It doesn't make sense you compare countries that are not independent with independent countries. Puerto Rico, for example, can be bailed out by the rich and powerful United States. For instance, they were bailed out when they were hit by a hurricane a few years ago. A Trinidad or Jamaica, for example, does not have that support system. Also, you seemed to have conflated exportation with industrialization! For instance, while Haiti exports more than some other Caribbean countries, there are hardly any signs of industrialization in that country because of rampant corruption and mismanagement. In other words, the money earned from the export of goods is not invested in the country or the people.

My question is if the Caribbean is doing so well why are still so many poor people without jobs, that they are all moving away to other countries? Please do a series on that
The same reason every other people around the world move away to other countries: capitalism and uneven distribution of wealth.
inequality
Inequality, nepotism, corruption, and lack of diversity, just some of the key factors that is required for capitalism to keep working.
The same thing happens in the US......
Corruption
One Caribbean! We have to fight for regional integration under one flag, one market economy, while keeping everything that makes each island unique. Its a clear road to economic prosperity if we unite. Stronger together.
Honestly! I was shocked to see Haiti in this list, especially in the top five but I’ll do some more research to confirm it.
If only St Lucian leaders focused on INDUSTRY instead of petty politics, and tourism. The capacity is there, as we have a lot of wastage of agricultural products, but they do not FOCUS on what INDUSTRY is all about - especially AGRO INDUSTRIES.
I am happy that "Jirie Caribbean Blog" took the time out to produce this eye opening blog. I hope the powers that be in smaller islands "wake up and smell the STRONG coffee". I always maintain that agriculture is KING and QUEEN of an island economy: not only for food, but for medicines, housing, textiles, condiments, and the list is endless etc. Some of the smaller islands could even partner to be a thriving production company.

I am amazed with Haiti, so why is it considered the poorest Country in the Western hemisphere?
Haiti is not poor per sé. It's just that the wealth is not equally distributed to the majority.
We are the poorest country in per capita, but we are still the 4th largest GDP and manufacturing base in the Caribbean
