Dominic this is the best Barbour Bedale review on the internet, very well put together (much like the jacket). The perfect combination of humour, information and style.

Great review and delivery. Edutainment. The analogies and description are spot on ("utility of a bag sewn into a jacket" "pockets I never knew I needed...turn your jacket into a lounge chair...T-Rex British gentleman" "something made to be a tool and somehow became luxury Rolex"). Loved the dry humor ("pockets perfect because I always keep bags of water on me" "Barbour gotch you" - said by no one at heritage HQ. "Do your own research but know 'it big'"). Perfect understandable, relatable summary with wanting a patchy Barbour...that's exactly what this jacket is. It has history, character, is trusted, utilitarian, sustainable, understated luxury (Rolex Explorer I please). Well done. (Is that a Nakashima coffee table?)
Thank you! That table was made by me with the help of Matt Castilleja - he did the hard part; the legs. Definitely inspired though (I was on a big Nakashima kick at the time) mattcastilleja.com
After having the Barbour Ogston in olive for a year by now I recently got the Bedale in Bark to differentiate the 2. With Ogston I can only wear a vest if I want to layer but the bedale I can wear a full sleeve sweater including the liner which I got for $50 off & I’ll just leave it in for warmth. The Ogston is my go to winter jacket for a while when it’s not snowing while the bedale might be a warmer winter or early spring jacket for where I live. Ever since I saw it during ‘the crown’ series I just fell in love with the aesthetic & happy to have 2 for now along with a scarf from them.
@@dominicscalise The Ogston is my first Barbour jacket so it’s has its place but the major complaint I had was the sleeve being polyester so it makes my arms sweat, I heard Barbour can change the sleeve lining to cotton, might give it a shot in the future, fits closer to the body, nice jacket when I pick it up before inflation hit.
Was always on the fence about getting one but after seeing your video I decided to bite the bullet and finally buy it. Gotta say, you're on point. Thanks, I look forward to you influencing my future purchases.
Just bought my first Barbour jacket, a navy Bedale, a couple of days ago. I have blue eyes and my other clothing matches better with the blue tone, so I went with the navy version. It feels like such a solid piece of clothing and looks very good too. I spent the last days in Brussels were it was raining a lot and it did a great job at keeping me warm and dry.
Agree with the comment this is the best review. Absolute love the humour 👏. I currently have an Ashby but looking at this now as in the winter I’d like to use it as a shell with my down jacket on underneath. So thank you for this. I will be popping to the shops tomorrow to try one on. Thank you again 👍
I shoot sporting clays, and use the pockets for shotgun shells. That's why they're there! Bedale... fantastic jacket in many ways. Comfortable, looks great, functional, durable. I'm a 44 Slim in a suit/sport coat. I went with Size 40 in the Bedale.
I love your review, it turned into my comfort watch on TH-cam. And thank you for looking at my Bedale in a different way. Every time I hear the buttons click think, walking asmr👍🏽 Ps:witch color do you have
I have a Barbour Border that is nearly 35 years old, sage green, nineties light green tartan lining, patched to hell and back, STILL the coolest coat I've ever owned, and I'll hand it down to my children.
Already have a olive Ashby and olive Beacon(James bond ) do I need another olive Bedale? Every time I watch this review I feel like pulling the trigger 😀
Can I recommend a coat for you? It is the Cordings field coat in their house check. I have it, and it is absolutely wonderful! They also run quite large and would suggest a size small for you. I can’t describe it, but I feel so incredible wearing it.
Just bought the Bedale in Olive (great by the way). On sizing, I’m a 39” chest, 32” waist and 5ft 7” (yes I’m small), but the point is I got a C32 (40” chest) and it fits perfectly. Enough room for a shirt and mid jumper without feeling tight. The cut/fit are great and It’s no where near as big as people have said( FYI, bought in the UK)
You bought size C32 (40chest) ??? I don’t understand, C32 is like 3xs . 40 chest is medium and falls on C38 or C40. Can you enlighten me about this please.
Hahaha😂 I've got a Bedale, can confirm everything you said. Laughed at your review. Did the youtube thing commented, liked and subscribed. There you go 😂
Hello Dominic. If I may suggest, IMO excellent jacket to add to a collection of iconic garments : Barbour x Baracuta Porton Wax jacket. I guess you probably have some Harrington style jacket/s, probably the original Baracuta G9. But this one is worth checking out. I bough it just yesterday and I am thrilled. If you see value in or like quality craftmanship plus versatility you would buy it even if it is not 100% your style or you have the Bedale :) (I have it too and considering selling it now) I am blown away by it and it suits me just better than Bedale and have similar use for it. Would love to hear you opinion, even more, similar review of Barbour x Baracuta Porton Wax jacket. Cheers!
It is even better once you really see one and put one on. It is not so much Vitsœ shelving, like the Bedale is. It is just iconic jacket. The tartan lining of this jacket is something special.
I have probably seen this review 10 times, it’s that good 😅 It’s also one of the reasons I caved in and finally bought a Bedale jacket. Well, that turned out to be one of the best decisions as it’s probably my favorite jacket I’ve ever purchased. There’s just something undefinable about it that makes it a part of you if that makes sense. Also a big fan of the fit. Thank you for this review!

I have a Beadale as well as twoother Barbours, hint, its a bit common to wear small, imagine you have a big jumper & gilet beneath. If you want pockets buy the Border.
When you say green, you mean sage, right? I'm currently caught up between colours and can't seem to find a specific green mentioned in your video, but instead sage & olive?
Cheers! One more question: is your jacket sylkoil or thornproof? I much prefer the colour of yours in daylight and so I feel that the wax finish may influence the colour slightly @@dominicscalise
@@ConnorRooney1Barbour only do 1 wax which is thornproof. When they talk about the difference between sylkoil and thornproof in terms of the jacket, they’re going on about the cotton and how it’s made etc. His jacket will be thornproof as they only offer a sylkoil jacket in the olive colour. The wax itself is all the same.
Cool video…need more research. Green? Which green? Olive or Sage? Bedale has two fabrics: both 6 oz waxed cotton ( no 8 oz version; that’s the Border style); Silkoil classic, is the Olive version; Thornproof is the Sage version; sizing? Runs big? What are your measurements and what size did you get? That would be more helpful. Again, well editing.
@@dominicscalise I don’t have your editing powers to make my own video. Yours is really good, but my bad for expecting information and not just entertainment. The Barbour sizing seems weird and the colour difference is subtle but it has to do with the type of cotton and wax combo (I didn’t know, but maybe you didn’t either). Cheers.

After months of deciding which Barbour to get I settled on this. Only realised after I got it my olive colour isn’t same as this one but I still love it. Excellent video these reviews are so good Dominic!
Hey Dominic, I loved the review, and I've been eyeballing the Beaufort model for a good while now. I only have one concern that's stopping me from picking it: the color of the original sage and the color of the classic model, which only comes in olive. They look different in almost all the photos and videos, so I can never tell which one I prefer more. I'd pick the original sage, but, like in your video, it sometimes looks almost blue and a little dull, instead of that dark forest green I love. I live abroad where these jackets aren't available to see them in person, sadly. Oh, I almost forgot: I'm a short guy at 169cm/5'6", and I can't quite tell how long the jacket will be on me. I know that I want it to be a little longer than a normal jacket, and that I want it to cover my seat area, but not so long that it'll look like an overcoat. The Bedale looks great on you, but I like the idea of a slightly longer Beaufort for me. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? Because if you're tall, and that's how long the Bedale is on you, I might have to reconsider, hahaha.
The Bedale is shorter than the Beaufort and lacks the game pocket. I went Bedale over the Beaufort because I liked the dryer wax on my Bedale over the wetter feel on the Beaufort and also it was a bit too long and heavier than the Bedale. Ashby is slimmer but longer than Bedale.
They look great, but the big downside with waxed Barbour jackets is they breathe about as well as a garbage bag. I’ve sold all of mine because of it. Still love my old quilted one, 90s cut was so much better than the current.
Shirts are from Gitman Vintage. Great fabric and cuts, but it's the attention to detail on the pattern matching that gets me with them. Sweater is from J Crew. Not as keen on J Crew since Todd Snyder left, but this sweater is solid.
Heeelp i want so bad the bedale but can’t sort the sizing: -height 178cm -weight 80 cm -chest 107cm I was looking To buy it 2 hand but seems like every barbour has its Own mesures. So far I was thinking of a c42 or c44 size (The only jacket I cloud try on was the Ashby in L and it was perfect)

Ashby is slimmer but longer than Bedale.
just got a olive ashby for $100 🤷🏼♂️ couldn’t complain. how do you know when it needs waxing?
I’d say when it starts to lose its wet look
4:39 I do have a question. When are you going to do a video on your bar in the back room?
Thanks for asking! I have quite a few things to add to that dry bar space. Once it's all set, I'll show it. It's gonna be goooood
You missed the best part about the zipper ring. It's a bottle opener! Great review Very funny. Try the Ashby if you want a slimmer fit.
Thanks!
You know that zip pull doubles as a bottle opener? 👍🏻
Hi I'm 1m80 tall and weigh 65kg (5'9, 143lbs), what size should I get? Is 38 too big?
You're probably gonna be a 36 in the Bedale
@@dominicscalise Ah shoot, my dream ebay jacket is a 38
If I’m out and I see someone staring at me I put my hand in my pocket and pull out my middle finger. Been doing it for years. Never gets old. 😄
This was so good :D :D
Thank you!
The big ring allow to operate the zipper with your globes on
What color is your Barbour? Olive or sage?
Sage
Is that a bottle of fernet branca?
It sure is
What size did you get?
They look great, but the big downside with waxed Barbour jackets is they breathe about as well as a garbage bag.
I’ve sold all of mine because of it. Still love my old quilted one, 90s cut was so much better than the current.
where do you get your flannel shirts? and your aran sweater?
Shirts are from Gitman Vintage. Great fabric and cuts, but it's the attention to detail on the pattern matching that gets me with them.
Sweater is from J Crew. Not as keen on J Crew since Todd Snyder left, but this sweater is solid.
Heeelp i want so bad the bedale but can’t sort the sizing:
-height 178cm
-weight 80 cm
-chest 107cm
I was looking To buy it 2 hand but seems like every barbour has its
Own mesures.
So far I was thinking of a c42 or c44 size
(The only jacket I cloud try on was the Ashby in L and it was perfect)
