New 3D Printable RC Suspension for 1/24 and 1/25 Scale Cars

- The wait is over! Heat up your 3D printer, the new FC-01 front suspension assembly is here. We wanted to make a simple 1/24-1/25 scale front suspension assembly that would look at home on a variety of RC builds. Inspired by popular full size double control arm front suspension assemblies such as the Mustang II front suspension, the design process began. This video serves as an introduction to the FC-01. You'll see a bit of the design, printing, and assembly process, as well as learn some basic info about this assembly. Fantastic work. I’m curious; could one scale this up? Have you tried for 1/16 or 1/18? My pc for printing is down atm otherwise I’d give it a shot.
Could be done though you'll need to source different size hardware, bearings, springs, etc. If you need help with adjusting the size of the bearing holes or other sections let us know. We should be able to make some adjustments pretty easily.
@@MakeItRC I’ll let you know what problems I run into scaling up. The bearings might be the hardest to figure out.

Definitely interested in this being offered as a physical kit. Although 3D printing is becoming more affordable I just can’t justify the expense at the moment.
Being able to incorporate into a 1/24 model car chassis is also a game changer for me - proper scale accurate customisable track widths without the need for inaccurate offset wheels.
Fusion 360 does still have free hobbyist licenses, you just can't have more than 10 ACTIVE projects but you can activate and deactivate any amount of them as you wish and you can have any amount of unactive projects as well, so it's really not limited much.
Can't use advanced features like "tool path" and stuff for CNC but that's about it.
Good to know. Doesn't sound too bad, but if you've been using it for years I can see how those changes might irritate some users. I guess too many people where stretching the definition of "personal" and "hobbyist" for Autodesk's liking. 😆

Currently doing a similar build to the Firebird where I'm using the FC-01 with the model car chassis and full interior + detailed engine bay. Not sure when the videos will drop but if you like the Firebird, I'll think you'll like this one as well. 👍

I love watching the journey of the design. This inspires me to keep trying my own. It may not be on an RC, but this really makes me want to push my own envelope in designing plastic models.

Drill/dremel, steel rod slightly larger than ball, file and your magic and you have whatever ball stud you need. One piece and all metal. A little work but worth it. Good job on design.
I love the adjustable-tension ball- link ends. I think that is a new invention for RC in general. I've noticed sloppy ball joints are a problem on all the factory 1/24 link-ends currently available..... That I've come across anyway.
It's been a great feature and while this may be the first time it's used on a scale this small, similar adjustable ball ends have been used on some RC chassis' for many years as well as some non RC applications as well.

Tinkercad does me good, i use Blender for the major design, like bodies, tinker cad for everything else like engines and suspensions, etc etc
10:08 To make gluing the small part in place easier, could you use a mortise and tenon approach for locating the parts more consistently/evenly? I think the mortise in the control arm would need to be a hole to avoid overhangs during printing, but plenty of control arms have been made like that. Just gotta make sure it doesn't weaken it in the wrong direction, I guess.
Also, as for drifting, when your stock suspension gets in the way isn't that what angle kits are for? :P
I have seen your videos and I thought the same, I have a lot of experience with blender, I found that as long you set all units to mm and start with a 1mm cube and scale from here, you can have a reasonable time, but lookup some plugins as stated in the video, some ship with blender. I will check out fusion if it's free or cheep though

For the lower spring locator….. couldn’t you just make a hole for a screw, and use a taller bolt head similar to the motor screws on my 1/10 off road stuff?
After almost finishing mine i found out about the 3d printed chassis. Id like to just order the whole chassis & steering as i dont have a printer but cant find it on shapeways. Let me know please!

Could anyone tell me what kind of bearings does he use for these builds?
Hi! So I have a cr10 and have had it for about 8 months and have printed loads of stuff but I sized up a thingiverse saturn v model to make it like 4 feet long and print it in sections and it's not printing even layers there it has spaces sometimes. Do you have any ideas? I've tried everything to fix it but nothing works.

Is it just when printing that object or does it do it no matter what object you are printing? Basically is the problem software or hardware related?
Ok so if I print other stuff it's fine and looks great but its large circles specifically it doesn't like. I think I fixed it I raised the temperature and lowerd the speed a tiny bit and it seems ok. Thanks for the help!
I can use fusion 360 year round for free because I have a design class at my HS that I'm in so I guess I'm lucky but I also hate using 360 because that class
