Romania in 1990 after communism was totally down. Bucharest was full of homeless people, orphans, pickpocketters and dogs. Today it is changed, although we still deal with some gypsy gangs and the dogs. But we have fixed the first 2 problems almost entirely, crime is also highly reduced. The food in Bucharest is great, the internet is probably the fastest in Europe, AIRBNB is very good, Glovo, Panda, Uber Eats and the others are highly competitive. You can find the biggest brands but that's really not such a big deal. WE HAVE A FERRARI SHOP IN BUCHAREST, the only in Eastern Europe alongside Moscow. Plus there are currently 3 stadiums under construction, but you can visit giant Arena Nationala. I highly recommend, you don't have such a stadium in New Zealand. And compared to Eastern Europe, the restaurants are great in Romania. Plus if you go to Hungary, they have many own supermarkets, instead of the international chains found in Romania. Romania is one of the most Americanised countries in the East. Greetings
Look, some doctors are recommending water from the tap. It's not bad, it's just a myth, but it has enough chlorine. Many are still drinking it, but since we have good and a lot of waters, not those that you bought though (don't buy cheap water - the best is Bucovina, Dorna, Borsec or Aqua Carpatica), we can buy it. Still, it's not as cheap as in Hungary the Romanian water but I haven't drink water from the tap since about more than 20 years now. Just if I am playing football or something I am. The Romanian language sounds kind of like a mix of Portuguese and Italian with some Slavic and French influence. But I personally think the closest language to Romanian is a dialect spoken in south-eastern Switzerland called "Romansh". Even the name is similar. I was baffled the first time when I've heard that language and I realized I kind of understood most of it. Words are very similar and they also mean the same thing as in Romanian. It's pretty insane, considering Romania had nothing to do with Switzerland throughout history, as far as I know at least.
@@LanaTiare Well, I've read that Romansh was a dialect spoken in some parts of the Roman empire. But history is pretty fuzzy in Europe, especially in the eastern part of it, so I couldn't find exactly why it sounds so similar to Romanian.
@@LanaTiare Don't worry, you couldn't have known, since those aren't the official numbers. Officially, there are 2.15 mil living in BC, but there is a big amount of people (students, people from other cities that came to work in BC etc.) that don't have their residence set in BC. Last year, the Prefect of Bucharest came out and said there were around 2.5 mil people living in BC at that time. But if we keep in mind that because of the pandemic schools (universities included) have been closed and also many people lost their jobs, we can assume that they may have left the city and went home, that meaning the real numbers during "normal" conditions could be much higher, that's why it is so insanely crowded. I live in Constanța. It's the biggest city by the black sea. Constanța it's a resort city because of the sea and it also gets INSANELY crowded during the summer when tourists come here. I hate it, lol.
@@LanaTiare The best time to visit Bucharest, I think, it is in the summer because many of the residents go on vacations to the mountains or to the seaside, also students go home, so it will be less crowded, but the downside is that it can get REALLY hot, like 35-40 degrees celsius.

Guess for me the winter in Romania will be really warm like in the autumn, cause when I compare the winter in my country the winter is -45, the romanian weather will be too mild for me. Next year I move to my bf to Bucharest and study there. Hope I'll like it and feel like at home, Bucharest reminds me on average city in my homecountry and I think the mentality of people is the same like by us
It will be great if Bucharest had 1.8. When we got the regions from around Bucharest and the metropolitan zone, we get about double of that sum, witch is verry bad for our City.
@@LanaTiare Is not the biggest Capital, but is quite crowded. Bucharest in past 10 years absorbe some rural vilages from his foreshigt so that villages were 20.000 people in 2007 and now there are over 300.000 in that area + 1.8 milion in Bucharest, so is quite crowded in term of population.
@@LanaTiare Yes, unfortunately that cause a supra-population of the zone. The Public transport can't cover all zone and the amount of people that Work in the Center of the town, The Subway does not cover those area and the traffic is jammed like hell. But in other terms, is a Beautiful City with Beautiful Night Life and a lot to see. Hope you'll come in the summer time because our seaside is marvelous.
oh, be damn sure I'm gonna watch your entire playlist. Watching foreigners discover Romania is so fascinating for us. I don't know, but it just is. Also, I've never met a New Zealander before, we've never had any quarrel with a NZ in our past, so we're good. On the contrary, actually, I already like you. You're such a sweet and well mannered woman, and you can never have enough of that :) And yeah, don't drink tap water. You've probably left our country and this fact is useless, but if you return to us in the future make sure you stay away from tap water in urban areas. On the countryside - which I HIGHLY recommend you do a tour about next time you're here - you can literally drink from rivers and wells, and whatnot cause the water is usually safe, especially in the mountain-y areas, maybe less on the plains (in S-SW Romania where I live, for example). Ok, these being said... time to resume the watching. Your boyfriend is a lucky dude to have your company...
Hello! Thanks so much for leaving the kind comments. I enjoyed my time in Romania and would love to come back and see the country side in Spring or Summer. Would love to try the fresh water 😄Thanks for all of the tips! 🙏
Romanian people can learn English easy, since 60% of English vocabulary has Latin origin. I would say that if you are Hungarian, Bulgarian or Serbian it is more difficult for them to learn English. French, Italian people can learn English faster than English can speak Latin origin languages or Romances languages. It seems to be that Vatican also shows in their archive that Romanian language is very much Latin. I am not a historian or researcher.
Valentin Piscu Oh so interesting. Yeah I bet. We found many Romanians knew how to speak English. Bulgarians knew too but not as much as Romania I think.
@@LanaTiare Yes. It's quite easy for Romanians to learn other Romance languages, (like Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese) because they are in the same family of languages, and there is mutual intelligibility to some degree. As Valentin said, Romanians are also very adept at learning and speaking English since English has a lot of Latin in it. Romania ranks 15th in the world in English proficiency, which is higher than France, Italy or Spain by far.

Tap water is good for making food but it doesn't taste good when drinking, not because it has nasty stuff in it, because it has chloride in it so all bacteria are dead. Most people use it like normal water when doing "ciorba" or soup or washing vegetables/fruits or anything else. You can boil it and drink it to avoid chloride taste. This is not chinese water.
1. Taxi is less friendly because some of them can ask for more money than needed if the cronometer is not on. 2. The water is not really ok in bucharest but in the mountain regions is clean and has the same taste as the botteled one. 3. Bucharest is not the best place to visit, you can give it a shot but is not really clean or special and it doesn't reprsent the country as mutch as other cities. 4. Mountain regions are better for tourism , because of the nature, architecture and are less crouded. 5. The best representative places are Brașov, Sibiu, Alba Iulia, Sinaia , Cluj. 6. Romania is very safe in the small cities , bucharest is the most dangerous. In the mountain regions the most dangerous thing to happen is encountering a bear on the street at night. 7. English is our first language to learn in school , and we start to learn it from the kindergarden, but only the younger generation know it better because in the past the schools were teaching russian , german of france

Some tips 1. Dont take a taxi for a long trip if you're a tourist, there are a lot of scammers. 2. Do not, and i repeat do not drink tap water in bucharest, its the worst water in romania, in some other cities its acceptable, but in bucharest, just don't. 3. Stay away from old ladies, they always angry at something =)
OK, so you bought bottled tap water... All joking aside (though that brand might very well be filtered tap water), I drank tap water for the first 18 years of my life. I'm 38 now and since I stopped doing it I've gone from buying bottled water to installing a good filtration system and drinking that instead. The latter is by far the best option - cheaper in the long run, no plastic, and testing the water reveals it's purer than even the best brands out there (Bucovina, if anyone is interested). @@Zdamaneta This is your opinion! Many grey blocks have been renovated, there are 2-3 business areas full of skyscrappers, there is Magheru and the centre, plus the historic centre. You are definitely from Transylvania and I can tell you although most of the Transylvanian towns have business IT areas, they are 30 times under Bucharest right now. Bucharest GDP is 46 billion dollar GDP now, Budapest has 42, Copenhagen and Helsinki are under with less population. To see there it stands and money have been pumped since 1990. From its productivity, not from Transylvania. So I am from Maramures in Transylvania, but I moved for Bucharest in faculty. I also used to be like you..
Sweet Angel Sibiu is probably my favourite city in Romania in terms of architecture. It is a pretty well planned city (for let’s say Eastern European standards). The “old town” is just marvelous. It has countless baroque buildings. To some extent the old side of the city combines Gothic and Renaissance too. Outside the old town, you can still find old buildings, mostly low density houses designed keeping that Transylvanian Saxon architectural style in mind. Then there is the communist architecture which is mosly in the suburbs of Sibiu where it blends with the modern apartment blocks and suburban houses. I must say tho that from satellite it doesn’t look so amazing. That’s mostly because terrain is very tricky over there. I’d say that this is one of the best planned Romanian big cities, definitely somewhere there at the top with Constanța and perhaps Brașov.
It's the capital of my country . I'm from Satu Mare. Bucharest is dirty ,dusty, and ppl are grumpy. Only good things are the beautiful girls :) I prefer Budapest 10x times better

I was baffled the first time when I've heard that language and I realized I kind of understood most of it. Words are very similar and they also mean the same thing as in Romanian. It's pretty insane, considering Romania had nothing to do with Switzerland throughout history, as far as I know at least.
Oh very interesting! Amazing how a language all the way I’m Switzerland can sound like Romanian. I wonder how that happened?
@@LanaTiare Well, I've read that Romansh was a dialect spoken in some parts of the Roman empire. But history is pretty fuzzy in Europe, especially in the eastern part of it, so I couldn't find exactly why it sounds so similar to Romanian.
@@eddiemitza2544 Yes it’s interesting! Wish there was some more studies on it then
I would love to go 😍😍
I hope you get to go there someday! 😊
Actually, there are around 2.5 million people living in Bucharest. That's why it is so crowded.
Great video, btw!
Hi there!
Thanks for the correction! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊 Where are you from? :)
@@eddiemitza2544 Oh thanks so much for sharing! So sad to hear about the job losses and school closures, I hope things can go back to normal soon.
Very cool! Living near the Black Sea must be nice 😊 I only saw the Black Sea from Ukraine 🇺🇦
@@eddiemitza2544 Yes true! Oh wow that’s so hot! Haha I think I would not survive! I could imagine how beautiful Romania must look in summer time 😍 What is your favourite summer destination in Romania 🇷🇴?

Actually population in Bucharest is 2,3 mil.
haha so funny this is cold for you. Just normal weather here, you deserve more subscribers, it’s informative even to someone that lived in Romania all their life
Iulia Vrsk Haha I know I'm no good with cold. But after Romania I can go anywhere 😄💪🏼. Thank you! I'm glad you think so ! This means a lot to me 🥰.

Romania Channel Ah I see. Sounds like Bucharest is bigger than I thought then.
Romania Channel Wow! Seems like Bucharest is growing fast!
Romania Channel Yes it seems summertime is the best! I really want to see what it will be like now when it's not cold 😄.
oh, be damn sure I'm gonna watch your entire playlist. Watching foreigners discover Romania is so fascinating for us. I don't know, but it just is.
Also, I've never met a New Zealander before, we've never had any quarrel with a NZ in our past, so we're good. On the contrary, actually, I already like you. You're such a sweet and well mannered woman, and you can never have enough of that :)
And yeah, don't drink tap water.

Romanian language has Latin origin, more Latin than Italian or Portuguese.
Valentin Piscu So interesting! Is it easier to learn the other Latin languages once knowing Romanian?
@@valentinpiscu3814 60% latina in limba engleza? De unde iti iei tu informatiile?Doamne fereste,ai mai adaugat o limba faternicida cu latina ,deci practic daca-s roman inteleg 60% engleza?
Tap water is good for making food but it doesn't taste good when drinking, not because it has nasty stuff in it, because it has chloride in it so all bacteria are dead. Most people use it like normal water when doing "ciorba" or soup or washing vegetables/fruits or anything else. You can boil it and drink it to avoid chloride taste. This is not chinese water.

the population of Bucharest is actually close to 4 million but they're not all census registered....
I think you made a mistake, at Luca everything is kinda 4 RON (or lei), not 4 USD :)
Whoops 😂

Some tips
Thanks for all of the great tips! Really appreciate it. Hehe and oh the little old ladies are so cute in Romania 🇷🇴 ☺️
PS
Your boyfriend may be "annoying", but it was his "comfortably numb" comment that made hit the like button

Why would you go to Romania and visit Bucharest instead of Transylvania?
Because Bucharest is a lot richer than any Romanian city. So STFU! I hope they also visited the business areas and took a tour with the double-decker.
Alin Petrus Bucharest is an ugly commie city, it's not what it used to be back in the 20's and 30's.
John Doe Bucharest is like a hidden gem imo. It’s definitely worth visiting.
“We haven’t noticed any pick picketers” lol usually you do not until it is too late 😂

The romanian language is not a latin language...is one of the oldest language in the world...it comes from the same place as latin language, in fact they are actualy "sisters", meaning they come from the same place.
