The biggest danger is other people. Animals fair, but seeing another human is another level. That's also why I was a bit mad he lit a fire at night, as it draws attention
Very wise to have listened to your intuition. There may have been signals during day or night indicating that you’re not safe but you hadn’t processed or made sense of them til that moment e.g. maybe someone lurking during day, knew you were there from the fire or noise, came back at night, etc. Great book called Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker describing lives saved by listening to sixth sense / spidey tingle and the science behind it - things we see or know but not processed.
There was a bit years ago, by Karl pilkinton I think, anyway he talks about how 5 senses only is bs, he used the example of being in a bar with your mrs when a guy walks in and starts staring at you, tho you can’t see it and nobody says anything you know somehow he is staring, always been curious about this too
That last part reminds me of my favorite creepy story that I used to tell when camping: There was a hunter in the woods, who, after a long day hunting, found himself in the middle of an immense forest. It was getting dark, and having lost his bearings, he decided to head in one direction until he was clear of the increasingly oppressive foliage. After what seemed like hours, he came across a cabin in a small clearing. Realizing how dark it had grown, he decided to see if he could stay there for the night. He approached, and found the door ajar. Nobody was inside. The hunter flopped down on the single bed, deciding to explain himself to the owner in the morning. As he looked around the inside of the cabin, he was surprised to see the walls adorned by several portraits, all painted in incredible detail. Without exception, they appeared to be staring down at him, their features twisted into looks of hatred and malice. Staring back, he grew increasingly uncomfortable. Making a concerted effort to ignore the many hateful faces, he turned to face the wall, and exhausted, he fell into a restless sleep. The next morning, the hunter awoke - he turned, blinking in unexpected sunlight. Looking up, he discovered that the cabin had no portraits, only windows.
I don't think it was a nightmare, I hear footsteps and such every single time I camp out. There are plenty of animals out in the forests watching and even walking right through camp. I have had nightly visits from deer for 2 straight weeks camping, they knew we were there... avoided us during the day but they came back every single night and would walk the same path around the tents, stopping to sniff around. I have also had bear and elk visit my camp sites. I'm sure there have been plenty of other animals that I simply didn't get a glimpse of. I have ran into some random people living deep in the forests here, but they were always friendly, although I am sure that some wouldn't be.
When using flint and steel, hold the steel over the tinder and pull the flint from underneath, leaving the sparks behind rather than trying to shoot them in.
Been watching you for years now, as I’ve grown with age I feel like your videos have grown aswell, everything you’ve posted I’ve enjoyed to watch and watching your videos has always been a breath of fresh air, keep doing your thing brother
I remember discovering your channel when I was 12, I turn 19 next month. Scary how time flies. Glad to see you still doing well Harry. It’s always great to see that notification when you’ve uploaded. Keep smashing it.
Your mud idea was great but you needed just a little more, you want to make a Cob by not using the topsoil, but the soil layer under that which is called a subsoil, then mixing in some plant fiber like tall grass to strengthen the cohesion
I work at topgolf and served you at the till. You brought back memories of when I use to watch all your videos when I was younger, thought I’d watch your new videos and really enjoyed this one🙏🏾
Next time you use a saw like that, try and keep the blade as straight as possible. Use a flexible or curved stick longer than the saw to turn it into a bow saw, that'll give you a mechanical advantage.
For when your tried to make clay, try putting dead grass/ hay in it that’s what makes it more like clay. And for a structure you need to stack stones and use the clay to connect them together
Nice shelter man! Good work. Eat the sausages, they're fine. Noises: deer, foxes, badgers, they're fine too! In the woods solo can be spooky though so props for that.
Been watching your content before the West Ham vid all them years ago but I think this is my favourite thing you’ve produced. The simple nature of this makes it perfect.
Ur like my brother the one person I’d love to get stranded in the middle of nowhere very practical and natural with bushcraft that shelters foundations look solid af 😂 and ur method of carrying ur logs is on point using something to rest them on I think it’s a smaller piece of timber but it works good job 👏
I went on a bike tour around Waveney, had a tent but so many animal noises in the night, sounded like people walking around haha.. It's surprising how many people offered water refills and even cans of drink out and about in random countryside. First night was on the beach, butt hurt from cycling, was nippy. Too much wind and no sleeping bag.. Woods was far better. Only ever done that once with a mate. Was an experience for sure. Lovely drone footage, could have watched a bit more overall not gonna lie.. Love this sort of stuff
I hope this channel gets big again... I've been watching since after he got into the football stadium like 7 years ago... he does great vlogs and deserves more views and subs.
That was fantastic, well done on your first shelter Harry and getting away from it all. I've had that before when out camping in the woods on my own. I think it's because we don't have any other stimulus throughout the day and our brains go into overdrive when we relax.
Videos like yours are so fun. I subscribed to you because of your videos of traveling to France using a scooter, and has hoped there would be more uploads like that, which there were and I enjoyed it - this video is just as good.
For anyone who tries to use a Fire Striker, please read the instructions. You don't just strike it like that, you GRIND a bit of the tinder off slowly with the striker into a little pile on the bundle, then you strike it. The sparks ignite the little pile of tinder, giving it a kickstart.
The 7 billion pounds of fatwood around would have made starting that fire way easier. I do appreciate your message though because I do feel overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle and just living the routine. I went to my uncles property yesterday and found quite a bit of evidence that some homeless are already living there and I doubt I'm going back there to set up camp so its looking like backyard camping if I want to do anything primitive. 100/100 for your creativity and usage of materials. Very nice shelter as well.
I like the way you always seem so positive and push others to better themselves, I'm trying my best to have a more positive outlook on life so I'm loving your videos 😁
Great video dude. I'd say you did quite well on your first shelter, specifically for only using that temu kit. Bravo 👏👏 One small tip/critique, never use the blade of your knife to strike a ferro rod. Especially in a true survival sitting, doing so will quickly dull your knife.Use the included striker or the spine of a knife with a 90° edge. That being said, overall a great and entertaining video.
I have some advice you are in a place with a bunch of fern grab the fern and just drag your hand in a fist while the fern is in your fist and you will get all the leafs off of it and cover your roof with it. it will give it more protection and Installation
I love camping and I can't wait for it to get cold here so I can go. I can't do the heat here cuz it'd kill me lol but cold, I can handle! Great video!❤
Pro tip use the back of the blade to scrape the flint snd the use it at a 90 dergree angle to get a good amout of sparks and make a fether stick to help you light it
U did well but some tips for if u do this again in the future : although the dirt in the area was quite dry you could have used it to cover up the bottoms of the walls as to not allow insects in and you could have also used a lot of the ferns around under your floor or bed for cushioning
So for when you want to use the flint. You want to make a birds nest and to make that you need the bark from a birtch tree and for a like shape birds nest. They you want to take some more birtch bark and role it in you hand over the fire pit and it will leave you with small bit if it. Then you can start with the flint and just rubing hard enaugh but not to hard because you dont want a spark yet. After rubing the flint over the fire . You can then strike it so in creats a spark and that should start you fire
that tent would have made a good roof and wall. using all those logs on the roof could be a waste of energy in a real survival situation. Bang up job on the shelter, however. especially for a first time construction. good video keep on rocking man.
Sausages will last longer than 5 hours out of a fridge. You can use dried grass for the soil, dig down deeper and use below the top soil. Then mix in the dry grass that you break up into small pieces, then use fist fulls and throw it on the walls from the bottom up, packing it down as you go. Also which Forest were you in? Look it up, there are a few forests in the uk that a lot of wild campers will not camp in because of that exact same thing that you experienced…. So look it up, might be more to it?!

The biggest danger is other people. Animals fair, but seeing another human is another level. That's also why I was a bit mad he lit a fire at night, as it draws attention
Personally I would have put a few trip wires around the camp, none lethal but noise makers. Place around 30ft away from camp, they work
People, sure. But animals in the UK? To quote Al Murrey; "squirrels aren't going to hunt you down in packs.." 😅

23:00 Fair plays leaving at witching hour. Those forests have a lot of history, many medieval battles been near them.

Why though? Just take a lighter or at least a box of matches. Come on man
