    Dame just became my favourite character in this movie from the moment he spoke his first line. What great acting! He immediately got all my sympathies as a movie character. The only thing I think the film failed on was making me feel more empathy with Damien. Since reviewers and critics were saying that you don’t know who to root for in the end, I was hoping to really feel empathy and sympathy with Damien to the point that I’d root for him but I didn’t. And it’s because I think that wasn’t fully developed. I’ll explain why:
    1) they could’ve read us one of Damien’s letters to Donnie, letting us know how he was alone, struggling and really needed him to be there for him in spirit, comfort, and plainly just having a real friend to talk to and help you through this tough moment. As the letters go by and Donnie never answers he grows angry and resentful. Showing the transition from friend to enemy. That was a missed opportunity.
    2) they could’ve shown a scene or two of Damien in prison and just show us how difficult he had it there, if he was abused, beaten up or hell even raped. Something to show us that he was in fact alone and it wasn’t easy for him. Then maybe show us how he kept himself in shape in prison, if he fought in prison fights and learned how to fight dirty. How he met his friends there and then one of them does him that favor (break Dragos hand so he could have the title shot)
    3) there’s a scene in the trailer where Creed visits the prison yet it’s not there in the film, so hopefully it shows up on dvd as a deleted scene. But that could add to what Damien had to go through alone.
    All this would’ve helped to give Damien more background and make us feel more empathy as to why his actions are justified. Because he really felt like Donnie abandoned him and that led to hate, jealousy and resentment

      @brandonsantiago2298 ปีที่แล้ว +7

They just show the first 2 rounds and then enter a metaphor stage of it’s just the 2 of them in there and all of a sudden it’s the 12th round. I think the last fight needed to be longer and we needed to see how truly great Damien was. Other than that I think the film was great. Have seen it twice now and I may see it a third.
      P.S. the intro monologue he makes in the trailer is not in the movie either nor the clips shown in the trailer. So the movie is missing a couple of scenes that I had hoped to see in the theater. There’s no mention of Rocky or anything.

    Adonis Creed is clearly inspired by Oscar Dela Hoya. Dela Hoya became a successful multiple weight class champion and producer. In the movie, Adonis taps Viktor Drago to help him prepare for his fight with Damien. When preparing for Floyd Mayweather, Oscar tapped Shane Moseley as his sparring partner. Shane beat Oscar twice, and he realized that to prepare for an undefeated P4P king Floyd, he needed someone who knew his weaknesses the most
    Damien has several inspirations, but the one I can think comes close is Bernard Hopkins. Bernard was also an Ex-con. The older Bernard got, the dirtier he fought. Not to take anything away from Bernard, as he took on younger opposition even in his 40s, but if you watched those fight, he always used dirty tactics

    I highly believe his mother raised him to forget where he came from. This was all HER fault. He was a troubled, scared minor at the time. What she viewed as protection, made him abandoned Dame, when he had his back even when he was raised in a toxic home with jealous siblings who mistreated him. Even at the end of the movie, Donnie still didn’t apologies, not thanksgiving him for protecting him, and risking his life and future just for him to be able to escape while he got arrested. Dame deserved better.

    This movie had me on Dame's side until he used his sketchy ways to trick Adonis - at that point he was written 180 - until the last couple of scenes. Like Dame did nothing wrong all he did was protect Adonis - like Adonis mightve gotten killed had Dame not intervened by threatening everyone by waving the gun around. Also Dame went into jail for a REALLY LONG TIME for just threatening with a gun (even if it was unregistered/without license). Adonis forgot about him and let him suffer alone. His mom and Adonis trainer all assumed the worst about Dame - but he literally did nothing wrong smh. It had to be contrived for the narrative but I'm glad that the brotherhood got reestablished by the end.

    Dude its not that deep. Syvelster Stallone created Appollo creed and he didnt know decades later that there was gonna be a Creed movie. He didnt know he had to give insight and details bout his private family life. Stallone wrote the screenplay and didnt want or have time to go in depth about Apollos family. He didnt know decades later there was going to have to explain where Appollo's children are. You know why? Because in reality The Creed spinoff was never meant to happen. But it did Thank Ryan Coogler for that. Creeds personal life is brief and thats the way Sylvester wrote his character. WHY? because the movie is all about Rocky. All we knew about Apollo was he was from Los Angeles, he was a world champion, he had a wife and two kids and he was arrogant person. I dont recognize Creed as a part of the Rocky franchise. For me the Rocky saga ended at 4, not 5. There was no need for 5.
