Thanks for saying so! It's my favorite part of making videos, doing this fun little creative stuff. I'm just glad when I hear people are enjoying it :)
They're super convenient! I've tested many, given many to family and friends, and universally they are well received because they're easy as heck and even the lower end ones have a ton of games, all the good old pre-ps1 retro stuff.
I live in Thailand and bought a similar retro gaming console on Lazada for about $20 US. It has dual wireless controls, and the console plugs directly into an HDMI port and has a usb 5 volt cable used to power the unit. It has over 10,000 games organized by name under the type of console that they were originally played on. Games can be saved as favorites so that you do not have to search through 1000's when you wantto play and games in progress can be saved as well. I have had no issues at all, every game I have played has loaded and played flawlessly and I do not experience any lag with the wireless controllers. Additionally, after playing for over a year now, the controllers are not breaking down. I consider it one of the best $20 I have ever spent.
In case you've bought one of these consoles and can't figure out how to exit from a game back to the main menu... press the START and MODE buttons simultaneously. I searched everywhere on the internet and couldn't find that little bit of info.
Everyone definitely needs five or six nearly identical versions of devices that do literally the same thing. It's good for the economy... or something.
One thing to mention about the Neo Geo CD games- the arranged soundtracks are exquisite! You wouldn’t believe that the credits theme of King of Fighters 97 was written for a fighting game of all things if you didn’t already know.
Ok this is the one for me. Just ordered it to power a arcade cab. We'll let you know how I like it and I'm interested to see what the downloadable game database you get access to for buying it is like.
Nice! I'm actually thinking of swapping out the Super Console X that I used in my own arcade cabinet with this one as well. I haven't tried the FTP that they offer but I probably should 🤔
The question is: Which retro-gaming setup is best for old school cRPG/JRPG content? (and where did the dice go? LOL.) Honestly, PS1 and PS2 era emulation is king for me - after the classic retro-home computers (along with Wii, for a certain Scooby Doo game... don't judge me! ;) ). I'd love to see weird emulation on this stuff too, like PPC Mac era stuff (I modded the crap out of Baldur's Gate for pre-Intel Macs... no, it wasn't easy, at all - because I did it during quarantine in 2020, sigh. I actually need to follow up on that with the GemRB Infinity Engine emulator... it runs on everything, sort of ). Anyway, thanks my main Dweeb for your positive enthusiasm and fun videos.
I always have a hard time when I try to emulate the old PC systems on these things because they require a bit of knowledge about the command lines or even just how the controls and menus worked on those original devices, since I haven't actually tried them IRL I'm at a loss of how to use the emulators. I should probably just take the time to learn them huh :P
On a more serious note, great vid Dweeb. Your alacrity is infectious and it's so cool you had so much fun with your family playing with the retro monster. I might get on for a girly friend who enjoys the retro games, but as you said, knows nothing about emulation or its setup. Keep up the excellent content... you entertain as well as inform... cheers mate.
Has TechDweeb did a video on making your own retro "console"? I been thinking about trying to make small form factor emulation box that can I take anywhere with me myself. I don't mind paying a little extra for parts and stuff, but seeing how far these products can go in Dweeb's reviews and how much they cost makes it seem like it be very doable.
I bought this based on this review. Thanks, it's been a blast. However, my Emuelec options (version 4.6-test-07082022) doesn't have an "Advanced Settings" area that I can use to change the emulator? Ibelieve I've opened all the options to look for it and can't seem to find out how to change it. The main reason is I can't play the MAME Cyberball game. It doesn't load. Also, how does one disable to menu that pops up when you press the joysticks down?
The advanced system settings are available by pressing the SELECT button when you're on the games list of a system. If you want to change the hotkeys for opening the retroarch menu, the easiest way is to open a game, then bring up the menu, go to quick settings, select "close content", then go to out to the main retroarch menu, then settings, then 'hotkeys', and in there you can set the hotkey settings to whatever you want. Then, when you're done, you can go to the main menu and go to 'configuration file' and select 'save current configuration'. This SHOULD make it so it works across all cores. If it doesn't then (annoyingly) you'll have to do this setup for each core, but instead of saving the configuration file you'll 'save core override' from the quick menu. Hope this helps!
Hi, I just bought this off your review(awesome video) I did see a few others that said it can’t really run N64 games. Have you seen that? I really just want to play some daddy kong racing and Mario kart with my kids.
N64 will be hit or miss. I'd say probably 90% will run problem free. If a game you want isn't working great you can try changing the resolution to 320x240, and changing the emulation core (some cores work better for certain games than others).
@@TechDweeb so I finally got it last night and everything runs well until I hit the N64. I just change it to 720 and change the emulator and boom it works. Thank you so much for the help and the video! (It’s crazy it runs the Dreamcast games like nothing)
Wow, I didn't know emuelec came out for the x4. Also, I didn't expect this much of a performance increase over the x3. I'm happy to learn something new. But what I really thought I'll never see on this channel is Burger time in a colour that isn't orange! What's up with that? As always, love the video!
Hahaha I knew someone would call me out on that! I started it up, figured, 'no problem I'll just play in green... Oh man I hope no one points this out" 🤣
So I have a question. When it comes to handheld emulators (i have several), it always seems to be best to replace the stock firmware with a custom firmware. I've done this with every handheld except one (RG353M) although I tried on that one too and it just didn't work out. However, when it comes to these TV boxes (I don't have any of these), no one ever seems to recommend replacing the stock firmware. Is it always that good? I don't think I've ever seen anyone recommend that ever with any of these.
Well Emulation Station sort of is a custom operating system. These devices come with android installed and ES is a 3rd party app that is installed on top of it. I think it's just such a great highly polished OS made by the community already, it's probably not going to be outperformed by anything for a while.
I want to buy a retro console, I have seen many videos but I am not clear. What do you recomend me? I don't care that it's the cheapest console 🙏 I just want all the games to run well. Thank you!
The Hyper base King is the most powerful retro console that I've tested. th-cam.com/video/fWcxYv0HGZQ/w-d-xo.html This is the only console that can handle upscaling N64 and Dreamcast.
My RG35XX is arriving literally any minute now. I'm excited to see how it works as an emulation console when... Oh no... I forgot that I haven't bought my mini-HDMI cable yet and I'm snowed in! Nooooooooooooo
My heart skipped a beat for a second when I saw the white foam insert and thought they mailed me the wrong colour, but it is the transparent "atomic" purple I requested. The shoulder buttons rattle about as much as the original GameBoy Advance's d-pad and face buttons, but that won't be happening with index fingers resting across them. Feels a little heavier than I was anticipating, probably due to the battery. But weighs about as much as my smartphone. After just recently getting an 8bitdo Zero 2 last week, the only thing I'm not a complete fan of is the RG35XX's d-pad. But otherwise, this will be replacing my Steam Link and Classic SNES Mini for retro gaming on the TV and on the go.
I pull out my +2 long sword and dagger (I have dual weapon proficiency) and yell, 'stop scaring cats!!!. and attack the retro monster. Roll for initiative.
Love these videos! Debate every day pulling the trigger and getting one of these or waiting for a steamdeck 2. (whenever it comes out) I would just be using docked for home emulation. What do you think would be better? I want the convenience, but im not able to build them myself. I really would like flawless ps2, ds, 3ds emulation.
If ps2, ds, and 3DS emulation is important then I would not recommend any of these Android emulation consoles. They offer great performance compared to the price for the lower end stuff but they can't handle anything above ps1/n64/dreamcast.
Do you know how to get Killer Instinct to play? The arcade version. If you could please take a minute to give this game a look and share your knowledge, I'd be extremely grateful. I'm using Super Console X Cube, per your recommendation. Thanks 😊
I'm sorry but I have no idea! It's not included on any of the devices I have on hand (My Super Console X Cube has gone to live at my buddy's house, it's powering his arcade cabinet). Does it start up at all? Ordinarily the key to getting Mame games to run is choosing the right core. There should be several installed, try each one and see if it will start and/or play well on any of them. That's about all I can suggest I'm afraid!
@@TechDweeb thanks for the reply. I had tried the different versions of Mame pre-installer on the console with no luck. I need to get off my lazy butt and install other versions of Mame. Thanks again 😁✌️
Yes it was Libretro: Parallel N64 32B and I set both integer scaling to on and set enable max performance to yes. Also on latency reduction I set run ahead frames to 1 and set use second instance for run ahead to on. I set auto frame delay to on and variable refresh rate to on. Once those settings are applied the game runs great until you are going really fast then there's a tiny audio delay but no video problems. Also I noticed that you have to go to game settings and set these settings for the nintendo 64 settings or it will default to what is in the game settings for nintendo 64 if you just set it per game.
i was wanting to read the mame list of games in your description but each mame title is just a bunch of random numbers and letters rather than the actual titles of the games :/
I am wondering if I buy the 128GB or 256GB and there's a game ps1 game not on it, can I put them on a usb stick in one of the holes and use at the same time micro sd for the operating system and present games
I built my own gaming system with a ryzen 5 plus and high end graphics adrenalin edition plus an Nvidia GTX 1650. So mine beats all of the Chinese stuff that's out. I love ur videos tho
Hello your channel is great I was wondering if your can help me find a emulator that is has arcade games like Marvel vs. capcom 2 , alien vs. predator, and all of arcade hits of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s
Good one TD, This is a product I would consider... def have better emulation devices but, it'd be nice to have something permanently hooked up at home. Although my fam definitely aren't gamers so consider yourself lucky bro... Suggestion btw: I've been wondering how the new PS emulation compares to what the community already has achieved. I've only seen videos, but it seems behind the curve. Perhaps PS really should have hired some community devs... Hermione would totally kick that monsters ass
Yeah that's why I like them. I have emulators and ROMs on my PC that I can easily use on my tv, but more often than not when I want to play some quick retro games especially if I have guests over I will just fire something like this up. Also it's nice to have a dedicated device for emulation. Maybe I'm just using them as a crutch so I don't have to bother setting emulators up and configuring them myself 🤔
Which PS emulation are you referring to? Is that like emulating old PS1 games on a PS5 in an official way or something? It wouldn't surprise me if it lags behind community driven emulation. When these big companies offer old games on new hardware so often the ports and/or emulation is half-assed compared to the free emulators we have made by, you know, enthusiasts who actually CARE about creating a good experience rather than just slapping something together as a cash grab 🤑
@@TechDweeb talking about the ps5 (ps1) emulation software they started pushing it with their updated tier subscription plans (however they are trickling these games out like a half dozen a month... watched another YT commentator I follow lose his sh... stuff and shower it with praise but I'm looking at the videos of it SMH like 'we've been doing this better for years' but I don't think he's got any footing in emulation so he was blown away
Can you please tell me how to plug in the controllers? They're wireless, so like. I mean, I turned them on, but they still don't work is there anything else I have to do? Mine didn't come with a manual, so. Thank you
There is a usb dongle that you plug into the USB port. Then the controller should 'just work'. Make sure you boot the device with the controller plugged in.
@TechDweeb not sure if my comment was added. But I was saying that I plugged in everything that I had to plug in. I don't see anything else unless I'm missing something. I see the port, but I don't know what the doggle is supposed to look like. The box booted up turned fine, and it's working. My issue is the controllers
@TechDweeb is it a small cable? I just found something here that I think I forgot to connect, but I'm not sure. Although I only see one cable, I have 2 controllers
Great video, Dweeb...really enjoy your content. I like the balanced viewpoint and warmth you bring to your reviews. Can you fold paper Gandalf up and send him to me in the mail, please? Keep doing what you do!
King is more powerful, but more expensive. Monster is cheaper, but not as powerful. If you care a lot about N64 or Dreamcast then the King will leave you more satisfied. If not, then the monster will probably be all you need.
Wow. Aggressive there at the end... are you ok? For $100 it doesn't seem bad, but I also feel like you could get more going custom. This might be perfect for the pick up and play aspect and that's perfectly valid, but I always tell people to consider buying the hardware it's VERY easy to set up. Consider a used office PC which Techdweeb has also done, OR if you want the TV box spend a little more for a Nvidia shield and get MASSIVE performance boost + alll those amazing android TV features, AI upscaling, and amazing game streaming support. Sometimes something you already own like an Xbox, or laptop, or raspberry pi can be used to run retro games. Xbox? What do I mean xbox? Yes there are stand alone emulators AND Retroarch for Xbox. The new Xbox Series S may already be on your shelf and its a powerhouse emulation device. I think even gamecube runs well. LOTs more options open up if you are willing to watch some tutorials, roll up your sleeves, and get to hackin'
Yeah I'll be fine. I just need some Burger Time to chill out. I'm genuinely surprised at the number of people who don't have any desire or skill to download their own ROMs and make a library of their own. I get a ton of comments from people who buy these things because they come with the games pre-installed, and apart from adding their favorite game once or twice they don't bother editing the ROM library in any way. These devices are kind of in the no man's land between enthusiasts and novices.
It's a realm between Lazy & Cheap. Like too lazy to build a library, but also too cheap to spring for a premium product. That is where it lives. I think I would personally spend $50 on a Miyoo or RG35xx that COMES loaded with games, but have the option of unlocking more potential via firmware customization and library selection. The home console provides that nice couch co-op experience, but I have had near instant access to that experience via PC/ android emulation for so long. I kind take for granted what I had to struggled through and learn to get to a point where I can just MAKE that type of experience appear from thin air.
HELP TECH DWEEB😖 I bought the following and setting up the controllers is a nightmare: KINHANK Retro Game Console Super Console X King 49000 Games for PSP/PS1/DC/N64/M Please...
Retro Monster just enjoys his privacy, and doesn't like opening himself up to strangers. The "Scary Monster" act helps him feel in control of his life, actively pushing people away rather than repelling them with his, er, disappointing library of emulated games. Maybe you could respect Retro Monster's wishes and act a little scared, just to make him feel valid.
Could you please stop with all the cutesy stuff ? Please stop saying “ holes.” They are called “ ports.” Most of the reviews on Amazon are negative. So how could you possibly recommend this android box ??? You did. It deep dive enough !!! If you want a decent emulation console, then you will need to spend at least $200 and up. There are way better emulation game consoles.

I bought this based on this review. Thanks, it's been a blast. However, my Emuelec options (version 4.6-test-07082022) doesn't have an "Advanced Settings" area that I can use to change the emulator?
Thank you so much! I was looking for that setting while I was in the Favorites location. I’ll start tackling the controller tonight 🤘🏻

i was wanting to read the mame list of games in your description but each mame title is just a bunch of random numbers and letters rather than the actual titles of the games :/
I am wondering if I buy the 128GB or 256GB and there's a game ps1 game not on it, can I put them on a usb stick in one of the holes and use at the same time micro sd for the operating system and present games
Yes! There is a way to use external storage to launch your games. I can't recall exactly how but it is possible.
Do any of these game sticks have or support 4 controllers?
Yup! If you add your own usb hub and extra controllers you can play 4 player games like Arcade games.
Freddy Krueger Style top your wearing 👍🏽
I built my own gaming system with a ryzen 5 plus and high end graphics adrenalin edition plus an Nvidia GTX 1650. So mine beats all of the Chinese stuff that's out. I love ur videos tho
For sure, a homemade low end gaming PC beats the pants off even these expensive Android devices!
Hello your channel is great I was wondering if your can help me find a emulator that is has arcade games like Marvel vs. capcom 2 , alien vs. predator, and all of arcade hits of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s
Most of these retro emulation boxes have all the old arcade stuff. You can see the game lists of this box in the description.
Masterwork video
If you've done that and it's not working there might be something wrong with your controller.
I have a hk1 rbox x4s device I need a gamepad to play ppsspp emulator games I tried many gamepads but it didn't work, do you have any suggestions?
Another Amazing video..
Are there any plug & plays that run PS2 games well?
Great video, Dweeb...really enjoy your content. I like the balanced viewpoint and warmth you bring to your reviews. Can you fold paper Gandalf up and send him to me in the mail, please? Keep doing what you do!
Thanks buddy! Sorry, you can't have paper Gandalf. I need him for future adventures.
@@TechDweeb Ah, well...C'est la Vie. He truly belongs in your life, anyhow. All the best!
how does this compare to the super console X units?
Hyper base king or this retro monster????
King is more powerful, but more expensive. Monster is cheaper, but not as powerful. If you care a lot about N64 or Dreamcast then the King will leave you more satisfied. If not, then the monster will probably be all you need.
can you add another controller? If this was asked already, sorry.
Yup
Hi, TechDweeb, my question is, can I add games?
Yup!
@@TechDweeb Thanks for the quick answer, one more question, do you think the super console x3plus or the retro monster is better?
Are there any Retro emulators that do Xbox. I miss three game Spy vs Spy, Kung Fu Chaos and Whacked. The last two are made by Microsoft.
Is he saying giglebyte?
Baby's first power strip!
How can I change it to wide screen and change the resolution
I cant see the pc engine list for the 256 gb
Christ that banjo is nightmare fuel
can you play this on a tv
Yup!
The video starts at @3:48 you're welcome.
No it doesn't. The whole video is an experience. Stop being such an excrement hole
How do you exit out of a game
Falcon wireless its called
The world doesn't deserve this channel
I appreciate you making lists of all the games, but couldn't you make the lists in alphabetical order?
These were the lists provided by the manufacturer :/
HELP TECH DWEEB😖 I bought the following and setting up the controllers is a nightmare:
KINHANK Retro Game Console Super Console X King 49000 Games for PSP/PS1/DC/N64/M
Please...
Your Retro Monster backstory is heart wrenching 🥺
256 and STILL no Gran Turismo?? No thx
Subbed and bell'ed.. but honestly I AM here for the Android based stuff... I wont hold that against ya tho
any low ARM machine + Linux = cheap emulation MONSTER.
Roar.
🐨
Freddy got fingered moment lol
A babies toy :)
Say hole again
Oh I will... I so will.
