    ► FAQ
    Q• Why do you speed up some of the footage in your videos?
    A• We don't, we film it as time-lapse footage. We do not have the battery capacity or data storage to film in real time as our cruises can last up to 7 or 8 hours. We use to the time-lapse footage to help tell the story of movement rather than showcase the scenery. We limit the amount of time-lapse shots we use in each vlog.

    I enjoy your videos because you go to DIFFERENT places (because of the Silver Propeller Challenge) but this is much better than other narrowboat videos that seem to stay on two or three different canals and don't travel much. Its like living in a motorhome or carvan and never going anywhere. I enjoy it so much that you show us the small towns,old buildings, and wonderful countryside.

    Several things...
    First you two are as cute as can be together.
    I love all the places you go...even the Slough Arm and BCN...not great examples of canal beauty, but a waterway network cannot all be a glorious tree-lined historIcal boat journey, I suppose. I am glad you got the first Silver Propeller! You deserve that honor. The way you are going I would not be surprised to see a Gold Propeller created.
    Bits of history, mix of time-lapse with real-time, narration, intros and outtros...it all works. I never really considered just how much work that all was until I watched Jo’s “How to make a VLog” series. Oh my, what an effort. Now I hear the little white dots to lower and raise music sound level, see the blends of videos and appreciate the music breaks blending on the right beat.
    I do miss an occasional episode of narrow boat vegan cooking, and atrocious irreverent beer reviews.
    I am always looking for the next installment.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope we do some more cooking videos in the future, but they rather require getting stuck long enough for Jo to catch up on the traveling vlogs... as for the beer reviews, blech! M

    It is well worth spending a couple of days exploring Ripon. When we were there it rained - Monsoon rained. Just a bit South of your mooring is The Most Pretty Services block on the system, it is like a little country cottage inside and out, and there is a 48 hour mooring there as well. Just near there is a garden with a lot of railway paraphenalia which is Quite Interesting.

    You really must get to York in late February, when this covid is over. We have Vikings from all over Europe for a week. Some would make you look tiny!
    York was Jorvik, the viking capital of the Danelaw.
    In Roman times, the Roman Commander was made Ceasar. His statue is to the right of the Minster as you face it.
    The Railway Museum has the World's fastest steam train,Mallard. Its held the record since 1928.

    First example of Insurance & police force in England in Ripon. It was based on a nightly curfew. If you were out after curfew, you got slung in jail. Curfew was sounded by the Watchman blowin a horn in Ripon, which is still done. Worth seeing, so get up to the market square at sunset. Oldest city in the country too.

    • @MinimalList

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly, though I think it’d be a right pain the majority of the time, when you wouldn’t want it there. The bow thruster is the more generally useful equivalent, though only the hydraulic ones that don’t lose power after a couple of seconds would be of any help with the overwashes. M

    Although not directly related to this vlog (interesting though it is) I thought I'd mention what I was doing yesterday (Monday 10th August.) As part of his policy of making me walk more than I would ordinarily do, my Brother in Law (same age as me, but insanely fit - cycled solo to Geneva last year, because he could) decided we should do some "Industrial Archaeology" - investigate the Lancaster canal near Kendal. I know, I know - it stops at Tewitfield. We visited a small section being restored quite close to Tewitfield - very encouraging - then visited Hincaster Tunnel.
    Unlike the impassable Norwood Tunnel on the Chesterfield and the M6 Motorway built over another part of the Lancaster (and almost impossible to pass, even if funds were available) the Hincaster Tunnel is in rude health and a very imposing structure. There is even enough water in it to float a narrowboat, although nothing more at either end.
    Finally, we went through Sedgewick, where the canal served the gunpowder works (!) thence into Kendal to get fuel for my journey home today, then visited a unique canal structure. The only crossover bridge in Cumbria! I think it is bridge 182 and it carries a road over a public footpath, that was the line of the canal. About a half mile north of that, was once a basin terminus of the Lancaster canal. It would be lovely to restore the canal to Kendal, but I fear the 'cost/benefit' analysis would stop it, because the Lancaster is understandably isolated by the Ribble link. But a fascinating afternoon that sort of extends your visit, earlier in the lockdown.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a great walk, and the tunnel sounds right up my alley to visit! Would absolutely love to see it opened further north, if only to settle that dispute with Yorkshire about Ripon being higher! ;-) M

      They’re the Motorola Talkabout T92 H20 model; not the cheapest, but they’re waterproof, float, and are simple enough to use with gloves on, unlike a lot of the cheaper units we’ve seen. Only drawbacks are they’ve got a useless flashlight function that’s too easy to enable and drains the batteries, plus no actual attachment point for a lanyard, which would be better than the clunky belt clip / truly useless whistle. But overall they work well. M
