Hi, guys! Nice video. I also watched the other one Miko did about the International Union Jack one. I'm looking at getting a Barbour Bedale to use the way I use my Gore-Tex: a stand-along jacket on semi-cool days, but a shell with liners underneath when it gets colder. I also ride a motorcycle around the city (not at high speeds out on the highway for long distances, though). I was wondering how the Bedale would work on a motorcycle, if either of you ride. My main concern is if the collar flaps around much, and how much wind protection the collar provides when snapped up. Any thoughts on that? I'm asking about the Bedale because I'm not sure if many of the International jackets are available where I am. Thanks!
The olive looks abit dark, I tried on Ashby today size medium it fits well, but I think I want the bedale wud the size be simpler to Ashby? I can’t find a bedale to try on so will need to order online
Question I have that isn't really covered in any reviews (since i'm unable to actually find any in store to try): how tough does the outer shell feel? One of the reasons I fell in love with canvas was a 10oz duck jacket i have that just feel bombproof, like i could hike through the jungle and it'd just shrug off the dirt and thorns. My worry is about 2 things: The fabric on this is only 6oz which is quite a bit lighter, idk if that makes a difference to the rough feel of the outside (it may not), and the sylkoil finish i've heard, due to the way the cotton is finished it can feel less "everything proof" than the thornproof finish jackets. Now ofc, it's not gonna be as heavy as 10oz duck jacket i have, but how much worse will it feel? I'm just afraid it's going to feel as flimsy as my $100 polyster "puffy"
Hey buddy! I don't have any experience with 10oz fabric, i bet that must be super tough and heavy. I do have a 8oz Northumbria and an 8oz Lutz, and yes, you do notice a very slight difference in weight and feel between 6oz and 8oz. But i wouldn't call the 6 flimsy, especially after it's seen some wear time. Barbour makes a Thornproof bedale as well. 👍🏼
Yes the 6oz will feel lighter but the only difference is the look of the weave/colour rather than anything else because they are both waxed using the same type of wax. The sylkoil is the original way unshorn cotton and known as the classic. I have both Sylkoil and a thornproof, the only noticeable difference is one looks more Matt being the sylkoil and the thornproof has a gloss like appearance. Now I have had my wax jackets for 20 -30 plus years and they are worn daily, I have been through hedges and all sorts. Riding and keeping a small holding has put these jackets through their paces. Only time I have ripped my jacket is because I hadn’t rewaxed it. (Beaufort) and I bought that second hand back in 1997 and wore that up until 4-5 years ago when middle age spread caught up with me. I re Wax my jackets every couple of years because I prefer the lived in look and why I prefer the classic because that has a nice rustic colour like a greeny brown rather than the drab olive green colour of the thornproof. At the end of the day it is about personal preference but these jackets are in their element up here in Scotland and add in a liner then you’ll be fine in the colder months. I alternate between a light quilted liner for autumn and a acrylic fur liner for the winter (the original Barbour liner imo) personally I prefer the Bedale I have an original Bedale thornproof which I was bought when I was 12 years old and the 4 flap pocket which stopped being made in 1989 so has had some stick and I now have a “newer” bedale classic had this one for around 5 years but I am shorter height so this jacket doesn’t look too long on me, and the only thing the Beaufort is handy for is the poachers pocket at the back you can carry the hood in it or the townies will carry the Sunday newspaper home in it. At the end of the day there is a Barbour jacket for everyone, try one and you will see the charm of them and why we don’t want to part with our trusty Barbour.

Great demo. Question: when you had your sleeves lengthened, did they also adjust the cuff length along with the sleeves, and was there an extra seam created?
