  • With the right tools, and a little bit of time, re-assembly of a boxlock is a pretty straightforward process. Watch along as Jack Rowe and Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, re-assemble the boxlock of an old double.

    The sad thing is we wont see any more like Jack, the new generation wont have a chance to learn the skills this chap has.
    Thank you Larry and Jack for a very nice series of videos.

    Fantastic. An old Birmingham gunsmith by the sound of his accent. The real deal.

    This series is gold, better than gold. Knowledge is better than wealth, and we stand to loose a fortune when this man departs us for the next adventure. The knowledge lost would be a travesty. Save for the few videos you’ve made here, a lifetime of valuable knowledge will one day come to an end like the Library at Alexandria. The internet should be used for exactly this, not for young confused women to shake their nethers in a miss lead attempt to garner attention.

    There is a good book on this called 'Amateur Gunsmithing', by Desmond Mills and Mike Barnes. A bit hard to find perhaps, but it has close up pics on everything. Also good chapters on other gunsmithing jobs like jointing and bluing.

    Ironic that a country with such strict firearms laws produces the finest guns in the world

    • @chrisjohnson4165
      @chrisjohnson4165 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quite strict, yes, but it's fairly easy to get a shotgun certificate, so there are hundreds of thousands and a great sporting tradition. Rifles are harder to obtain licences for, but again, there are thousands of rifle shooters in the UK.

    6:18 this has to be sac-relige. Metal hammer on metal action.
    He was tapping very softly, but that’s all you need with these old metals, often soft as hard cheese. Surely I can find a tool mark, and that is NEVER optimal. Another 100 years of people banging on there and you’ll be replacing the entire action carriage simply because it’s ugly, and you’ll know it’s in there. I refuse to use ugly marred parts when I can replace them, even for a small fortune.
