There are a variety of the fake RAT 1s out there, and some are actually built very well. When I compare my fakes to my real ones, they are both of equal build quality, but the fake is built slightly heavier, but also has milled out liners. The real RAT 1 is not milled out. My fakes were part of a higher quality batch. They lock solidly and pass the spine wack tests. Now, when it comes to the RAT 1, there is really no good reason to choose a fake, as the original is so inexpensive, even in the D2 steel. My preference is the D2 with the nylon scales. My first D2 version was the carbon fiber laminate over G10. It works fine, but the nylon would be better. Though the D2 will corrode or rust easier than the AUS 8, it holds an edge about 2 times as long. As long as you clean and oil the blade, the D2 will do fine. Anyway, fakes can be well made or badly made. There are many companies making them and quality varies a great deal and materials used will vary batch to batch.
Have 1 one Clone too, and found it better than the original RAT 1. Proud to be USA. In this case, Not. Chinese did a better job in steel, locking, and certainly in price. Get one for 13 Euro's and decide for yourself. 13 E is 10 $ or so, you can't go wrong with it.

i have a real one and a knock off and I tell you all something the knock off i have is better than the original in many ways, i dont have the issue you have with the liner lock and thats always a problem with cheaper made knives but all in all what this shows me is just how much companies like to bullshit you out of your money. This is only the beginning as India starts to move into the market place, it really is becoming a disposable shit quality world so at the end of this, if you want quality get it now while you can these this is going to be ever more confusing and frequent.

I bought one as well. Not a bad knife for 18 bucks but I'd rather pay a few more dollars and get the real deal. That's what happens sometimes when you buy on eBay.
My orange fake rat one came really nice with good lockup, attention to detail, but the pocket clip cannot stay maybe the holes were not taped correctly but anyway I'll melt it in the pocket with a long lanyard
Hello Josh, you are right, the holes for tip up carry had no threads. So you can not change the pocket clip position, only tip up carry possible. I have bought 3 fake Rat-1 from ebay, and they all had this problem. On the other hand, I bought also 3 fake Rat-1 from Aliexpress, and these all were OK.
If you check out a seller on ebay that sells on other web retailers that you trust, such as amazon your chances are of getting a fake are likely reduced. I have only bought one blade off ebay.
I do not believe so. If it is a fake it is a brilliant counterfeit. eBay scares me I must admit for buying knives because I have found so many horror stories. When I bought this knife, I checked out the seller's reviews. The seller I bought it off had good reviews. I got it for a good price bang it has become my bed room package opener.
Have the exact problem take the blade out and file the end flat that hits the lock. The angle its filed let's the lock slip. Good fix it will work perfect after that.
I bought a fake Rat1 just to swap the scales. After finding they wouldn't fit I discovered that the fake knife was actually better than the original. It included ball bearings, G10 handle and the action was much better than the original non fake and cheaper. GO Figure.
@@drysori It wouldn't surprise me if they weren't involved in some way. RAT's are made in Taiwan, but legally I think they only need to be assembled in Taiwan to qualify for the made in Taiwan label. Who knows in this global economy where the parts are actually manufactured.

My Rat 1 is my go to knife. I am glad I bought mine off of knifecenter.com.

i just found out myself... I have a fake one and an orginal one...
Im not sure I would even use it with a faulty lock. It will still cut you pretty bad if you forget and it folds on you.
I have since sent it into Ontario and received a replacement. It is an excellent hard use, high value knife.

I heard that the genuine rats all have black hardware never silver
Also liners are full where copies have not. Logos are different. Screw are silver, should be black and typing is different.

I had a similar motivation. The screw holes wouldn't line up and were un usable.
