Lea Salonga will always be the Broadway Diva. She has perfect pitch and is a very technical singer. Unique sound, perfect diction, amazing vocal control, and proper techniques. Regine Velasquez here showed her Barbra Streisand side. Lea's inspiration has been Streisand, and I think Regine Velasquez mastered Streisand's technique more. They are both so great, and they are queens to their craft.

My queens!!!! Love them both. Lea has been doing A lot of singing online lately bcos of the covid not only for the Filipinos but from the broadway community and also for Disney. She sang Reflection (Mulan) at 8am and the other one at 2am just because the viewers and the host is actually from United States. and of course you know Sondheim. Sondheim recently celebrated his 90th birthday and Lea was one of the guest who sang.. others are Patti Lupone, Lin Manuel etc (All the legends of broadway)

For me Lea is the best singer.
Lea doesn't belt all the time but she can. One of the requirements of being the lead star of Miss Saigon is to belt E5 with ease... and she obviously originated that role. Watched her performance in Miss Saigon.. there are act 1 and 2 and those songs are hard especially that she used to sing those 8 days a week.
Exactly! Rachelle Ann said it's always been 8 performances weekly minimum and could go up to 9 depending on the demand! Regine is a very good singer but she always ends up not having a voice after concerts. While Lea rarely experienced that.

That's actually true. Regine, when she was younger, was so busy she didn't even have that much time to vocalize before singing. Many times she was hoarse and literally sick and tired from a series of day-long shows, and sleepless and almost without a speaking voice she'd still go on a major concert the very next day without even warming up her vocals... but she'd still slay big time. Then on the next days right after the concert, she'd have another series of shows and gigs and stuff and everything... still belting at the top of her lungs LIVE. The woman is really unbelievable. Without any formal training and background on the "healthier" classical technique, it's really unbelievable how her vocal chords managed to withstand all the vocal stress and abuses she's been doing for more than three decades. Some critics often look down on, degrade, and even bash Regine's unconventional, non-classical approach to belting... but honestly, I feel like even the most trained vocalist with the most perfect and healthiest technique based on classical standards would ruin her voice in a much, much, much shorter length of time doing even just a third of everything that Regine did. And for sure, her voice wouldn't even last a year if she were to employ Regine's belting technique. HAHAHA

That's what's impressive about our singers in the country. They don't show major signs of regress. I mean if you listen to a number of Western artists, like Xtina, you hear the decline of their voice but PH singers (though not trained classically) still manage to sing a birit song after birit song.

The voiceless, netwokless, careerless, and jobless HAS-BEEN Regine has been begging for alms to feed her kid and keep their house. She was NEVER able to perform back-to-back shows in her entire career because of her poor technique (screaming); in fact she’s never been able to pull off singing more than four songs consecutively without ruining her pipes.
Properly trained singers keep their voices (not only for 8 consecutive 2.5-hr performances in the case of Broadway singers) but for years. Has-been Regine’s voice has been ruined since her very first concert at the Folk Arts Theater and now even her speaking voice has been ruined for life. There is NOTHING to be proud of in the Has-been’s “singing” abilities. Screaming is poor technique. Let THIS be a LESSON for aspiring singers!

I haven’t read all the comments but has anyone even mentioned on Lea’s disadvantage in quality of microphones ? Right off the starting block I noticed the quality. Having said that, these are 2 of the best of the best no doubt along with Barbara Streisand, so this was still epic and it always is with those two. It's just that Regine has studied all of Raul's arrangement for the whole duration of Regine's 50th Birthday Online Concert. There was actually a huge screen beside Regine wherein Raul was being showed doing the piano for the whole duration of the concert and there were times that a "play" button was being showed in the screen which means that it was pre-recorded prior to the concert. Regine was doing the vocals 'live' tho...since she was streaming that night through facebook and youtube. Through that online concert, Regine was able to raise 4.2Million+ Philippine Peso(83,150+ USD) funds for the Bantay Bata Foundation(she has done this too with an 85-piece orchestra on her 32nd birthday celebration to raise some funds for the same foundation and she has been doing other charity concerts every year since then). Regine also said that she was actually very nervous that time because her combined viewers almost reached 1M in both facebook and youtube. She has done that 3 hour concert while sitting. She has belted a lot of notes, sustained a lot of high notes and sang a lot of songs while sitting HAHAHA such a powerhouse vocalist❤ Pertaining to what you've said in the end, Regine could sing and can belt any songs flawlessly even when her voice was in its worst condition not until she has suffered an infection the day before her 25th Career Anniversary Concert(November 2012). She wasn't able to sing that night and the concert was cut-short. She has said that her voice will still come out and she can still sing, belt, and sustain high notes even if she has sore throat or cough, but that night was different. She has cried in front of the audience, but she did not walk out or even cancel the show. She was later on diagnosed with an Acid Reflux. After she has got her voice back, she did the same concert for free(for those who have their tickets) and I quote "I will show you how it should be done." She has been know as a fearless diva ever since she has started her career in her teenage years. She idolizes Barbara Streisand and she actually did a concert with Mr. Michel Legrand. Legrand has said that he only loves 2 vocalists in the world which is Barbara Streisand and Regine Velasquez. Regine was supposedly gonna launch an album from Mr. Legrand, but fell apart due to some problems with Regine's record label. She has won national singing contest here in PH named as Bagong Kampeon(1984) and also the Asia Pacific Singing Contest 1989. She was widely known in the whole Asia and some parts of America back then and has been praised by various international artists, and musical directors and composers, and later on was named as the Asia's Songbird(she idolizes Mariah Carey✌ and was the only artist back then who can perform and slay Mariah's songs) having a 4.1 octave range(A2-B6) and backed with her national and international awards. She's a living legend, an Icon, and artist that can stand side by side with the likes of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion.
