Thanks everyone for pointing out that MIKE actually did the clean, highly-effected, reverse-sounding vocals! I just love the arranging and production in this track!
I don't think the actual vocal was performed by Mike. To my ears it's clearly Chester's voice, but Mike did reverse the audio, chopped it up, rearranged it and put some effects on top. The original line says "I never wanted this to happen.".
@@andrethegreat22_za39 Oh I haven’t seen the interview, but if Mike really said he sang that part then of course I believe him. But it’s really cool that his piched up vocal sounds like Chester’s! Now I’m very curious how the pitched down vocals sound like so I’m going to open the song up in Ableton and pitch the reversed part down 😂
That note, that part, it brings me to the same "atmosphere" and the same feeling that I ALWAYS felt listening to "Somewhere I Belong"... Fighting Myself brought me back to 2000's, no doubt! Perfect!
YEAH, During 2006 or 07 live performances Chester used to violently shake his head while screaming at the end of the song "breaking the habit" as if he treated his throat as the musical instrument. Also, remember those 'Sometimes.. Sometimes....Sometimes...' when they preformed "Hight voltage" during the Hybrid Theory era. He was always doing something crazy. I think he once told on the interview that he did everything that he shouldn't to push the limit of his voice. We were so spoiled by Linkin Park music.
Believe it or not but the melody in the background is actually Mike Shinoda's singing in reverse! And the bridge is also Mike. It just shows how good of a producer he is and how well their voices blend together.
@@CristalO88 Sorry for the confusion. Chester does sing that part. But I’m mostly certain that the “I can’t breathe I need to break free” parts are both Mike’s vocals overlayed with Chester’s screams. And in usual LP fashion they turn it into a symphony of Mike’s raps, Chester’s singing and other harmonies. And in the outro it’s obviously Chester singing the chorus mixed with the aforementioned bridge lyrics. Kind of like the climax of Papercut. I couldn’t hear it was Mike layered with Chester on the bridge until a few listens. But it’s there if you really dial into the soundscape. Hope this helps!
When your outtakes are basically as good as your released material, you know you've made it as a band. Btw, as someone pointed out, the backwards vocal is actually Mike with a lot of post processing as he confirmed this in the Howard Stern interview. It's still great, and I believe in some other demos from their Hybrid Theory EP, Chester was able to do similar kinds of vocals.
They released a bunch of instrumentals through their LP Underground stuff: any of them are soundtrack quality. They were incredibly consistent like few bands have ever been, all while effortlessly bending genres with every release. Set a sound template that's being used by the biggest metalcore bands 20 years later. Sold 150m and still somehow underrated.
Hey Chris, had you ever heard Cross Off from Mark Morton feat. Chester? His vocals are insane in that song. Would love to see a deep dive on it in your channel. Thanks
I had hybrid theory cd in my car forever, it is such a good album. They did a live concert DVD I can't remember the name but Chester was such a beast of a vocalist. Crazy crazy good

This song is really awesome and i'm addicted to it. I love the fact that Linkin Park has been so open to release old never heard before songs and demos. It's so cool.
Ohhh MY GOSH!!! YOU explained it perfectly!!! There is something… some lure… Some hidden drug in every single LP song!! It hooks & Holds every person that listens to them! They affected millions with their music. You explained like I’ve never heard, and it was perfect!!! He knew the power of his voice like no other! The relationship/ incredible bond between Chester, Mike and the rest of the band was truly like no other. Never will be another and they are so truly missed. It breaks my heart, even still to this day…. That we will never have more and new music coming from them.
Are you a sound vocalist analyst guy or something? I don’t know the exact word. But Chester’s voice was unique, a rare talent. Shame we lost him, he was an angel over everyone’s shoulder, a shame and tragedy this was, rest in peace man. Thank you for the memories, I never got to see and meet you in person, but I need you now, WE need you now! Rest easy you beautiful legend.❤️

Always love these analysis videos from you! There's still 2 more songs coming from the Meteora recordings. It sounds like the reversed vocals at the beginning and toward the end are also used for the melodies under Mike's rapping.
Mike is the best rock rapper ever. Potentially the most underrated rapper of our generation. His flow with rock beats is insane. Besides being a massively underrated rapper he is potentially the most underrated musician commercially in an individual sense of our generation.

I’m sure by now you know they dropped a lot of material yesterday but they have a playlist for Meteora|20 actual that has 89 whole videos too, including them live from Texas, with a bunch of unreleased tracks, I don’t even know how many are in there. Clearly someone saw your reaction though, I know you’ve done some videos with actual artists in the past (periphery I think), maybe there’s a chance you could get Mike Shinoda to just come around or even video call and talk about the production of LPs music and what they were thinking at the time or what Chester would have put on a couple of the tracks that are missing his vocals because they don’t have a recording for it.
Dude, I hope you know of Grey Daze, Chester's band from when he was 19? They've released several songs, I think 2 albums with refurbished production, same 19 years old Chester tho. Phenomenal stuff too! But this Hybrid Theory sound is just so unique and precious. ❤
