    I owned at one point the DCD996, DCD998, And DCD999 and the 998 is definitely the most power Dewalt drill I have ever owned. However the m18 fuel drill, and flex turbo seem to be the absolute most powerful drill on the market. I stumbled across your channel and have a couple of comments.
    First item is if you can get your hands on the Ridgid 12A battery, would love to see a comparison.
    Second item is the Octane batteries. Currently, HomeDepot is selling 3A Octane batteries.
    I believe I have every Ridgid battery type except the 12A battery. I have 1.5A (which is about 10y old and still going stong), the Octane 3A and 6A, and all the 2A, 4A, and 6A variations.
    As you stated at the end, chose the right battery for the job.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 12ah battery is available here but I am not sure if I will be getting it. While it might provide a power bump on the tool, at some point I feel the size of the battery becomes counter productive due to the increased weight. That’s just my opinion obviously. As for the octane batteries, while those batteries would be new to me, they are not newly produced batteries but instead old stock. That’s my reason for not buying them now. In essence without an octane tool it would just be a battery with 21700 cells which we already have in the 8ah. If you have them and they work, then great but that’s what kept me from buying “new” octane batteries.

    For 95% of us, the 800 ft. lb. hammer drill does the job fairly easily. With 1250 ft. lbs. it's becoming a meaningless numbers game, like with wattage in stereos. And with wattage, more doesn't necessarily mean louder. But with that said, if one absolutely has to have 1250 to say "mine's better" then the Black Friday HD of this hammer drill paired with a 1/4" impact with the 4 ah and 6 ah plus charger and a hard storage case PLUS TWO FREE TOOLS for $379 is a very good deal! I'd choose the 8 ah (just so I can say I have one) and 1/2" sub compact impact rated at 250 ft. lb. breakaway for my freebies.

    • @TinkerWithTools

      Home Depot has now lowered the price of that Ridgid combo kit to $359 across most markets, and I just picked one up in CT for $342 in store with the 2 free tools. I returned both free tools, thereby hacking the deal down to $166 for the Ridgid High Torque Hammer Drill / 4 mode Impact Driver combo.
      It's now the 3rd week of January 2024 and that's the cheapest I've seen this combo for.
      I believe it might go slightly cheaper next week in their effort to get rid of the last combo sets they have leftover from the Holidays with the cost of the kit possibly going as low as $329.
      If you're in the market for that combo, keep your eyes open for that price around 1/25 - 1/28.

    Slight difference between battaries. Not enough to buy 8 ah at $179 compared to buying a kit of 4 ah and 6 ah plus charger and bag for the same price. Plus with the smaller batteries come less weight. With the big battery is just that, big and heavy! Bosch rocked all but on a Black Friday special, Flex is best!

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it comes down to use case. There are tasks where the 8ah battery will let the drill complete a task where the others for fail. For the vast majority of individuals they will never meet a task like that.

      They do have them occasionally and you can buy them on Amazon or ebay as well. With Direct Tools, they don't often ship their more desirable items and I don't have one near me. • @Techprep23
    @Techprep23 ปีที่แล้ว

    While I'm sure you get more power and longer duration of amp draw thus providing more spec'd power longer, the weight disproportionately is now bottom heavy. And off sets the weight of the motor housing when having to drill any hole that isn't strait up and down. Thus leaving now more room for fatigue of your hands.

    • @TinkerWithTools
      @TinkerWithTools  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The weight is a factor. That’s why I talked about choose the right battery for the right job. There isn’t a whole lot of point to an 8ah battery for a single 2” deck screw but when doing demanding jobs it makes a lot of sense. Overall the Ridgid isn’t a bad size in my opinion.

    • @DiligentDave1966
      @DiligentDave1966 ปีที่แล้ว

      Techrep, I wish Ridgid and Milwaukee would make a 21700 cell battery that didn’t weigh as much as the tool itself.
      Hopefully they will release the stacked lithium batteries soon like they said they would.

    • @Techprep23
      @Techprep23 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DiligentDave1966 it would be nice. I have some 3amp octane batteries I found new on sale at home Depot that are 21700 cells. And I bought all I could find before they were gone. The part that is annoying is Ridgid is owned by Milwaukee and they have pissing matches with each other. So when Ridgid octane tools out did Milwaukee tools. The high torque impact wrench for example. Milwaukee got their feelings hurt and nerfed the Ridgid line when they came out with the new "brushless" line that is the current models. What Milwaukee fails to realize is that no one is switching battery platforms for 10-15% better specs either way from one brand to the other. I'm team orange and not switching to Milwaukee for better torque just because the new high torque impact wrench is less power than the octane model. So we the consume get screwed.
      As far as the weight distribution goes I don't use anything more than a 3 amp hour battery on an impact driver or the subcompact impact wrench I have. A drill I will use a four or six amp hr. To balance the weight between battery and motor housing.
      It would be nice to have the pouch cells like the DeWalt power stack but for Ridgid. Smaller case less weight. Lower amp hr rating sure but higher amp draws for longer can be achieved. Thus having closer to rated power for longer durations

      Don't get me wrong, I love your videos. But DeWalt makes batteries with 21700 cells that would be a better apples to apples comparison. Because now you have multiple cell types (18650 and 21700), with varying amounts of cells in each battery.
