I was in the US Air Force stationed in England when this song came out. I can remember watching this on a video jukebox at the base bowling alley and I was mesmerized by the haunting vocals on this song. Truly an awesome song from a great decade!

I'm one of those "on-the-spectrum" nerds who compiled "100 Favourite Songs" lists from the 60s to 80s. This topped my 1986 list... and Midge topped my 1985 list as well. Why is there not a shrine somewhere dedicated to this amazing musician?

Amazing, this dude only makes good songs, or well made as I don’t really know if he’s made a more recent song, if so; I’d expect it to be wonderful aswell.

I love that the sculpture he briefly works on looks like one of Mick Karn's sculptures, particularly considering they worked together a few times. (Surely not true, but in my own person head canon, the sculpture was a piece loaned by Mick. ;)) Meanwhile, the video, in general, is how I'd like to live out my last years.

Midge makes bridges to different styles: I began listening to Visage, later Ultravox, then Thin Lizzy (even if he was short on tour with them), Band Aid, now he also duets with Kim Wilde on her forthcoming album

By the time this autumnally-themed song hit the singles chart it was early summer in 1986,so it reminds me of being outside in the sunshine with my Dad fixing our cars together while Radio 1's Sunday Top 40 rundown played this song,Bananarama's version of Venus,Status Quo,Billy Bragg,Suzanne Vega,Big Audio Dynamite et al.

The bass; was that Nigel Ross-Scott, Kevin Powell or Mark King? There are 3 bassists credited on this album. I think it was Kevin Powell?
This track was recorded after The Gift. It appeared as a bonus track on re-issues. If I'm not wrong, Midge recorded the track by himself at his home studio before presenting it to the record company.
Midge is always the best singer. He's far younger than even my own daughter
