    I generated 1,346 kWh for July off an 11.2 system. You win!

    Loving these updates. We have solar and now getting 2 Tesla Powerwalls thanks to videos like these to show the amazing benefits they offer. Just wish we had access to a VPP in New Zealand!!!

      You're going to love your powerwalls! Told my wife they'd be our first purchase at any house we buy in the future. Congratulations! Hopefully you'll get a VPP soon.

      @@TheMahkus thanks for the reply. I’m the one person who doesn’t have a “X” account so I will just asked a question or two here. Little background I use half the Kw’s you do, about 9000 kw per year. I’m not too concerned about the size of the system that seems fairly straightforward. I first concerned about Tesla solar (I own a MY) is the bad rap they get on customer service and the second is the use of string inverters. Any comments you care to make would be appreciated.

    • @TheMahkus

      No worries!
      Happy to help where I can.
      When my system was installed, it didn't function. I ended up calling customer service once a day for like 3 weeks, getting nowhere. Finally an engineer reached out and gave me his personal contact. From there on out, he made sure any issue was fixed quickly and helped out. I haven't had any issues and haven't been in touch with him recently but have made more contacts in the community through the channel here. If you have an issue, I think we could get it directed to someone if need be (but I don't think you'll have an issue). String inverters vs micro - for us we have all our panels east facing with absolutely no obstructions. For us they make total sense. If you have different roof faces or shading, I'd assume they'd use optimizers if needed. I don't have personal experience with that. I'd size your system as large as you possibly can panel wise so that you don't have to worry about microinverters in terms of adding stuff later (string you'd just add a new inverter if you're out of space)

    Thank you for the updates, I been doing alot of research into solar with battery backup, I live in Florida, and our area is prone to outages as our power lines are literally across the street and by trees, so Tesla Powerwalls is what sealed the deal with its storage and surge capacity and going directly with Tesla just made the deal a bit sweeter with the price point. Thanks for the referral code, as I just used it 🙂. Waiting on Tesla now for design layout and hopefully they can get things going, I would love to get everything installed and on before their Powerwall rebate deadline of Oct 31st to get $500 for each one, I ordered 3 🙂

      @TheMahkus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Luis! I saw it pop up in my email...congrats!!! You should have an initial design pretty quickly (if they don't need to come out for a site assessment). Make sure you call your advisor once you get initial designs and ask for the detailed engineering plans. That will give you info on what they're planning for inverters, etc. Get on the phone with an advisor if you don't like anything and have it changed! I bet you'll be installed by the end of October! If not they should still honor that pricing I would think!
      Feel free to message me if you have any questions. Or on X @mahkusg

    How much are you paying the electric company per month with your Tesla solar system?

    • @TheMahkus
      @TheMahkus  ปีที่แล้ว

      $11.95 I believe is the monthly "connection" charge we have to pay every month. We only have to "square up" once a year with our true up. Last year we got a check for around $300. So we netted about $170 to us from the electric company for the year.

    I just subscribed to your channel. I'm not clear on what the VPP is or does?

    • @TheMahkus
      @TheMahkus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary! The Virtual Power Plant is a way for consumers to send back to the grid from their batteries during a time of grid need (heavy usage, storms knock out generation) - benefitting not only the grid - but also the consumer who gets paid (for our program) $2/kWh when we'd normally get about a nickel for that same kWh.

    I saw your interview with Ellie. I live in the Sacramento Delta, so I know all about the $1K. I have Solar panels now, leased from Sunrun. Have had them for years. Do you know of options to install the Power walls with other providers?

    • @TheMahkus
      @TheMahkus  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm honestly not entirely sure...it'd be worth reaching out to Tesla to see! I know adding Powerwalls may force you to NEM3.0.

    Great video, appreciate the data. I have Tesla solar panels and 2x Powerwall+ in sunny Florida. Electricity is my sole utility and I have a Model Y. What setting do you keep your Powerwall on - "Self-Powered" or "Time-Based Control"?

      I’m in the same boat except California. My system just got installed yesterday. I have no idea how to program it😂

    • @TheMahkus
      @TheMahkus  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Michael! Thank you! I personally keep mine on self powered mode most of the year. I'll change it to time based control during the very low producing winter months when my powerwalls aren't able to refill themselves. I made a video about it at the beginning of this channel but I should probably remake it now that I have more data. I think time based control may make you the most money but I keep it in self powered to pay our utility as little as possible!

      I replied to Michael above, I'm team self powered!

      @@TheMahkus I know you have a Tesla car. Since daytime there is sola power. Is it better to charge car in the daytime vs nite?

    • @TheMahkus
      @TheMahkus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're using the Powerwalls to charge at night, it's slightly less efficient as there's efficiency losses going from battery to car. It's most efficient to charge the car using solar during the day.

    There is NO Tesla Solar Roof service in my area, it is installed through certified installers. So will I still get $500 off using the referral link? Also, I am thinking to have 7.78KW solar roof + 2 powerwall, but I don't know about the cost. Can you share the cost of your solar system? Thank you.

    • @TheMahkus
      @TheMahkus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James! If you're ordering the system through Tesla and not a third party, the referral link would get you the $500 off. We had a Tesla crew install our system but there are definitely other crews that do it. Order through the link and have Tesla tell you need to do something otherwise - they won't add the referral benefit ($500 off) later.
      We have 12.24 kW panels and 3 Powerwalls. Total cost for the system was around $55k. After the federal tax credit of 26%, total cost was around $41k. Solar roof will likely be substantially more than a panel system.
