A lot of their original class design decisions were based more around lore and rpg elements than actual gameplay. Why wax exorcism only usable on undead/demons? Because you're a paladin. Why were Undead Shadow priests the strongest shadow priests? Because technically being undead, using the light would hurt them so they become the best Shadowpriests. This kind of design decisions isn't technically "balanced" but the game honestly started to nose dive when they threw all their effort into trying to make some esport.
+MrZurata I think it's very cool that the undead priests rather than command the light, are actually shushing away the darkness to create a vacuum the light naturally fills in order to cast holy spells.
+MrZurata Lore quality has been on a steady decline since WoWs release. For example, Horde vs. Alliance conflict. No faction can win (balance/gameplay reasons), so the 'war' drags on to absurdity and the races end up being assimilated into a Humans vs. Orcs conflict. I wished so many times that WoW ended so as the story to continue (properly) elsewhere.
Vaios Gaintatzis I thought all our battles were just skirmishes, not actual war, I didn't really see many horde/ally npcs actually duking it out on purpose... that said I didn't play past wotlk.
Feal In Cataclysm the conflict steadily intensified and in Mists of Pandaria the war is open. An interesting development that, however, cannot be realized to its full narrative potential because there's this impediment called gameplay. e.g. Theramore was bombed to oblivion, but you can still see the city if you ask a bronze dragon there (and even do the quests there). Orgrimmar is raided at the end of the war and the Alliance... just walks out of the scene. No repercussions, no nothing (and normal Orgrimmar stays, well, normal, of course). Ashenvale is hacked down by the Orcs since the everdom of World of Warcraft, but Night Elves and Tyrande have somehow forgotten their 10,000 year experience of protecting their lands and are now tree-hugging buffoons. Malfurion wakes up in the Cataclysm and *still* nothing happens. Blood Elves are treated like second-class citizens by the Garrosh, but they cannot leave the Horde nor can they rebel (or any other race, for that matter), even though they are the magic powerhouse of the Horde and able to create WMDs. The list goes on. Small inconsistencies pile and pile on until the story becomes a pile of stinking kodo dunk.
I love this so much, just a bunch of guys who are really excited and passionate about what they have done and literally just putting what they thought was "cool" into the game, not necessarily what was the best or most convenient
