- This Husqvarna 3120XP chainsaw is a big beast made for big bars. Those big bars tend to stress things like anti-vibe buffers and bar studs. This saw needed attention on both of those. #smallenginerepair

X pattern on the stud fix. That is why I watch your channel. Brilliant. Plus it's nice to watch someone who is competent at their job. To many people have no clue what their doing even at their day job. It's refreshing to see. I have a few Husqvarna chainsaws and I want to learn how to work on it myself because I'm tired of paying my local dealer for repairs then get the saw back and it's still mot right. Thanks so much

I really like that Mityvac tool you’re always using.
The kit I use is the Mityvac MV8500 and comes with a bunch of adapters and such.

I was already a step ahead of you with the adhesive but I was thinking gel threadlocker instead. In retrospect I think I’d use Threebond 1184 because that’s what I have.
Great advice about X pattern chisel knurling, although I’d probably use a centerpunch in a staggered pattern.
Is that V-block a tool from a drillpress?
We use those blocks in the drill press and hydraulic press. The knurling is not just to take up the slop. If I hit it with the chisel one time it would probably hold the stud in place decent but once that 5 foot bar goes on it will torque on that stud and maybe loosen it. I'm not saying what the best way is, just giving you something to ponder.

Thanks. I'm on the clock and am constantly disturbed so narrating while repairing would never work. Plus its a working shop with a bunch of noise. I do a lot of audio editing to make it seem like I'm alone.

I don't mind loaning tools if they are staying in the shop. I only get a little pissy if they get broken. What I hate is when they don't come back or nobody tells me its broken.

That just one thing I like about your videos…..bar studs. What is small to some, others have never worked with. I have never had any studs come out. Great information.

The test is a very important part of the repair. My favorite part? I read the work order and guess what the problem is. Seeing if I was right is my favorite part.@@chrischiampo7647

This saw originally came from The Novice Lumberjack. Before that who knows. I think he said the cylinder was not original and from watching Chris use it the saw seems underwhelming for a 3120. Just found your channel from his. Very cool channel and nice work my friend. I love your shop as I live in the area like Chris and Husqvarna’s are my saw of choice. Keep up the good work!

Another great video. Do you use 40:1 on higher cc saws? What cc do you change the ratio at?
I don't have any hard and fast rules and in fact a lot of times I do things on the fly based on how I feel at the moment. Its a big saw with a lot of run time and I also didn't know how long it would sit before he needed a 5 foot bar. The can I mixed of 40:1 was right there and it seemed like a good idea.

I'm not sure who makes it but I think we have 2 or 3 in the shop and they all have different labels on them.

On most Husqvarnas they do. I think most Stihls use a screw in stud.

Limiting tab. Would a small sliding clamp keep everything in place. Drill thru holes thru the pads. Probably too much , don’t know.
The clamp would probably work. Maybe I made more of it than there really is. I'd like to hear how others do it.
