Yes - isn't it? When we sang along in our teenage years I felt the rebellious song and misheard son. Then after many years when I heard the song again, I understood the father's side - and both! ;-)

My dad died New Year’s Day this year. This pulls at my heart strings. We made music together for many many years. The last I saw him in person was my wedding day. I was 48.
A close friend of my son committed suicide and this was played at his funeral. Still brings a tear knowing the fragility of life. In my job I see many suicides. Get help if you are unhappy. 😢

I’m considering it myself. My father did something I feel was unforgivable… and that I should be the one to atone by not being anymore. Don’t think the therapy is helping but feeling more at peace with it all listening to this song.

My late husband was an amazing father and loved his sons. He was a brilliant musician and played this for his sons often. I miss him so much.

When I was growing up in the 70s they played your music a lot on the radio. Now not at all. Your music is better than anything on the radio these days. Thank you Yusuf/ Cat Stevens.
Way back in the late '60's into the '70's, this man helped to shape my view on right and wrong, how to view peace and piece of mind. I loved how he could comment on the worlds troubles and human struggle. A peaceful voice that carried a strong message

My dad last year was diagnosed with inoperable brain tumors. He was given 3 months. He lived one month. He abandoned the family when I was 7 and through the years our relationship (mostly emails) was up and down because I changed my last name to my grandpa's who DID raise me. So he was sore at me and kept a wall between me and him and I also was sore he abandoned us. I called the hospital two nights before he died. I finally said that on my part, I forgive and that I love him, it was maybe 80% true on my part but it was a gift I wanted him to have whether he wanted to unwrap it or not. He broke down and cried and said he was sorry all these years and he loved me as well. I told him I would call him Sunday but two days later I got The Call. Thing is, my mom who I loved so much died the previous month out of the blue with a stroke. She died on the 23rd of March, he died on the 23rd of April. If your parents are alive, call them out of the blue and tell them you were just calling to say you love them, because you just never know. My mom was found dead in her apartment on her birthday. I sent a 4ft Teddy Bear from Vermont Teddy Bears and didn't want to call her to wish her a happy birthday yet, I was waiting for her to call me to say "What did you do? Buying me this big bear" She never got to see the bear. Stay connected with your parents, some suck at it, but stay connected. Peace.
