I like the fact you dont need bits for the gerber. You get both flat head and phillips with out having to carry an extra bit.

The crucial was my first multi tool and I absolutely love it. It's one of my favorite knife profiles to date though I wish it was made of a better metal. The crucial also has a fantastic bottle opener/carabiner. I wish some of their other multi tools included the same carabiner/bottle opener Clip. In my opinion it's under rated.

Very Good observations! The amount of different multitools out there is a great opportunity to pick one that suits the individual needs.

I don't own a Crucial but do have other Gerber products and they work fine. One thing to consider is with the Skeletool you can use their bit extender or/and ratchet also which adds some versatility. I like the Skeletool. It's a great pocket carry multitool. Good comparison take care 😉

I love my Skeletool so much. Use it all the time, I think the screwdriver gets the most use. I just learned Leatherman sella replacement bits that have flat head in one side and Philips on the other so to you can change without removing the spare bit. Game changer.

I don’t know if you saw it, but the new SOG Flash multitool is expected to be in this size range. It addresses the issues I had with the PowerPint (short grip and small blades) while still being a great compact edc size (with what looks like a deep carry clip). It will have pliers, wire cutters, D2 blade, flathead and an exchangeable Phillips bit. I’m looking forward to it. Not to sound like an ad, but their compound leverage really does work and this should be a good size to take advantage of it while still being compact.

Great Point. I have looked at Midway USA's site where they list the SOG Flash MT as overdue in stock. It is listed elsewhere as coming in March. At $69;95 it is definitely in the price range of its competitors. I agree the one thing SOG does well is making great pliers!

once upon a time... Gerber made good, budget friendly knives and tools but not any more. during the over a decade.... actually almost two decades Gerber always made cheap-made-in-china-copy of the others creative products. I am so tired to seeing that.

Leatherman wins with me, hands down and every time I've sent a Leatherman product in for warranty I've received excellent service. Gerber...I used to be a fan but not anymore. I never used their warranty until recently and I had a MP600 that I submitted a warranty claim on. It's been 6 months and still nothing from them. I've received emails saying they're out of stock and will be in stock soon but..how long does it take. Anyway if for nothing else Leatherman has a great customer service department but they're built better also IMO. Great review 👏

Had never heard of the Gerber Crucial before. Looks interesting. I have the Gerber Splice and the Leatherman Micra and I much prefer the Gerber on my Keychain - more robust and has more tools. I like the compactness of the Crucial and I think the carabiner /bottle opener are an unnecessary addition of length on the Skeletool . No multi tool needs a bottle opener - any flat surface on the multi tool will do the job. Gonna have to go and order the Crucial now - damn you to hell!! 😭😁

I've owned both the skeletool and the crucial the leathermen is the better tool hands down the crucial feels like a cheep toy theirs a ton of play in the knife and pliers the pivots are lose the Liner locks on the bits over engage the leathermen is literally twice the tool and my experience with the crucial has scared me away buying any more Gerber products

Not in most peoples experience - more tradies use gerber and do real work with them without proken plier heads, blisters, getting pinched or hours spent cleaning out speed holes.

Man you sound like a gerber marketing rep or something lol. I doubt anyone actually uses a crutial for any real work mine wouldn’t even stand as a tackle box tool that I used for fishing it never pinched me but it did cut me when the lock on the knife failed by then literally every pivot point on the tool was loose and had tons of play even when new the knife pivot had tons of play and the locks on the screwdrivers would stick.the build quality on my Walmart multi tool is miles better then any gerber I’ve owned my centerdrive couldn’t even cut baleing wire without shattering its cutters. Either way I wouldn’t uses a crutal or skeletool for a work tool their to small I’ve since upgraded to a charge+ and couldn't be happier. But these are just my experiences and yours might be different

@@carlhoppe9035 Sadly no it is guilt - I have been a Leathetman or bust guy since dad bought me a PST as a kid. Never gave Gerber the time of day even when surrounded by them but loosy goosy though they are have grudgingly found they work to spec. Yeah carbide ain't for hard stuff and my original wave pliers still cut anything my hands, elbows and knees can push them through but for work sites and campsites when tools walk off AND value for money they really hit the spot. LM really need to get back to their old quality and/or fair pricing to cut it as horrible as I feel saying it

Hi, I was considering Skeletool before buying the Crucial, but don't regret it. And the leatherman was more than twice the price, but I think it is not twice the tool. About the warranty I have sheared my experience with you, here in the UK. Both companies are standing behind their products, no problems at all. Just Gerber warranty outside of US is 25 years, in the US is lifetime. Nice comparison. Check out my experience if you like: th-cam.com/video/bxVh4XsKBbY/w-d-xo.html

Pliers are the basis of any multi-tool. Among the manufacturers of multi-tools, only Leatherman can produce high-quality pliers. The pursuers are not visible even through binoculars. If you see a little dust far behind, it's the SOG company...... So such comparisons are actually wrong. Why do I, as a user, need a multitool with curved pliers made of "plasticine"? If I am not satisfied with a small blade in a multi-tool, then I will put a knife with one blade in another pocket.

The Havlon Evolve has the best pliers in this class of tool and if you carry a knife swap out the blade for the saw. Also has full size bits, secure enclosed internal bit storage, a cutting hook, wire strippers, and the sturdiest most comfortable handles!

I've had my Leatherman skeletool with hard use for over 7 years. The Gerber crucial didn't last 3 months. The screws and the threads on the pocket clip came out that tells you how cheap the metal If you can call it metal is. The thumb studs came off the blade and the plier broke. I sent it back to Gerber and they replaced it with a completely different tool. I tried multiple Gerber tools over the years and they always fail me, so needless to say I stick with Leatherman.

I like lifetime warranty vs twenty five year I like how well the tools lock up better on the Gerber. As far as loosing of tools none yet. I don’t like being limited on the bits make a adopter for the Gerber. Leatherman can change out the bits a plus modified files saws will work beats the Gerber. Pliers both are good wire cutters is the unknown. Gerber needed to refine the tool more maybe test it out in the woods get feedback make changes before rushing it into production.

This video is like comparing garbage to trash.
Gerber crucial equals absolute garbage. We bought one at the local Home Depot. After 1 week the liner lock for the blade jammed the blade in the open position and we could not close it using anything less than vice grip pliers. We took that one back to Home Depot and they exchanged it for free. We have the second one and the same thing happened to that within about a week. Blade is jammed open and you can't close it. Took it back to Home Depot and they said that everyone they sold had been brought back for the exact same reason and they no longer will carry or exchange that product. So, I had to send that one into Gerber. Gerber sent me a replacement. However, they showed such attitude with that replacement that they jammed the bolts in so strong that nobody here could open the pliers on the crucial using anything less than two sets of vice grip pliers to force them open. We threw that one in the trash and said screw it.
All that being said, I have five Leatherman's including the skeletool. The skeletal is the worst multi-tool I've ever owned and that is even including some of the cheap $5 multi-tools that I picked up when I was much younger.
To summarize, this video is just comparing garbage to trash.
