Greg joined the WoW team when they embraced the "bring the player not the class" philosophy and when the game started declining... As for a Candace I can't imagine how it was working with the team she was with at Blizzard with all we know now about the law suit and everything, but she sadly worked when the game was going downhill. Let's just hope they figured out why the decline started and they will fix those problems on their new game, that's all my hopes.
WoW as a single product was declining overall during that time, yes. However, the raid and dungeon encounters have been getting better every expansion in my opinion. And that's the bit Candace was working on. So it's not fair to attribute the decline of the game to her, and her alone. If anything, the bit she worked on is the bit that kept me subbed. In general though, yes, WoW has been declining for years, that much is true and Greg was in charge of more bits due to his leadership role so you can easily say "Well Greg is to blame". But if you look at what he was in charge of (class, item, profession, combat, encounter, UI, PVP and major feature design) and take a look at how those things were doing in the time he was there.. Greg did a pretty good job. Greg was there between 2008 and 2013 so he worked on most of Lich, all of Cata, All of Mists and probably a little bit of WoD. So let's look at that. Lich King New BG Raiding by and large, was innovative Systems non invasive Cata 2 New BGs Iconic Raids mostly received well. Systems non invasive Mists 3 New BGs I didn't RAID much in Mists so can't comment Systems non invasive Post Greg World (WoD and after) 1 BG since Greg left in 2018 Raid quality is still high overall. Systems have become incredibly invasive, switching from "fun" systems to "retention" systems. I dislike them, but I enjoy raiding so much that I stick with it. You have to look at the detail, and who was working on what before deciding who was at fault. WoWs big decline begun reall begun in WoD, based on the fact they stopped sharing sub numbers. It couldn't ave been good. Before that was typical bell curve stuff.
At the time Greg was on the WoW team I was playing arenas at a duelist or gladiator level and a member of the top raiding guild on my server. When Greg would give feedback to why they nerfed something or made a change, I found that I agreed with 95% of the reasoning. It seemed very on point with my experiences and the data I would see on statistics websites. Greg was with Blizzard from BC to MOP IIRC, and I would really say WoD was where the game went down and only Legion since then has been a solid expansion. I cannot recall ever seeing high performance players disagreeing with the changes they made balance wise as we understood the reasoning.
I am confident that the game will be good, if not great. Riot is very good at making games. My only concern is monetization. Normally I ignore f2p but... Riot has my attention and I'm willing to follow the development. If it ends up p2w or pay for convenience, then I'll pass.
Based on (idk how long ago this was) Ghostcrawler saying something about monetization probably being similar to their other games, I would assume F2P with buyable cosmetics. I would be absolutely devastated if it was P2W so I share your concern!
This is true. But Riots approach is typically to innovate, rather than renovate. They're going to take what already works from other games and improve it. It's what they did with League, it's what they did with Valorant, it's what they did with the Dota Autochess mod (for TFT). They'll do it agian.
Although one of their job adverts did ask for mobile experience. I imagine it's for a companion app. I spoke about it in an earlier vid :) th-cam.com/video/QIJmyUb54_Q/w-d-xo.html
Great video. Here is my feedback on things to improve : Thumbnail and title could be more catchy without dipping into clickbait. And frankly ... that's all, it was a good straight to the point video, with the right amount of your own opinion and facts /sources
Thanks Thomas. I appreciate it :) I think this too. But I'm struggling to find a solution rn. I actually have a real moral conundrum with titles and thumbnails. I really dislike clickbait so I try to avoid it on my videos. That said, I've been paying attention to my own habits and I do click on some "clickbaity" stuff so I know I'm harming my channel by not going into clickbait. Even using the word "revealed" in the thumbnail was almost too much for me as it felt clickbaity 🤣 I'm experimenting for now, so hopefully I'll find the right balance soon. It's hard to stand out without going into pure clickbait territory. This video could have been; "RIOT EXPOSED :- WE KNOW THE MMO TEAM" or something. But I'd hate that 😂
i've tried every mmo, and i always coming back to BDO. i just want a fun and fluid combat and fun gameplay loop, BDO combat ruined me, after playing BDO for 2 years it's hard for me to play other mmo because the combat doesn't feel right. about monetization i would rather the game being F2P and pay for expensive cosmetics than pay for subs + expac + cash shop and i hope they didn't make their game so inconvenience so they can sell convenience stuff in the game.
You can have a dream team of tallented individual and still get a shit product. FF14 is proof of that. The most important role is still who is the producer. it's him who set the direction, the timetable, the monetisation etc. the rest are all obeying orders.
Can't say I'm familiar with the original FF14 team, but I know a few people who really enjoy FF right now who would say it's far from a bad game. I never got on with the movement personally but that's just me. Producers are more on the Mgmt side. They have less direct power over some of that stuff than you might think. Lots of influence, but not a lot of power. It's a subtle, but important difference
@@ShambitsGaming He is probably talking about ff14 1.0 which was so bad that the game had to shutdown. You should check out the documenty doen by noclip about ff14 seeing it fall and rise.

@@Tom-Pendragon cool thanks. Iv not watched that documentary in a while. Might go back and watch it again :D I used Wildsar as my "not guaranteed success" example but FF 1.0 is another good one it seems.
You missed another important writing team member. Graham Mcneil en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_McNeill Writer of a lot of Warhammer's lore and league of legends lore.
I spoke about Graham in a previous video (my very first one!) :) This particular video was focused on the MMO staff, rather than the league universe as a whole which is what Graham writes for as I understand it? Although they're obviously related.
I just hate when MMO players moan about balance so much that any and all class identity gets stripped in favor of balance. If an assassin surprises you and takes you out from stealth, that's what assassins are supposed to be good at. However, an assassin shouldn't be able to tank or be really good in open combat.
I'm going to copy and paste another reply to a similiar comment here rather than re-type it all out again. Hope you don't mind. TLDR though, I disagree with you. Long version (the previous comment) WoW as a single product was declining overall during that team, yes. And I know that Riot is a company and they have to make money not lose but its not losing money its getting numbers and "Investing" .
If riot mmo was made, would it beat WoW or not? Will you be number 1

Great videos.
Heroes of newerth was shut down this June.
Dota 2 is too slow, toxic and guilty before innocent report system.
These are moba/rts kinda like starcraft/wc3.
I still play mmorpg/wow (turtle) private with a 'hardcore' script.
death = delete so it is as 'intended'.
Still, looking for a new home for RTS but also mmorpg.
Man I miss Heroes of Newerth. I used to play Scout like every game and was a total piece of s***. haha.

Raid quality is still high overall.
You and me both brother.
I don't want to play pay to win.
Based on (idk how long ago this was) Ghostcrawler saying something about monetization probably being similar to their other games, I would assume F2P with buyable cosmetics. I would be absolutely devastated if it was P2W so I share your concern!
Doesn't matter how "good" the developers are. If the concept and idea is fucking stupid, then its fucking stupid.
This is true. But Riots approach is typically to innovate, rather than renovate. They're going to take what already works from other games and improve it.
It's what they did with League, it's what they did with Valorant, it's what they did with the Dota Autochess mod (for TFT). They'll do it agian.
No, you're a good video! (thanks)
I hope they add it on mobile ☺️
I do not.
Although one of their job adverts did ask for mobile experience. I imagine it's for a companion app.
I spoke about it in an earlier vid :)

Excellent vid #asmongold should watch this
He should ;)
Great video. Here is my feedback on things to improve : Thumbnail and title could be more catchy without dipping into clickbait.
And frankly ... that's all, it was a good straight to the point video, with the right amount of your own opinion and facts /sources
Thanks Thomas. I appreciate it :)
I think this too.
Even using the word "revealed" in the thumbnail was almost too much for me as it felt clickbaity 🤣
I'm experimenting for now, so hopefully I'll find the right balance soon. It's hard to stand out without going into pure clickbait territory.
This video could have been;
"RIOT EXPOSED :- WE KNOW THE MMO TEAM"
or something. But I'd hate that 😂
@@ShambitsGaming haha I get how you feel. And props to you for avoiding the clickbait plague.
ff14 just built different
i've tried every mmo, and i always coming back to BDO. i just want a fun and fluid combat and fun gameplay loop, BDO combat ruined me, after playing BDO for 2 years it's hard for me to play other mmo because the combat doesn't feel right.
about monetization i would rather the game being F2P and pay for expensive cosmetics than pay for subs + expac + cash shop and i hope they didn't make their game so inconvenience so they can sell convenience stuff in the game.
I haven't tried BDO. There's a guy from work who LOVES it though. Have you tried GW2? is the combat similar?
from asmongold video! good video was a good watch. Good luck on the channel
Hey, thanks! :)
Keşke türkçe altyazı olsaydı
Yes
@@ShambitsGaming Like Tom Pendragon said: i'm refering to 1.0 a game made by tons of very, very talented individuals. here is a few second clip showing this issue during development th-cam.com/users/clipUgkxY3nbjjG6Hrcu2kPPK6YmPpu7_yb4PcF6

Yeah I figured he was talking about 1.0. I meant I'm not familiar with the original 1.0 team.
I know Yoshi P took over from someone else and has turned it into a game that millions of people love. I watched that documentary. It's great!
@@Tom-Pendragon cool thanks.
Iv not watched that documentary in a while. Might go back and watch it again :D
I used Wildsar as my "not guaranteed success" example but FF 1.0 is another good one it seems.
You missed another important writing team member. Graham Mcneil en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_McNeill
Writer of a lot of Warhammer's lore and league of legends lore.
I spoke about Graham in a previous video (my very first one!) :)
This particular video was focused on the MMO staff, rather than the league universe as a whole which is what Graham writes for as I understand it?
Although they're obviously related.
I just hate when MMO players moan about balance so much that any and all class identity gets stripped in favor of balance. If an assassin surprises you and takes you out from stealth, that's what assassins are supposed to be good at. However, an assassin shouldn't be able to tank or be really good in open combat.
im glad asmon led me here ;p
Me too!
so all ppl who ruined WoW moved to Riot MMO?
I'm going to copy and paste another reply to a similiar comment here rather than re-type it all out again. Hope you don't mind. TLDR though, I disagree with you.
