    Also I just got a new mic setup (yay, no mic on screen!) but I know there are a few parts of this video where I’m not completely synced to the audio. Sorry about that, still on a learning curve with editing and didn’t want to delay this video any further! Will be better next time! :)

      Wow Morgan so many videos so quickly I feel like we're getting spoiled here I like it.

    • @fluffycritter
      @fluffycritter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For what it’s worth, most video editing software has an automated means for synchronizing separate audio and video sources (by using the camera’s audio to line things up), which makes A/V sync a lot easier. Also all things being equal it’s best to have the video slightly ahead, since we tend not to notice that as much (since we’re used to there being a slight audio delay in real life due to the speed of sound being only 1 foot per millisecond).
      Another trick I like to use is to unmute the camera audio and just listen, and nudge it around until there’s no audible delay between the two versions of the sound.
      Don’t do your sync by trying to line up the sound to your lips, that’s a really hard way to do it and usually doesn’t sound very natural.
      Another thing you can do to make things easier is to start every video take by clapping once, loudly, which will give you a nice visual indicator of where the audio waveforms should line up.

    • @fluffycritter
      @fluffycritter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oh also your editing is pretty good! I do notice the desync in a few places but it’s not hugely distracting. You’ll absolutely get the hang of this soon enough. Just keep doing what you’re doing. :)

    I really love how non judgmental you are about things like ground coffee, flavored coffees, and decaf coffee. I've been a barista for 9 years and have trained countless baristas and had endless conversations with customers and the sheer volume of snootiness about "decaf is just hot brown gross water" and "flavored coffee is lying to yourself" has really driven me crazy. I love being able to grind my own coffee to fit my needs, but my absolute favorite coffee blend of all times is from Target, their Archer Farms Hot Buttered Rum Light Roast Coffee. Yes, it straight up smells like candy, and that aroma will fill the kitchen for the whole day and it just makes me so happy. Similar to your vanilla blend, the flavor is more muted after it's brewed. I feel like that "aroma" is more the experience than the actual flavor itself.
    Really enjoyed this video :)

      You NEED to try Roaming Goat Highlander Grogg. It's my cousins favorite and I love it too. I'm going to screenshot and buy her this archers farms one too try. It's like.... butterscotch and the lovely natural faint vanilla, primarily Carmel notes linger for hours (if you brew it daily it's pretty persistent 😍) if not all day.

      I love certain blueberry flavored coffees. Doesn't make sense at first, but I'm leaning toward citrus, floral nowadays, and blueberry falls smack in the middle of that. Plus, the smell is heavenly and different.

      @Jeannie Park Several years ago I found a Berry Blend coffee sold for retail by Dunkin Donuts. The coffee itself was kind of acidic, but it smelled AMAZING so I know exactly what you mean. I find they pair really well if you sweeten it with honey instead of regular sugar.

    I noticed how excited you were for the instant premixed coffee. I've tried many of these before and have found that i HIGHLY prefer many korean brands, like Namyang and Maxim. I've learned that they do tend to have more sugar than i would prefer. I shake the packet up and down for 10-20 seconds before opening. This lets the lighter weighted instant coffee and milk powder rise to the top and the heavier sugar crystals drop down. Then pinch the bottm before you dump it into your cup, adjust as you wish.

    • @NymphettEcho
      @NymphettEcho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree. For instant premix, I also really like Maxim, specifically the mocha flavor (taste like regular coffee to me, not mocha, but it’s good). Super handy for camping and the occasional hankering for that particular flavor.
      I haven’t tried Namyang but I’ll check it out!

    That Illy is ground for filter. You can tell by the little symbol on the bottom front of the can. They have specific grinds for every brewing method. My personal choice is the classic roast (the red ring) ground for Moka. It's the perfect camping coffee, verry pleasent, round and mellow. Their darker roasts are verry bitter and might work for espresso but not for anything else.

    I snagged a small tin of pre-ground Illy at a different store, and it has directions for espresso machine and moka pot. I’ve had no luck with it in my Gaggia Classic, so as far as I can tell Illy grinds their coffee to be brewed in a trusty moka pot.
    UPDATE: My hunch was correct, it’s moka pot grind.

    Colombian here! I think that instant coffee is not good, but if you want to drink it, use the double amount recommended, even triple it. If you don't, your coffee will taste like nothing. Colombian coffee is very mild and smooth, and for whatever reason, when it's in an instant form, the flavor dilutes a lot!

    As a former (almost) self proclaimed TJs junkie, I enjoyed this video lol. A big fan of the bottled cold brews. Agreed, the nitro isn't the best. With the understanding that TJs takes private labeling to the next level, some of these products can be found elsewhere. The whole bean coffee is hit or miss. Since roast dates aren't disclosed, I usually have a better experience with the beans within the first few days of opening the package. If you're on a budget and need convenient drip coffee, the medium roast TJ coffee is one to go to. Also not sure if they changed the policy for covid, but in the store you're allowed to ask to sample just about anything. My friend works there. Also they do have a coffee cart sampling station. In my area even during covid they would brew and leave it for self serve, not sure if that changed. I only stopped shopping there because they don't have a delivery service.

    During initial Lyme disease, with extreme fatigue and brain fog, to cut through the sleeping sickness nightmare, I'd have a cup occasionally.
    A New Jersey 74 yr.-Old friend gave me one of those fat little Farberware coffee pots, which makes really fast, hot, good coffee. He found it for $5 at a thrift store. 2 T. Beans ground fresh, 1.5 c. of water, and half n half without the Rbst or maybe organic, some raw sugar... and I had a cup of comfort. Jim and I had a weekly phone coffee 'date' on Sunday to touch base, until he rudely died on me. Things change in life. I miss my friend. He made the best cold cut sandwiches....and though male, not being a lengthy talker, I appreciated his evolution per phone call and his company.
    Now I've drifted to organic decaf, but Swiss processed only, as the carbon dioxide exuding process gave me stomach pain and instant bloat, like ulcers. It might be that processing with CO2 makes coffee more acidic or has some residue or chemical reaction.
    That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I've noticed people can tend to be connoisseurs of coffee, roasts and blends, suppliers, etc.
    Thank you for your thorough TJoe's investigation efforts...viewed on a Sunday morning.

    Old Town white coffee is really good! It's a 3-in-1 instant coffee; there are different flavours, and one with less sugar. You can usually find it in Asian grocery stores

      @@OldmanJables my problem is TJ's roasts pretty dark (you saw that sumatra) and nearly everything they have is "medium-dark" or straight dark or even "extra dark"... I just don't like dark coffee at all so I really have like 2 choices, and the Colombia is pretty good for that.

    Illy is very well known coffee brand in Italy, I would say it's the most premium consumer grade coffee there is on the shelves, it's widely used in bars for espresso, and in the store it can be found in 4 different grinds (beside different roasting grades for each of the grinds): whole coffee, moka pot, espresso and filter, the tin has the same form factor for all of them but you can see the symbol and description on the front, you had the filetr coffee one.
    I usually use the classic (medium roast) for espresso and I really like it as an everyday espresso, crema is good, aromas are good, but tend to the darker side and for a pre ground coffee isn't that bad.

    I have some of the cold brew powder for when I am in a hurry. But I don't put it in water, I put it in oat milk that I sweeten a little with a turbinado cane sugar syrup I make for all my cold coffees (I am not a hot coffee drinker at all) and it's pretty good imo

    Kudos to you doing a tasting video with so many coffees in one video instead of breaking up into several different videos like a part 1, 2, 3 and 4 for each category. That one pre-ground coffee that you weren't completely sure how to brew it, because it was ground pretty fine might be ok to brew using the Turkish method of making coffee.

    Colombian Whole Bean fan checking in! I'm not super picky with my coffee, but have found the Colombian roast to be the best "bang for you buck" whole bean coffee you can easily buy. It also makes for a great espresso grind, and is my summer go to when I want something iced (aka double shot over ice with some milk).

    I drink decaf and half-caf frequently and have taken my chances on TJ's (only) decaf coffee. And yes! It's actually a good neutral and pleasant coffee. Would buy again.
    I've also gotten the barista espresso blend and it's for sure more "powerful", tastes "darker", not bad though but not my favorite. However I also tend to like more of a medium or light roast. I should try TJ's Colombia next!

    I'm definitely a chocolate creamer guy myself, the full bodied dark roast with a simple chocolate creamer and maybe a shot of milk.
    Though, in failing having good chocolate creamer, I do fall back to french vanilla, it's my dad's go to, and having grown up with it it's nice.

    Before watching: I had a few of Trader Joe's coffee before. Their (now discontinued, because of course Trader Joe's) K-cup compatible pods were pretty decent, I wasn't impressed with a French roast can, and I think I had their vanilla canned cold brew, which tasted to me like liquid that vaguely tasted like coffee. And their nitro was very... meh. I think I've had nitro from Starbucks once and thinking, "Not sure what all the fuss is about, this tastes like Starbucks cold brew, i.e. their acidic iced coffee."
    I'll definitely get their decaf to try out. Maybe make a big batch of cold brew to drink in the afternoon.
    The cold brew powder reminded me of the "instant iced coffee" Starbucks sold a couple of years before cold brew really exploded on the market. It wasn't very good.
    I tend to dilute cold brew concentrate with whatever milk-like thing I'm putting into coffee, like Trader Joe's almond milk, so in the very unlikely event I run out of coffee beans, I will get me a bottle of the concentrate. Then again, I like my concentrate stupidly strong for some reason. I guess I like being kicked in the face by my coffee.
    Edit: It also took me way too long to realize that oily beans are often RANCID beans because that surface oil is surely oxidized by the time I get the beans home.

    Great reviews! I totally agree with you - their whole bean Colombia Supremo has always been solid and surprisingly tasty. Occasionally their limited edition single origin coffees can be tasty, but overall TJ’s coffee has more often than not been over roasted. For around the same price per lb, I’ve found Happy Mug Coffee a lot better.

    Trader Joes will frequently have some "Small Lot" coffees that are from a specific farm. They haven't had them in a few months though from supply chain issues.
    I also tried the summatra and returned it after one cup because it was so bad.
    Fun fact: You can return anything to trader joes that you don't like (even produce if it spoils in a day or two). Source: My mom and multiple friends who have worked there.
