I like the idea of a good sounding 3.5 EB. Pretty sure the GTR has a Y pipe from the downpipes and a single large exhaust pipe till the end where there’s another y pipe for dual exhaust. Bet that wouldn’t sound bad and would be closer to the GTR sound
What I believe we are missing, once the catts and resonator are gone, are 3 inch down pipes. We've 2.5" for days and I think it contributes to the rasp and "nasal" resonance of our setups. I'm catless, 2.5 down to 3 inch pipes back into a resonated Magnaflow x-pipe 3- inch pipes to Varex adjustable exhaust. I'm going to build 3 inch down pipes and see how much that opens up. Keep going man. Really like what I see here. Also, excellent name. From one "Bro" to another.
I'm sure 3 inch DPs would give a deeper tone for sure. I'm exploring the possibility of creating a tuned exhaust set up in addition to my current idea. A professionally built piece is something that I would like to do soon to get the fitment right. And thanks for the support! I do really appreciate it! 😁👍
A v6 will just never have that full sound a v8 with the extra pistons. I have owned 2 grand prix gxps and now own a 2013 SHO.. I like the sho more driving wise but I absolutely miss that low rumble of gxp
I have the 2015 SHO PP. I have deleted the resonator and the mufflers and straight piped it all the way out, leaving the cats till I can get a cat back system. And yes they make a SHO without PP (performance package).
I had that piece remade professionally using 304 stainless steel. Sounded better, and definitely looked right! I since sold the SHO but kept that custom x pipe. In a recent video I did, for Fun I loosely adapted that piece to my Cobra and my EcoBoost Mustang. The results were interesting! You should definitely check out that video. 🙂
Keller's point is likely more that those ramps can, and frequently do, collapse entirely. Hint: that is not something jack stands commonly do. Ramps are not intended to replace jack stands for a reason. Mentioning that a jack and a lift can fail isnt relevant either, since a jack should NEVER be relied on to hold a vehicle with you under it, and a lift that is locked in place will not fail unless something incredibly rare and catastrophic happens, and if it isn't locked in place you should never be under the vehicle. You clearly did not know these things 8 months ago, so in the likely event you haven't learned them between then and now, you're welcome, now you know.
nice work! im trying to get my MKS EcoBoost to sound better as well, i agree with the comment about equal length downpipes, i think thats the biggest factor contributing to the sound.
Muffler delete and resonator delete will add a significant amount of volume and turbo noise to the exhaust sound. Doing that usually causes rasp and drone unless that's what you want. You can take that over the top with a set of downpipes. If you a more refined sound, a full cat back system might get you a better result. Alternatively, a resonator delete with a decent set of straight thru mufflers will give you volume and help with the rasp and drone. Other options are combining both banks into a large single pipe and running a single exit boom tube, or muffler. More so, you could split the large single pipe back to smaller dual pipes for a factory dual exhaust. Lastly you could replicate my exhaust. Someone did their own version of my rear X Pipe with the rest of the system straight Piped. It's one of the most aggressive sounding SHO's I've heard.
You should make sure it's all dual piping from the cats on back and do resonator delete and in place put a dual x pipe set up and take off that over complicated rear exhaust set up
Exhausts made from titanium will have a more exotic sound- Something about how the sound reverberates (sp?) No cats or resonators will definitely change the tone as well as make it extremely loud lol
Yup. Different materials have different resonance characteristics. The type of metal, thickness, diameter, length, transitions, configuration, all contribute to the tone and overall sound of an exhaust. The list of different ways to alter the exhaust note is extensive. May I say it can even be, exhausting... 😁
Thanks! You know I didn't pay attention to the drone. It does drone but at a higher RPM now. I think before with just the muffler delete it would drone badly around 2k RPM. Now I think it's around 2.5k that the drone occurs. I actually have an update video that I will upload soon to this. Exciting project for sure!
Before the the x pipe I had a muffler delete only. Factory exhaust all the way to the turbos. Same thing with the x pipe. The x pipe just replaces the mufflers.
I had catless downpipes and muffler delete and it sounded great until you hit 3k rpm then It sounds a clapped out Honda civic put mufflers on and still have that rasp
Can you post it all on the SHO Forum? At least the video. We SHO owners would love to have a tutorial. For the time being I just have H&R Springs, resonator delete, and K&N Filter & CAI on my 2016. Doesn't sound too bad, but who knows? Do the upgrades ever end?
The car was tuned, but I don't think it had anything to do with the 2 step like sound you hear. Maybe the tune helped accentuate the sound. But it was just bouncing off the Rev limiter. I think that was somewhere around 5k RPMs.
What does the x pipe do for the exhaust on a SHO exactly ? I’m looking at getting the magma flow muffler with an x pipe in it for where my resonator went.
In a traditional setup much like how your setup will be, adding a X pipe tends to create a more aggressive, raspy and higher pitch exhaust. How I did it changed the sound charismatics slightly more and gives a more unique tone similar to that of a ecoboost Ford GT.
To get it to sound like a gtr or a Ford gt, the downpipes must be very close to the same length. I don’t know how an sho is configured, but I know there’s one turbo on the front, and one on the rear. I’m assuming the rear downpipe is nowhere near as long as the one coming from the front turbo. Find a way to make them equal length, and you’ll have the sound you’re looking for. I’ve been hoping someone would do this!
That's actually a really good point! I didn't take the equal length DP's into consideration. Once I get the rear section done, I will work on the mid section. Now I think I'll do my best to incorporate an extension on bank 1 down pipe to get it even.
@@KarzKreated it’ll definitely get you what you’re after. Everyone assumes x pipes equalize the exhaust enough to make up for the difference in downpipe length, but they don’t. With your exhaust exactly as it is now, just doing equal length downpipes WILL get the gtr sound. Ecoboost f150’s could do the same thing, but I doubt most of their owners would like that sound coming from a truck. All ecoboosts sound like towels flapping in the wind to me. This would fix that 👍🏻

The only exhaust mod I have currently is my custom rear X Pipe. Everything else is as it was from Ford. The most simple and cost effective sound mod is just to delete the mufflers. Gives enough sound to make you smile but not annoyingly loud. The only problem with muffler deletes is interior drone.
