    Great video my dude. Totally agree, reducing anything to “best” is a disservice to the nuance of this hobby and the viewers themselves. That said, the Bizazzle is a great choice! As much as I love the Miyoo Mini Plus on Onion, all of the various custom firmwares (which admittedly have mostly been refined for the other XX handhelds) have really stepped up the Bizazzle’s value across 2024.

      The performance is lower but the portability is better. It is more size optimized than the rg35xx+.

    The XX line is truely amazing for the whole retro community. It sets the benchmark for cheap / accessible but quality device. Imo, the only other device that can complete at this price point is Trimui Smart Pro because of its huge screen and real sleep mode. If XX line can get real sleep mode and maybe a 16:9 ratio version for psp than anbernic will conquer the cheap device market

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Good point. Kinda weird they don't have a 16:9 version yet huh?

    • @erickschusterdeoliveira2662
      @erickschusterdeoliveira2662 19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      the true sleep mode not being present for XX devices is because of the H700 chip, apparently it just can't do standby.
      Anbernic will probably have to change chips next year because they've pretty much exhausted the market for low end devices. They *could* use the same chip as the Smart Pro to get true sleep and therefore be able to release a whole new series of devices, but that would be a downgrade of WiFi chip and worse Portmaster support.
      I don't think any Rockchip besides the RK3566 would justify a new line of devices either. There apparently exists a 3562 but no device with it exists yet.

Since then I picked up the XX-H, a Cube XX and made a couple of 35XX's for friends as birthday gifts. In the end, the good old RG35XX with Garlic is probably the dearest to my heart and it definetly got the most playtime. Still all the other devices are super sweet. I recently succumbed to the pressure and bought a squazizzle (RGCUBEXX) and while I do appreciate the larger screen and how well it works with GameBoy and other squarish ratio screens, it feels like a cheap, hollow toy in my hands compared to the meaty solidity of the H. The CubeXX pays for it's friendlier ergonomics by being nearly twice the size and bulk of the H as well. Another thing I found out is that my old-man eyes can't see a 3.5" screen without using reading glasses, and STILL can't see a 4" screen without reading glasses, so the size difference is somewhat pointless from that aspect.
    Another great video, btw. Keep up the amazingly dweeby work m'man.

    And yeah, that's not to say there aren't other devices I like the look of, the Analog DMG would be the pick if money was no objective, for a lot of what I play the square screen of either Cube would be better, I love the modern aesthetic of the 40XXV and TrimUI Brick.
    But so far I've not felt enough of an urge to come away from my little "Gameboy" and I can't see that changing any time soon (at least until Anbernic finally released a Cube XXV with DMG colour scheme)

    I myself own the rg cube and the rg35xx sp and they are both great devices!
    Of course the rg cube is more powerful than the 35 SP but the 35 SP is just so sweet... the form and functionality of it is solid, it plays what I want and is absolutely just amazing for what you pay for it I'm sure as you know Mr Dweeb, it's the same exact device as the one you crowned here in this video except for the ergonomics of course (clamshell as opposed to upright) it's amazing what they can put in the palms of our hands today.

    I pick the H. It loses the gameboy form factor, but provides a decent pair of analog sticks that work well as secondary hotkeys (camera controls for 3D systems is one of the most common use for me).

    • @greyghostinfinite
      @greyghostinfinite 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      I don't know. The R36S is probably THE best and most well-rounded budget option there is, but it has its compromises.
      The RG35XX Plus has also been floating around the $45 range regularly, even in the $35-$40 range if you catch it during a good AliExpress sale with the right coupon.
      No analog sticks like the R36S, but it'll handle many DS, Dreamcast, and PSP games that don't require touchscreen or an analog stick generally better than the R36S can. I'm thinking like the DS Castlevania games, the Mega Man X remake on PSP, Soul Reaver on Dreamcast, etc.. All will run better on the RG35XX Plus. Plus it'll do all the PS1 and below stuff that the R36S is best being limited to.
      Better buttons and build quality on the Bazzizzle too.
      BUT ... All that said - you do have a great point. The R36S is still amazing for being routinely easy to find in the $30 range on any given day, and even as low as like $19-$21 during some sales in the past.

      @@greyghostinfinite Wrong, inflation is crazy in February 2024 the RG35XX Plus price was ~$35-$40, but now you can't find it under 60$.

A 3" screen is also very doable and some have a flip screen eliminating the need to buy a case and screen protector, but I still use a case or even the box it came in for good protection.

    I don't need super power for being out and about and the slightly bigger screen and bigger machine is easier on my old gamer eyes and hands.
    As a fellow geek, it's so hard to resist the higher spec machines, but I know I'd be playing the exact same things and once the screen ratio goes wider than 4:3, it's limited gains for me and the older retro stuff.

It is literally a tank and anyone with at least one functional orange cat brain cell can use it ... even if they only get to have the functional cell once in awhile.The Steam Deck is still king for me, especially the OLED; but you ain't pocketing that thing. I literally have 4 different handhelds which explains how there is not one perfect one. You may want a big one, you may want a small one, and you cannot have both, so literally one perfect one is impossible (let alone if someone doesnt even want a handheld and want a console, I have the Fire TV Stick and GT King for those).
    I still personally think the Steam Deck (oled or not) is the best all-around handheld, but as the best RETRO console, something smaller is better, because it does not need much. I think my RG Cube XX is perfect for me in that regard (which is techincally a different form factor of the RG35XX Plus), but I also have a RP4Pro for more higher end retro and better screen on (I also got it for $100 so I couldnt say no). Steam deck is harder to travel with than even a RP4Pro, let alone another one. For my dedicated travel one, I have a Miyoo A30 with SpruceOS (I am a huge fan of CFW, and I love more horizontal handhelds). And for people who want an out of the box experience, I guess just go by what Tech Dweeb said, like the mass appeal handheld, no frills, mainstream "B E S T" Retro handheld.
    I still think it is impossible, but this isnt bad lol. I will say, as a starter for someone getting into retro handhelds, I do agree the RGXX series with the H700 core is the best starting point. Best to get on AliExpress, and affordable to get extra things on there too (sometimes its all inclusive, I got my A30 with screen protector, case, and aux dongle for $25 with coupons, I also got lucky and was able to get a more reliable 128gb sd card for one dollar from Sandisk on a special AliExpress sale, so keep an eye out, i swear it was a mistake but I got like 6 of them (3 for $1 deal happened twice)).

    To me the "best" should provide integer scaling for most systems as possible, be comfortable and with a 4 inch screen. So, the perfect Handheld is the Anbernic 406H. You get PS1 3x Integer scaling and 4x integer scaling on GBA. PSP is out of the question. XD
    HOWEVER. I thing that is a better experience (at least for ME) go for dedicated handhelds for specific systems.
    So. For GBA, obviously, the next release of the Anbernic RG43XX is the perfect one. No doubt about it.
    On the other hand, the perfect 4:3 handheld is the RG30XX.
    And tho for squared systems like GBC, Pico 8, etc., is the CubeXX.
    For PHP, grab a PSP. XD

    I only have 2 handhelds, the rg35xx plus and the rg28xx, so I can't really compare. And if I were buying today, I would go for the rg40xx.
    Yes, it would probably be less portable. But I find that I didn't carry it with me too often, because I either risked scratching it, or used a case which made it too bulky. So if I'm mostly playing at home anyway, might as well have a bigger screen...
    I've only had the 28xx for a few weeks (bought it in a flash sale for 20$) and I did end up carrying it around with me a lot more. I just wish it had built-in wifi.
