that makes me think of a comment that I saw recently on one of these videos where someone said that where they live/study in Italy they all make a drink called the "student's coffee" and it's basically just making a mocha then making a second one but instead of using water they use the coffee they just brewed instead to mix in. I'm sure this is way more popular/well known but I just never really heard of it and thought it was neat lol 🤷

Oh boy. You've just unlocked a suppressed memory of a college drink me and my buddies called "PAIN". Instructions:
Make coffee in the Keurig, with red bull instead of water
Mix in 4 shots of espresso
Make coffee in the Keurig, with the new mixture instead of water
Mix in a serving of instant coffee
You basically had to drink it as fast as possible or you would throw up (happened a couple of times), and then spend the next 8 hours hoping you didn't just randomly die.

I wonder if, rather than running through a standard coffee machine, you heated up these various liquids on the stove to reasonable temperatures (ex., not past the scald point of milk), and used a method like a french press to brew, how different the results would be. I'm thinking french press, or maybe aeropress, because you can force the liquids. I don't think eggnog would work well in a pour over setup, for instance.

We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

It would be interesting to see a cold brew variant of this. I don't usually do cold brew, but experimenting with "infusing" these drinks with coffee, might provide some more palatable results? Especially with some of the drinks that are carbonated or milk based, since they would not be heated to the point they go through a transformation. Maybe even something with those Co2 fizzers, for some of them!
It also would be much more attemptable at home, without having to sacrifice a machine or equipment to the cause. Just a mason jar and some cheesecloth probably.

Suggestion for next time? Different methods than just pure percolating.
Perhaps try this again but using something like a French Press machine? That way you can control the heat of the liquid, so it doesn't bring out the less-pleasant flavours you're looking to avoid.
Perhaps try cold-brewing methods. Yet MORE liquids! Whiskey, Wine, Coca-Cola, Mountain Dew, carbonated water like Perrier, etc. etc. etc.!
These could all make some very different flavour combinations.

I feel like the right way to do Red Bull coffee is not dissimilar to the way that they do navy coffee, which is to say a lot of medium roasted coffee grounds (about two level tablespoons per 8 ounces) with a dash or two of salt to cut the bitterness.
Because if you’re brewing coffee with Red Bull, you’re probably trying to stay up for three days straight anyways, so you might as well go full send.

funny thing is I actually really enjoy green tea coffee 😅, but i'd never make it like that. I always brew my coffee first then let it sit in a cup with a tea bag. its important to note that teas can be pretty fussy about temperatures else they get gross and bitter

But from my experience tea does "coffee". Lived in a town with horrendous water so I made pots of tea to drink instead of water, as an attempt to drive off the chlorine and mask the smell. Wanted a quick cup before work so I pulled out the Vietnamese dripper and poured a cup of coffee with filtered tea water. It was surprisingly adequate actually. So much so that I've repeated it multiple times on other occasions. I did use black tea and it was unsweetened and I do like bitter robusta ristretto. So that might put me in a different category than some drinkers, for context.

I'm honesty surprised you got any result with the eggnog. I was expecting it to cook like a custard (honestly, eggnog is essentially uncooked custard base) and just clog up that poor coffee maker. I do have to agree with using eggnog (especially a spiked eggnog) as a festive holiday creamer.

Stumbled upon your videos while researching cheap expresso machines. Further noticed you're planning a trip to Italy in 2022. As I write this, my wife and I are packing to leave and return to Germany. We've been staying the last 7 days in "Campo de' Fiori". A good general location for seeing most of the sites but of course, incredibility touristy. I'm sure you'll be doing plenty of planning and thinking through your trip so I will leave you with just one restaurant recommendation. Make sure you make a trip to "Trattoria Da Enzo al 29". As of this writing it still maintains a positive image with high ratings and best of all it's not a tourist trap. First time I've ordered any kind of pasta that I did not have to request additional cheese. I think you will find it delightful. Good luck to you and enjoy your journey where ever it takes you.

The coffee brewer also probably burnt the green tea. I would guess that separately brewed unflavored green tea added to coffee might not be so bad. But green tea does burn at temps above 160F

Coffee lemonade is actually pretty popular around me! They always do it with cold brew though and it is a 50/50 mix, like an Arnold Palmer, not brewed with the juice lol

They only way I think you can get green tea to coffee is if you brew coffee and then steep your tea afterwards. Green tea is so delicate, the heat from the coffee machine probably kill all the good notes and brought out all the bitterness.

  • @lidiabidia105
    @lidiabidia105 2 ปีที่แล้ว

as a tea lover my guess for the green tea turning out so bad is that you’re not meant to let most green teas reach above 80 celsius (I believe 180 Fahrenheit??) or they will burn, Ive found this issue consists even when the leaves are removed when I warm my cold brewed tea back up (don’t come at me for warming up a purposefully cold brewed drink)

An interesting comparison would be to make 1 regular brew of coffee and then mix it with the liquids to compare how the flavors go together without heating them up. Or as other people suggested - make cold brew with them.

I like insight from random beristas, sometimes they have custom drinks that are not on the menu. One time I asked for something sweet, cold, and caffinated, but wanted them to decide on what drink. There were ads on the windows for energy drinks and smooties, so I thought ide be getting something like a rebel from Dutchbros. I received a blended drink that was yellow in color and smelled something like lemonade. It taste what can only be described as a fermented lemon warhead candy! It was so bad! I asked what it was; basically a blended lemon drink with a shot of espresso. So when I saw the orange juice I had flashbacks of this drink and screemed NO NO NO at my screen, but you didn't hear me. Hopefully you recover better than I did. I still shiver when I think about it.

On the one hand I'm pretty sure GMM did something similar with a coffee brewer at one point, but they changed up more than just the liquid going in. It was in their putting things through a _______ series. They did a water filter and then a coffee machine. But that said, I still enjoyed watching your take on it.
