You know, that yellow paint is sorta growing on me. Some of the vintage yamaha "Kenny Roberts" race stripes would make it pop. Sounds like it has a higher rpm misfire under acceleration, but nice job on getting to this point. 👍
I think I'd keep it as is and just ride it. It's too nice to sell and the value you'd get from riding it is more than if you sold it. Add it to the collection. It's unique.
Sounded like it was still breaking down a bit on thise 0-60 runs. Maybe changing out all the plugs will help with that. In any case, i dont think youve gotten the best out of the old girl yet. Loving this series, great to see these old bikes brought back to life.
Many Years ago I bought a Yellow Fairing in US. Now as I see this the first Time I suspected it is my Fairing. May be this Paint was made on other Turbos, too. Meanwhile mine is Silver as Original. And I love mine the same as You do. It is serious fast ... Good Luck with it!
My brother-in-law had one but the bike was destroyed when he got blown off the road in a really strong sidewind gust. Bits of the bike were still in the farmers paddock a year of so later. He got a bit banged up, but he healed. The turbo boost was like getting a kick in the backside, and so much fun to ride. You just have to keep the maintenance up on them especially looking after the turbo. The wastegate was problematic and would result in overboosting at low RPM. It would open and stay stuck open, or open way too early. Using good quality oil and keeping to the maintenance schedule will go a long way to many miles of bloody fun riding without problems.
I’ve heard that sound before and it’s either a spirometer cable, or the speedometer itself. If it has a speedometer cable disconnect it and see if the sound goes away.
I don't think you should do a full resto: that bike's all ready to be someone's new ripper! What I would do is give it a full service: fully service the brakes, fully service the charging system, fully service the carbs/airbox, and make sure everything is squared away and reliable. Then (after you make a motovlog on it please) you sell it to someone who wants to ride the wheels off it. Do what you enjoy doing most of all! That's the content we like to see
Hi.... Jeff here in Las Vegas....I might be interested in buying....do you still have the bike...? And how much would you be asking for it....? Let me know if you want to.....jeff
My 1985 Kawasaki GPz550 has a sensor just like your Yamaha, for the battery. Your Yamaha and my GPz550 were built and sold with the old-fashioned lead acid batteries that have those little removable caps. Your supposed to remove one of those caps and install the sensor in its place. I no longer use the old-fashioned lead acid batteries in my GPz550. I use a sealed battery. I disconnected and removed the sensor from the bike and connected a +12V lead to the wire that was for the sensor. This eliminated the nuisance LOW BATTERY ELECTROLITE LEVEL alarm. This remedy should work on your Yamaha.
40 pecrent on blow carful lot of fuel con sumption . had the up dated tubine model blow out at 218 ks tunnels vision at the at max .ran on mobil 1 oil spedo cable failed ran on rev counter . Natal SA
The howling you hear, that goes away when you slow down is likely the turbo. The 80's were the best days of my life.
"I am gonna try not to get hurt on this machine" 2 seconds later "Full boost" lol
That sound might be the speedometer cable needing lube...
Everything turbo is more fun! Before seeing what it ran I guessed around 5 seconds flat. Cheers GoldGuy!
That whining sound is the speedo cable, quick lube job 👌
Sounds lovely
Always sell when you ahead I've lived and built this way and it's always done me good on the money .
Do this bike a favor and paint it 😂. Also good job! I'm suprised the turbo seals are still good
Awesome bike and awesome job, I think she would be a nice keeper

Great video. That is a fast bike. I agree and think it is ready to sell. That could make someone a great mid level bike.

The snow cannon moan really got me. lol
Can’t believe your already selling it but hey just means making room for a new build good job man…

I loved these back in 82
Awesome! Remember only Jay Leno can build expensive vehicles.
I would definitly keep this one! wasn't that expensive in the first place...
I had a brand new one back in 1983 and Yamaha made a free boost kit for it, the kit gave it more boost that it would bury the boost needle.
❤Look wise i like it more than modern sports bike which all looks same. Great video..❤

I would give this Bike a full service! Its defe. Worth it.
A Good Sport Touring bike mine has 4,000 miles on it all factory silver paint original 👍😊
I looked for xj650 turbo on market place while watching this video and saw this bike lol
The whining could also be either the tacho or speedo.
The howling is your speedo drive and cable is dry at Speedo end
My first bike!
Noise your hearing is the line that goes to your seepdo u take it off and oil up and u will be fine
"80s bikes! They're So Hawt Rite Naow! " In Mugatu voice😂
"The 80s are calling" needs to stay.
Some enthusiast will buy it like it is now. Let them take it to the next level. I wouldnt mind having it in the herd, but way to far away from me.

Speedo cable needs some lube that probably the howl
Where I live we only have 91 max octane. I would love to have 93+ octane.
Is this bike for sale on fb marketplace?
Yes it is.
Maybe a wheel bearing? Either that or a dragging brake pad, or maybe even an electric fan (if there is one).
That noise your hearing is the speedo gauge it's about to go out
Is it just me but doesn't sound kinda like a light sabre from star wars when your closer to idle
I love how you wash your bike ahahahaha i do the same shit
I don’t think the power is slipping the clutch. Good chance it’s some of those shifts you made over heating the clutch.
It might have been fast in its day, but nothing like the newer bikes
Looks like she runs good, sell it and get something else before it doesn't run good anymore.
How much for the bike ?
You should try a modern sports bike like a R1 or ZX10R

I wonder if the cj900 rear disc brake set up bolt up to the seca turbo 🤔 has anyone ever done a larger brake system to the front ?

It’s a nice bike, I probably wouldn’t spend 5k on it, maybe 2-3k
I woulw sell the other bikes and keep this 1😅
Let it go get your money
There is no sound :/
It was probably in the process of still uploading, try closing out and relaunching the video. Audio should work
Straight pipe it
How to recognize beginner on bike? Using clutch when accelerating 😅
Sell it. She’s fun but send her up the road and move on to the next one.
Sell it and buy a v twin and make a bobber
not that fast...I blew one away on my RZ350
