Just picked these bad boys up at HomeDepot yesterday for work where I used them all day installing cabinets and man I love em! They are so light and small perfect for working in tight spaces all day long. They are by far the coolest looking as well, no funky colors just black and white. The grip is perfect and makes squeezing the handle and pulling the trigger so enjoyable. The best drills I have ever bought period

Can you give a 3 year long term update. Are they still holding up good ? Any problems at all? Do you still consider them the best you ever had?

This Makita sub-compact drill set is legit! I do alot of electrical work between work and side-jobs.This combo kit is probably my favorite over my Milwaukee combo kit cause of its light-ness and recharge time, not to mention it's in a smaller form-factor for tight spaces to work in! All in all this is a great and fantastic kit well worth the money.....

Just picked these up yesterday at HD because of your review. I had to get an HD employee to get them off the pallet rack 10 ft in the air... not even on the shelf. These are BY FAR the BEST cordless tools I have ever used. Light a feather, powerful and anything else out there & I have a ton of Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita and even a couple of throw down Ridgid. Professional daily user & these things are awesome !! Thanks for the review, subscribed !!

Terry Cullen I just picked these up today because of this video. I have a Dewalt combo and I feel like these have a significant amount of less power. Do you feel the same? I haven't used them in my line of work yet but was hoping if you have used the impact and if it has enough torque to rip powerful lag bolts off ?

    • @terrycullen6290
      @terrycullen6290 7 ปีที่แล้ว

1210Gomez No they certainly don't but they are close... I had been using old school 18V DeWalt and these are SO MUCH lighter it is a fair trade off. And, Let's give this little 2 amp hour battery a break... it is what it is. Good Luck

I have the drill and a regular impact. The drill is very comfortable to use and will do almost everything you need around the house. If you need more get an electric for those occasions. As for the subcompact drill, get the one with the hammer drill. There is a collar to pick between the three settings. This makes adjusting the clutching settings much easier. Overall great little drill for around the house.

Not as heavy and bulky as the 18v and more power than a 12v. Gets into cabinets easily and has a nice charger. Very pleased!

Its a great set, giving me lighter tools for those I use the most but using the 18v battery system allows for access to serious power with the non-compact hammer drill and square-drivr impact wrenches, not to mention the circ saws, routers, etc etc etc that are much more prevalent in 18v.

I've never really been drawn to Makita tools usually its DeWalt or Porter Cable but I always knew they were very good power tools just never owned a set or wanted a set until now!!! this ultra compact size combined with 18v power has really got me looking at this set of tools from Makita, I will be getting this very soon I don't think I will be giving up my other power tools but I will certainly give these tools a try im sure I will like them just fine and will be a great addition to what I already have and gives me the opportunity to play around with a different brand of tool from what im already used to and thx for the great review of this Makita tool set and is by far the best detailed review of this tool set on TH-cam

These seem like a great homeowner/DIY set for someone who wants something small and light but with a little more oomph than a 12v, and to enter into the huge Makita 18v LXT ecosystem, like the little portable wet/dry vac. There's even a coffeemaker you can run off of LXT packs that would be great for camping.

I got this one because I needed an impact with torque control, and the only other option was the Milwaukee One Key, and I really wasn't fond of the though of pulling out my phone, opening an app, CONNECTING TO MY FREAKIN' DRILL, then adjusting the torque. Despite my buying only for one feature, I don't think I could've found a better impact, or better family of compatible tools, after using it.

I run a business as an Apple Specialist, so I also know the probability of your phone connecting the first time, every time, to get the job done fast. Second, I got this to work on my Cadillac's. Who wants to touch their iPhone with greasy hands? Good idea on paper for Milwaukee, absolutely horrid in the real world.

I’m a small guy with small hands and the drill felt so comfortable and light weight compared to my ryobi! I already have a dewalt impact but I just need the drill.. the stand alone drill costs 99 and if of buy the batteries it’s another 79? Well right now it’s on sale for 179! I might as well get the kit?? Extras don’t hurt!

  • @raekc4839

Thanks. This was an excellent video to show features and explain use. I wasn't sure if I was using the impact driver correctly. I'm used to my Ryobi battery drill. I'm drilling 2x4s into very old (200+ yr old) wood studs. The impact driver seemed too loud and didn't seem to go through the wood as nicely as the regular driver. I think now, maybe I had it on wrong setting after watching video and wasn't sure how to set. I kept trying to get just the H light to come one but now I see it doesn't do that. I will give it another try with the auto setting but don't know how much I will actually need the impact driver for this current job I'm doing. Maybe when I repair deck and fence, I'll need something like this. (BTW, I'm using self driving screws if that matters)

Thanks for doing this. A great video! I was just made aware for the first time, today, that these new Black units are on the market (Email from Makita). So to TH-cam I go, to see how they are doing. I am so glad they decided to use the same battery, as we just took another order in of new batteries. Adoption would be much slower, if they had gone to a new battery.

I am torn between this and the Dewalt dck283D2 which is on sale at the same price as the Makita. I had the Nextec and it broke when I tried to unscrew large bolts. I have one of these brand (Makita xph102) and IDK if its just bad luck or what but I hate the chuck mechanism. I was repairing my front porch (its seen better days) just normal maintenance here and there occasional screw for a board that pops up when you step on it or screw for a loose rail and the thing just did not work well for me (clutch the drill worked flawlessly) some boards 7 was perfect others the screw would stick out a inch.. It just went back and forth and the porch was made from all the same lumber. It's aged so I'm sure that played a part but some timed 7 was perfect other times 12 and it just seemed more of a hassle to try and find the perfect spot then anything else.

I never understood why the ‘clutch’ is on drills instead of impacts when drills are for drill bits and impact drivers are for driving screws 🤨

Should just take a little longer and do smaller holes width wise not length

Great review, do you know if Makita will be coming out with a subcompact screw driver that will be a part of theses, thanks

will a bigger battery give the drill more power or just more charge ? I'm thinking about the big drill bit going through the wood.
Also you didn't mention what setting the impact was on when putting the screws in. Great review still.

Rufudhrur Dhdhrjdjr: bigger battery = longer runtimes, not more power to drill a larger bit

Interesting. I don't see these listed on Makitas site yet, but it's on HD's site

+InYourFaceBudday I assume this is a Home Depot exclusive (for a short time) prior to being widely released. That is where I bought it.

Your video is perfect timing. I was just about to purchase a makita 12v unit. With the weight nearly identical, i'll be buying this instead since I'm already heavily invested into makita. Thanks
