I like the parallels with the Dark Knight Rises. In that, Batman died so that Bruce Wayne could truly live. In Arkham Knight, Bruce Wayne died so that Batman could truly live.

Bruce didn't kill himself cause if that were the case, the explosion would've killed Alfred as well and he isn't the type of person to put others in danger. He faked his death and reassumed his position as Batman seeing as to how no one would know who he is once again. The final scene probably meant that he is using a sort of modified fear toxin that could affect the criminals, or that the criminals, after absorbing the cranes toxin, now fear batman. so whenever they saw batman, the toxin took over and made them see this scary image of him. It will only affect the criminals since only they were exposed.
Still, Bruce didn't die.

Or maybe its annoucment of the new game. Look : Arkham Trilogy is end, there are roumors that Rockestedy is making the Superman game. And Nightmare/Demon Batman is perfect Villain for this.
Do people even doubt this? When they talked about activating the Batfall protocol to protect everyone he knew, it was pretty obvious that he'd feign his death. There's no other way around it, and Bruce wouldn't commit suicide (and he MOST DEFINITELY wouldn't do it if he had to take Alfred with him).

Or maybe it's Azrael who became Batman's successor, in-game you can make Azrael refuse to try to kill Batman, and become his friend. Also, if i recall correctly in the knightfall comicbook arc it was Azrael who replaced Bruce as Batman after Bane broke his back. While in the meantime Bruce is finally enjoyng his billion on some tropical island, kinda like we saw in "The dark Knight rises" movie.
Man, this ending hits SO much harder now. And it hit pretty hard even when this game was new.

It's very heartbreaking especially when he died just 20 days away from his birthday. I'm definitely gonna play this game and watch the animated series as tribute when the time comes on his birthday.

To save Gotham, you wouldn't even need to beat Riddler. I mean, he's hiding in a hole, until Batman finds all his shit, right? Edit: I had to come back here after watching the absolute shitshow that went down in Suicide Squad. This is the true ending to the Arkham series. Batman died here and went out a hero.

I think Jason Griffith would make a good Batman. He voiced Shadow the Hedgehog back in the 2000s and did a Phenomenal job. I think he could fit the role as the serious crime-fighting detective.

Bruce is still alive & uses the fear toxin as a new way to scare criminals & keep Gotham safe as "Nightmare Batman".

I don't think he's using fear toxin. I think they were already exposed to it. Remember, all of the normal citizens were evacuated at the beginning of the game, so only the criminals stayed behind. So when the cloudburst scenario happened, literally every single criminal in Gotham got exposed to the fear toxin. And it was mentioned that the fear toxin can have long-lasting psychological effects (especially this new version of it), which means that all of the criminals of Gotham will likely be haunted by vivid, nightmarish hallucinations of Batman for the rest of their lives, every time they try to commit a crime.

The joker took over Bruce's body and Bruce was gone, and when joker (in Bruce's body) got injected with the fear gas, joker witnesses his fear of being forgotten and loosing to batman, that's when batman takes over the body and joker's forgotten.
In my mind this the real ending, a ending that gave Batman/Kevin Conroy a fitting end
Welp but the new game explained he just faked his death to use the fear toxin so is not a another person using the toxin its bruce but he fakes his death one good point of this trash suicide squad game

Batman never died here it was printed out throughout the games and even in the final dialogues, and the comic that came out right after about a Batman visiting diff Batman in different dimensions (chasing after a sane joker)and one of those was Arkham Batman who explained what the knightfall protocol was for those who still didn’t get it (that he faked his death so he can protect people)

Yeah the racetracks were awful. But I hated these riddles where you have to make a picture of something the most! For example the Solomon Grundy Easter Egg or the Calendar Man room.

I beat Arkham Asylum 100% because those riddles were fun and quick to solve.
Same with Arkham City, riddles were fun to find and actually had stakes.
Arkham Knight, tho? Fuck that shit. Already saved Catwoman so Rocksteady needs to calm their Ubisoft open world mechanics the fuck down.
After seeing how Rocksteady BRUTALLY did Batman dirty by stupidly killing him off like a fucking dog, I came back to watch this scene to rinse my eyes and remind me how this ending is THE ONLY true ending of the Arkham series. What Rocksteady did in the latest game they released today for early access is not forgivable. We've all been playing with the same guy for literally 15 years, and they gave us the absolute worst stupidest send off for Conroy's LAST performance as Batman. Fucking unbelievable.
If it helps. We all felt the same way for Christopher Reeve's last Superman film.
And the original people who was in Rocksteady to finish the Arkham trilogy even left and replaced by woke people who is still fangirling of Harley Quinn! I'd rather have Batman in that game got eaten by King Shark, I know that sounds ridicullous but it's better than getting shot by Harley, right? But they also make King Shark look softer in that game!

I just finished the game with Knightfall Protocol and you can either defeat Deathstroke or Riddler and it will let you do the Knightfall Protocol. I think Rocksteady realized people aren't going to want to do all those Riddler stuff so they gave you the option

You know, that actually sounds like what Joe Chill, the guy who sometimes is the one who killed Bruce's folks, depending on continuity, said in that one Gaiman Batman from the mid 2000's. Something like "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"
He showed up at Bruce's funeral and said, and I don't know the quote, but "I was here for his birth, it's only fitting I should be here for his death."

Mr. Excellent yeah but Knight still made a ton of references to Origins. So it's the same timeline. In the evidence room at the GCPD, you can find Electrocutioner's gloves and Cash says that "Batman used them for a bit before handing them in"
Also, Deathstroke talks about last time they met and he is basically talking about Origins.

That "new batman" in Knightfall was the same as the one that was in scarecrows hallucination after batman gave him the fear toxin. Simple explanation to EVERYTHING.
• scarecrow injects Bruce with fear toxin, Bruce's biggest fear is joker, becoming like him, becoming a killer. hence where u shoot up people and ruin Gotham as joker, and u come back to scarecrow as joker as Bruce has now become him (Bruce Wayne is gone now)
• scarecrow injects him (now joker mentality) again and so we're taken to jokers biggest fear, which is being forgotten and batman, hence the empty funeral and batman statues he can't get away from, joker now becomes his fear; batman
• scarecrow injects batman with the fear toxin, but batman has no fear, he is a myth, a legendary fearless hero, hence why he still talks as batman and not Bruce for the rest of the game, Bruce is gone, it's just batman now
• (this part is up to opinion) I like to believe that batman faked the death of bruce Wayne to protect his family and to allow batman to carry out his mission fully and not be held back by Bruce, and that's who we see at the end, using a version of the fear toxin
• or it was a metaphor at the end to symbolise that batman is back either with a robin as batman or a Bruce Wayne batman that faked his death

The background music in this scene is just perfect. It really hammers home the fact that these are both Bruce Wayne AND Batman's final moments. It honestly brings a tear to my eye.
The Batman we see at the end is Bruce. Pause at exactly 5:12 you see a image of the person clearly, it is Bruce still using a modified Fear Toxin to make himself appear as a demon. SPOILERS!!!!!
After you save Catwoman from Riddler and catch him Batman says the following when asked if she will see him again
" No- No one will. Gotham needs something more, something worse... to defend her. She needs a new myth, a new legend more powerful then I can be right now. A legend that can only rise from the ashes of Batman. " Meaning that The Knightfall protocool was designed to expose himself as Batman then "die" in public and a few weeks later that thing more powerful will rise from the ashes of Batman. Bruce is now Batman Full time and uses a modified version of Scarecrow's fear toxin to make himself appear as if he is a demon while not killing the individual(in some other media's Batman has used a modified form of the Fear Toxin, it still kept it's effect but wasn't lethal

Sooo, the moral is basically that Batman's mere existence was holding everyone he loved back and making their lives miserable and that Bruce's apparent demise and the end of Batman made his friends lives better because he wasn't a part of them? that's...depressing.
What I think about that is Batman had a purpose, to cleanse Gotham of its crime and corruption. With all of that cleaned up at the end, there was no point to him fighting anymore because without crime, there would be no Batman. It's almost like (religious reference) his time is up after doing what he needed. Then again, we could argue that crime will rise again which is where Azrael came in to carry the torch. With that, we can think of it as the start of a new generation. Bruce Wayne was finished as Batman, crime is gone, his generation ends and the start of a new one begins with Azrael. I hope that makes sense XD

Had to come back here to see my cannon ending to the Arkham verse after watching what they did to the character in the suicide game. This is definitely the ending the Dark Knight deserves.
It may have been the same company. And the Wikipedia pages may say it's cannon. But the founders and makers of Rocksteady that made this amazing series weren't there to make that Suicide Squad game.
So take comfort that the makers intended for this to be Batman's true send off and nothing can take that from him.
To me it's like Beethoven making the 9th Symphony and then some new composer comes into his opera house, uses his business name and makes a 10th Symphony and calling it a continuation of someone's creation without the original creator.
This will always be Batman's send off because the Suicide Squad game is so inconsistent with this. It might as well be considered a rated R Disney Direct Sequel.

243 cancerous and painfully unfun riddler puzzles to not only fight and defeat the riddler but to get the ending of the game. This isn't just a quick 5 second scene like in mass effect when Shepard breathes under a pile of rubble. It's the literal fucking ending to the game. I would of been fine with doing all the other tedious shit too, I did most of it, but I'd rather die then spend hours and hours collecting those riddles. Shame the vast majority of players never got to see the full ending. Awful decision from the devs.
