I ordered my polo gti in December. And i have another month to wait. My spec is, Red, with 17 inch wheels, keyless, virtual cockpit, parkpilot plus the sensors, mode select, without navigation....too expensive,
Not at all, I thought it was constructive in truth. The DSG thing was purposeful (most people will watch this after the next few months once the manual is out) but the six cylinder thing was rookie 😂 keep subscribing, it gets better 🙈👍

Got mine delivered on Tuesday. Love it. Great solid feel, just like the golf, smooth ride, sports mode is fun and sounds great. Very pleased. Hindsight though......might of gone for the blue instead of black.

Got a demo Golf GTi in Jan this year from Hadwins at Lindal. They had to search for one (from Bentleys, Coventry) as low mileage demos are as rare as rocking horse shit up in Cumbria. This one was in met black with loads of extras and 1,700 miles on the clock (reps runabout apparently). Absolutely love it, goes like the clappers, we have Spanish roads in Cumbria too btw. It's manual though and I love that. Being left-handed, I have always been quick on the gear change, so I will keep my options open about the DSG.
Haha! I’ve never thought about the benefits to left-handers when it comes to gear changes, that’s amazing! The DSG gearbox is just so good good for the money, the best in segment if I’m honest. Do you think you’ll go for the GTI?
Well, as I said, I have had it 6 months and just can't fault it. You get what you pay for in my book Craig. VW aint cheap, but great build quality and a degree of 'understatement... which I love. It does though tend to attract 'Herberts' wanting to either race you or block your overtaking path with their inferior jalopies. As regards when I do change, the juries still out whether it will be a Polo GTi or another Golf. My wife does like this Golf though and so do I.
Good video, mate. Enjoyed the comparison between the two models. Just a minor point is to try not to let your music cues play over your voice over - just use it for the car in motion when you're not talking otherwise it's too distracting.

Just to rectify what you said in the video , VW's Traffic Jam Assist work with the cruise control so don't have to use the paddles when in traffic , so the car can basically drive itself. It does not work with the Sat Nav.

I’ve got a 7 speed DSG on the previous generation Polo GTI and it’s a fantastic gear box. I’m not surprised they have change to 6 speed because mine pretty much never uses 1st. It only ever uses it to pull off from a standstill and almost immediately changes to 2nd. There is probably only 500rpm difference between 1st and 2nd.
Thanks for sharing this, really interesting to hear. 500rpm is nothing!!! I noticed on the 7 speed DSG in the Golf that in second and third gear it really climbs high into the rev counter, much longer than I expected which is why I reacted the way I did. Would you upgrade to the new Polo GTI? Which spec did you choose on your GTI?
Craig TV on mine it will rev up to the red line in normal mode (with your foot planted) and a few hundred rpm into the red with the box in sport mode. It sounds like they have toned that down a bit which is a shame. It also aggressively down shifts when braking while is sport, I really hope they haven’t changed that! I have a 2 door in Silk blue. Got it new last year so it’s the one with LED lights as standard. My next car will probably be the polo GTI+
Nice spec! I took the new Polo GTI out on track and I must admit that I didn’t notice the agressive downshifting, it was almost perfect in terms of selecting the gear you need without much drama. I wasn’t too focussed on that part to be 100% up front (average speed of 120kph on track!) but I’d definitely say it was the best gearbox for the money that I’ve ever experienced. Out of interest, what’s the main differences between the GTI and the GTI+ ?
Craig TV I wonder if perhaps the box wasn’t in sport mode when you drove it (you knock the gear lever backwards once in drive and it has S instead of D in front the selected gear on the dash). They behave very differently. For example say you brake reasonably hard it will change down to keep you around 4500-5000 rpm and keep you in that gear a few seconds assuming you want some fun. In normal drive it will change down but sensibly to more like 2500 - 3000. The GTI plus has the digital dash, adaptive cruise control, LED lights and folding wing mirrors as standard. I think that is the one you had to drive. Just had a look and you were in drive not sport during the video. If you get another with a DSG try knocking it into sport (if you didn’t on the track) it’s bloody brilliant!

I'm really interested in buying the new polo GTI but there so many trim options can you recommend the best trim with a reasonable budget?
First of all, great choice of car and thanks for asking. I can easily advise on spec (DSG gearbox etc.) but trim is quite a personal one. I really like both the red, black and white exterior colours (not too sure on the silver, Ivory, etc. ) and where an accent colour follows into certain details. The jacara tartan is nice and makes it feel like an obvious GTI). There’s a lot of people who have commented below who have bought them so feel free to add a comment to their feed :) let me know which you pick

Go for the 6 cylinder Golf GTI. If you test drove one, must be a very special model so you had better get the worlds first golf gti 2.0 litre 6 cyl model!

Is the power between the polo and golf a big difference? Or do you think the polo can hold with the golf ?
The Golf certainly goes further into the rev range and so feels faster at times but I put both the Polo GTI and the Golf GTI around the track and the Polo didn’t struggle to keep up with the Golf. The biggest leap is the Golf R which really dominated both cars. Are you looking at both?

White is a great choice. As is the red. Personally I feel as though the red is timeless and might help with the residual value honestly it’s a great car and I’d fully recommend the DSG gearbox. Which spec are you looking at?
Craig TV you can only buy it with dsg right now .. manual is only available in summer - I’m going to buy it in white with black wheels and black window .. that will look badass 😈
Solid spec! Well remembered on gearbox, you’re absolutely right. I think there are something like eight interior colours, two trims and 11 seat options?! Will you keep the black-white contrast going on the interior?

Haha, sorry 😂 I really quickly colour graded it to prevent me looking the pale-ass that I am! 🙈 using different cameras so should have changed the grading for each camera in the edit. I promise less 70s action next week!

Craig TV I ordered it with flash red, and nope, first VW. I'm moving from a 2007 1 series to 2018 Polo GTI; can imagine it's going to be quite a difference.

Nice! The Leon FR is a decent car, so good choice so far :) there is a slight difference but in my honest opinion it’s not enough to justify the price difference. If I had the Polo GTI, I’d pull up to the lights next to a Goof GTI and just think “You could have bought a second hand superbike with the difference” 😎
What spec options are you looking at?
@@UKCarReview its full option , price difference is only 25 euros extra montly for the polo gti. Im super duper happy with the Leon , its also full option but I'm just missing the extra power. What I'm really concerned about is, that I hope it won't feel like a downgrade if I pull the trigger for the polo gti. So please your thoughts on this would be appreciated 🙏
I mean, make sure to test drive them both (Golf and Polo) but honestly I took the Polo around the track at Ascari and it was brilliant! The best way I can describe it is that the new Polo GTI is like the previous Golf GTI. Feels planted, good quality and quick 💨
Would recommend the DSG gearbox. I’ve got a 981 Porsche Cayman GTS (with PDK gearbox) and honestly the gearbox in the Polo is just as good
The 2018 Polo GTI or 2018 Fiesta ST?
Really good question! I haven’t actually driven the new Fiesta ST but I’ll drop Ford an email now to see if they’re happy for me to do a side-by-side comparison video. Right now I’d say the Polo GTI because of the gearbox and based on what my friend Sideway Sid has said about the Fiesta. Are you looking at both? Thats interesting and defo do. I currently have a Polo BlueGT (150bhp) and am currently looking at upgrading to the Fiesta ST or the GTI so I am really torn right now, especially since I can't get to test drive either rn due to availability.

Thing that's putting me off the polo is the fact I'd have to go from manual to auto which I'm not keen on. Yea, completely understand. I think the manual Polo GTI is out this summer in the U.K. so could be worth for. I’ll definitely ask them for the Fiesta ST though :)

42 weeks apparently! Ordered red, with sunroof, climate control, 18” alloys, red dash pads. Was going for the deep iron, but changed my mind.
Great spec! Especially on the 18s. I think there are something like 11 options for the dash pads; crazy amount of choice! Did you opt for the Sports Select pack? I think red will definitely help hold the value, seems really popular on here 👍

No problem :) Yes, i have 2013 Polo Highline 1.2T DSG. I'm hunting for the new Polo GTI this year. I don't know how is it in other EU countries, but in Poland the VW dealership told me that the expected time for Polo GTI is about 18-20 weeks... :O Sorry for my english.
@Craig TV - btw, can You tell me a few words about the space in new Polo? Is it much bigger than last gen? (only if you had the opportunity to drive last gen :D)
Sure. In honesty, it’s easier to compare it to the previous gen Golf. The new Golf GTI does feel slightly bigger than the new Polo GTI but there’s really very little between them. There’s extra luggage space in the new Polo GTI compared to the last gen. If you get a chance to drive the previous gen Golf GTI then you’ll have a good idea of what the new Polo is like. You won’t regret buying the Polo GTI, I’m very tempted myself!

Craig TV VW is doing very good the things, I prefer them than a French car or others. The polo as a daily its a good option. I almost by the 208 gti by peugeot sport, with a good price, but at the end I prefere this with more extras and potencial in the future. The cars that I own and I owned are. Citroen c3 my first one, Audi A6, BMW M5 e39, Porsche 944 S for track, and in one month the little Polo 😬

I actually 100% agree with you. Maybe years ago it was different but now it’s just awkward to use the right side because designers have the left side in their minds when they’re thinking through things. Are you a VW fan?
Polo is the best
The DSG isn’t optional in the Polo, it comes standard. The golf GTI does not have 6 cylinders! It has a 4 cylinders. Why should we trust your opinion if you don’t know your facts.

Polo GTI on order in limestone grey with all bells and whistle. After doing extensive research in thr hot hatch category, it was no contest between golf gti and polo gti. Engine, weight, equipment level and looks were all considered. I have also test driven golf gti vi and polo gti. UP GTI is not a drivers car as it has a extremely high center of gravity and feels like a tiny SUV when u go around corners.
(Not to mention cost - most bang for your buck for performance for the Polo GTI).

Craig TV Thanks for yr reply. You hit the nail on th3 head. U get so much more for ur money with the Polo. You literally take th3 Golf Gti MQB platform and make it smaller (MQB-A0) and boom you have a polo gti. Dont forget porsche's top bloke has worked on this specific polo gti. So it feels really sporty. It arrives in august (expect long waiting lists for orders). I wish there was more choice in colour. Other than that-i dont find myself missing anything major when test driving thr Polo gti. Ticks a lotta boxes. I might uograde the sound of the engine later on (sporty exhaust/CAI)
If i really nitpick then i would wish for the DSG7 gearbox which the Golf GTI has. More buttery smoothness and VW goodness.

Craig TV yeah look up Karsten Schebsdat. He did the setup on the Polo Gti. My guess is , is that he knows his shit and is one of the reason the Polo feels so amazing. The other factor is the chassis which is a golf with a shorter wheelbase and slightily smaller dimensions. I didnt go for sports select (you should though). The levrl of customisation when i picked th3 car was OK (colours limited, interior limited, only dsg6 option)It will only get better with time.
He looks very similar to a guy who I went out on track with in Spain. It would be crazy if it was him! Good to know that you’d recommend Sports Select. Anything else that you’d recommend?
How can we valid your car jounalism when you say the golf GTI has 6 cyl. The GTI is one of the most iconic cars around - sorry to say, you are not a car guy.

Craig TV I ordered the vehicle in week 12, with a supposed 20 week lead time. I still haven't had a build week confirmed which is causing me a little frustration because the lead time seems to be getting longer and longer. But no one seems to be able to answer my questions. I didn't spec mine too much, only went with winter pack and went with pure white with a black roof for the colour as I feel the spec already suits my needs as is.
Great spec! I think the Sports Select pack is the only addition that I might have considered but that’s 100% down to the type of driving you do on a daily basis; a lot of people won’t need it. Build slots are always frustrating. Which country are you from? UK dealerships normally get told of the build slot really late and typically only know once it’s on the boat to the port.

Yes, that’s the impression that I get too. If you ever get the opportunity to collect from the factory then I’d recommend it; looks like a great experience (albeit quite an expensive one I believe!).
Hey , both are 2.0L 4 cylinder engines. You said the golf has 6 ( 6:45). Only difference is tune and one more gear in the golf. You should review wild life , that’s why you haven’t reached 1000 subs . 🤪

Nice Golf R is on another level than the GTI, its fantastic all wheel drive very good handling and interior wise its very nice with the leather seats! Well the keyless entry is a must and the big sounding system! i also heard that DDC is a must for comfort mode that i dont have so i cant say anything about it! If you going for the facelift the Akrapovic exhaust is a must because the stock one doesent sound so good! but overall its a beast! =)

U should buy the golf gti... its more larger then the polo... its hv its own secret stuff in gti ... i OWNED the golf GTI MK7 so i have more on the gti.. AND if the polo,its smaller than gti as i wrote it before...the polo also actually not good looking ,i mean its not that damn hot🔥 m

automatically applies brakes, accelerator and even steers the wheel when you are in slow stop and go , pretty cool stuff if you are using the car for commuting to work and back in peak hour traffic you can switch off or worse think about work!

Craig TV I test drove the dsg Polo GTI but only because they didn’t have a manual to test. Mine is black, tartan seats with the driver assist pack (rain sensing wipers, sat nav, cruise control and a few other things). And it has the adaptive suspension. Its mental. I love it.

Craig TV ermmm...i drive a golf r 🙈 ....however i still stand by my statement even with the obvious bias, i used to own a MK7 GTI before the R, and the R is leaps and bounds ahead of the GTI, i didn’t expect the difference to be that great, but trust me it is, feels like a much more grown up car and is MUCH faster, as it can put its power down with ease through 4 wheel drive. Mine is mapped through a company called APR and produces 400bhp and does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds

Craig TV i have driven the Focus RS, very good car, however, it didn’t give the same pure kick of acceleration that the Golf R does (especially when remapped) plus the new RS will never live up to the MK2 RS with the 2.5 5-cylinder that came before it, that, coupled with the many many engine issues that Ford have had with the 2.3 in the new RS, i personally wouldn’t go for it, plus a Golf R with DSG will kill a Focus RS for acceleration, obviously because changing gears manual will never be as quick as a dual clutch, even given the 50bhp deficit (when the golf is stock). VW Audi group vehicles are well known for understating their stock performance figures.

As above in white with factory wheels and standard seats, don't need anymore to be honest. Worked at SAAB and done many track days with Stig Blomqvist and Eric Carlsson whilst working at SAAB. I was taught how to make a SAAB dance (not on the road though). Tried it in the Clubsport but far, far to much grip and electronics to spoil the enjoyment.
