At first, it was for him to atone for his past mistakes which eventually became his own mission to follow Itachi's footsteps to protect the village away from the village.

Chris went from being slightly sympathetic to Itachi's sacrifice to wanting to give the guy a hug. Sasuke finally getting that much needed closure was the best thing that could have happened to him. Though his heart is still filled with rage for the Leaf, his perspective is vastly different from when he first learned the truth. I know someone already made this comment in an earlier episode, but Madera really is the embodiment of "talk shit get hit". The Kage's thought they finally corner him, only for the man to bust out, what is essentially, a Gundam. Talk about a bad night.

My usual argument agaisnt sasuke is "oh but the people of the leaf don't deserve it" but at the same time there's nothing else sasuke can really do to remedy what happened, the leaf already sees him as a criminal/traitor so he can't just try to expose what happened especially considering that he has no proof. So after this I can see his hatred and actions as justified.

releasing a genjutsu is basic stuff, it's basically like nudging someone awake with chakra. if a bunch of people are put under at one time, it would be more dangerous but one person is enough to undo a genjutsu. unless you're up against Itachi who can make you experience eternity in an instant

Sasuke mentioned he started having supressed memories resurface in his dreams; for example Itachi crying as he was leaving the Village the night of the massacre and Sasuke was chasing after him. Sasuke had suppressed it all those years because he thought it was impossible, but after hearing the truth that memory made sense to him and seeing Itachi's reaction.
to make things even more sad, one of the victims of Itachi was his Girlfriend, before killing her he used a Genjutsu on her basically playing out their entire life together, marrying, becoming parents and dying at old age, after that he killed her peacefuly. shit hit hard when learning about that after already crying to the Parents Conversation

Exactly. Him and Sasuke are my absolutely favourite characters. They both do things they shouldn't have done, but they come from a messed up psychology that forces them to do things that aren't justified. But they acknowledge their faults and realize they were wrong. Which is why Itachi haters ranting against him is useless. He admitted he was wrong. Y'all aren't adding anything new.
This episode solidified Itachi as not only my favorite character in this show but one of my favorite characters of all time. What I love about him is that even though his intentions were always good, he still acknowledges his mistakes, even in the afterlife. He takes accountability and does not view himself as a hero. He apologizes to Sasuke and does not expect forgiveness because again he recognizes he probably doesn't deserve it after the hell he's put Sasuke through, even if it was for his benefit in the end. He's not so prideful and stubborn to dismiss the possibility of alternatives and that perhaps at the time there may have been a better way, even when it seemed hopeless and his decision was unavoidable. And true to his character, he does one last huge heroic act from the shadows for the good of all people...again. Not a good person, not a bad person, morally ambiguous, and accountable. Such an amazing character.
It's like it's my comment. You must be my soul brother/sister from some other country. 🤧🤧 Exactly. People are always so desperate to put Itachi in some kind of mould to justify their personal feelings while they understand nothing about his true essence. He makes a lot of mistakes, although with good intentions, and even hurts Sasuke, but realises his ways were wrong. He continues to protect the world from the shadows, watching over his little brother. He loved Sasuke the most but never got a moment to spend with him. Itachi deserved better. But I'm glad Sasuke found his own closure. He deserved it too.
I cried so hard while watching this episode ! Itachi finally saying the truth to Sasuke face to face is exactly what sasuke nedded. Also by telling him this through a sharingan genjutsu/Tsukoyomi Sasuke not only saw everything from Itachis perspective but he also was able to feel what Itachi has felt in those moments. And at the Ende Sasuke thought Itachi would poke him on the forhead like he did all those times to keep sasuke away but instead Itachi reached out to Sasuke and embraced him for the first and final time :(
The episode where you discover that the one who may have suffered the most of the Uchiha massacre might really be Itachi...The impossible choice between the village and the clan, the family and peace...Sasuke or himself. Always the bigger picture but that doesn't mean it was easy to do it...It's the end of the tragic tale of Uchiha Itachi !
There’s a reason why some characters dub him the perfect Shinobi. Dude sacrificed everything to secure the safety of the village/entire Shinobi world, and placed all the anger and hatred upon himself to retain the legend of the Uchiha

How messed up you have to be to decide the best course of action is the massacre of your clan,family,cousins and doing it with the person you suspect unleashed nine tails Fox on the village and that forced the Uchiha clan to relocate to outskirts of the village and you think is Uchiha Madara ,and you didn't tell anyone and Uchiha Shisui trusted you to save the clan not destroy it . It was established in the first arc that you can break/release a Genjutsu by putting your chakra into the victim by interrupting the flow of chakra. Or give them a good smack 😂
Not saying I disagree but saying "even" sakura could do it isn't a strong argument when according to kakashi she has a natural affinity for genjtusu due to her chakra control.

Shippuden 101: Releasing a Genjutsu was explained during the Gaara Death Arc. When they were with Granny Chiyo and fought Itachi's clone they explained how a partner can help in releasing genjutsu if you can't release it on your own. This is the explanation part. They also showed it during the Chunin Exam Arc when Kabuto put everyone under a Genjutsu and Sakura & Kakashi released it from everyone.
Itachi was just 13 when he was forced to choose between killing his entire clan or being labeled a traitor for aiding them in taking over the village. At such a young age he had to make a choice that no one at any age should have to. He suffered so much.
This moment and when Gaara finds out that his mother always loved him... (and some other times I can't mention because it would spoil stuff) always make me cry. No matter how many times I watch this, I just weep.

We don't know how Itachi found the masked guy, but he did seek him out. So... we're finally at this milestone. This is one of the highlights of the show. How do you feel about Itachi, now? Itachi was a pacifist. Danzo broke him with blackmail. He basically assumed the identity of the Leaf, and did things to serve himself. He wanted to be Hokage, but Tobirama chose Sarutobi instead. Itachi always used the head poking thing as a sign of keeping sasuke out it all . To keep him in the dark about all this . To shoulder everything alone . But in the end , he told the truth to his brother and embraced him and told him he will love him till the end .

Because the next in line most qualify for 5th Hokage, was Sasuke's father. Fugaku Uchiha was the runner-up for the position of the 4th, so when Minato died, the 5th should have been Fugaku. But Danzo, like his mentor the 2nd Hokage, made certain no Uchiha in position of political power. Fugaku being secretly denied the position, was a huge insult and the last straw that broke the camel's back. They didn't even openly denied him, they just decide to 'delay' having a 5th Hokage, but every Uchiha got the message. If he ascended to Hokage, there never would have been a civil war. So there was always more then 2 option, if only someone would kill Danzo and the 2 elders, they are some of the most harmful and useless people in the manga.

Honestly, I wonder about Homura. As much as he tends to lean towards Danzo, I think he's portrayed as much more open to discourse than Koharu. That's still not very open, at all, but I mean when you start at Danzo or Koharu you can be fifty times more open minded and still a hawk. He seems like he'd be very difficult to convince, but not impossible.

You know what's insane about all this uchiha massacre is that actually,the man with the mask caused all of this - why was there tension between the uchiha and the leaf leadership? because the uchiha have the ability to control the nine-tails with their visual prowess - so after the nine-tails attack,many people in the leaf suspected the uchiha clan behind it,remember that they never saw the "masked man",only minato fought him and then died during the events,to protect naruto and seal the fox etc. - but he never told anyone about the masked man - so the leaf suspected the uchiha,that distrust grew and the uchiha felt it aswell,so they started suspecting that the leaf leadership was up to something,and they weren't wrong,they felt more and more isolated as a clan,because of all this distrust towards the other side,both sides thought to "strike first",so they planned a coup and the anbu/leadership planned a massacre and the rest u know ofc - i left a lot of little details out,but this is essentially it - for more on this,just go back and watch tobi/masked man telling sasuke the story. This also means that he indeed did tell the truth,except for one part - that HE was the one causing the nine-tails attack,he left that out,because then sasuke would ultimately blame him for all of this and while konoha would still be on his kill-list - masked man would be at the top of that list. But yeah,of course tobi left that part out,to manipulate sasuke into a pawn. So the story was true,but tobi himself caused that disaster. Motives aren't fully clear at this point yet. (Since Spoilers) Little did Itachi know,that when he was talking to the masked man,he was talking to the person behind the nine-tails attack and ultimately,the one forcing him and all people involved into this horrible situation. That was really cool writing by kishimoto.

Kakashi had the honor of being a colleague of Rin and Obito, guided by Minato, and Obito carries the fire that naturo carries. Obito who saw Kakshi's father as a hero, of his life to save Rin and Kakashi. For Itachi and Sasuke, trained and indoctrinated by the traditional Uchiha clan, being cold is customary. They feel many things, but they have always been trained to control their emotions, it's no wonder that a sharingan only awakens in situations of great emotional charge, Mangekyo is awakened with the strong emotion of the loss of a loved one! I say all this to be able to say that Itachi felt every death in his hands, he's sorry about everything all the time, but he accomplishes the mission! To be fair Madara claims nobody could stop him except Madara but he would’ve died multiple times if he wasn’t a reanimation. Even if he had the perfect Susano’o almost nobody starts with their ace card and wastes chakra like that. He understimated them so it would take one small mistake and he would’ve died even if he had the power to defeat all 5 of them.

How is it reasonable? The Uchiha were going to rebel and start a world war in the process and they didn't care. Itachi was stupid listening to Danzo's orders, even he knew it, he knew that Shisui would never approve of Danzo's order. He did it only to preserve the Clan's honor and save Sasuke's life.
The forehead tap was Itachi symbolically keeping Sasuke at arm's length, so at the very end when he revealed everything, in his final moments, instead of pushing Sasuke away one last time he pulled him close.

At first, it was for him to atone for his past mistakes which eventually became his own mission to follow Itachi's footsteps to protect the village away from the village.

Chris went from being slightly sympathetic to Itachi's sacrifice to wanting to give the guy a hug. Sasuke finally getting that much needed closure was the best thing that could have happened to him. Though his heart is still filled with rage for the Leaf, his perspective is vastly different from when he first learned the truth.

My usual argument agaisnt sasuke is "oh but the people of the leaf don't deserve it" but at the same time there's nothing else sasuke can really do to remedy what happened, the leaf already sees him as a criminal/traitor so he can't just try to expose what happened especially considering that he has no proof. So after this I can see his hatred and actions as justified.

My favourite part about Itachi's comeback in the war arc is him admiting his mistakes (from filling Sasuke with only hatred and revange, to this where he talks about how he always lied to him) he did it with good intentions but he made Sasuke what he is today. Fans love to justify everything Itachi did but what makes me love Itachi is that he is not perfect, he did bad stuff made bad decisions and owns it now. Such good character

This episode solidified Itachi as not only my favorite character in this show but one of my favorite characters of all time. What I love about him is that even though his intentions were always good, he still acknowledges his mistakes, even in the afterlife. He takes accountability and does not view himself as a hero. He apologizes to Sasuke and does not expect forgiveness because again he recognizes he probably doesn't deserve it after the hell he's put Sasuke through, even if it was for his benefit in the end. He's not so prideful and stubborn to dismiss the possibility of alternatives and that perhaps at the time there may have been a better way, even when it seemed hopeless and his decision was unavoidable. And true to his character, he does one last huge heroic act from the shadows for the good of all people...again. Not a good person, not a bad person, morally ambiguous, and accountable. Such an amazing character.

Exactly. People are always so desperate to put Itachi in some kind of mould to justify their personal feelings while they understand nothing about his true essence. He makes a lot of mistakes, although with good intentions, and even hurts Sasuke, but realises his ways were wrong. He continues to protect the world from the shadows, watching over his little brother. He loved Sasuke the most but never got a moment to spend with him. Itachi deserved better. But I'm glad Sasuke found his own closure. He deserved it too.

I cried so hard while watching this episode ! Itachi finally saying the truth to Sasuke face to face is exactly what sasuke nedded. Also by telling him this through a sharingan genjutsu/Tsukoyomi Sasuke not only saw everything from Itachis perspective but he also was able to feel what Itachi has felt in those moments. And at the Ende Sasuke thought Itachi would poke him on the forhead like he did all those times to keep sasuke away but instead Itachi reached out to Sasuke and embraced him for the first and final time :(

The episode where you discover that the one who may have suffered the most of the Uchiha massacre might really be Itachi...The impossible choice between the village and the clan, the family and peace...Sasuke or himself. There’s a reason why some characters dub him the perfect Shinobi. Dude sacrificed everything to secure the safety of the village/entire Shinobi world, and placed all the anger and hatred upon himself to retain the legend of the Uchiha

Sakura could even release genjutsu. Any low level shonobi could. They taught you how to do it early in Naruto.

Shippuden 101: Releasing a Genjutsu was explained during the Gaara Death Arc. When they were with Granny Chiyo and fought Itachi's clone they explained how a partner can help in releasing genjutsu if you can't release it on your own. This is the explanation part.
They also showed it during the Chunin Exam Arc when Kabuto put everyone under a Genjutsu and Sakura & Kakashi released it from everyone.
Also Sakura has done it in og Naruto remember kakashi saying release the genjustu Naruto was under

God, Naruto drags on at times but I’d forgotten it really does have some incredible moments as well. So many things I’m excited to see them react to.
Based on the caption, you guys probably now know that the release of genjutsu was done at the Chunin exams, when Kabuto put everyone to sleep. Also, during Naruto's training with Jiraiya, they went into detail how genjutsu release worked. Basically, you give someone an infusion of chakra, to snap them out of it.
The Third Hokage asked everyone to buy him time. Danzo went behind his back and cut off all possibility for negotiation. Itachi and Shisui had planned to use the technique Itachi used to beat the reanimation jutsu, to stop his clan from going to war. Danzo stopped this, by stealing Shisui's eye. Rana is right. We don't know how Itachi found the masked guy, but he did seek him out.
So... we're finally at this milestone. This is one of the highlights of the show. How do you feel about Itachi, now? Itachi was a pacifist. Danzo broke him with blackmail. He basically assumed the identity of the Leaf, and did things to serve himself. He wanted to be Hokage, but Tobirama chose Sarutobi instead. Danzo hesitated & chickened out at t crucial moment. Danzo resented the choice. Since he couldn't be Hokage, he put himself in the position where he was pulling strings, anyway.

Itachi always used the head poking thing as a sign of keeping sasuke out it all . To keep him in the dark about all this . To shoulder everything alone . But in the end , he told the truth to his brother and embraced him and told him he will love him till the end .
*Oh there always was a way to prevent the civil war.* The existence of Danzo and the 2 other members of the elders made certain it wouldn't happen. Did none of you ever asked the question why after the 4th died, Hiruzen Sarutobi was asked to come out of retirement instead of having a 5th Hokage? Because the next in line most qualify for 5th Hokage, was Sasuke's father. Fugaku Uchiha was the runner-up for the position of the 4th, so when Minato died, the 5th should have been Fugaku. But Danzo, like his mentor the 2nd Hokage, made certain no Uchiha in position of political power.
Fugaku being secretly denied the position, was a huge insult and the last straw that broke the camel's back. They didn't even openly denied him, they just decide to 'delay' having a 5th Hokage, but every Uchiha got the message. If he ascended to Hokage, there never would have been a civil war. So there was always more then 2 option, if only someone would kill Danzo and the 2 elders, they are some of the most harmful and useless people in the manga.
I am pretty sure Uchiha were the ones who were forcing the Coup and weren't ready for negotiations.
Also, I may not remember it correctly but didn't Hiruzen reassign himself as Hokage after Minato died?
Honestly, I wonder about Homura. As much as he tends to lean towards Danzo, I think he's portrayed as much more open to discourse than Koharu. That's still not very open, at all, but I mean when you start at Danzo or Koharu you can be fifty times more open minded and still a hawk. He seems like he'd be very difficult to convince, but not impossible.

You know what's insane about all this uchiha massacre is that actually,the man with the mask caused all of this - why was there tension between the uchiha and the leaf leadership? because the uchiha have the ability to control the nine-tails with their visual prowess - so after the nine-tails attack,many people in the leaf suspected the uchiha clan behind it,remember that they never saw the "masked man",only minato fought him and then died during the events,to protect naruto and seal the fox etc. - but he never told anyone about the masked man - so the leaf suspected the uchiha,that distrust grew and the uchiha felt it aswell,so they started suspecting that the leaf leadership was up to something,and they weren't wrong,they felt more and more isolated as a clan,because of all this distrust towards the other side,both sides thought to "strike first",so they planned a coup and the anbu/leadership planned a massacre and the rest u know ofc - i left a lot of little details out,but this is essentially it - for more on this,just go back and watch tobi/masked man telling sasuke the story.
This also means that he indeed did tell the truth,except for one part - that HE was the one causing the nine-tails attack,he left that out,because then sasuke would ultimately blame him for all of this and while konoha would still be on his kill-list - masked man would be at the top of that list. But yeah,of course tobi left that part out,to manipulate sasuke into a pawn. So the story was true,but tobi himself caused that disaster. Motives aren't fully clear at this point yet. (Since Spoilers)

I don't feel like this is spoiling, since it isn't in the anime, just the book version of the Itachi novel, but Tobi was working with the coup plotters. If Itachi hadn't called him out then he would have kept the momentum goin until the Uchiha attacked the Leaf.

Something interesting that many don't realize is that at the beginning of the anime, the Nijas are seen by themselves as cold and rational, always fulfilling their duties, whatever the cost. This is very much represented in Zabuza and Haku's arc. Naruto is the most empathetic, he swears all the time that he will change the world, that ninjas don't have to be like this and that this is his ninja way. To intensify, Kakashi has never trained a group of genin, this was the first time, as he would only pass a team if they were willing to safeify the mission to help their teammate (feeding him). Kakshi lost his father to traditions that viewed a failed mission as dishonor, he had chosen to save his friends and failed in the mission that culminated in his shame and loneliness. Kakashi had the honor of being a colleague of Rin and Obito, guided by Minato, and Obito carries the fire that naturo carries. Obito who saw Kakshi's father as a hero, of his life to save Rin and Kakashi. For Itachi and Sasuke, trained and indoctrinated by the traditional Uchiha clan, being cold is customary. They feel many things, but they have always been trained to control their emotions, it's no wonder that a sharingan only awakens in situations of great emotional charge, Mangekyo is awakened with the strong emotion of the loss of a loved one! I say all this to be able to say that Itachi felt every death in his hands, he's sorry about everything all the time, but he accomplishes the mission! Your father's pride is about how thoughtful and diligent Itachi was.

To be fair Madara claims nobody could stop him except Madara but he would’ve died multiple times if he wasn’t a reanimation. Even if he had the perfect Susano’o almost nobody starts with their ace card and wastes chakra like that. He understimated them so it would take one small mistake and he would’ve died even if he had the power to defeat all 5 of them.

How is it reasonable? The Uchiha were going to rebel and start a world war in the process and they didn't care. Itachi was stupid listening to Danzo's orders, even he knew it, he knew that Shisui would never approve of Danzo's order. He did it only to preserve the Clan's honor and save Sasuke's life.
