  • Review and sizing info on the Barbour Bedale, which also goes through why I chose this model over other options. By no means a professional fashion model (lol!) but thought my struggles with sizing might be useful for some.

    Like the change of pace with the Barbour video! I decided to go for one myself earlier this year, went the Ashby though as prefer the slimmer cut. Olive green too, gotta keep it classic. I’m a 38-40 too, but perhaps they don’t do chest sizes in the Ashby because it was a “medium” I ordered, fits me fine. It’s a bit annoying the Ashby isn’t made in England like the others, agreed. Also, I find the zip a bit of a pain to do up. The 40 looks okay on you, the Bedale isn’t meant to be a tailored fit anyway.

    • @TimeandTalk
      @TimeandTalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man, that’s nice of you to say. Yes the Ashby is S, M, L rather than chest sizes. Glad you said that about it not looking too bad, but strictly speaking I think a 38 may have been a better fit. If I ever get a Beaufort I’ll make a comparison. Glad you like the change of pace, as I do want to make a broader range of videos.

    Thanks for your great video and for all the comments, which helped me a lot to find the right size for my Barbour Bedale.
    I have now decided on size 38 for the Barbour Bedale (Thornproof) because I would like to wear several layers (pullover etc.) under the jacket, since it can be very cold here in Austria in the winter. My measurements are 170 cm (5’7’’) 70 kg (11 stone) and my chest is 101 cm (40 inch). I don't want to be stuck in the jacket (too tight ), but still have enough freedom of movement, that fits me perfectly with size 38
    Many Greetings from Austria👍

    I've been thinking of getting a Barbour jacket for a while now and it was between the Bedale and the Beaufort. I decided on the Classic Bedale, I have a 40 inch chest and I'm 5'7' 11 stone-ish. I took your advice and sized down to a 38 and the fit is great and can fit an old berghaus fleece under it for the colder days. I love it. Thanks for the vid, going by your accent I think we both live in the same county, lol.

    I went with a 42 at 5.9“ height and about 195 pounds and it fits quite relaxed. I have broad shoulders and huge legs, so the boxier fit of the Bedale looks quite balanced on me. Also, this makes layering very easy and helps with the breathability of the jacket.

    I own the Ashby and the Bedale, which are two different beasts. The Bedale to me need to be a little bit oversized (I wear 42) about the Ashby (I wear XL). The chest measure on Ashby is 24 in ( armpit to armpit and feels close to the chest) the Bedale is 25,5 in (armpit to armpit). The design and the purpose are entirely different; the Ashby is a casual urban style with a slim cut, and the Bedale it the primary purpose is for riding (shorter sleeves compared with the Ashby) and more room for movement and layer up. In your case, the Bedale is the right fit. Otherwise, the pick is Ashby. I use Bedale when I go for a walk in the countryside, which I love, and when I move around the city, I wear the Ashby (it looks more stylish).

      This is helpful to me. I have Ashby XL and was wondering what size Bedale would be a wise choice. And without having an easy way of trying, I'll just try the 42. Btw. I, too, agree the Bedale in the video is NOT too big. It's not so much a looker jacket as it is functional (the function here not being "being a looker") :).

    The G9 jacket looks great on you. The Bedale looks too short in length in the body but probably better for riding. But if your not a horse or motorcycle guy, the choice would be a matter of style rather than function. I think the Beaufort is the more versatile of the 2 and would look better on you and the only other consideration is if you ever intend to wear a tailored jacket underneath or not. Both are great jackets but the Beaufort would have been my 1st choice.

    After more than a year now, how do you feel in the jacket? did you wear in it and has a better fit now? or do you still think that 38 would have been a better choice? I have the same measurements as you and feel that did the same mistake. The 40 feels huge on me.

    • @TimeandTalk
      @TimeandTalk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, I like the size. For the Barbour, I kind of like the baggier look, and it makes layering really easy. I tried a 38 on, and it was fitted, almost too fitted. However, what I would probably do is buy a 38 in a different model, and have both. I think sizing is difficult though if you are choosing between 2, and a lot of the time is about personal preference and how you generally wear your clothes.

    What are the modern Bedales like compared to the Ashby, size wise ??
    My 1988 Bedale is 42" but a bit big as I never wear more than a tshirt underneath.
    I have a Ashby in an M and an Ashby lightweight in a L which are a better fit.

    • @TimeandTalk
      @TimeandTalk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I would imagine that a 42 would be too big if you wear a medium Ashby. I think an Ashby medium would fit me like a 38. That is what the Beaufort in 38 fit like if I remember correctly.

    I’m about 5’10-5’11 190 pounds broad build. You think the Beaufort would be too long since I would be a bigger size in comparison to most 5’10ish men? Or maybe the extra length will help lengthen my wide frame haha. Perhaps I just get the bedale in my correct size and it’ll fit like a Beaufort

    • @TimeandTalk
      @TimeandTalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I can tell the Beaufort is not much longer than the bedale. Do you mean the border?

    • @TimeandTalk
      @TimeandTalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just checked. Yes it is about 3 inches longer across the sizes. But if you’re sizing up you shouldn’t worry about that altering the length as the length only changes by 1 inch across the whole range of sizes. That probably why for an extremely tall person a border may end up fitting like a bedale.
