My favorite CAS. I earned the F-89s for free with the help of a friend ^♥^ Each of the M24A1 20mm cannons in-game have a fire rate of 1,500 rpm. Similar to the lowest for the GAU-8 Avenger, 1,800 rpm. Multiplied by 6 for the 20mms that is 9,000 rpm. The M61s maximum fire rate (that the GAU-8 is wrongly stated as being scaled up from) is 6,000 rpm. The GAU-8 comes out to 4,200 rpm BUT it has, since 1980, been limited to 3,900 rpm for ammunition conservation, barrel life, spray time, and heat.
The ROF in game for the M24 is wrong IIRC it should be ~750 RPM from the info I can find so the combined ROF of 3000 for all 6 and with a projectile mass of 130g for the AP-T round so if it could fire for a full minute it could unload 390kg if projectiles into a target. The Gau -8 uses a mix of one part HEI rounds at 378 grams each and four parts AP-I at 395g each, a full minute of fire would see 1527kg of projectiles go down range which is fucking insane!
I worked these planes in the 80s. 1984-1988. Some of them were actually kind of new back then. I have plenty of not so fond memories of removing and installing the GAU 8 .I simply don't recall us lowering the high to 3,900 rpm. Maybe they did it in shop. I don't recall doing it on the flight line. Not that it really mattered. May be they lowered it after I left. I was taught high rate was 4,200 and low was 2,100. I still have my Tech school paper work. There is a rounds limiter that is set to limit the number of rounds the gun can fire per trigger depression. That is what controls barrel wear. More than that it controls Recoil. Planes need to move forward through the air so their wings to create lift. Barrels were one of the easier things to replace. They were replaced on a regularly based on the amount of ammo through the system as I recall. Its been a long time. Fun fact if all the ammo is removed from the gun system including spent brass (All spent brass is retained in the system) You have to install ballast plates in the nose to make up for the missing weight or the plane will be tail heavy. We also did the TCTO to make the planes AIM9 capable. Before I worked on a Maint. Crew I worked on a load crew. As for the ammo. Combat mix was 1 API (Black with red) followed by 5 HEI(Yellow with red). I suppose that could easily change, But all that I was ever witness to there was always more Yellow rounds than Black going through the Dragon from the Cans.

So the GAU-8 has a fire rate of 4200 rpm and the F89-B's 6 M24A1 cannons has a fire rate of 9000 rpm. The GAU-8 has a one-second burst mass of 48.3 kg/s and the 6 M24A1 cannons has a one-second burst mass of 15.15 kg/s. It's a pretty big difference. Currently in the game, the American Phantoms has the highest rate of fire of 18000 rpm with a burst mass of 39.51 kg/s but it's 5th cartridge is a HEF-I shell with a penetration of 3mm which isnt enough to penetrate a car. Edit: The GAU-8 has a variable fire rate (3900-4200) and the Phantoms need 3 SUU-23 gun pods (20mm M61 cannons) to obtain that incredible fire rate.
You need almost three F-89B planes to match the GAU-8. So, The Kg/s on the stat card for the f-89d is wrong. The m24 canon fired at about 750 rounds per minute. the projectile of the 20x110mm cartridge weighs 1700 grains (110.1581 grams). 750 rounds per minute * 110.1581 is 1.376 Kg/s. That is for just one gun so the total Kg/s of projectile mass is 8.261 Kg/s. slightly more than half of what the stat card says. a10/GAU8: 3900 rpm times 393 gram projectile weight divided by 60 to get mass per second. Gives you 23.595 Kg/s from the GAU-8. *** side note, the S.O.8000 narwhal has 6 20mm mg151 canons and the Warthunder stat card for the 1 second burst mass, is very close. they list 8.27Kg/s*** ((The mg151 has an almost identical firerate and projectile mass when compared to the M24 aircraft canon)) * m24a1 data sourced from wikipedia (HS.404 page (its the same gun)) * gau8 firerate data sourced from wikipedia * 20x110mm (for the m24a1) data sourced from wikipedia page titled (20×110mm USN) * 30x173mm (GAU8 ammo) from (gd-ots (dootcom) /munitions/medium-caliber-ammunition/30mm-gau-8a/) and gd-ots (dootcom) /wp-content/uploads/2017/11/30x173mm-Ammunition-Suite-MK44-Cannon-Version-3.pdf **gd-ots is general dynamics. Being in a military family and loving weaponry, I have done a little research for you Phlydaily. The Gau-8 Avenger cannon currently has a fire rate of 3,900 rounds per minute while the 20mm M24A1 has 600-700 rpm. By the F89B having 6 of these M24A1 cannons, it has roughly 3,600-4,200 rpm. With this info your F89B does have a higher rate of fire then a A-10's current GAU-8. The reason why i do mention current GAU-8 is due to the GAU-8 rate of fire was originally selectable with 2,100 rpm in the low setting, or 4,200 rpm in the high setting. This rate was later changed to a fixed rate of 3,900 rpm. At this speed it would take 18 seconds of sustained fire to empty the magazine. By comparing the old rate to your F89B's, your F89B has the same fire rate as the original GAU-8.
Ammo Maths for you PhlyDaily: GAU-8 avenger fire rate actually varies. In the first second of the trigger pull, the gun spits out 45 rounds, increasing it's fire rate (as the hydraulics speed up the barrel rotation) up about 70 rounds per second. At the higher end of the math this comes down to 4,200 rpm. Each API round contains approximately 299.4 grams of extruding DU. The HS.404 spits out at most 750 rpm weighing 130 grams per round. In the final math, the six HS.404 on F-89B 130*750*6 = 585,000 grams or 1289.70423 pounds of goodies per minute (9,750 grams per second) And the GAU-8 on the A-10C 4200*299.4 = 1,257,480 grams or insane 2772.3 pounds of DU per minute (20,958 grams per second). A-10C FTW (even though it fires 300 rpm less than the F-89B).

The GAU-8/A has a fixed fire rate of 3,900rpm, while 6x M24 cannon have a collective fire rate of 3,600 - 4,200rpm. While the kg/s is obviously higher for a 30mm platform, the fire rate could be higher with the M24A1 cannons.
According to Wikipedia, the M24 cannons, which are the Air Force's designation for the AN/M3 cannons used on the Bearcats and other Navy fighters/Attackers has a fire rate between 600-700 rounds per minute. Multiply that by six, and you have between 3600-4200 rounds per minute. The GAU-8 Avenger on the A-10 has a maximum fire rate of 3900-4200 rounds per minute depending on the source. The collective rate of fire from the F-89B is very similar, but the A-10 has a much higher mass per second output just due to the sheer size of the projectiles. 25.41 Kg/s for the GAU-8 vs the 15.15 Kg/s of the M24s.

I couldn't find the AFTO for the Gau-8 because it is still probably classified information, my security clearance is expired and I have no real need to know so there's that. The General Dynamics Ordinance and Tactical Systems site lists the rate of fire of up to 4,200 rds per minute just not for the A-10 most likely that rate of fire would be for the Goalkeeper CIWS.
Quick math on the dakka of the F-89B versus the GAU-8: M24A1: assuming the AP belts in the F-89 are using the 20mm Armor Piercing Tracer - M95 (T9E5) rounds, projectile weight per round will be .13 kg, or 130g. Taking roughly 12 seconds to deplete a full ammunition load in game (estimated: the gun overheats slightly before you can expend all 1200 rounds, leaving ~140-150 rounds). With those calculations, we have 100 rounds per second, and if each projectile is 130g, that makes 13kg of projectiles being fired every second. GAU-8: given that HE rounds for the GAU-8 weigh 378g and AP rounds weigh 395g, and assuming that GAU-8 belts are a 50-50 split of both, I'm going to assume for simplicity an average weight of 386.5g per projectile. Wikipedia lists a standard rounds per minute of 3900 for the GAU-8. With those calculations, we have the GAU-8 firing 65 rounds per second. Assuming the average mass of each projectile is the above 386.5g, that gives the GAU-8 25.123kg of projectiles being fired every second. That makes the answer to your question a strong no based on very simple math using projectile mass rather than looking at muzzle velocity/recoil force or anything like that. I'm sure by imparted energy the difference is even more stark, given that the GAU-8 has a muzzle velocity of 1010m/s while the M24 has a muzzle velocity of 840-880m/s
Requested math as I'm a nerd. The M24, which is the modified American variant of the Hispano-Suiza HS 404 has an optimal rate of fire of 850 rpm. Its AP-T rounds have a mass of.168 kg. So with all 6 of it's cannons, the mass per second is. 14.28 kg/s The A10 is a beast. At a max rate of fire of 3900 rpm and each AP round of it's own weighing .395 kg, the GAU/8 Avenger's mass per second comes out to 25.675 kg/s. Nearly double the F89's. Both cannons have variable rates of fire, the A10 being able to choose its own which is pretty neat, but the much larger sized round of the GAU/8 will likely win every time. The 6 Hispanos do have a higher rate of fire together though, coming out to 5,100 rpm total, which is pretty neat. Though it's also like saying a pump action shotgun has a higher rate of fire than a semi-automatic just because a lot of pellets come out at once.
Quick maths for PHLY So, M24 cannon had a max 850 shots per minute fire rate. Counting 6 of them it would be 5100 rounds per minute. Single projectile weighted 130 grams, or whole round 257 grams. That gives total of 11 050 grams/second which is 11,05 kg/sec burst mass or counting whole rounds it goes up to 21,854 kg/sec. The GAU8 has a fire rite set typically to 3,900 rounds per minute (but it can be higher) and fires powerful projectiles weighting 395 grams. This gives a total 25,675 kg/sec burst mass. This means that F-89B weapon system gives more than 2 times less burst potential than the GAU8, counting only projectiles, not entire rounds, but it fires ~1000 rounds per minute more.
Okay so the A10's gun is the GAU-8 Avenger, this gun has a fire rate of 3,900 rpm (rounds per minute); The m24a1 20mm cannon (what's on the F84B) has a fire rate of 700 rpm, but that's only 1 gun and since of the F84B there are 6 we multiply that by 6 which is 4,200 rpm; This concludes that the F84B has a higher fire rate than the A10, but if the A10 had more guns, well 6 GAU-8 Avengers it would fuck more shit up.
The A-10's GAU-8 fires 3900rpm, the average weight of a round for its standard ammo is 392g, which comes out to 1529kg/min of ammo. WT has the fire rate of the F-89B listed at 1500rpm per gun, which means 9000rpm in total, with a projectile weight (not exact round so +/- a couple grams) of 130g which equates to 1170kg/min of ammo. So the F-89B does fire faster but fires less mass/minute in ammo.
Funny story, I learned today that star Stuka pilot and fighter ace Hans Rudel was apparently consulted during the initial design process of what would eventually become the A-10. Apparently his tank-busting Ju-87 G antics caught the eye of some discerning aircraft designers, and his input and accounts led to what could be considered the modern US equivalent. To answer your question on the guns on F-89B vs the A-10 series..... It's kind of a toss up; the F-89B has a rate of fire of 6x1,500 or 9,000 Rounds Per Minute, while the GAU-8 is only 3,900 RPM. The rounds used by the GAU-8 weigh 14oz each, while the 20mm round weighs 4.6oz (these are both IRL numbers, I can't find anything regarding mass in game). This works out to 40,500 oz per minute for the F89B, but 56,160 OPM for the GAU-8. Winner: GAU-8 Avenger.....
Depending on what settings you have the Gau 8 (on it's fastest rpm it would spit out 3900 rounds per minute), it will have the exact same rate of fire as 6 x M24's (3900 rounds per minute). The Gau does A LOT of damage to a concentrated are, hence why it can take on more heavily armored targets. Now if you have 6×M24's all throwing 20mm rounds at 600-800 rpm, thats a large are of damage. But the Gau does have a larger cartridge, and does way more damage per round then the M24.

About that comparison between the F-89B and the A-10 in terms of main guns: tl;dr: Avenger stronk. F-89 has higher round/min (4500 to the A-10's 3900), but delivers about a third of the projectile mass (348 lbs to the A-10's 1171.41 lbs). In terms of delivery rate, the F-89 delivers just under 40% of the projectile mass in the same space of time (21.75 lbs/sec to 55.78 lbs/second). Kind of expected, given that the A-10 carries more rounds, and has a larger caliber gun. What should stand out is the rate of fire, since the A-10 only has the one Avenger. F-89 has six M24's. FIRE RATE The F-89B was equipped with six 20mm M24 cannons. Assuming that the M24 is comparable to the British Hispano Mk.V, that gives 750 rounds per minute, per gun, for a total of 4500 rounds per minute. With 200 rounds per gun, you could sustain fire for 16 seconds before running dry. The A-10's GAU-8 Avenger was once capable of 4200 rounds/min in its high setting, but it has since been fixed to 3900 rounds/min. I will be going off this fixed rate of fire. The A-10 can haul 1350 rounds of ammunition around, which gives about 21 seconds of sustained fire. ORDINANCE DELIVERY RATE (by mass) The M24's AP tracer rounds (T9E5) have a projectile mass of 0.29 lbs, or 0.13 kg. Emptying a full ammo store of only AP tracer, the F-89B would be capable of delivering 348 lbs (156 kg) of projectile mass. The delivery rate would be 21.75 lbs/second (348/16) or 9.75 kg/second (156/16). The GAU-8's AP incendiary rounds of a projectile mass of 14 ounces, or 0.395 kg. While standard anti-armor belts also include HEI rounds, which are slightly lighter at 13.3 ounces (0.378 kg), the projectile mass for each Avenger round is still around triple that of the M24's rounds. If a standard anti-armor belt is 5 API - 1 HEI, then the A-10 would deliver about 1171.41 lbs (529.425 kg) of projectile mass by emptying its entire drum. The delivery rate would be about 55.78 lbs/second (1171.41/21) or 25.21 kg/second (529.425/21). disclaimer: I wasn't super precise with keeping decimal places around with the avenger, so the numbers might be slightly different from what you get when you crunch the numbers yourself.
According to the Warthunder Wiki the F-89B has a burst mass of 15.15kg/s, the Gau 8 manages to fire 70 rounds a second/4200 rounds per minute, let's say it fires 50/50 belts of PGU-14/B armor piercing incendiary (395g projectile weight) and PGU-13/B high explosive incendiary (378g projectile weight), that would be equal to (35x 395g + 35x378g) ~27kg fired per second ( 27kg 55g), even with just 50 rounds per second it would still fire off ~19.5kg per second (19kg and 325g). So yeah, the F-89B is not quite there.

F-89B: 6xM24A1 20mm's @ 700 rpm/gun = 4,200 rpm total = 70 rounds per second --> 1 20mm HEI projectile = 130 grams * 70 rps = [9,100 grams per second] A-10: 1xGAU-8 30mm @ variable RPM, most likely 3,900 rpm = 65 rounds per second --> 1 30mm HEDP projectile = 229 grams * 65 rps = [14,885 grams per second] Don't know if anyone has done this yet but I didn't see it, but the A-10 pretty handily beats the F-89B in kilos of projectile per second by about 64%. Research was done with Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt.
The six m24a1 20 mm each fire at 700 rpm, equaling 4200 rpm for all six. the GAU 8 fires at 3900 rpm. the GAU is slightly slower but the 30 mm deleted uranium rounds weigh 13 oz almost 4 times heavier than a 20 mm. leaving the GAU with a much higher mass output at a staggering 54 lb per second, compared to the 6 20's 14 lbs per second. the GAU is BIIGGG
In tank Rb killing T-54s and so would be a little bit tricky, but other than the egg shape touret basically nothing can get away. I even killed Maus in some rare cases. And it is deadly when killing planes too. Those 20mils just fly like the M3 50cals. Fast and accurate with almost no drop. One thing need to keep in mind though is this plane like to rip at high speed. Make sure to adjust the throttle and air brake in time. --A Professional F-89B Player

So the GAU-8 has a fire rate of 4200 rpm and the F89-B's 6 M24A1 cannons has a fire rate of 9000 rpm. The GAU-8 has a one-second burst mass of 48.3 kg/s and the 6 M24A1 cannons has a one-second burst mass of 15.15 kg/s. It's a pretty big difference. Currently in the game, the American Phantoms has the highest rate of fire of 18000 rpm with a burst mass of 39.51 kg/s but it's 5th cartridge is a HEF-I shell with a penetration of 3mm which isnt enough to penetrate a car.
Edit: The GAU-8 has a variable fire rate (3900-4200) and the Phantoms need 3 SUU-23 gun pods (20mm M61 cannons) to obtain that incredible fire rate.

So, The Kg/s on the stat card for the f-89d is wrong. The m24 canon
fired at about 750 rounds per minute. the projectile of the 20x110mm
cartridge weighs 1700 grains (110.1581 grams).
750 rounds per minute * 110.1581 is 1.376 Kg/s. That is for just one gun
so the total Kg/s of projectile mass is 8.261 Kg/s. slightly more than
half of what the stat card says.
a10/GAU8: 3900 rpm times 393 gram projectile weight divided by 60 to get
mass per second. Gives you 23.595 Kg/s from the GAU-8.

Shouldn’t the F-89 M24’s be 4350x6
Being in a military family and loving weaponry, I have done a little research for you Phlydaily. The Gau-8 Avenger cannon currently has a fire rate of 3,900 rounds per minute while the 20mm M24A1 has 600-700 rpm. By the F89B having 6 of these M24A1 cannons, it has roughly 3,600-4,200 rpm. With this info your F89B does have a higher rate of fire then a A-10's current GAU-8. The reason why i do mention current GAU-8 is due to the GAU-8 rate of fire was originally selectable with 2,100 rpm in the low setting, or 4,200 rpm in the high setting. This rate was later changed to a fixed rate of 3,900 rpm. At this speed it would take 18 seconds of sustained fire to empty the magazine. By comparing the old rate to your F89B's, your F89B has the same fire rate as the original GAU-8.

GAU-8 avenger fire rate actually varies. In the first second of the trigger pull, the gun spits out 45 rounds, increasing it's fire rate (as the hydraulics speed up the barrel rotation) up about 70 rounds per second. At the higher end of the math this comes down to 4,200 rpm. Each API round contains approximately 299.4 grams of extruding DU.
The HS.404 spits out at most 750 rpm weighing 130 grams per round.
In the final math, the six HS.404 on F-89B 130*750*6 = 585,000 grams or 1289.70423 pounds of goodies per minute (9,750 grams per second)
And the GAU-8 on the A-10C 4200*299.4 = 1,257,480 grams or insane 2772.3 pounds of DU per minute (20,958 grams per second).
A-10C FTW (even though it fires 300 rpm less than the F-89B).

The GAU-8/A has a fixed fire rate of 3,900rpm, while 6x M24 cannon have a collective fire rate of 3,600 - 4,200rpm. While the kg/s is obviously higher for a 30mm platform, the fire rate could be higher with the M24A1 cannons.
According to Wikipedia, the M24 cannons, which are the Air Force's designation for the AN/M3 cannons used on the Bearcats and other Navy fighters/Attackers has a fire rate between 600-700 rounds per minute. Multiply that by six, and you have between 3600-4200 rounds per minute. The GAU-8 Avenger on the A-10 has a maximum fire rate of 3900-4200 rounds per minute depending on the source. The collective rate of fire from the F-89B is very similar, but the A-10 has a much higher mass per second output just due to the sheer size of the projectiles. 25.41 Kg/s for the GAU-8 vs the 15.15 Kg/s of the M24s.

The Avenger's rate of fire was originally selectable, 2,100 rounds per minute (rpm) in the low setting, or 4,200 rpm in the high setting.[1] This rate was later changed to a fixed rate of 3,900 rpm. According to some sources, the GAU-8 fires 1,800 rounds per minute, with the higher 4200 rd/min rate having been deleted in the 1980s. However, the A-10 can only fire in high rate, which is 3900 rounds per minute. Low rate went out with the use of the batelle gas diverting device, and although the A-10 no longer uses the batelle device, the limit on high rate only has remained, since it made no tactical sense to fire in low rate and have to spend that much more time on final to get the same number of rounds on target.
By comparison the Rate of fire for the M24A1 according to the Air Force TO 39A-5B A-4 was 750-800 rds per minute. I couldn't find the AFTO for the Gau-8 because it is still probably classified information, my security clearance is expired and I have no real need to know so there's that. The General Dynamics Ordinance and Tactical Systems site lists the rate of fire of up to 4,200 rds per minute just not for the A-10 most likely that rate of fire would be for the Goalkeeper CIWS.

Quick math on the dakka of the F-89B versus the GAU-8:
M24A1: assuming the AP belts in the F-89 are using the 20mm Armor Piercing Tracer - M95 (T9E5) rounds, projectile weight per round will be .13 kg, or 130g. Taking roughly 12 seconds to deplete a full ammunition load in game (estimated: the gun overheats slightly before you can expend all 1200 rounds, leaving ~140-150 rounds).
With those calculations, we have 100 rounds per second, and if each projectile is 130g, that makes 13kg of projectiles being fired every second.
GAU-8: given that HE rounds for the GAU-8 weigh 378g and AP rounds weigh 395g, and assuming that GAU-8 belts are a 50-50 split of both, I'm going to assume for simplicity an average weight of 386.5g per projectile. Wikipedia lists a standard rounds per minute of 3900 for the GAU-8.
With those calculations, we have the GAU-8 firing 65 rounds per second. Assuming the average mass of each projectile is the above 386.5g, that gives the GAU-8 25.123kg of projectiles being fired every second.
That makes the answer to your question a strong no based on very simple math using projectile mass rather than looking at muzzle velocity/recoil force or anything like that. I'm sure by imparted energy the difference is even more stark, given that the GAU-8 has a muzzle velocity of 1010m/s while the M24 has a muzzle velocity of 840-880m/s

The M24, which is the modified American variant of the Hispano-Suiza HS 404 has an optimal rate of fire of 850 rpm. Its AP-T rounds have a mass of.168 kg. So with all 6 of it's cannons, the mass per second is. 14.28 kg/s
The A10 is a beast. At a max rate of fire of 3900 rpm and each AP round of it's own weighing .395 kg, the GAU/8 Avenger's mass per second comes out to 25.675 kg/s. Nearly double the F89's. Both cannons have variable rates of fire, the A10 being able to choose its own which is pretty neat, but the much larger sized round of the GAU/8 will likely win every time.
The 6 Hispanos do have a higher rate of fire together though, coming out to 5,100 rpm total, which is pretty neat. Though it's also like saying a pump action shotgun has a higher rate of fire than a semi-automatic just because a lot of pellets come out at once.

So, M24 cannon had a max 850 shots per minute fire rate. Counting 6 of them it would be 5100 rounds per minute. Single projectile weighted 130 grams, or whole round 257 grams. That gives total of 11 050 grams/second which is 11,05 kg/sec burst mass or counting whole rounds it goes up to 21,854 kg/sec.
The GAU8 has a fire rite set typically to 3,900 rounds per minute (but it can be higher) and fires powerful projectiles weighting 395 grams. This gives a total 25,675 kg/sec burst mass.
This means that F-89B weapon system gives more than 2 times less burst potential than the GAU8, counting only projectiles, not entire rounds, but it fires ~1000 rounds per minute more.

Okay so the A10's gun is the GAU-8 Avenger, this gun has a fire rate of 3,900 rpm (rounds per minute); The m24a1 20mm cannon (what's on the F84B) has a fire rate of 700 rpm, but that's only 1 gun and since of the F84B there are 6 we multiply that by 6 which is 4,200 rpm; This concludes that the F84B has a higher fire rate than the A10, but if the A10 had more guns, well 6 GAU-8 Avengers it would fuck more shit up.
The A-10's GAU-8 fires 3900rpm, the average weight of a round for its standard ammo is 392g, which comes out to 1529kg/min of ammo. WT has the fire rate of the F-89B listed at 1500rpm per gun, which means 9000rpm in total, with a projectile weight (not exact round so +/- a couple grams) of 130g which equates to 1170kg/min of ammo. So the F-89B does fire faster but fires less mass/minute in ammo.

Funny story, I learned today that star Stuka pilot and fighter ace Hans Rudel was apparently consulted during the initial design process of what would eventually become the A-10. Apparently his tank-busting Ju-87 G antics caught the eye of some discerning aircraft designers, and his input and accounts led to what could be considered the modern US equivalent.

To answer your question on the guns on F-89B vs the A-10 series..... It's kind of a toss up; the F-89B has a rate of fire of 6x1,500 or 9,000 Rounds Per Minute, while the GAU-8 is only 3,900 RPM. The rounds used by the GAU-8 weigh 14oz each, while the 20mm round weighs 4.6oz (these are both IRL numbers, I can't find anything regarding mass in game). This works out to 40,500 oz per minute for the F89B, but 56,160 OPM for the GAU-8. Winner: GAU-8 Avenger.....
Depending on what settings you have the Gau 8 (on it's fastest rpm it would spit out 3900 rounds per minute), it will have the exact same rate of fire as 6 x M24's (3900 rounds per minute).
The Gau does A LOT of damage to a concentrated are, hence why it can take on more heavily armored targets.
Now if you have 6×M24's all throwing 20mm rounds at 600-800 rpm, thats a large are of damage.
But the Gau does have a larger cartridge, and does way more damage per round then the M24.

About that comparison between the F-89B and the A-10 in terms of main guns:
tl;dr: Avenger stronk. F-89 has higher round/min (4500 to the A-10's 3900), but delivers about a third of the projectile mass (348 lbs to the A-10's 1171.41 lbs). In terms of delivery rate, the F-89 delivers just under 40% of the projectile mass in the same space of time (21.75 lbs/sec to 55.78 lbs/second). Kind of expected, given that the A-10 carries more rounds, and has a larger caliber gun. What should stand out is the rate of fire, since the A-10 only has the one Avenger. F-89 has six M24's.
FIRE RATE
The F-89B was equipped with six 20mm M24 cannons. Assuming that the M24 is comparable to the British Hispano Mk.V, that gives 750 rounds per minute, per gun, for a total of 4500 rounds per minute. With 200 rounds per gun, you could sustain fire for 16 seconds before running dry.
The A-10's GAU-8 Avenger was once capable of 4200 rounds/min in its high setting, but it has since been fixed to 3900 rounds/min. I will be going off this fixed rate of fire. The A-10 can haul 1350 rounds of ammunition around, which gives about 21 seconds of sustained fire.
ORDINANCE DELIVERY RATE (by mass)
The M24's AP tracer rounds (T9E5) have a projectile mass of 0.29 lbs, or 0.13 kg. Emptying a full ammo store of only AP tracer, the F-89B would be capable of delivering 348 lbs (156 kg) of projectile mass. The delivery rate would be 21.75 lbs/second (348/16) or 9.75 kg/second (156/16).
The GAU-8's AP incendiary rounds of a projectile mass of 14 ounces, or 0.395 kg. While standard anti-armor belts also include HEI rounds, which are slightly lighter at 13.3 ounces (0.378 kg), the projectile mass for each Avenger round is still around triple that of the M24's rounds. If a standard anti-armor belt is 5 API - 1 HEI, then the A-10 would deliver about 1171.41 lbs (529.425 kg) of projectile mass by emptying its entire drum. The delivery rate would be about 55.78 lbs/second (1171.41/21) or 25.21 kg/second (529.425/21).
disclaimer: I wasn't super precise with keeping decimal places around with the avenger, so the numbers might be slightly different from what you get when you crunch the numbers yourself.
According to the Warthunder Wiki the F-89B has a burst mass of 15.15kg/s, the Gau 8 manages to fire 70 rounds a second/4200 rounds per minute, let's say it fires 50/50 belts of PGU-14/B armor piercing incendiary (395g projectile weight) and PGU-13/B high explosive incendiary (378g projectile weight), that would be equal to (35x 395g + 35x378g) ~27kg fired per second ( 27kg 55g), even with just 50 rounds per second it would still fire off ~19.5kg per second (19kg and 325g). So yeah, the F-89B is not quite there.

Don't know if anyone has done this yet but I didn't see it, but the A-10 pretty handily beats the F-89B in kilos of projectile per second by about 64%. Research was done with Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt.

The six m24a1 20 mm each fire at 700 rpm, equaling 4200 rpm for all six. the GAU 8 fires at 3900 rpm. the GAU is slightly slower but the 30 mm deleted uranium rounds weigh 13 oz almost 4 times heavier than a 20 mm. leaving the GAU with a much higher mass output at a staggering 54 lb per second, compared to the 6 20's 14 lbs per second. the GAU is BIIGGG

In tank Rb killing T-54s and so would be a little bit tricky, but other than the egg shape touret basically nothing can get away. I even killed Maus in some rare cases. And it is deadly when killing planes too. Those 20mils just fly like the M3 50cals. Fast and accurate with almost no drop. One thing need to keep in mind though is this plane like to rip at high speed. Make sure to adjust the throttle and air brake in time. --A Professional F-89B Player
