You are correct. With a machine, there is always a possiblity of a failure regardless of what machine you have. Of course, an animal will not die if it misses a meal or two, but I would still have someone check on an animal a couple days a week just to be sure. Not only to check feeder, but just because who knows what the animal may have gotten into. A feeder is to assist you not to replace you. :) It sure is nice not having to wake up in the night to feed the hungry monster!
Thanks! For those who have digital timers: We should have a video on how to program those in the near future. A video is worth a thousand words. I believe it will always be better than written instructions regardless of how well it's written. Now that you have watched the video, I assume it is very simple. Often people think it's difficult until they understand how it operates and it really is easy. :) Glad to have help.
soo true. and the fact is set up looks like much more work then it really is, and once set you basicaly just leave it alone unless feeding changes or like me you now have more cats since the last time you did the programing... but then there is youtube, open up this vido and have step by step instructions about changing the setting, sure i could do it without but this makes it just that much more simple. i trust this feeder, for me has never faile nore has cat stolen food from it. owned 2+years

This is a great feeder. I've had one for 5 years and a second for 3 years, and they both still work perfectly. I use SureFlap RFID reading cat doors with the feeders in small glass doored ikea cabinets to separate the cats food so they can be properly portion controlled. With frequent small feedings, I've managed to get my once 18lb cat down to a healthy 13lbs, helping to prevent quite a few obesity related illnesses.
This is an excellent feeder & easy to assemble from shipping box to final install. Video step-by-steps it perfectly.
Highly recommend this product to all pet owners. It really saves you lots of time in feedings, whether you are at home
or away on a mini vacation. Also have given this as a gift to family members and they love it as much as I do. Thanks!

This is the first feeder (out of 3 in the past 2 years) that is consistent and does not give out food when a determined cat bangs it around :) This is well worth the price. It has out lasted our other feeders and I didn't have to put a whole bunch of home made modifications on it to keep our cat from getting extra food.
Also, if it should ever have something break on it, all parts are replaceable! What more can you ask for? ;)

lazycat21 your right you can buy a cheaper unit, key word cheaper and it works out to be about half the price of this one that many then give in and go buy. the other feeders at lowest setting would over feed my cat if set to twice a day like he is used to (and feeding him like normal while away is the whole point of having a feeder for me) the other feeders can also be hacked by the cat if he really wants more food and is food driven like mine (who is a healthy weight).

Exactly, using the rain gutter is the best idea. This will keep raccoons from playing around with the chute opening or breaking something. I would just try it first to see if ants get into it. If they do then mount it to a pole that is attached to the house wall. The vaseline will keep them off. Again, if you know for sure you have foxes and raccoons then you "must" use rain guttering or chicken wire to in-case the feeder, or they will keep playing around with it.

This feeder is a very nice and versatile product, one of the better ones I've seen. I have a concerns pertaining to all automatic feeders as well as fountains. The 'what IF' scenario ... you leave you pets home alone for an extended period of time ... say weekend which lapses into a week or while away something happens (the thoughts and possibilities are endless) ... see what I'm concerned with? What would be your suggestions prior? (and we all know pets need to be attended regardless)?
More difficult to assemble than it looks. Tho there are quite a few steps/parts, the video makes it pretty easy to do. Took me about 1/2 hour, but I'm not mechanical at all!
It really all depends on how you hang it and the condition. If you are talking about sitting it outside under the carport on the ground with its indoor stand then yes, ants would get it. I would hang it on a pole and wipe vaseline on the pole. The vaseline will stop the ants. I have not heard of roaches or flies getting into it. I would be more concerned about raccoons. You should protect it from any wild animal with some type of chicken wire so that they won't mess with it.
I saw the setup with the 4 foot section of metal rain gutter drain that looked good. I wonder if that is slippery enough inside to hinder ants trying to venture up. Hanging the 1.8 gallon reservoir on the house wall in the carport would keep it out of the reach of raccoons and foxes which do frequent our vicinity.
What about the ants and roaches? If you leave it outside in your covered carport will it allow ants to climb up into the food reservoir? Ants, roaches, and flies love cat food.

You obviously have not had a super feeder or know anything about it. Just read reviews of each.... that's all I ask.
Too complicated to setup, too expensive for simple function. You can buy better function product with low-price. I like Petmate Le Bistro Portion-Control Automatic Pet Feeder better.
