They all were invited to join the EC when it was created. The slightly larger islands like Jamaica and Haiti rejected the idea and they are suffering the consequences economically for that right now. All the Caribbean islands would’ve had the same dollar and thus trade among the islands would have been more seamless and function as one economy. The EC islands have been some of the strongest independent countries for decades now.

Barbados has been able to maintain a reasonable standard of living for its citizens despite being a so called third world country and only having tourism to rely on now. When the USD tanks as is predicted no doubt most countries on earth will be impacted. As for now and historically Barbados has been able to maintain its economic strength in the islands. This in part is reflected in the strength of its currency. This my 2 cents 😁

Yes, most of the Caribbean islands should’ve been part of the eastern Caribbean currency. Thus they all would’ve function as one giant economy. Countries like Haiti, Jamaica, and Guyana would’ve had much more stable economies.

Even though Guyana and Jamaica statistically have the weakest currencies in the Caribbean, I find it interesting that they are both experiencing an explosion in their economies, and could change the tides in how they effect the Caribbean. Which is interesting because having a currency fixed to the US dollar does not always mean the country's economy is a strong one.
