You don't have to kill off Rocky to move on from the character. You can have him cameo for a scene or two, saying you're your own man now, it's your time. You don't need me, and show him retired and possibly with a love interest enjoying his remaining days. Calling, asking advice, happy with reconnecting with his son and family, that way giving Rocky a happy ending while moving on.
Agreed. That said, I hope they at least have something, and don't pull the WWF story writing technique of just allowing something to disappear with zero explanation or acknowledgement.
I thought Creed 2 set up Rocky’s exit. He is reconnecting with his son. Rocky even tells Adonis that this is his time now. Would it be nice to see a cameo of Stallone as Rocky, sure. But would Stallone accept that. In order for Adonis to become his own character is to stand with out Rocky, just as Rocky had to do without Mick.
I agree with Sly. There is way too much darkness in the world. I'm exhausted from constant murders mass shootings, drug abuse, political violence. He makes you feel like no matter what goes wrong you can overcome and succeed if you just put the effort in. But what exactly do you agree with? There were deaths in Rocky, traumatic events as well. Creed movies haven’t been “dark” to the point like you’re suggesting. I think the way they did Rocky in the end of CREED 2 was just fine, it was a respectful way to finish this lovable character that we all fell in love with back in 1976. The Rocky saga will always be in our hearts……now let Sly focus on a new character in his life & that’s the TULSA KING👍👍
I could live with that. I don't need a tragic cinematic version of Rocky's death. Creed 2 was a good and fitting goodbye. These films are called Creed and no longer Rocky. You can find that a pity or stop watching them. This is open to everyone.
It’s not a Rocky franchise without Rocky and without Stallone’s blessing. He may be a producer, but if he stepped back, there’s a reason. Rocky is his baby and shouldn’t continue without him.
Reason is…they screwed him out of his rights of the franchise AND took a different direction from what he would’ve done. They want to make it dark and probably political….rocky isn’t about that. He also wanted to pass his legacy to his kids and now he can’t so he is pissed
he sold the franchise years ago its not his baby hes a bitter old man trying to cling on to the past instead of supporting the next best actor and passing on his legacy
@@evildeed90s saying Stallone is just some old dude that’s bitter is a dumbass take. If you’re not willing to respect the past then tell Hollywood to create some original ideas. Stallone IS Rocky and Creed would be nothing without his foundation. That’s a fact. Why didn’t they just create a random black boxer movie? Why did they bring Stallone back and his character? Cause it was always his. He created the franchise, he starred in the franchise and he gave life to “Creed”. Thanks to Stallone’s creation…Michael B Jordan has a job and his own franchise. He did support him in that way by starring in these movies. He doesn’t have to support the direction it’s going or support the guy that screwed him in a contract Just because he’s old, doesn’t mean his kids are. They’re not gonna kill Rocky off screen. Literally in Creed II he passed the torch and also went to visit his son. I just think he might be done for now.
A theme of the Rocky franchise has always been the character as a underdog who perseveres. While I don't mind them bringing more characters into the franchise he is right in that the world has soo much darkness already. Rocky was one of those films where you had hope. I'm not sure its wise to tonally take it in that direction. I hope if there's future sequels we will see Rocky return. If they kill him off screen I might be done.
I am already done with it even the new trailer of creed 3 just sums it up for me. It's like i am just watching another boxing film other than a rocky film far as i am concern. It just looks and feels like there using the rocky brand name now and using the rocky success to make more money out of it. No sly in it well it's no rocky film you need him in it to make it work otherwise just make there own original boxing film without it connecting it with the rocky franchise. They wont and cant because it wont make money like the rocky films did and was the only boxing films that worked you won't be able to capture that every again and that's we have creed. It only worked with sly in it and i can see 3 being a flop or reviews will say its not the same without the big man being in it even though sly might be behind the camera it still wont work as the character is gone from the film and that way i am done with it and won't be watching it apart from the end fight just to compare it from the rocky films boxing scene when it come on youtube videos'.
You lost me when you said that it might be a good thing to go from sentimental to "complex and mature". Rocky has his entire life ripped away from him. His struggles in the ring reflect his own personal struggles and growth outside of it. He deals with the death and the loss of everyone that he loves at some point in the series, but he keeps going. He gets cancer, and keeps going. I can't fathom how anything can be more "mature and complex" than that. We need movies that give us hope, and Rocky has always done that, which is why it is so successful. Good luck to those making the new Creed that want to "take it in another direction", I don't see that working out well for them, especially without Stallone who is the best thing about the entire Creed franchise..
For real, when they said the series should become darker and more mature as if Rocky wasn’t from the slums getting by as an enforcer for a mafia loan shark. Like as if Rocky didn’t break away from that, pick himself and his family up outta the slums, made poor financial choices, lost everything a couple of times and kept his chin up while staying humble and putting his health on the line in order to provide for his family while seeing his mentor, both his best friends, and his wife all pass away before him yet he had struggled with health issues himself for most of the films from brain damage to cancer. “Dark and mature” my ass, he had personal grudges and beefs too the only difference is he isn’t going to fight someone else who ran from the same gangs and orphanages with beefs like “you a real pampered nigga now ain’t chu? Bitch ass soft nigga.” Like wow, so dark and mature, as if Rocky didn’t come from the streets and have people seek him out thinking he went soft/pampered or digging up personal grudges from the past…most the movies were exactly that. Let’s be honest, the real only difference is nobody called Rocky a nigga.
Stallone was involved with most of the writing and producing of the original Rocky films. There is no Rocky franchise without him. Creed will be something else from this point on. Good luck to them making it great without Sly. They better higher great directors and writers, and executives would have to keep their noses out of the production process and stick to the only thing they are good at. Signing checks.

Creed 3 was just as good as any other film in the Rocky universe. It was cool seeing Viktor Drago actually helping Adonis train and seeing they have no animosity between them. I'm expecting a Drago spinoff in the future.

I could never understand the mentality of not working with Stallone while he's still alive for a Rocky franchise movie. If he died or was unable to do it a cause could be made, but it's insane to do this while you still have him around. This movie is going to seriously be hurt without him. If he wasn't around they should have done Creed 4 in a new direction, but you can't go back now.

@@WaldoBagelTopper agreed! They have been screwing Sly over from the very beginning. The fact that he doesn’t own the rights to any of the Rocky/ creed universe is absolutely disgusting in my opinion. There wouldn’t be a Rocky, much less a creed or creeds son without Sly. Hopefully Sly gets his wish and those who he doesn’t respect aren’t involved in the next one and we can see a proper return/ send off for Rocko. Anything less than that, will be an utter disgrace. Much like how Dave chapel was screwed over by Comedy Central. Hopefully they make this right before Sly is gone. If anyone deserves this, it’s Sly. His story and the story of Rocky are a direct reflection of each other.
Creed 3 already surpassed all Rocky movies in its weekend opening. It is also the highest grossing opening for any sports movie domestically. The movie is called Creed, not Rocky. Stallone gave away his rights to the Rocky franchise years ago, and said he didn't want to be in Creed 3. So, who are y'all mad at again? 🤔
I agree Rocky is what makes the franchise but depending how Rocky not being there is explained they could bring the story full circle back to where it began . IF Rocky is not there because him and Adonis had a falling out with Rocky being done wrong or hurt causing Rocky's son to follow in his father's footsteps and wanting to fight Adonis to right the wrong . So with his father as his trainer and in his corner Rocky Jr squares off against Adonis in an epic finale battle . They could title it Rocky vs Creed .
Can’t work man, not with rocky balboa in continuity. Look i love rocky. Even 4 and 5 i love them. But creed 2 made a classy send off to the character. The best you could do is cameo or something where rocky is on the phone with creed with his grandson next to him or something. But creed is a father now and getting old, soon he will be the mentor for this to come full circle. Maybe after creed 4 he could be training rocky’s grandson, he was 7 or 8 in creed 2, creed 4 in 2026 maybe then “balboa” in 2030 with creed as mentor he would be 19 or 20. Comes back full circle and sort of pays the debt.
Absolutely not! If many disagree with the plot direction of Creed III, what you just suggested isTOTALLY off course! I fully agree with everyone that has mentioned that there should ALWAYS be at least a cameo of Rocky in every movie going forward in the franchise! Whether Rocky is visibly present on screen or not, the relationship between he and Adonis should remain solid, PERIOD! It was tested here and there in the first 2 films, and they/we got past it! I didn't know what to expect from Creed, but it was amazing. Then Creed II, I was like how can they top the first one? In my opinion they did. I haven't seen Creed III yet. I recently read some of the negative reviews. I started to get swayed and steer away from checking it out. Well, I just saw the trailer, and I already know I'm going to dig it. I really like the way the first 2 films intertwined Rocky's and Adonis' lives and relationship. In the trailer for Creed III I saw elements of Rocky 5... I'll just leave it at that for now. I'm gonna' check it out on Prime tonight, or tomorrow!
I enjoyed Creed III just like growing up I enjoyed 6 of the 7 Rocky movies. I never saw the Rocky when Apollo Creed died. When I first heard of Creed and heard Sylvester Stallone was in it I went to iTunes and bought both Creeds. I loved it! I loved how Rocky became a father figure for Adonis Johnson (Creed) and in the end of Creed II how Rocky became a Godfather to Adonis daughter and then he finally reconnected with his own son and finally met his grandson. There still is Creed saga in the making with or without Rocky because the movie is now focused on Apollo Creed’s son Adonis. Rocky may appear if there is a Creed IV because Apollo Creed’s wife died which I was truly disappointed that Rocky didn’t attend the funeral. Life goes on. Rocky is what in his 70’s. His name still is there. Who’s to say that in the near future that Rocky’s grandson and Adonis daughter won’t cross paths. Darkness is everywhere regardless. Even in the Rocky movies there was darkness. Well I’m loving the new direction and the fact my favorite childhood boxer was there for his friend and opponent son when time went on.
I heard that the original planned ending of "Rocky Balboa" was that Rocky would die in the ring from injuries sustained from his fight against Mason Dixon, but Sly changed the ending.
"Rocky already has an ending that fits perfect with his character." What I'm about to say I say as a ROCKY/Stallone fan: Yes, ROCKY BALBOA was the perfect place to end the series...but there was more $$ to be made. Stallone repeatedly wrote Rocky's death into numerous scripts, but, as producers told John G. Avildsen on ROCKY V, "Rocky doesn't die." Should it turn out the character dies offscreen in the ninth film of the series, Stallone must share in the blame, as he sold Rocky out to continue the franchise. Retaining producer credit on IX -- a film pursuing a direction he doesn't agree with -- makes that clear.
I admired Stallone and his exceptional work with the Rocky and Creed franchises, and I was skeptical of the new Creed movie. That being said, having watched Creed III, my apprehensions were unwarranted. Creed III was very well made and Michael B. Jordan is taking the franchise in a good direction. I look forward to the relationship between Adonis and Damian. Jonathan Majors was excellent, and I have the feeling that those two characters are going to forge a special friendships in the coming movies.
Great idea! also I would watch a prequel series about Rocky as a club fighter pre-Apollo, meeting Gazzo, Paulie and Adrian backstory, Apollo as a young fighter in LA...
Exactly. That was nothing if not a "hostile takeover" of the franchise by Winkler and Jordan. If they cement their victory over Stallone this way, it will be the most despicable thing ever in movie history. Even worse than what Disney did to the original STAR WARS characters.
@@stevemimsjr9027 I don't believe they will dare go that route. The wrath of the original ROCKY fans will sink the entire franchise. There will be riots yet unseen.
I don't see why Rocky can't continue as a trainer, it is what Mighty Mickey did after he got injured in the ring. Also, a prequel should be made to see how it all began.
There is no Rocky franchise without Stallone’s blessing. It’s that simple. Creed 1 and 2 were good because the story arch of Rocky turning into Mick was par for the course and tying it into training Apollo’s son was huge. Micheal B. Jordan was great in that universe. Out side of that, there is nothing left.
Rocky doesn't have to be killed off for them to move on from him and make Adonis the focus. Adonis IS Rocky's legacy. This franchise should always be about legacy while also being about PAYING IT FORWARD. In handing Adonis the reigns fully there is a unique opportunity to make the Rocky franchise a truly TRANSCENDENT film odyssey that moves forward continuously --GENERATIONALLY, constantly reinventing itself over time as the lead character gets older. It is my hope that when Micheal B. Jordan gets to be Sly Stallone's age, that the franchise evolves yet again from ROCKY to CREED...to perhaps a MANNY franchise and so on. When Creed becomes the mentor to the son of a former opponent... THAT'S WHEN ROCKY BALBOA BECOMES TRULY IMMORTAL... BECAUSE IT'LL PROVE THAT WHAT HE STARTED CAN TRULY BE PASSED ON FOREVER.💯
Rocky is what makes the movie. No Rocky is like a Nightmare on Elm Street movie without Freddie or a Chucky movie without chucky. Different genres but the same thing.
Rocky is the ultimate underdog. Nobody will come close to the passion and emotion like Rocky. Creed was over rated, and the fight scenes were crap. They never should have made the first one never mind the second and third. The only good thing about Creed is that Stallone was in it.
The only Respectful way Rocky Balboa could die in these films is if Sylvester Stallone chooses to be killed off, this specific plot twist should never be decided by these producers without Sly's input just out of respect, Rocky Balboa could decide to do his own TV spin-off maybe call it (Underdog) as a Retired Boxing Legend Gym Owner and Trainer with new characters, I would love to see that storyline develop in a series, Imagine seeing Rocky in Mickey's shoes in full detail training someone who is as big an underdog as he once was, It could be just 1 Season maybe 2 at most but the desire from the fans to see a series like that would be incredible, especially after Stallone just proved his weight worth in Gold in the Series The Tulsa King, He crushed that role as Dwight Manfredi, instant Legendary iconic character, Rocky Balboa, John Rambo, and now Dwight Manfredi
😂😂😂😂A Rocky movie without Rocky? Ok I know it’s called Creed, but let’s be serious for a minute here….Rocky is really the focal point of where it all began, to just wipe him from the story is kind of crazy….I’m not a Creed fan, I’m a Rocky Fan🤷🏻♂️
Back when they made the second Rocky his agents and lawyers should have negotiated something, even if it was only 1%, and then each sequel thereafter he should have worked another percentage point. The producers wouldn't have missed it, and Sly would at least feel appreciated.
Well, they have been killing off the original characters one by one, starting with Mickey, then Apollo, followed by Adrian and Paulie. No one left but Rocky himself.
And JJ Abrams blew up Vulcan. We all know Gene Roddenberry was rolling in his grave for that one. But they still went through it in that universe. Because they knew it would make for more press.
This is from 2021.>> In other words, there are plenty of ways for Rocky to return outside of Creed III, and Jordan is thrilled to see where his mentor pops up next. "Rocky will live on and do other things, and I'm sure Creed fans are going to support Rocky as much as possible and hopefully vice versa as well."
I believe that Rocky is the key 🔑 to the success of the franchise. Creed 3 might do well flying off the wings of the success of Creed 1&2. But, without Sly (Rocky) moving forward the series will die off!
I like to see Mason "The Line" Dickson as the next opponent Creed 4 basically with a now broke but still undefeated Dickson actually winning the first fight by getting inside of Adonis's head as he's still going through handling extramarital affairs rumors all while suspected his wife cheating with an slimy butt charismatic record producer, but he works his way back up after a couple fights instead going to an immediate rematch in which naturally he wins his titles back from Dickson after an embarrassed but still in great tip top shape Dickson takes the doctor's and walks out before the bell rings for the 12th round, post-fight press conference Dickson apologizes, Creed except, Adonis embraces wife and child, he wants to celebrate with her with a champagne toast but she the decline the champagne, he is curious as to why, she then take his hand and places it on her stomach, they both smell, limousine pulls off as music hits, Credits.
this video did not have sly stone explain his side of the story. they need to change the title to the narrator talking about creed 3 we won't let sly stone explain his side.
I watched every Rocky movie in the movie theater at least 5 times in the theater . I based my whole life to fight like Rocky’s heart . I believe in “1 more round and I didn’t hear no bell “ once Adrian died it was over for me . Rocky hitting on the girl who called him a “creepoe” didn’t sit well with me . I didn’t care for creed either . Now without him I definitely don’t like itv
So what I’m getting from this is Stallone wanted to veer away from this constant narrative in our media of racism and wanted to stick to the constant passion and positivity of rocky. Good for Stallone I knew he was a good egg
Always risky when you sell your IP, and Stallone was paid handsomely for his gamble to keep it after Rocky one. But what goes around comes around -- Carl Weathers was also bitter for being killed off. At this point though, I think the Dragos' storyline is more interesting.
The character “Creed” was created by Stallone. The only one it can be “personal” to is Stallone. I don’t think many people want to see these movies if it doesn’t star Rocky but I guess we shall see. I personally love the Creed series but without Stallone writing it and without Coogler directing not so sure it’s going to be worth a watch. At least in theaters.
I'm sorry, but I scoff at the idea that Creed III can be of the 'Rocky franchise' with no Rocky in it. They're taking one hell of a gamble that people are going to care one quarter as much about Adonis Creed's character and journey as they took about Rocky. I don't want anyone to have their eye wiped, but I know the absence of Rocky repels me and a lot of others.
You think these people give a single shit about killing a legacy? Absolutely not. They have brought back everything you love to make gay and anti-white versions of it. They destroy movies and intellectual properties. Its bleeding over into video games. Music. Culture. Im only going to do what I can do to not buy into this nonsense. And its exactly just that- not buy into it. I'm not paying for the movie ticket. I'm not paying for the blu ray or digital download. I'm not paying for the digital rental. That's all.
I made it halfway through this video which was about the most difficult thing I’ve ever tried to listen to. Halfway through and pretty much nothing is been said.
If they think killing Rocky is better to move the franchise forward, they must be on drugs …. You kill his character (even off screen) and the franchise dies….just have him cameo a couple times…like Stan Lee did in the marvel movies
I actually enjoyed Creed 3. Some of its strengths was that Rocky wasnt in it. I would have still liked to see him atleast in a cameo role if not a smaller role. The dark themes really werent that dark or out of the possibility for a person. And by the end i thought it was uplifting and a nice moment. Also creed was a more darker series from the beginning. Rocky was there to guide him through that darkness
Na I think Rocky not being is creed is good. It's realistic right ... He's old now, he's probably with his son still... chilling with his grandson Logan. Creed lll looks alright 👍🏻💯
Likley that alot of people won't watch a Rocky movie without Rocky. Me included.. Even though the movies aren't called Rocky they are still Rocky movies..
I figured Rocky’s death would be inevitable, but that maybe they’d have his death take place in Creed IV. Like, give him an emotional and meaningful send off. If he’s just dead at the beginning of this movie, yeah, honestly I think that’s kinda disrespectful to the franchise that birthed Adonis seven movies in. Even Apollo made it four movies and had an onscreen death. Hell, his death motivated an entire chapter of the Rocky franchise. I dunno…
Stallone said he didn't leave the franchise just was not part of this movie due to it had a darker nature than previous Rocky and Creed movies. Either way Rocky really do not have a huge part of this story it more of a CREED family story that Rocky is now the trainer of Creed's son. Rocky should have made it so that he is the trainer of his own son and continue the Rocky family name, in a new movie franchise for ROCKY. But this is more of a CREED family story.
Rocky character is connected to Creed only a small amount. For Example STAR WARS is a FRANCHISE due to it created a UNIVERSE around the brand. Stallone should have done the same, with CREED, Rocky family line, Drago family line, Clubber Lang history, and etc and made a Rocky Universe now. It would made more money and sense. Image Prequels to Clubber Lang story, or Drago story and continue stories regarding these legends character he create past, present and future.
Sly Stallone is what makes the Rocky franchise what it really is

It’s not a Rocky franchise without Rocky and without Stallone’s blessing. He may be a producer, but if he stepped back, there’s a reason. Rocky is his baby and shouldn’t continue without him.
Reason is…they screwed him out of his rights of the franchise AND took a different direction from what he would’ve done. They want to make it dark and probably political….rocky isn’t about that.
He also wanted to pass his legacy to his kids and now he can’t so he is pissed

Stallone IS Rocky and Creed would be nothing without his foundation. That’s a fact. Why didn’t they just create a random black boxer movie? Why did they bring Stallone back and his character? Cause it was always his. He created the franchise, he starred in the franchise and he gave life to “Creed”. Thanks to Stallone’s creation…Michael B Jordan has a job and his own franchise. He did support him in that way by starring in these movies. He doesn’t have to support the direction it’s going or support the guy that screwed him in a contract

Rocky is my favorite movie. I saw it in the theater in1976. I was 8 years old. Grew up following the Italian Stallion! Stallone is Rocky!
ALWAYS AND FOREVER ❤
No rocky! This is a joke right?? Huge mistake....

If Stallone’s not in it I’m not paying to see it.
I'm at true Rocky fan and no one will do it's justice without Sylvester Stallone.
Rocky made me grow as a man.
I like the arch on Adonis’ story. It’s not dark. It’s real life and. Ryan Coogler is going bring that together real
It is too dark. No humor. Unlike the early Rocky movies. It felt like it can switch to different genres
Stallone could do a spin-off on Mickeys fighting days or something similar too. Granted it would take place in the 1920s and 1930s
Great idea! also I would watch a prequel series about Rocky as a club fighter pre-Apollo, meeting Gazzo, Paulie and Adrian backstory, Apollo as a young fighter in LA...
If they kill Rocky off it's out of spite and I will walk out .
Exactly. That was nothing if not a "hostile takeover" of the franchise by Winkler and Jordan. If they cement their victory over Stallone this way, it will be the most despicable thing ever in movie history. Even worse than what Disney did to the original STAR WARS characters.
It’s not even a Rocky movie. But yea, BYE!
If they kill off Rocky I'm done. I don't want any part of it, none of it.
Plainly it isn’t.
With out Sly it will not be as successful as it could be with Sly / Rocky all the way
I agree with you on this one. I've thought about it, if they kill of Rocky I'm done.
Rocky is what makes the movie. No Rocky is like a Nightmare on Elm Street movie without Freddie or a Chucky movie without chucky. Different genres but the same thing.
There can be only one... Rocky for ever
Rocky is the ultimate underdog. Nobody will come close to the passion and emotion like Rocky. Creed was over rated, and the fight scenes were crap. They never should have made the first one never mind the second and third. The only good thing about Creed is that Stallone was in it.
If there's no Sly.. there's no creed no Drago.. Sly is Rocky like Sly is Rambo
Rocky should have been a part of it. All credits to Michale B Jordan but without Stalone, it's not the same.
Facts right there. A great idea to see the story line develop into a series
No Creed without Stallone
😂😂😂😂A Rocky movie without Rocky? Ok I know it’s called Creed, but let’s be serious for a minute here….Rocky is really the focal point of where it all began, to just wipe him from the story is kind of crazy….I’m not a Creed fan, I’m a Rocky Fan🤷🏻♂️
Without Stallone, it will be a box office bomb.
Technically, Roddenberry was cremated, and his ashes were shot into space, but your point still stands.
He also wanted to blow up Coruscant in Star Wars 7. One trick pony of mystery boxes.
I cant watch this without Stallone
The only reason Stallone is credited as a producer is because it uses characters that Stallone created.
No Rocky, no Creed. I willNOT be seeing this film without Rocky.

I'm sorry, but I scoff at the idea that Creed III can be of the 'Rocky franchise' with no Rocky in it.
