It's a shame we live in such a 'disposable' society. I'm not saying we should all become hoarders but there are still uses for older hardware. I try to repurpose or recycle all my old electronics. If it works, someone could still make use of it. Good video, keep them coming.
At the time, I bought three of these critters and have every one of them away to Grade 6 special needs students that I was teaching. They were absolutely brilliant for their time and the kids loved them. Easy to set up and easy to use.
I have far more emulation handhelds than a non-youtuber needs, but my favourite is still the original PocketGo. It lives in my pocket and I play a lot of Pokemon Pinball with it.
I always wanted one of this and never got it until this week found one on ebay and i love the form factor i dont like vertical handhelds so this fits perfect for me and since i only play mostly pokemon or gameboy games only this so hopefully this will last me a long time thanks for the video
The screen is build in upside down, so one of the things the firmware needs to do is display everything upside down. That's why it was working, but displayed upside down with the sd-card from the other device.
I've been looking for a while for a horizontal device that was also small and good for GBA games. To the point one of the things I am considering is modding a GBA, getting it a good screen and chargeable battery. I was surfing around in the web and saw a picture of this and gasped cause it really looks like exactly what I wanted. The only clue I had was the "POCKET-GO" under the screen. Too bad that a few searches later , it looks like this device is not for sale anymore. I guess I should be happy with my Miyoo Minis, but maybe if we are lucky some company is going to give it a try and make a modern device in this form factor, cause I really like the idea of a tiny horizontal device with 3:2 screen and the options around either have issues or are no longer available or both.
This is odd but in a good way. I haven't touched my Pocket Go v1 in numerous months but decided to turn it on today and see what I had on it. And then this video showed up on the side for my recommended. I'm not sure which CFW I installed on it but I know it wasn't the Miyoo one. I got a chuckle at reading the Wiki at part 6 of installing it on the Pocket Go which read: Insert the SD into your console and turn it on. If it boots it is a success. LOL! If that's the case then I'll just stick to what's currently on it since it works. DOS games like Commander Keen, Quake, Quake 2, Doom, and Wolfenstein all ran great. All the consoles and handhelds I tried ran exceptionally well too, and from watching numerous Datafrog SF2000 videos, it seems like the PocketGo ran them better. Maybe it's my bad eyes though. The only downside I had was that I have a large collection for many systems so it took a while to load up the games list. But games themselves booted up fairly quickly. Great video and it's awesome you and Boris are still friends after all these years.
I'm guessing we're about the same age, I was also a little bit too obsessed with Jurassic Park, and also a little bit too obsessed with helicopters (thanks in part to Desert Strike on the Mega Drive, and in part to the TV series Airwolf). It's funny how the majority of my earliest video games were related either to licensed movie & TV properties or mascots (Sonic, Zool, Dizzy on the C64). I guess the era of movie tie-in games is pretty much dead now, and that's probably not a bad thing.
I just turned 40 if you're curious. Yeah you're probably right about the movie tie ins. At least decent ones. I can't think of a semi-recent movie game that landed on my radar. Actually these days it seems like it's the other way around, that good games come out and then they turn them into movies to cash in on the hype from the game. I'm surprised there weren't more really good Jurassic Park games. It seems like such a promising IP that would lend itself so well to games!
Lol its interesting how many people started with the rs-90. it was also my first emulation only device and i was so dissapointed at first, but when the cfw for this device came out, it had real usecase for me and i had it about 2 years in my pocket until the screen shattered. in the meantime i bought the ldk landscape and the rg350. and when the rs-90 broke, the v90 came out. and as last i got the 351v and giving away the rg350 and v90 to friends because i just didnt use them. and also the same with the rg351v after some weeks, the battery broke and it was hard to get a replacement at first, so i moved to the gpd xd+ devices and then the odin pro and since the miyoo mini came out with miniui it spreads the same joy to me as the rs-90 did in the old time. hopefully we will see some easy to get miyoo mini metal mod in the future.
The screen is replaceable/interchangeable with the GBA Micro style screen...? I can't recall the exact model, but check it out, you may still be able to fix it, though the plastic cover I'm not sure about... Retromini is still a sweet thing! Props to OD team and all those who made it so awesome!
@@kabukimanbrazeetoh5664 youre right, but at the time it broke, i only found pretty expensive displays in comparison with the price of the unit itself. for that device i have to admit, it went into the trash together with a broken/DOA q90. thanks for the help though :)
If I wasn't constantly wanting the "next best new thing" I would still be using this for GBA/GBC. I might go back to this tbh it's so easy to pick up and play on the go.
I remember back in 2019 when I saw the negative reviews on this. Crazy to see how much has changed since then, but the design just looks pleasant overall. Pardon the unrelated question, but is this your natural speaking voice? Or is the nasal speech a part of your online persona?
Oh and before I forget, cave story works perfectly on this device, did a whole playthrough. I think if there was a community behind it, it could technically be revamped software wise to include other indie titles. I think if the cave story works, it's already a good clue as to what the pocket go can do. Then there is also pico 8. I love pico 8 games and the community. Another thing, I never had the opportunity to play a pocket go 2. It think that one went a bit under the radar.
dam good handheld ONLY issue for me in the END! was the buttons and stick Wear out and dont work as good as they used to,which is what finally forced me to upgrade to V2 Which also suffered same fate after about a year of using it all the time.
Well I just tried Miyoo Mini and its awesome, love it already and its one of my favorite from my handheld consoles (Its more fun to play than my ps vita cause I can almost play with one hand 😄)
I only wish They added a Favorite section for the Miyoo CFW, i would choose this system over my new ones couse is perfect for size weight and games i play but i hate to scroll down all the time
Yup, THPS2 on the GBA. All the tony hawks games on the GBA were good actually. I played a few of them back in the day and I still like testing them on my devices.
You can play doom otherwise. Star Fox is annoying. Think, I love this console for the size, the display is beautiful, and for what I paid back then, I couldn't complain. I had and still have a great time with it. I wish bittboy would revamp this model with additional shoulder buttons and updated hardware to make it run until ps1 included.
Nice video! Reminded me I still have my 1st emulator the PlayGo which I believe was the same as the PocketGo v2? It's collecting dust now, I have an RP3+ but thinking I might find the PlayGo and update it. Does anyone know know if it will accept the Miyoo TriForceX CFW or anything? I didn't like the stock interface much.
I got into these during the Pandemic and had the OG Bittboy and this PocketGo. I got the v2 and it came with a big crack in the screen they wouldn't fix which put me off dealing with the company. Obviously these things have come miles - I've got a Retroid Pocket 2+ now - but I had fun with these early units, playing Pokémon yellow and Sonic advance. I just hated the software!

i hate retro games, because i suck at most video games and the losing wears me down emotionally. Newer games are basically communism for people who suck at retro games. everybody gets a win. i will say that on NES, ninja turtles and mario bros 2 were fun and easy enough that i dedicated myself to them on those old consoles. and on SNES, i loved mickey mouse magical quest.
Oh I hear that. Retro games are so punishing. Like, making it to the final boss, dying, and then starting the game over FROM THE BEGINNING!?! That's cruel man.
Thanks for fixing my pocket go, Dweeb! Let me know if you need anyone beat up in the comment section. It's the least i can do.

Yay new Tech Dweeb! I've been thinking about making a video like this, about the Dingoo A320
Oh neat. I had no idea about that one but I just looked it up and it looks cool!
I love mine it's so small and convenient, and the buttons and d pad have a great feel
Love the channel! I have a Pocket Go and still play it a lot, even though I have many "better" systems (Anbernic 280V, Miyoo Mini, etc.).
