I just saw him in Edinburgh (for a second time), excellent live show. Two of the band are The India Electric Company, who have supported him on tours too.
@@nickjh1968 absolutely correct chris payne from tubeway army (gary numan) came up with the original music then he passed it to billy currie from tubeway army who later joined ultravox and said billy work your magic on this then it went to midge ure who for some reason still keeps saying he wrote it when he didnt.
midge has never got the recognition he deserves,he was one of the first pioneers of synth pop yet hes never given the credit for all the biggest hits..
Pretty sure he's done ok. The fact that he still packs theatres shows he has the recognition he wants! No one ever says Warren Cann is one of the worlds best drummers, certainly for timing, but he is, he's just out for attention.
@@JUSTA_NOISE Midge has done a lot without people realising it. just look at Visage Fade to Grey, which is still classed as one of the best new wave/synthpop tracks.
I am a heavy metal and hard rock fan but l could listen to this all day. I saw midge ure live in Melbourne when he did the Vienna tour a few years ago and it blew my mind. Stands as one of the best gigs I have ever seen. He is a musical genius.
@@steveoconnor522 One of those facts that few know, and many that do are totally surprised - guy is a superb multi instrumentalist, and not half bad at song writing too :)
Lol, I'm a classic hard rock and metal fan. Favourite band Black Sabbath, but I agree that this is awesome. So very unlike what I normally listen to. Although a banging guitar solo would have been nice. 🤟
I'm so glad I was a teenager in the 80s! Have always been an Ultravox fan and seen them live several times, also Midge on his solo tours. Now, at 60 years young, I still love this song, and, frankly, I like this version even better than the original. Well done, Midge and band, you still rock!
Brilliant. Wipes the floor with a lot of what gets churned out these days. In all fairness, though, the younger crowd I work with also acknowledge this kind of quality and some of them even collect and buy selected stuff from the '80s & '90s.
I was a total hard rock, metal head growing up in the 80’s but loved me some Ultravox, Hurting era Tears for Fears and New Order. Local Aussie/Kiwi bands holding it down too like Mi-Sex and Icehouse. Late 70’s, early 80’s synths have such a great sound. They always mix well with electric guitar
A good - or maybe best expample - with mixing wekk electric guitars with synths is Paul Reynolds from "A Flock of Seagull". Many people say it was a synth band, but if you listen closely, the real and outstanding instrument is Paul with his stunning guitar parts and melodies. A real underestimated talent in those young years (he was not 20 or so at the recording time of "I Ran")
His facial expression and body language is so very similar to his 1984 Live Aid performance with Vienna… one of the best live acts I ever came across. This is brilliant.
I remember...it came out 1981 and was after some days at number 1 and stayed there long ... Also Ultravox catched me 1981 and I was at Schwabinger Braeu in Munich watching and listening Ultravox and a sec time also in Munich....Midge Ure is the voice and when I hear this voice I know it is he...he is brilliant for me and sure for more....so: We go and Vienna is always in my mind....thx for this vid
Great Classic and a perfect example of using electronics to create music! When a synthesizer comes in and pumps the space with energy, it sounds like pure ecstasy to the very end. Midge is somewhat underrated.
The "Steve strange version" was produced, co-written and partly sung by Midge Ure. I guess Midge Ure's live versions are closer to the studio track than any Steve Strange live versikn ever was.
That is awesome. He is just as good as he ever was ...
Thank you for this ❤❤❤ amazing Midge Ure
The way Midge-san sings, the sound, and the band are all so cool and perfect !❤️👍🏻👏
I just saw him in Edinburgh (for a second time), excellent live show. Two of the band are The India Electric Company, who have supported him on tours too.
Fade to grey is one of the most iconic songs of the 80s a masterpiece RIP Steve strange and thx midge ure for producing such a superb track👏👏👏
And of course not forgetting Chris Payne for coming up with the bassline and chords for this masterpiece.
Midge Ure wrote this song and produced it.
Agree totally this is it

don't forget Live Aid, it wasn't just Bob Geldof
@@DaveTheWraith Geldof's a boorish loudmouth, a good frontman if there ever was one. Midge is the goods and the talent.

Midge is a musical genius and part of the soundtrack to my life
one of the greatest synth anthems ever
Midge, wow vocals superb, great to hear you after all these years
This is an artist at work - hugely underestimated whilst highly thought of.

... also the name of an Ultravox album ! ;-)
He's brilliant. I am so lucky to have met him. His work stands the test of time.
This is superb. Love Visage, Ultravox and Midge …

Legendary! One of the most important Artists in the 80's
As our young generation fails to impress us, we look to the professionals to redeem the FREQUENCY.
Great performance! I love the new, edgy synth sounds!
Ladies and Gentleman ......Mr Midge Ure !!
My music from the 80s. Damn do I miss it.
Midge should release this song again, as he does a Great version.
Why should he? It's his song!
He has released the very version he performs in this video

Best song ever. ❤ will always miss Steve Strange ❤
Wasn't expecting that..What a performance..
A living legend.
saw him this weekend in CALIFORNIA... so wonderful. what a talent. Blessed to see him.
Midge is a legendary pioneer of the 80s that still transcend to the present. This song and many more of his work still stood the test of times.
Saw this fella play in new zealand a couple of years ago, absolutely blew me away
SYNTH PERFECTION ❤ MIDGE
... and to think, he's actually an accomplished guitarist... with an astounding voice !
Nah. Needs analog synths. Great tune and vocals but this doesn’t work without them. Computers are close enough.
Yup,, Midge Ure still rocks!
"And they say that in our time
We would reap from their legacy
We would learn from what they had seen

Amazing, we have talented people like this, but all we do is fight each other all the fcuking time. When we could be so much better, like these gents.
Was für ein genialer künstler mit so einer sanften Stimme!🥰
Awesome song performed by a legend
an absolute hit of my youth, must have heard it 1000 times😍

Well, such a banger it is!!! And just love Midge voice....a piece of my childhood!
Life would be awful without the vocal talent this man has. He puts his all into it. Always has done.

I love, love, love, love, love, love, love..awesome performance❤by the way, Midge Ure looks like Patrick Stewart's clone or twin brother❤❤
I thought that too! Make it so 😆
