Small little fun fact: Dva is the second youngest of the entire roster at the age of 19 (the youngest being Orisa, since she was created after the Omnic Crisis and when Doomfist terrorized Numbani) yet she tries to singlehandedly bear the weight of protecting all of Korea
What kills me about D.Va's short is the INSANE amount of spin the media puts on her story. The whole cutesy screen flicker to downplay the fact that four out of five members of MEKA went down, the line about D.Va getting away "without a scratch," the idea that they're living the life of an idol instead of constantly doing patrols and battle simulations... she's a literal child soldier and for whatever reason the government is perfectly happy to make it seem like it's just a fun video game or TV show instead of a traumatic series of events. The layers of complexity definitely make this one my second favorite... second only to "Infiltration." Subscribing now because I can't WAIT to see you guys react to that one.
It's always difficult to justify all of the different hero archetypes when you try to make a coherent and reasonable lore. Like if a hero squad want's to be truly optimised, they would recruit mostly tall buff men or something like that. To justify this 19-y-old girl, they actually made some pretty clever lore. The first omnic crisis required an impromptu call to arms to fight it. The meka suits were all prepared but they haven't fully trained anyone to pilot the novel new tech. Conventional soldiers could aim a gun. Can that immediately translate to aiming with a joystick? They had to improvise with a demographic that are adept to learning new consoles very quickly. Here comes 5 prodigious gamers. From there, consider some real world factors: 1) Sth Korea has a strong TV-idol culture. Perhaps they are so popular to the public that they influenced the government to make them permanent agents 2) Sth Korea has a mandatory draft that requires every citizen to serve a few years. So recruiting barely adults is already not unprecedented. All and all, they did their absolute best to make reasonable justifications for recruiting 19 year old gamer girl.
It's also clear that she has some serious psychological scarring. Her mech is a coping mechanism - if it's ready and undamaged, than she feels confident, but seeing even that single scratch on it (admittedly a sizable one but essentially cosmetic damage) immediately made her think of the moment she felt her team being taken down one after another around her. When it's destroyed by the reactor explosion, she throws herself, while still unable to so much as walk unassisted, right into building a new one. Sure, that floating structure is a nice place to live (I think it's MEKA's base of operations, maybe? I doubt it's just _her_ house, even if she is a celebrity hero and all), but it also isolates her from the nation somewhat, while keeping her nearby, thus allowing for admittedly shady governmental and military practices but also hiding that mental state of hers. I'm unsure as to whether she gets the help she needs (being part of a team of five while the other four are out of commission definitely is a low point for her in any case) but certainly Dae-hyun (the mechanic friend) is helping her perhaps more than he knows - though, given how secure that place is sure to be, and likely under constant surveillance just in case given what they're up against is a constantly adapting force not afraid of innocent casualties, he might only be allowed there because he's integral to her continued mental well-being, rather than by her request - and yes, he's obviously a bit friendzoned. Part of it is admittedly that the game is rated too low for it, but also consider that Hana is 19. She already is under the stress of being part of her nation's last remaining lines of defense, and has likely seen friends die around her and right in front of her at the hands of an enemy that does not care and will do it again. She doesn't have the mental stability to worry herself over that, and I think he knows it - he might want to later in life, sure, but he certainly does not seem to have any intent to stress her out with that sort of development. They also appear to be childhood friends, given the whole hoverbike story and just how they interact - and that he's allowed to be there in what is essentially her home in the first place - among other things. It's a big turning point to her to admit that she needs his help, and to let even him see through that shell crafted by propaganda and training, that she is this always-ready unbeatable opponent without even trying any more than as if it were a game, is a big mental perspective shift for her. The way this is portrayed is excellent, and is actually exceptionally darker than a mere 'and they're in a relationship' type of thing, but whatever. Not like the companies care for, I dunno, psychological scarring exactly like what is depicted here on a more extreme scale for the sake of getting the message across. Wonderful world we're in. Anyways I should probably stop psychoanalyzing a fictional character now
the medias here want to prevent a panic. the MEKAs are their sole line of defense against the gwishin, and if they fail, everyone die. In that context, would you want the public to know last mission was a near defeat? Also it helps that competitive gaming is treated like soccer is in otehr countries, so Dva and her teammates were probably already recognized stars even before she got in a MEKA, and the medias just followed suit to help presenting the situation in a reassuring manner. As for her being a child soldier, its purely because they needed gamers to operate the mechs instead of soldiers: helps a lot witht he fact the defense matrix does NOT automatically shoot projectiles down, but rather assists the pilot in doing just that manually; and it here dva's ability to realise many actions in a very short time (APM or actions per minute in gaming terms, which she calls out in game when using the matrix, supporteb by the fact she is an avid starcraft player where having an apm as high as possible is a hallmark of competitive players) makes her an ideal pilot, and most proficient gamers are very young adults. That and since the Gwishin is an adaptive threat that always comes back prepared for what defeated it last time, maybe once again gamers that know how to improvise and take calculated risks while working as a team would be better than a military that would operate more "by the book" and thus would be more predictable/less creative. hell even the weaponry of Dva's meka reflects that: automatic shotguns instead of a more accurate weapon, thus using a weapon thats not easily predictable and avoidable by a machine Overall she is the best choice for the task.. and at 19 she's an adult mind you, even if still very young (she didnt do this for years on end).

For fuck's sake, not long ago the country was a revolving door of military dictatorships and coups (the First Republic of Korea was founded in 1948, they are on Fifth Republic of Korea now, with several other dictatorships and revolutions squeezed in between the "republics"), and the country is owned and run by a handful of corporations/groups called Chaebols. And also has one of the most exploitative, abusive, and dehumanizing idol industries in the world, where idols can sue for abuse that is proven to be 100% true but still end up paying compensation to those corporations because their libel and slander laws still apply even if you are 110% truthful in your claims. In South Korea, you are legally fineable and pursuable by your abuser even if your claims of abuse were found to completely honest and proven truthful in court, because the truth is not protected, the corporation is. Fun Fact, the 'Nerf This' bit you noticed on the can? When you use her Ultimate in game, she shouts "NERF THIS!" while setting her Meka to Self-Destruct and ejecting from it. Also D.Va is my favorite Overwatch Character, alot of people feel Shooting Star fell short of other animated shorts, but I still really enjoy it especially seeing how D.Va tends to use her cheerful personality to try and deflect from the burden she feels on her shoulders.

It's actually because D.Va herself doesn't go to these gourmet restaurants. The news overexaggerates how much fame and fortune she has, but even you see in the short that she is working rather than going out all the time.
No one ever seems to notice that the medics use defribulator paddles on her near the end. That said, if I hit the water from that height, at that speed, I'd probably need them too 🤣
As a former D.va main a salute to our awesome gaming meka ace. Might not have been the best regarded trailer but was really great that she got her own spotlight. I do love that her core power is primarily her rapid reflexes and sharp deductive reasoning (the reason she was chosen for the meka program) as opposed to a mutation or gimmick, and was a fun unique twist on the ironman celebrity/intellectual sort of tech hero. A lot of fun to play to, durable but still mobile enough to basically be anywhere fast and great for hunting snipers.

A lot of these games that are T for teen never really go beyond the friend line. You can say he's friendzoned but it's more like that's all Blizzard wants them to be. Although there's always hints that they want something more. As always really glad you're exploring more of these games.

Hey guys. this came at a perfect time. I lost my best friend Monday. We played overwatch together every day and he only played dva. i ask everyone to remember him when they think of dva. Love you Thomas
It's such an Evangelion ref. Dva's headset, suit, the genshin's red core, the fact they arrived when they thought they were safe, ect. It's an enjoyable anime if nothing else.
Very nice reaction as always. These are always good to watch. League of Legends got, what seems like, a pretty interesting and compelling TV show. Which could go either way. Overwatch might be next with these snippets of interesting stories and characters. I myself have never played the game but the trailers are always entertaining!
Would love to see you on a livestream but we total understand being busy! So no worries 🥰🤗 You’ll make it eventually. We plan on doing plenty more in the future and hopefully more consistently 😇🥳
Love this one and that like Riot Games, Blizzard entertainment does great game trailers and they should do some animated movies. And I hope you both doing great.
4:11 idk if it's a small detail, or just me overthingking it, but i like how she is aiming where the mecha will be, instead of directly aiming at it, which i guess is where her gaming skill are put at. not that you really need to do that in game tho lol
Here a tldr of the omnic in korea. The omnic send a colossal mech to attack. South korea used drone to combat it. Each time the omnic loses they adapt. So they jammed the network that controlled the drone. So the human sent piloted mech to battle, but the oknic adapted to fast. So they started using korean pro gamer, since to play at a high level you need to adapt and create strategy fast. Wich bring us to now. D.va is a starcraft champion that got recruited into the MEK.
Blizzard Entertainment does indeed borrow liberally from all sorts of popular culture, especially movies. Some people call it "lazy" but in my opinion, as long as it's done tastefully, doesn't bother me. For example: this entire video gave me extremely strong Matrix vibes (due to the enemy robots, as Bethany was already pointing out) but also very much reminded me of *Pacific Rim* where it's Kaiju vs Pilots in Mechs. If you watched that film, the home base here in this Overwatch short is basically Anchorage's Shatterdome (i.e. the Jaeger base of operations). Then there's some World of Warcraft in-game cutscenes (not CGI rendered, but game graphics) at the end of certain boss fights or other types of important events... one of them sometimes criticized as being a copy & paste job from Lord of the Rings; and another one - the most recent cinematic from the Dragonflight expansion, I believe - that's just straight up in parts taken from James Cameron's Avatar: compare the Troll and Dwarf flying on dragons, all giddy, and then a big bad creature shows up... with the same scene from Avatar where Jake and Neytiri get chased by the boss bird; pardon me, I forgot its name. Again - as long as it's not distasteful or a literal shot-by-shot ripoff, I don't really mind. Quite the contrary, I think it can even help enhance the experience :) if we're being honest, we all love those kinds of moments whenever we go like: "Ohh, you know what this reminds me of? Such-and-such, that's so cool" :D at least that's how I feel about it. Anyways, I'm on a binge session with your content now (got yourself a new fan, hehehe) and determined to see it all the way through! Maybe I'll get to actually hear your opinion on the matter in another video further down the line. Who knows. But yeah, stay awesome! I hope you're having a wonderful time wherever you currently are, and as I often like to say: "Don't be good - be better" :)
i always love how dva is purposefully potrayed to us as a cutesy tv idol and then we see the real side that the media is trying to hide that the reality is, these mech fighters are just a bunch of children fighting wars, buts it’s watered down to be something simple safe easy and cute and inspiring, like being an idol more than having to do military work and burden the entire country on your back. at the end of the day she’s worked as a soldier
Sometimes, it's better to tell someone what he or she can't do... especially people who have a big burden on their shoulders, or rather think they have to carry it all by themselfs. D-Va is the perfect example for this. Either she has already PTSD or is close to getting it. The flashback is a good hint to that. Fortunatly, she came around in the end. And I must really agree with @Jason Rogue, this game is too deep in the teen rating. Sadly you won't see anything more than friendship. Actual relationships or adult affection (I don't mean sex) is nothing you will probably see. If I'm wrong in the future, I will gladly accept that 😄
@@ruud9761 Yes, many people are getting the ending of this short wrong, thinking he wants to go on a date with her and she refuses. But she stated clearly she doesn't go to those restaurants. As D.Va sees it, they are kinda having the best date she could think of already... While it's surely true that Dae-hyun would like to go to those restaurants, I always interpreted the ending as them making fun of the over the top media campaign about D.Va.
@@JaeMinJung. It's Dae-hyun, according to former lead writer Michael Chu. Then again, I guess there are several possibilities to display Korean names in Latin script...
@@IljaHordist Well if it's Daehyun then it's Daehyun. Yes there are several possibilities to display Korean names in Latin script, but Daehyun and Taehyun are two completely different names that are spelled different in the Korean script. If the former lead writer goes with Daehyun then we best off go with that.
u should really chek out the overwatc character origins! its like tiny teasr tailers for charcaters that show off a bit of their backgroud and show off some carcaters that werent featured on the cinamatics, u can lean more abot soldier 76, echo (the robot from reunion that mcree activates), doom fist(wich is the weilder of the aforemetioned gauntlet on the cinematic with the 2 kids in a meuseum) and many more! :D
Widowmaker? A strong female character? Ehm, about that... Short version of the story, mind control, killing her husband and flashes of lucidity when she is close to her own death when she realizes with horror all that she has done. And then she is back to sadistic ruthless killer until someone takes her down.
For this video, what seem to me at least was the theme of perception. When the short starts and you watch the news reel, tis say how Diva is taking out these monsters and that it was no issue and she always has the perfect life. They say how she living the glamorous life and is eating out in fancy restaurants. However, we see the contrast that she is eating junk food and is suffering from PTSD as you see in the flashback when she looking at the claw mark. In the lore, the Omnics, the same thing that attack Reinheart ,sends out these omnics to probe Korea defenses. To fight them, the Korean government there recruited the pro players to pilots these mech since they would have the reflex skills and motor skills to fight them. Side note, In the game the defense matrix is one of her abilities that allow her to shoot down any incoming enemy fire and she can boost around and shoot misses. Her ultimate or the big skills is she ejects from her suit turning into a bomb and she runs around as herself out side the mech However, she puts on the mask of bravery and is doing well but when realizes its all on the line decide to reach out to her friend for help. She let herself be vulnerable which she did not do before when her friend ask her not to put in all herself. They made her a great strong character but have flaws which is great for a well rounded character. Also notice she gets hurt but the news coverage. From what she said this was the closest the omnic got, but the perception is everything if fine because D.. Va was there. Once you dig in, you start to realize there a lot more to the story than it just seem but I think that what great story teller do as they add in layer that allow everyone to enjoy it at their own level. PS I love watching your channel and I am going through all your older videos to watch them because such great reactions and so fun to watch.
Well said 👏 and also thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying channel and binging our videos 😃🥳 Thats the fun part about us reacting to a lot of older games and what not. It’s never too late to catch a video ☺️🤗
I see that many people mentioned about "friend zoning" thing like it's a big deal, but I think it's very normal, considering her status as a soldier and celebrity at the same time, if not careful, her future may be a huge disaster, and her name will be hurt as well. My personal opinion? I'd love to see a woman who can fight independently and doesn't need to be in a relationship which is above the friendship. =))
Friendzone isn't always bad as people portrait sometimes friends can be something more in future. :) "Friendzone" has a bad rep but in my opinion it's not as bad as people think (In some cases) At the end your "girlfriend/fiancé or Wife is your best friend right ! friend zone can be just a trial for person you care about and interested in but don't want to rush it because that can be a loss. And sometimes it's just plutonic ! You just got to feel the links / hints and energy how you can work together. So I think they might have something in future that's a possibility in my book!
@@rainofkhandaq6678 Not in my experience , and I don't say it was a fact , i said in my opinion not all "Friendzone" end up friendzoned , anything can happen , have you heard of "Stockholm syndrome" it can also apply on anything . Example : When I was a kid my mother din't like lizards and won't let me get one , but eventaully i got one and she eventually started handling and carring for lizard more then me , but that period for almost half a year she was "NO WAY" type of person. And this is just on example , not all "Frindezones" are just a hard NO Life is interesting and so are people sometimes you can build something more out of nothing and it can hit you out of nowhere. You can learn to like someone eventually or dislike someone that you actually liked in the first place. vise versa.

A lot of these games that are T for teen never really go beyond the friend line. You can say he's friendzoned but it's more like that's all Blizzard wants them to be. Although there's always hints that they want something more. As always really glad you're exploring more of these games.
Well tracer had a girlfriend , so there is romantic relationships that exist in overwatch universe
Didn't you hear? Lesbian relationships don't count as much. Or something...
Lol what? Romance has never been classified as "adult" content or even "teen" content. Its in pretty much every disney movie lmao. Whachu on bruv?
@@rainofkhandaq6678 No need to go full incel in a reaction video comment section, mah boi.
@@rainofkhandaq6678 uh wtf? Not necessarily. Romance is related to anything to do with courtship. How that occurs is completely up to the person. If you got a problem with chasing tail, then don't lmao. Aint no on forcing u bruv. Leaves more for me lmao.
Yess! I couldn't wait for this one I knew you guys would like it! Definitely one of my favorite cinematics.
🥳🥳🤩 Next is Infiltration for Overwatch
No one :
Ken : you are frendzone rip 😂
🤗🙃
I’m so glad that I found this channel, very entertaining.
🥳🥳🥳 We’re glad you found it too. ☺️
I love your reactions to OW's Animation because you don't know the game, so that's really cool to see how other people understand the universe of the game
It’s still a fun universe to explore even outside that game 😃🤩
Guy got friend-zoned so hard his grandpa's family jewels turned blue. :D
🤣
LoL, "Ironman Syndrome", a.k.a. Hero's Guilt
Nice call.
But, there is a reason these story themes persist.
Truth 💯 ☺️
Hey guys. this came at a perfect time. I lost my best friend Monday. We played overwatch together every day and he only played dva. i ask everyone to remember him when they think of dva. Love you Thomas
Im sorry to hear that if you need someone to talk to please just message me on this
So sorry for your loss 😢
Wow that "Welcome back" was definitely too loud for my headphones 😂🎧
Love your Content
Lmao, sorry about that 🙃🤗
Thank you for noticing the Top Gun reference! You're the first reaction channel I've seen to catch it and point it out! :)
We love nods to movies like that 🥳🥳😃
And back to Overwatch. Nicely. 👍That is all.😁
😂😁🤗🥳
Damn I got the notification late, great video btw.
☺️🥳😃
It's such an Evangelion ref. Dva's headset, suit, the genshin's red core, the fact they arrived when they thought they were safe, ect. It's an enjoyable anime if nothing else.
☺️
“Ah man your friend zoned” 💀
🙃
Loved the video, once again you continue to bring joy to my week!! 🤍
We love hearing that 😃🥳🤗
Very nice reaction as always. These are always good to watch. League of Legends got, what seems like, a pretty interesting and compelling TV show. Which could go either way.
Overwatch might be next with these snippets of interesting stories and characters. I myself have never played the game but the trailers are always entertaining!
We plan on covering the LoL Netflix series on our second channel 🥳😁
i honestly believe that an overwatch netflix series would be sooo popular it would break viewership records 😄
YOU NEED TO SEE THIS 1 Overwatch Animated Short | "Infiltration"
It is next in our OW journey 🥳
The most overgrown kids.

When d'va uses her ultimate in game she shouts "nerf this!" As she sends her self destructing mech at the enemy team.
😎🤟😁
This is what I needed a great reaction thanks for this vid guys I had a bad day so thank you ❤️😔

Would love to see you on a livestream but we total understand being busy! So no worries 🥰🤗 You’ll make it eventually. We plan on doing plenty more in the future and hopefully more consistently 😇🥳
Love your videos!
☺️🥳🤗😃
y’all are 2 very likable people
Thanks so much! 😊🤗🥳
Love this one and that like Riot Games, Blizzard entertainment does great game trailers and they should do some animated movies. And I hope you both doing great.
Agreed an animated movie from Overwatch would be great 😃 And we are doing well 😊
Only two left!
🥳🥳🥳😃
4:11 idk if it's a small detail, or just me overthingking it, but i like how she is aiming where the mecha will be, instead of directly aiming at it, which i guess is where her gaming skill are put at. not that you really need to do that in game tho lol
No you aren’t overthinking it , that was a nice detail ☺️
@@ItsMeBarnaby wasn't it hitscan?

Wait really? Taehung or whatever his name is, he is voiced by Johnny Young??

Meanwhile queue time match on console is taking forever...🤣🤣🤣
Here a tldr of the omnic in korea. The omnic send a colossal mech to attack. South korea used drone to combat it. Each time the omnic loses they adapt. So they jammed the network that controlled the drone. So the human sent piloted mech to battle, but the oknic adapted to fast. So they started using korean pro gamer, since to play at a high level you need to adapt and create strategy fast. Wich bring us to now. D.va is a starcraft champion that got recruited into the MEK.
😎👍
I can't wait to you guys react to overwatch cinematic "Infiltration"!!
It will be our next Overwatch vid 🥳🥳
Great reaction!
Thanks, Samuel! 😃🥳
7:53 that how i call this movie x)
definitely not definitive: they look like those tentacle things from matrix
kids this generation: whats matrix?
😂 👵🏻 👴 🤗
i always love how dva is purposefully potrayed to us as a cutesy tv idol and then we see the real side that the media is trying to hide that the reality is, these mech fighters are just a bunch of children fighting wars, buts it’s watered down to be something simple safe easy and cute and inspiring, like being an idol more than having to do military work and burden the entire country on your back. at the end of the day she’s worked as a soldier
I love you two so mutch !!💞
Thanks! 😃🥰🤗
If I'm wrong in the future, I will gladly accept that 😄
Haha, thanks for the analysis! 😃🥳🤩
is...relationship really that big of a deal?
@@pacifistminigun3987 Not really. Just wanted to say it 😅 I would like it, yes but if it doesn't happen then I wouldn't have a problem with it 😄
Friendzone in Asian Culture means you are getting close to Love.
🥰
I am riding this for the algorithm ❤️✌️
🥳🥳🍾🥂
Not friend zone. They are an operation team. Hes the information support / technical support. Its military style.
😎🤟
"Ironman Syndrome" = How people in 2021 refer to PTSD.
Side note: I don't think Tehyun is actually interested in D'va.
We did talk about that later how it seems Tehyun is cool with just being friends 😊
Correction, it's spelled Taehyun
@@JaeMinJung. It's Dae-hyun, according to former lead writer Michael Chu.
Then again, I guess there are several possibilities to display Korean names in Latin script...
@@IljaHordist Well if it's Daehyun then it's Daehyun. Yes there are several possibilities to display Korean names in Latin script, but Daehyun and Taehyun are two completely different names that are spelled different in the Korean script. If the former lead writer goes with Daehyun then we best off go with that.
nice! friends zone, sad :(
😂🤗
Have you guys seen any Crysis game trailers? Its a little old but Crysis 3 had some decent, story trailer, gameplay (7 wonders stuff)

u should really chek out the overwatc character origins! its like tiny teasr tailers for charcaters that show off a bit of their backgroud and show off some carcaters that werent featured on the cinamatics, u can lean more abot soldier 76, echo (the robot from reunion that mcree activates), doom fist(wich is the weilder of the aforemetioned gauntlet on the cinematic with the 2 kids in a meuseum) and many more! :D
We will check them out after the cinematics 😃

It’ll happen on second channel. th-cam.com/channels/bKJne36C-ewDbozVT2W-tA.html 🥳
fun fact: the voice actor of dae-hyun (the dude) is the same as apex legend's crypto

Widowmaker? A strong female character? Ehm, about that... Short version of the story, mind control, killing her husband and flashes of lucidity when she is close to her own death when she realizes with horror all that she has done. And then she is back to sadistic ruthless killer until someone takes her down.
Never said she was a nice character 😂🤗😉
Her ultimate or the big skills is she ejects from her suit turning into a bomb and she runs around as herself out side the mech
However, she puts on the mask of bravery and is doing well but when realizes its all on the line decide to reach out to her friend for help.
PS
I love watching your channel and I am going through all your older videos to watch them because such great reactions and so fun to watch.
😎🤟😊
i cant wait for you to watch zero hour! it gives me goosebumps every time
😃🥳🤩
I think the last bastion is the best because he is a robot who doesn't like a robot?
We can’t argue with that logic ☺️🥰😍
Friendzone isn't always bad as people portrait sometimes friends can be something more in future. :) "Friendzone" has a bad rep but in my opinion it's not as bad as people think (In some cases)
At the end your "girlfriend/fiancé or Wife is your best friend right !
friend zone can be just a trial for person you care about and interested in but don't want to rush it because that can be a loss.
And this is just on example , not all "Frindezones" are just a hard NO
Life is interesting and so are people sometimes you can build something more out of nothing and it can hit you out of nowhere.
You can learn to like someone eventually or dislike someone that you actually liked in the first place. vise versa.
We are definitely each other’s best friend 😊🥰🤗
