My sister and I took this route last days of Sept. It was a lot of road walking. Lucky we never met any dogs. We also did have paths in the woods quite a bit. The Mall really threw us. We did on t see markers either, we took the road. We stayed in Valcarlos.

Same for my friend and I in 2018. We walked 3/27 - 4/11. We DID walk across the bridge where the mall is and after about 1/2 mile we backtracked to see if we'd missed an arrow--we did. I really enjoyed the Valcarlos route. The Pilgrim Office warned us NOT to take the trail between Valcarlos and Roncesvalles as it was muddy and been raining. So yes, a LOT of road walking. I hope to go back this Fall and walk the entire Camino this time. We only walked about 218 miles. Can't wait to return and will go solo this time :)

@@purplewindpct early february? I'm planning on the Valcarlos route at the end of this month (March)...wondering how much snow I'm likely to encounter? Maybe I should pack a few dog treats?

@@reginareed16 if I would’ve went to the pilgrims office before hand they would’ve told me not to take the trail and stay in the road. That being said, your snow mitigation should be minimal. Great idea on the dog treats!!!

Damn, growled at by 3 dogs on your first day and one even having a go at you, they don’t like your backpack 🎒 or something 😂? I have walked the Camino a good few times and never once been growled at except by my wife when going the wrong way 🤔. Hope you meet some more friendly dogs going forward, you have a long way to go
