. My insurance stopped covering Tazorac cream, I was told it was being used for wrinkles and it’s considered cosmetic so I would have to pay a lot. That ended my affair with Tazorac cream. I haven’t used Accutane in six years and it still continues to take care of me :). Thank god for Accutane!
This acne guide *AcneCureOnline. Com* is very useful for my daughter that is why she definitely love it. We have already expended a hefty amount of money trying various acne cures for over a year now but not one of them had worked. I am thankful that we`ve found out this guide. We observed an apparent distinction within a couple of days and within a few weeks her acne had cleared up.
When I say I want to go on accutane people around me are like “huh why? No! What about the side effects? Your acne is not even that bad” What people don’t realize is that I have had acne for the past 10 years of my life and I’m 20 now. 10 years with acne, especially during such a sensitive time as teenage years, has taken a really big toll on my mental health. The first thing people see about me is my face, and people more often than not judge you by your face. I could literally see people staring at my oily face, girls and boys would make fun of me and accuse me of being dirty and not washing my face. What they don’t know is that I have spent hundreds of dollars on treatments and products and wash my face daily with the best products, I have literally tried everything and it’s not my fault!! I’ve become so self conscious of it! I wanted to go on accutane when I was 17 but I was getting laser hair removal at that time and the dermatologist told me that I can’t take it. Today I booked an appointment for next Monday, and I hope the derma will prescribe it to me!
Spot on with the depression that those of us with acne suffer from. It makes me not want to leave the house and i spend so much time obsessing over my skin picking at it making it worse and then the shame cycle starts and i feel even worse. Im almost 30 this month and still suffering with severe acne, have pcos and endometriosis. Just now able to afford to get on accutane because I am paying out of pocket for the medication. I feel so heard by this. I am on my 3rd day of accutane at 40mg a day to start. Looking forward to a few months from now and hopefully see results. Thank you Dr. Dray
I would like to highlight that you are also not allowed to donate blood until 6 months AFTER you finish your treatment and its recomended to wait 1 year after finishing the treatment to do procedures such as electrolysis as it can increase your chances of scarring and sensitivity. USE SUNCREEN IN THE WINTER AS WELL AS YOU WILL BURN! IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE SPF ALL THE TIME! I took accutane in canada and this is what i was told/ read in the drug info pamphlet. I took accutane twice. I would reccomend to wait to take the treatment until you are an adult as i first did the treatment as a teen and had a relapse. When i was on the medication again, i had to get a lower dosage since i developed eczema but afterwards you should be just fine!
I had very bad acne when I was in highschool. That was indeed very difficult to cope with, was crying every day. After trying several dermatologists and treatments I finally found a dermatologist who helped me. I will never forget when he told me "do not worry, in 6 months you will be superbe!" I thought he was mocking me and honestly quite lost my hope for a miracle treatment. After 2-3 months my face was clearing but was also very lightful, i was starting to radiate. In 6 months my face was completely clean and I was indeed agreeing with the "superbe" promise of my dermatologist. I recognize everything Dr. Dray mentioned in this video. Must mention my doctor was doing monthly blood tests to keep me under control but I had literally no issue. It must be more than 15 years ago since my treatment and still no bad surprises. Hope my mesage gives some hope for people at the begining of their journey. Stay strong!
I had reaaaaally bad acne from 13 to 31, and with 6 months in accutane, it dissapeard! :). It was hard not being able to have a beer every weekend but now I see how worth it was :). Now I use tretinoin and dermapen and dermaroller to help my deep scars fade away!. Hope I can battle them one day :)
hi idk if you’ll see this lol i’m 4 years late but anyways i’m on my 5th month with barely any results and idk how it was for u but when did u start seeing results?
Thank you for mentioning diet! Accutane helped me profoundly in my 20s but as I aged (I'm 41 now) I've found a healthy diet has nearly eliminated ANY breakouts and improved my skin overall.
Very informative and I appreciate your passion for helping others. The way you characterize living with acne almost brought me to tears as it was spot on. Thank you.
I used it as a teen. It was amazing! The only thing that helped. I had nodule acne on my face and back. It was a hassle to get the drug. I needed monthly blood test and jump threw hoops to get the insurance to cover it. It all so dried my skin really bad. It was at that time started using aquaphor on my lips. Although i stopped the accutane probably about a decade ago, i never stopped the aquaphor daily.
I am so glad to hear you had a good experience with it! It is a great drug and helps many not have to suffer the devastating consequence of scaring nodulocystic acne
Shane what was the dosage u took, did u have any adverse/permanent side effects... I saw a lot of videos whetr people faced depression, severe anxiety, suicidal thoughts, back pains kind of after effects
I’m 43 and have not had clear skin since the last 23 years. Now that I’m finally done baby making and most probably developed antibiotic resistance from all the antibiotics, I am going on accutane. Hope it works fingers crossed
I have dealt with very oily acne prone skin and ultimately decided to give a session of Accutane a try. It was quite a transformative experience especially with my skin becoming soo much less oily. 😬I actually had to do a second session of the med, too, which kind of bummed me. However! I truly feel that I am seeing the benefits of the Accutane 10 years later! I am 45 now and I don’t regret seeing a BC dermatologist for going through Accutane sessions. I love your content and channel thank you 🙏!
exactly one year since i got started on isotretinoin now, completely cleared my severely inflamed bulging acne all over my forehead with minimal scarring
Thank you so much for making this video. I currently finished my first week of accutane, and am experiencing the dryness part only so far. Thank you for covering the hair loss part I was very worried. ☺️
I took Accutane for one month and I already saw huge effects on my skin. My pores became smaller and I wasn’t as OILY like before and it felt so great but since of it’s side effects (before taking it the dermatologist usually runs you on a test) I had an increase in cholesterol, my lips got really dry to a point where like I can barely talk cause it would crack (but I easily combat this with lip balms) ,and my nose starting to bleed every night so I stopped using it. Although my dermatologist said it depended on me if I wanted to continue but then she said something about having acute pancreatitis and that itself made me draw the line. I really wish I could continue Accutane cause my skin is just not in a good spot right now.
My 15 year old son is starting Acutane on Monday. He had baseline labs drawn today. The "side effects" talk with the doctor was scary but this video made me feel better.
My dermatologist made me start with a dose of 40mg and I weigh 43kg. Along with it she put me on DeltaCortef for a week. The dose messed me up so much, I was losing hair and eyebrows. My eyes got super dry, I had abdominal pain and it impacted my mental health.
I am watching this video religiously for the past month.. I will start with accutane in 20 days.. I am very nervous but I am anticipating it with joy because I really hope that this will do it finally. Thank you dr Dray.
I'm currently on an 8-month accutane journey and about half way through! I loved this video - so much solid information from a trusted doctor. My main concern is alcohol consumption on the drug. I'm 25 years old and find it so hard to avoid drinking. I've definitely cut down and no longer drink casually. I don't binge drink but on a night out with friends I will have a couple drinks. Every time I wake up after a night out I always feel so guilty because I've heard so many different opinions! I know you touched on this briefly but I was wondering if you could elaborate a little bit more on this. Thanks so much!
Virgo Mermaid same!!! I have my one month check in tomorrow! My skin is super red and burnt looking, but I haven’t gotten any new breakouts. Also my eyes are dry as hell, I have to use eye drops a lot.
Thank you so much for what you do Dr. Dray. I am 28 years old and I am finally ready to start Accutane, though I have a trip to Cancun in February so I'll start after that. You are absolutely right about the mental distress that acne causes. I don't wear makeup so my acne is always on display and I can tell people look at my pimples when I'm conversing and I get so self-conscious. I've cut dairy and reduced my sugar intake but still get painful cysts. I definitely need to change to a more plant based diet, since I already have high cholesterol. Once again, thanks!
I am planning to start Accutane soon and I just ordered two items from Coolibar (40% off sale items btw) in preparation for sun protection. Thankful for the informational and no nonsense videos. It is a joy to watch them. Thanks Dr. Dray! 😊
This video helped me soooooo much!!! Thank you for providing all of this information! I was very scared to start taking Accutane because of how dangerous people make it seem. This video really helped clarify everything and I am super excited to start taking it in May!
I have had acne rosacea for over 15 years (I’m 31 now). After years of taking different antibiotics which were a hit and miss, I decided to give roaccutane a chance. It’s been a month and I’ve noticed a massive improvement. I feel confident enough to leave the house without makeup on, that’s how clear my skin has become. My only worry and concern is that my acne rosacea will return once I stop taking the meds as rosacea is a chronic disease that doesn’t have a cure. 😔
I'm 27 and have been struggling with varying degrees of acne since then. I have heard so many rumors and horror stories and this completely put ne at ease. Most of my life has been skipping very important events because I've been so embarrassed of my huge cysts and postures. You're videos are so informative and I'm definitely going to try this once I can afford healthcare (thanks America). 🖤🖤🖤🖤
@AnTiDotE X I know accutane has caused a lot of really fucked up a lot of patient's bodies- I never said anything about not believing them. It's a personal choice- what I choose to do with my body is none of your business. Take several seats.
Hopefully TH-cam won't take this video down. Lately TH-cam has been doing stuff to videos mentioning Accutane. Probably because it fits under the "drug" category.
they approved it prior to me making it public (i request manual reviews for videos like this and this is why i film in advance, in the hopes that this will not occur)
Love this video. My son just started accutane and I googled it and was horrified at some of the peoples stories. Glad I watched this. I feel alot better now. Thank you
tammy sue 2016 I agree! Very scary things I’ve been reading! This video called me down about it. I’m supposed to start end of July. Good luck to your son!
my GP started me at 40mg, not only did i have to get prescription glasses because of the unbearable migraines due to an exacerbated astigmatism, and i lost a decent sense of night vision permanently. I had a very off feeling for a while but i dropped to 20 and then worked back up and was smooth sailing. That said, i would do it all over again. Made me feel so much more confident
Wow, I’m really late to this video. I’ve had my acne for about 10 years but it went totally crazy in the past 6, and I’m still not really sure why. I hate that I’ve wasted so much time but I kept having doctors tell me “it’s your bowel issues, so take these supplements” or simply treat me topically. I’m glad to have finally found a doctor who straightforwardly names my issue “acne” and suggested I treat it with oral retinoids. As for trauma, I’ve never really thought my acne is traumatizing me in any way. I’ve seen worse so I thought mine isn’t even that noticeable. However, when my doctor pointed out “wow, now I see how bad it is” when I smiled and my cheek acne became evident, that’s when I started questioning myself if I really went unaffected by it…
I took three courses of accutane. The acne was gone for the course duration, however it comes back a month after I stop the course, everytime. This is very dissapointing, I was very upset about it. I suffered from many side effects like sever headaches and damage to my hair. a lot of my hair fell out and it became very frizzy and brittle. It never went back to its previous state. I am thin and never eat fried food or peanut butter or fatty food. My dermatologist wanted me to go back on accutane for a forth time, but I refused. Why try the same medication a forth time if it failed three times allready? and I expressed how concerned I was about the side effects. He insited and said there is no other solution for me! That was really nice to hear. That was the last time I went to that Dr. I left and never took the perscription. this was three years ago. My hair is still damaged, it no longer grows evenly. the hair on the top of my head stops growing at shoulder length ! so I have to keep cutting my hair short. this is very strange. I stll have acne and a lot of scarring. I have also giving up on dermatologists and afraid to go back. I went with one problem and now I have two acne and damaged hair ! I have no words to describe how horrible my jurney have been with acne, I have had it since I was thirteen.
Acne is the CAUSE of depression. Period. I was in a phase when I really couldn't control that upsetting feeling of feeling really really ugly 😭😭😭 Hi Dr Gray, I have a question. Can you still use other acne products when on accutane? I am on accutane and I have dropped everything else but I still want to use my De La Cruz Sulfur on my cystic acne. I watched many accutane videos but no one seems to share whether other acne treatments like sulfur can still be used 😊 thank u!
I have a similar question, should I or not use adaplene+bpo gel when on accutane..n certain videos on TH-cam about adverse effects of accutane had scared me to hell... like depression, severe back pain joint pains and suicidal thoughts
@@ameerahdakota4076 hey... Wishing you best. My accutane journey has been good, did not face any adverse side effects..I've been off it almost 5months now..my skin has been good so far.. wishing u the best
I had hormonal acne in my late 20s early 30s and went on a light BC pill (not the Diane pill), just a light pill (not just because of that but because of severe PMS and menstrual issues in general too), and it helped my acne hugely, but it took a few months to get better. Meanwhile, I still had my topicals with me (antibiotics) until that was no longer necessary.
Hey Dr, I remember watching this a year an 1/2 ago when I was about to start my first dose, now I've been off it for a year but I never came back to say thanks. Videos like these really helped me, and some days on accutane and going to school with some of the symptoms were tough, at one point it looked like my whole arms had vitiligo and I'd show up with the dry skin and needing to explain to so many people why. Thank you :3
Dr. Dray thank you immensely for this video. I'm a mother of a 14 yr old boy who starts this medicine today and needless to say I've been very nervous about the side effects and all the hype. You answered many of my concerns and again thank u!
@AnTiDotE X thank u for your concern/input but I've done much research and also he is under stringent Dr.'s supervision and feel with his extreme case of cystic/nodule condition, this will benefit him not only physically (obviously) but also mentally as well. My prayers are being heard and I lift them up to the Lord.❤
I have mild-moderate acne since my teen years (now 26) and have tried an antibiotic, medicated topicals, Differin, salicylic acid, Benzoly peroxide, different creams, etc and nothing has worked. Finally went to see a derm and they suggested Accutane. Still deciding what to do - I get so scared from all the horror stories of long-term effects of the drug, but at the same time I’ve heard lots of good things too. I just want to have nice, healthy clear skin ☹️
I started my journey today and I can’t wait. I’ve waited 2 years for this so I just pray it works for me I am in so much pain :( thank you for this video it was very helpful!
Guys I’m 21, 1 month on accutaine, can’t get over that phantom regret of not taking the medicine 4 years ago. So many missed acquaintances and opportunities. Anyways I still got some years in uni left so i guess I should take the most of it as my skin clears up! It calms me that 21 is not the worst age for starting the treatment cuz many people go for it later. But man I still wasted time walking around with low confidence
After 100 visits to a dermatologist. I gave up. I used to get needles to my cystic acne. Tears down my face and the list goes on. My entire teen years lost. Went back 7 years later. No insurance.. Charged it on my credit card. Saved my life.
🥺❤️very informative and reassuring. i am considering finally going to deal with my skin issues with the help of the accutane and to hear dr.dray say she is a fan of the drug is very nice for me right now. i was suicidal and exhausted from acne many times in my life and i also developed quite severe anxiety- very much linked to how is my skin at the moment. also dermatillomania came to the mix and all the life stuff around that happens during the twenties is pretty hard-not to mention how it feels to go through life PLUS dealing with acne. all the exhaustion from trying to help yourself with skincare...i can totally understand why an individual who is experiencing the worsening of their acne during the first months on the drug can be having worsening of anxiety and depression and suicidal tendencies/ideations. to me it is very much "eh, duuuh". i am glad for this video being out here❤️
I suffered from hormonal acne and unfortunately it is genetic on my dad side- I took it for 7 months- I also didn't take birth control on this because I had horrible reactions to previous birth controls and addressed this to the Dermo. We came to the agreement of just abstaining from sex. Sure, this stuff got rid of my acne. But, came back after almost a year. It was a nightmare for me... I lost almost 3 quarters of my hair. So, I am the RARE case. And my hair is still somewhat healing from it- 3 years later. I have signs of premature arthritis from it. I was completely fine and living life to the fullest before accutane and it was such a HUGE change for my body once it hit my system after 3 months. It took a month and a half after that for my hair to start REALLY falling out. It was a struggle to go to work because my joints were aching so bad from lack of hydration in my body. I couldn't even go out into the sunlight for longer than 30 minutes, I knew about this and the joint soreness. I was light on sun exposure, but the joint soreness was something I had to somewhat endure. I was desperate and took this, but didn't realize the true damage it could do. Please be careful... if you are thinking about taking it.
I am almost 59 years old and I had pretty horrible cystic acne when I was in my teens in the 70’s. I regularly visited my dermatologist and he put me on tetracycline and would lay me down right under a sun lamp (!!!!) in his office. I didn’t have the option in those days of accutane. I think I just missed it. I am Really scarred on my back as a result (not to mention the UV damage). So glad that people have this option today (as long as they can tolerate it).
I’m considering starting a low dose. I’m almost 45. I’d be curious to know if you noticed any signs of accelerated aging due to the medication limiting sebum production. That’s my main concern about starting the medication.
Thank you so much Dr. Dray. You make me feel so comforted and I swear by everything on your channel. I wish you were my dermatologist💗 love from Sweden 🇸🇪
I've taken my Accutane for 3 months. my lips are dryer than before but other then that, everything is perfect. this medicine truly changed my life. no more acne and excess sebum!
Great video! I took 2 courses of Accutane and also used retin a at various times during my teenage years (without much success) and don't remember being diligent at all about sun protection. I can't help but wonder how much additional damage I've done to my skin by not using SPF early on. I also understand now why Accutane never worked for me because my acne is hormonal. Spiro has been a godsend for me! Love all of the detail in your videos, I feel like I'm actually making some good choices now!
You’re so informative! I love your videos. I was on Accutane for six months. She had me on 10 mg pushed me up to 20 then to 40 per day. Man you really feel it after the first two doses I had the dry lips right away. Never purged. Been off of it for two years starting to break out again I think it’s hormonal but nothing like my skin used to be. I get the occasional break out during my cycle. I watch my diet/drink a lot of water and took fish oil pills. Did wonders for me
Good luck everyone! This is my second course I’m on, 1.5 months in for my mild acne. Mild become moderate over the 1.5 months but know it will get much better. I get how this can effect your self esteem, I present to large audiences on a daily for my career and you just have to push through the purge. You’ll be happy you went on this miracle drug
Yes PIE!! I can't wait! I feel like not a lot of specialists, that I'm aware of, discuss it. The ones that do say laser is the only effective solution as of now. I've been recommended to go on Accutane twice by my dermatologist since I have pretty terrible hormonal acne and my scars take ages to fade. I've just always been hesitant and hope I can finally find a routine that can help my hormonal acne and pie without Accutane or oral antibiotics :( Ps: Thank you for taking the time to share your skincare knowledge 😍
it is incredibly annoying to have to explain how acne has affected my mental health. people have been telling me "no one notices" or "you're gonna have a mask on anyway" they don't understand how it works for us! it is the root of my depression and anxiety. i refrain a lot from social situations just because i don't want to show my face. people that have never dealt with this do not understand and it is so frustrating for people to try to give me advice on it.
Agreeeee
I feel U darling 😔😔😔😔
Agree 100%, it’s taken such a toll on my mental health 😭
Yess ,it does triggered my mental health . People around me keep on saying ‘it wasnt a terrible breakout ,just wash your face using a clean water’ . Yeahhhh as if i wash my face using the dirt all this while 😒😂 i’ve never been in breakout in my whole life, this is the first and it has been 6months now . I’ve done everything that i could ,spend all my money seeing a few dermatologist but yahhh 😭 its such a frustrating when people around make fun of me saying that i’ve spend so much money but still look ugly 😭😭 i’m dying inside 😭
I don’t go to the gym because of my acne
I took Accurane 20 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. My skin cleared beautifully within 3 months and the acne never came back. My only wish is that I would’ve taken it earlier and saved myself from depression it caused throughout my teenage years and into my 20s.
@Abubakr #Apostate i kno im rresponding late but pls take it, it absolutely changed my life and cured my depression the only side effects are drry skin and lips. its so worth it!! good luck
@Abubakr #Apostate yes take the accutane. I had severe acne from 12 - 18, i took the accutane at 19 and my face cleared. I'm now 26 and still no acne
Did you have to use any special face wash or creams while on it? I’m in month 2 and still breaking out and have scars😢

Can you guys plsss answer my questions?
Period. Ok?"
Dr Dray, I've replayed that more than 10 times and started tearing up. I never saw it as a disease, but a vain and self-absorbed issue, as people like to paint it that way. Finally being heard, understood and validated for being so emotionally affected by acne is so comforting. Thank you.
She says this at 17:54

Wow this is the truest thing I have ever heard

I went on Accutane a year ago because my acne got to the point where I couldn't leave my house anymore. I felt so much better after Accutane, I can't even describe how amazing it was for me.
glad to hear :)
Does accutane have to be prescribed by a dermatologist? Can a doctor prescribe it too? Where i live it takes years to get an appointment with a dermatologist and it’s wayyy out of my budget:( i tried every product out there for acne and i cant get rid of it:(
Blushem Which country do you live in? The answer will depend upon this
Chewy Piano canada
Blushem I don’t know about Canada but in the UK a general doctor can’t prescribe it; they must be referred to a dermatologist who can then prescribe it but there are long waiting times. If I wanted to bypass the waiting, id have to go private
I was having a mental breakdown because I was so scared of the side effects but after this video I'm wayyyy calmer! Thank you so much!
@AnTiDotE X How exactly does is ruin lives?
I’ve used it and had minimum side effects. It totally worths
Bubble Gum MSP don’t listen to that dude it’s not as bad as you think it drys your skin out bad though but it’s worth it
AnTiDotE X my skin better than ever and never looked more youthful.
Don’t by your profile pic, you look beautiful and I mean that.
Accutane changed my life and I’m so grateful for it
Can I ask you a question? What was your skin type like after taking it? Did your skin type return back to normal? For example, did your skin start out as oily and go back to oily after finishing accutane? Or was it normal/dry after finishing it? Really curious about this. I start next month!
b s mine started out as oily and went back to oily haha
@Isabella Eker we have to take BC in the US too. I hope you have good results with the accutane!!!
When you said OK after every sentence I feel like you're my dermatologist right now and you're talking to me in my face, much love from INDIA.
:)
You wrote my heart out. Thank you for understanding
Thank you for saying this
I'm on month 2 of accutane. Thank you for feeling us 🥺♥️
Literally the reason I haven't taken Accutane.
Thank you so much for talking about the emotional effects. Acne is more then just a flaw it has a severe emotional impact on so many people.
Incredible that the drug was developed in the 50s and we can’t make anything better.
Thanks for the informative video.
I was shookt when she said *"PERIOD!"*
Just be conscious that it IS a legitimate side effect and you can get through it 💕
Did u face hair loss /hair thinning?
My dermatologist would only treat males when I saw this physician in 1977. It took me years to find out that it was eventually available to women. Both of my children were on Accutane in the 1990’s and it saved their skin. I’m so glad they didn’t have to experience the heartache of having acne and it saved them from scarring.
Craig, not at all. They are both in their mid thirties now.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal story here Ms Sarah :)

Dray here.
What did the esthetician do for your daughter? Just curious :)
Mari Cooke my dermatologist said that happens to a lot of teenagers and young adults but not so much with older people. I am hoping that is true since I am about to start taking it at 31.
She is amazing I wish I had a doctor/family member like her she is so well educated and understanding on this topic

Thanks for sharing this Ms Traci and happy friday!

Im now taking accutane for 2 months and im seeing the good result 😍
Does it work for hormonal acne too
Your videos have truly helped me. I suffer from pcos and when I got on Accutane 6 years ago, it completely cured my acne. My skin was clear until I recently started eating unhealthy foods. So, I will be starting Accutane again. You rock!
Do acne return after the accutane therapy?
When I went to see a derm I was told to take accutane. At the time I was in my teens and seeing that booklet totally turned me off. The derm seemed un willing to head out my concerns and educate me on the reason for her diagnosis. I appreciate this video very much. More deems should be this informative when it comes to a major decision like taking this medication.
Great and informative video! I just started my first month of accutane and I just wish I had done it years ago after battling acne since 4th grade. I’m going through the purge and I’ve never been happier, “it’s working!”. Thanks for taking the time for making this video!
glad to hear things are going well :)
hii can i ask you for an update please?
i’m on my 5th month with no results. fuck accutane that shit don’t work
Did u face hair loss /hair thinning? and did the acne come back? What was ur dosage?
I recently started a treatment of isotretinoin. Before treatment, I was extremely nervous because of what I had heard about side effects, especially the potential effects on mental health. This video is so educational and really helped me feel so much better about starting isotretinoin and now I'm feeling optimistic and excited about the future of my skin, rather than scared and nervous. Thank you, Dr. Dray! :)
Hi, any progress on your skin. Please share your experience
This was so helpful! I am on accutane for one month so far and I can already see a difference!
Because of you, I'm more confident in having my plans on taking Isotretinoin.
I just started Accutane last month and my skin is already looking so much better. Thank you so much for this video
glad to hear!
Picky Nikki84 would you continue to use the tazorac while on accutane?
This acne guide *AcneCureOnline. Com* is very useful for my daughter that is why she definitely love it. We have already expended a hefty amount of money trying various acne cures for over a year now but not one of them had worked. I am thankful that we`ve found out this guide. We observed an apparent distinction within a couple of days and within a few weeks her acne had cleared up.
When I say I want to go on accutane people around me are like “huh why? No! What about the side effects? Your acne is not even that bad”
What people don’t realize is that I have had acne for the past 10 years of my life and I’m 20 now.
When i was on the medication again, i had to get a lower dosage since i developed eczema but afterwards you should be just fine!
yes relapse rates are actually higher in teens
Yup. I definitely relapsed once I went into college. I am currently on my 2nd accutane treatment.
Couldn't agree more... I only wish I would have tried it before my late thirties. Great video, thank you!
Thank you Doc for understanding the psychological effects of acne in confidence and self-esteem ❤️
Did the side affects go away? Because I’m on it and I’m experiencing a lot of them
@@Alex-ev9ndHeyy any update?:( what side effects did u have?
Thank you Dr. Dray, I know this is an older video but wow I really needed to hear a dermatologist taking acne as a multifaceted disease seriously
Hope I can battle them one day :)
very frustrating for sure
JZ M how are your scars?
What was your dosage?
hi idk if you’ll see this lol i’m 4 years late but anyways i’m on my 5th month with barely any results and idk how it was for u but when did u start seeing results?
Did u face hair loss /hair thinning?
Thank you for mentioning diet! Accutane helped me profoundly in my 20s but as I aged (I'm 41 now) I've found a healthy diet has nearly eliminated ANY breakouts and improved my skin overall.
it does help
Thank you for a video that didn’t make me terrified to start accutane. So excited to start next month :)
Glad to hear this was helpful!
How did it went?
I saw a lot of videos whetr people faced depression, severe anxiety, suicidal thoughts, back pains kind of after effects
wajiha sultana .
I’m 43 and have not had clear skin since the last 23 years. Now that I’m finally done baby making and most probably developed antibiotic resistance from all the antibiotics, I am going on accutane. Hope it works fingers crossed
How'd it go
@isarizvi1195 thanks for asking. I broke out in hives and had to go to ER for that. Unfortunately its not for me
I have dealt with very oily acne prone skin and ultimately decided to give a session of Accutane a try.
@KiranMai Buchupalle I didnt really notice hairfall but my doctor did say that some people experience hair loss as a side effect
Hey any updates?
I'm currently on an 8-month accutane journey and about half way through! I loved this video - so much solid information from a trusted doctor. My main concern is alcohol consumption on the drug. I'm 25 years old and find it so hard to avoid drinking. I've definitely cut down and no longer drink casually. I don't binge drink but on a night out with friends I will have a couple drinks. Every time I wake up after a night out I always feel so guilty because I've heard so many different opinions! I know you touched on this briefly but I was wondering if you could elaborate a little bit more on this. Thanks so much!
Did u face hair loss /hair thinning? and did the acne come back? What was ur dosage?
Starting in a few days! I did the i pledge and am in the 30 day wait period... 💗💗😭👌🏻 I’m 25 with 13 years of acne. So excited!
And I got the IUD
yeah the ipledge wait is a pain, and it can be hard to coordinate with the pharmacy
What a coincidence! Haha I’m 25 and I’m starting in about a week! Hope it works for you!! ☺️
Mackenzie T so far just dry skin and extra red 😭 no new major pimples but oh my god I look worse
Virgo Mermaid same!!! I have my one month check in tomorrow! My skin is super red and burnt looking, but I haven’t gotten any new breakouts. Also my eyes are dry as hell, I have to use eye drops a lot.
I started on Accutane this month this video has helped me so much thank you Dr Dray :)
thanks for watching!
Thank you for being so informative! Wish my dermatologist actually told me all of this before I started taking Accutane..
This is the best video I have seen on this medication so far. Thanks!
I am planning to start Accutane soon and I just ordered two items from Coolibar (40% off sale items btw) in preparation for sun protection. Thankful for the informational and no nonsense videos. It is a joy to watch them. Thanks Dr. Dray! 😊
Thanks Ms Ellen!! Hope it goes well & that this video was helpful
Ellen Tran how’s your skin at the moment ?
Ellen Tran how is your skin now. I'm planning to start accutane also.
This video helped me soooooo much!!! Thank you for providing all of this information! I was very scared to start taking Accutane because of how dangerous people make it seem. This video really helped clarify everything and I am super excited to start taking it in May!
Christa Trezona hi. Any updates?
I have had acne rosacea for over 15 years (I’m 31 now). After years of taking different antibiotics which were a hit and miss, I decided to give roaccutane a chance. It’s been a month and I’ve noticed a massive improvement. I feel confident enough to leave the house without makeup on, that’s how clear my skin has become. My only worry and concern is that my acne rosacea will return once I stop taking the meds as rosacea is a chronic disease that doesn’t have a cure. 😔
Did you finish your treatment by now? Any after effects? I'm thinking to start taking it as well for my rosacea and mild acne.
The only person I trust for skincare on TH-cam .

@AnTiDotE X I know accutane has caused a lot of really fucked up a lot of patient's bodies- I never said anything about not believing them. It's a personal choice- what I choose to do with my body is none of your business. Take several seats.
It costs $10 for 60 pills if you have your health insurance.

Period. I was in a phase when I really couldn't control that upsetting feeling of feeling really really ugly 😭😭😭
Hi Dr Gray, I have a question.
@@Sanely_insane_1 my dermatologist prescribed accutane and some foam wash, frezyderm cream and adapalene, i"m on my 4th day

Were you on a large dose?
@@Whatrabbitseat I think I took 120 mg?
I am almost 59 years old and I had pretty horrible cystic acne when I was in my teens in the 70’s. I regularly visited my dermatologist and he put me on tetracycline and would lay me down right under a sun lamp (!!!!) in his office. I didn’t have the option in those days of accutane. I think I just missed it. I am Really scarred on my back as a result (not to mention the UV damage). So glad that people have this option today (as long as they can tolerate it).

Dr. Dray I am on Accutane on and off all time. I am single 46 and now I am back on 40mg maintenance dose.
I’m considering starting a low dose. I’m almost 45. I’d be curious to know if you noticed any signs of accelerated aging due to the medication limiting sebum production. That’s my main concern about starting the medication.

I've just always been hesitant and hope I can finally find a routine that can help my hormonal acne and pie without Accutane or oral antibiotics :(
Ps: Thank you for taking the time to share your skincare knowledge 😍
