    As someone with eczema, I reach for Albolene. It's inexpensive and fragrance free. I initially got it to take off waterproof mineral sunscreen, then fell in love with the way it feels when I'm massaging it onto my face. It's also what I reach for when I feel the first sting of eczema.

    • @julias5980
      @julias5980 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I prefer Albolene as well. It really does seem to do the best job breaking up waterproof eye makeup and tenacious mineral sunscreen. Yes, it has to be removed with a soft, warm cloth b/c it doesn't emulsify, but my skin feels cleaner after Albolene than any cleansing balm or oil I've tried, including the Clinique (which would still be my top choice for emulsifying first cleansers). I follow with CeraVe foaming cleanser. Boring, but after trashing my skin with trendy products for years, I long for the comfort of the boring and the excellent.

    Sensitive skin with oily t-zone. BIG FAN of the Caudalie cleasing oil (sweet almond, castor, grape seed and sunflower oils) that turns into a milk the moment you add a bit of water in the mix. Love, love, love the original Elemis balm. It smells like calming herbs to me. I have oily-combination skin and good cleansing routine is a must. Besides melting away makeup, I like to do 5-10 minute face massages with the balm. I noticed that with the massage, the larger pores get cleansed better and the plugs melt away. I have tried cheaper options (body shop) and more expensive ones (Eve Lom) but nothing compares to Elemis. I have used the Take The Day Off cleansing balm by Clinique and I love it. Definitely took off all of my makeup, even the stubborn stuff. That was the first one I ever tried and I’ve used a couple different ones since but seem to go back to the Clinique. I used the original balm by Banila Co. called Clean it Zero and got a crazy rash all over my face. A couple of their other formulas however didn’t do that to me, so it was just something about that original formula.

    While not a cleansing balm, my favorite is NIOD's Low Viscosity Cleansing Ester. It's been my go to for nearly 6 years, never irritates, no fragrance/essential oils, not to mention it's a huge bottle and one lasts me almost a full year! Not enough people are talking about this product/not aware of it and it's a shame!

I’ve tried Elemis, Farmacy, Banila, Clean it Zero, Sunday Riley, and I always come back to Clinique cuz it’s just so good. Washes off clean while leaving the skin hydrated and just so effective

    combo hormonal acne prone skin here. I have been using “cleansing oil “ever since I start using sunscreen n make up. And ALWAYs do double cleansing - or my combo acne skin can get whitehead/acne.
    I started with many bottles of Japanese emulsifying cleansing oil. Now, I had used up many bottles of IErno Lazno cleansing oil (the original one) with their black charcoal soap .. it helps with my blackheads too!! EL cleansing system has been a stable for the past 10 years. And my mom for past 5 decades

    As someone with combination skin prone to acne, I love cleansing balms. I use the Take the Day Off Charcoal from Clinique, and it is such a nice balm I managed to double cleanse and oil grit my nose free from sebaceous filaments. Yes, I know they're a natural structure of the skin, so I do it every other night. My skin didn't break out at all, and I noticed my serums had a tad bit more effectiveness from the extra cleansing. I wouldn't lean on using cleansing oils since I feel I'd make a big mess of myself; anyway, this video was very informative. Thanks doc.

    Elemis has another cleansing balm which is VERY similar to the one by Then I Met You, it’s called a cleansing butter and it has pumpkin something in it. I love it so much that I bought another immediately after I’d used up the first one. Also a cleansing butter by a Korean brand Banila (the orange one) is very very nice and it smells amazing!

My favs are The body shop Camellia cleansing oil or balm, Drunk Elephant Slai, the Farmacy Green clean (currently have the trio they released), or Decleor Micellar Cleaning oil or Elisabeth Arden Cleansing oil. The good molecules one is really good too but not easily available in the UK.

    Another nerd hopping on to sing the praises of Banila Co Clean it Zero!! They have a few formulations, but I’ve only tried the moisturizing (yellow) version, but may try another formula (the revitalizing/teal). I have silicone spatulas that have the scooper on one end and small nubs on the other. Fantastic to scoop product out and also gently massage the skin while spreading the cleanser.
    Thank you for all your wisdom!!!

      Everytime I hear people mention Ponds I'm incredibly skeptical. I haven't tried it, but because it doesn't seem oil based I assume people who use it don't really wear much makeup at all. For example, I wear sunscreen and foundation and powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara. Would it be strong enough to melt off all of that? I'm just imagining using so much cream and so many tissues with that.

    • @Szido13
      @Szido13 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kay2be2mr hey I do wear full makeup too - Ponds removes all as step one, next I go with wet soft towel and after with CeRaVe cleansing lotions. The combo wins. At least for me. I actually got this routine from others :)

      Yes! I like Ponds cold cream for first step. It breaks up everything well (even waterproof mascara) very gently. I like to use a wet microfiber face cloth to wipe off, then a gentle water based cleanser. Some nights if my face is drier I'll skip the second cleanser and add my moisturizer.

    I use cleansing oil in liquid form for my sebaceous filaments, and also if I have any flaking skin, it removes that really easily. My skin isn't usually flaky, but it does struggle a whole lot with desquamation, like, shedding those dead skin cells away that shouldn't still be stuck around. Cleansing oil really helps to get in there and either dissolve that glue that holds it on, or at least get under it to remove it.
    I use the Softymo DEEP one, rather than the speedy one. Speedy rinses off the face easier, but I am always going in with cleanser/benzoyl peroxide wash afterwards anyway so it doesn't matter, and the deep/thicker oils are better at dealing with sebaceous filaments.

    I’ve also been interested in the Then I Met You cleansing balm. The high price scared me off though. But I’m taking notes while watching this video! 📝
    I’m using some facial oils before I use my regular cleansers. I’ve noticed that rosehip oil, safflower oil and oils with linoleic acid in their inci lists are very beneficial to the skin. And as you say about these cleansing balms, to let them sit and do some good for ten to fifteen minutes; that’s what I let my oils do (sometimes even longer, depending on how much time I’ve got). And for those kind of “oil masks”, I sometimes put a couple drops of sea buckthorn oil in the mix (The Ordinary has a very nice sea buckthorn oil and it’s very affordable too!).
    I sleep with some castor oil and/or rosehip oil on my hands. I also got this “cuticle oil” from my local dollar store, it was sold at a price point equivalent to one dollar, and I just say
    WOW!! ✨😺✨ Seriously, it’s about 15ml’s of an oil with ingredients such as jojoba oil, argan oil, retinyl palmitate et cetera.. Yes 👏👏👏 I will definitely buy myself a few more vials of that oil the next time I’m there. I use it as an all round beauty oil.
    Thank you so much for this channel!🌸
    It’s very informative yet fun and I’ve learned so much from you and I’m so inspired. For me, skincare is therapy and it might have saved me years of therapy both in time and money. And it’s fun too 😺👏 Thanks!🙏 🙏 🙏

    Thank you for clarifying this issue. It confirms my thinking that, depending on ingredients, balms can be used for several purposes. It’s all about ingredients for me. Since I use a mineral tinted sunscreen every day, I use the Boscia cleansing oil in combination with the Grown Alchemist foaming cleanser, then I rinse well.

    Paula's Choice is a great cleansing balm. I use a bit of micellar water to start the eye make removal process. Then go in with the balm. It takes everything off including sunscreen. No need for a double cleanse. It's unscented and comes in a tube.
