    The pastry in the bag is called Kürtöskalacs. It's a traditional pastry comes from the Székely region of Transylvania, which was once a part of Hungary. It dates back to 1679. Kürtőskalács is made from sweet, yeasted dough of which strips are wrapped around a cone then baked on a spit, and rolled in sugar and optionally other toppings. It's also served as ice cream cone in the summer or a cone filled with fruits and whipped cream. You can find in other regions because it's so delicious, and much like pastries like fánk (doughnuts) has immigrated to other countries.
    Krémes is another traditional Hungarian cake that has immigrated to other countries. It's called Krempita in the Baklans and Cremeschnitte in Austria.

So, after the Empire broke up and all the newly created countries kept Chimney Cake . Its like Börek. Congrats on the good pronunciation!
    Supplement:
    Paprika: Abroad, only the ground used as a spice is called this. In Hungary, both the plant and its fruit.
    Since it was about halal and I understand that pork is prohibited.
    Its consumption is common here, if it is not mentioned separately, they will definitely give you this kind of meat.
    It didn't cause a problem for you, but it might be important for someone else.
    Pig is a disznó in Hungarian. Disznótor is dinner after the animal has been processed. Disznótoros is the food eaten at this time. The urban version is a hurka and sausage with steamed cabbage and boiled potatoes.
    At 3:38, the brown is the hurka of the red sausage.
    Stuffed cabbage: there are many variations. Interesting fact: Hungarian stuffed foods (cabbage, paprika) are derived from Turkish stuffed grape leaves. There is also a special type of paprika grown for this purpose. This can be found under the name TV. (It's not television, it's short for Tölteni Való in english for a sutffed) This is a large, long cone-shaped, thick fleshy yellowish-white variety. I think this is known as Hungarian Wax elsewhere.

    Budapest is a city known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and delicious cuisine. Let's explore some local Hungarian dishes and treats.
    Goulash (Gulyás): Start your culinary journey with a classic Hungarian dish - Goulash. This hearty soup/stew typically consists of meat (often beef), vegetables, and paprika, creating a flavorful and comforting meal.
    Langos: A popular street food in Hungary, Langos is deep-fried flatbread usually topped with sour cream, garlic, and cheese. It's a savory treat that's both delicious and indulgent.
    Chimney Cake (Kürtőskalács): For dessert, try Kürtőskalács, a sweet, spiral-shaped pastry. It's made from sweet dough, rolled in sugar and other toppings, then baked until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
    Fisherman's Soup (Halászlé): Since Budapest is situated along the Danube River, don't miss the opportunity to try Fisherman's Soup. It's a spicy fish soup with a rich broth, often featuring various freshwater fish.
    Töltött Káposzta (Stuffed Cabbage): Experience the flavors of traditional Hungarian comfort food with Töltött Káposzta. It consists of cabbage leaves stuffed with a mixture of meat, rice, and spices, then simmered to perfection.
    Rakott Krumpli: This is a layered potato casserole with eggs, sausage, and sour cream. It's a hearty and satisfying dish that showcases the influence of different cultures on Hungarian cuisine.
    Dobos Torte: Finish your meal with a slice of Dobos Torte, a famous Hungarian layer cake. It consists of sponge cake layers with chocolate buttercream and a crunchy caramel top layer.
    Hungarian Wines: Pair your meals with some Hungarian wines, as the country has a rich tradition of winemaking. Tokaj is particularly renowned for its sweet wines.
    I hope you enjoy these culinary delights in Budapest!

    Sorry for a bit long comment, but I think you have went plenty of "touristy places", and skipped an important element of any gastro tour: visiting places actually favored by locals. Also even in very touristy places I would suggest trying Halászlé too.
    Of course the "places favored by locals" often has very different places.
    Rétisas Vendéglő was famous even at their old place, but that building was in bad condition, so they had to move. Even if their new place is harder to reach they are still a popular place, but getting there can be a bit harder. Warning: Some of their signature dishes come in huge portions. But it is a "mom and pop family restaurant" type place...
    There are other places like Trófea Újbuda. The Trófea chain is split into 2 parts as the owners disagreed on a few things. 3 units are well loved by many people, and the Újbuda one is often favored by the people who work in nearby offices. It is an all you can eat type restaurant, with most of the advantages and some of the disadvantages of this formula. Some of their dishes are international, but they also have a few more traditional Hungarian food. The other 2 good units are the Óbuda one, and the Zugló one... They are easy to reach, but they are often full (so a reservation might be necessary). They are popular for a reason.
    There are Hungarian fast food chains, like Zing burger...
    On the other side of the spectrum there are a few fine dining places recommended by Michelin guide, etc.

      @@BeryIstanbulTips I really like Estonia, so I move here from Italy. But please come in summer! I was in Istanbul in september and when I came back home I'm freezing. I left 28 degrees in Turkiye at 6 in the morning and I find 4 degrees in Tallinn at 5 pm. And in winter there are very few hours of sun 🤣

    • @BeryIstanbulTips
      @BeryIstanbulTips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I don’t know, you need to ask wherever you eat. Remember that these countries are NOT MUSLIM, so probably most might not follow your traditions or techniques.

    • @tamaslukacs3173
      @tamaslukacs3173 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible that they will not know what halal means. The connection with Jewish culture is common, but the majority are not aware of their religious regulations. There is not even that much connection with the Muslim religion.
      I only know about it because I asked someone who is aware of both.
      One more thing. Pork consumption is common in Hungary. As far as I know, their consumption is forbidden for both Jews and Muslims. Eating pork probably has something to do with the 150 years of Ottoman rule. But this is now history, the people living today can't help it.

      True, same in most European countries, just make sure to ask for chicken, beef, or even fish, but always double check to make sure is not pork ❤️
