I'm romanian and when she said "Everything is just better in Romania" i spilled may coffee all over the computer. It seems this country does have an influence on some people.
Mamaliga is basicly corn meal :) It's good that at least people outside the country can appreciate Romania, because the people inside sure have a habit of complaining about everything
There was a time when I used to hate living in Romania, I hated this country and all I wanted was to escape, I went and lived in a few countries but once I got a bit older and realized how many opportunities and how much better this country is compared to everything around.
I'v lived in Romania for 38 years. never had cow heart :)). Guess in some parts they might eat it. But we are a very divers nation. Food is different from one corner to the other.
Her romanian is SO GOOD. I mean, not perfect, but really good. She can easly talk with someone else witch is a big freaking thing here. Almost allways we need to be the ones to talk another languege, but when we hear someone from another country speaking romanian and also beeing understandeble (with verry small mistakes, but no one really cares about em' anyway), that is a really big thing for us. Well, congrats. :D
Girl, you should come visit România more often, its the heart of Europe. We have all kind of uniform territories. We have Carpathian Mountains, Black Sea, and dealuri & câmpii 😁😁
Imagine me as a romanian living in USA, well just because of the economy, otherwise I would gladly go back. I remember when an American asked me: So your going home ha? What are you gonna miss from here? And I was like umm nothing really 🤷🏻♂️
I'm not crying, you're crying! This was so heartwarming! I am Romanian and have been living in the States for almost 9 years, it is so wonderful to hear all about my home country with such grace and sincerity! Thank you so much for this video! #neverforgetwhereyoucomefrom
All that I can say when I was hearing you speaking Romanian and about God and love you brought me into tears. When you miss Romania you can just search for any orthodox church and try to go for a Sunday morning service. Best wishes from a Romanian.
My AMERICAN wife quit NY for RO and for me of course. She loves RO ( BRASOV) and she speaks pretty good Romanian to. We lived together in the states for 12 years before convincing her to move to RO with me. Our daughter she was 5 when she came to RO for the first time and she is happy here. Free daycare, free school, free healthcare, etc. Romania is food but only in or around big cities. Of course that are poor areas but is going well forward. We can travel in 28 European countries only with a regular ID and we have fucking good food & music. Miss though that American cars that are not really available here for the regular people. Only the rich can have a V8 gasoline Land Cruiser vs the US where any cashier can have a big ass SUV
Thank you for the kind words about Romania and congrats on your language skills. I want to say you should have informed yourself better before saying things like: "not many people have cars" or "no one lives in a house". Bucharest is suffocated with the huge number of cars and also a lot of people live in beautiful houses in the suburbs. I am glad you had a good time here and hope you will come back for more experiences...and bread :)
We have a saying: Fie painea cat de rea, tot mai buna-n tara mea. It translates to: May the bread be as bad as it may, it is still better in my country.
As a Romanian living in Minnesota, USA. When she said was cold, it does not get as cold as it gets in Minnesota, don’t get me wrong it gets colder but not often.
Sarmale or staffed cabbage are very popular here in the States in places such as Michigan, Ohio among Polish communities. Mamaliga or boiled corn is very well known in Mexic ( polenta ) or in Southern states as grits
Wow I wasn't expecting to hear you speak Romanian so well. I was born in Romania. I have been living in Canada for 25 years. Awesome country and people.
I'm really glad because firstly , im the first one to comment on the video , and secondly , because foreigners tend to love Roamnia and the romanian people. I also love the fact that you don't try to picture us not solely on the economical stand point , but from a cultural and spiritual and social view . Romania Loves people like you : )
Congrats on your exceptional Romanian. I mean you even used "pe care..." which is a big thing, because only educated or very educated Romanians know how to use correctly these "care/pe care/din care/în care...etc”. You talked a lot here about your experience with a gypsy family and I know that, as a missionary, you go to the poorest possible places and people, but that experience might be just an exception, especially when it comes to the Gypsy minority :) Btw, may I ask how many months(or years) have u spent in Romania? It may be just to link this video and show that Romanian, as beautiful and hard as it may be, its still easy to get or understand since it has always had something familiar there, even for the germanic based native speakers :D
WOW YOUR ROMANIAN SPEAKING SOUNDS GREAT AMAZING... YES INDEED DUMNEZEU LOVES ROMANIANA AND LOVES ALL HUMANITY.. YOU ARE SUCH A RARE SOUL.,SHOWS YOUR FAITH DEAR..
I am romanian :)) Actually almost everyone has a car, but the public transport is used so much because you can't take drive lessons until you are 18. So usually teens and old people are the ones who use it the most.
Mămăliga & Sarmale with fresh sour cream is a romanian speciality. Turkey has sarmale too, but they cook it another way than us, Romanians. I’d like to come visit America one day, but I need visa and money for airplane, which I can’t provide right now... but Romania it’s a cool place to live in. 🙂
You are so good harted and sensitive (that's a compliment! :)) and your Romanian is perfect! How much time have you spent here, like 20 years? You had no single mistake and this is quite something for such difficult language! We also have houses, and not less of them big and beutiful, I have to say I am amazed you haven't saw them. As for the cars, we really think we have too many! I am amazed too and a little sad when you said we are special and so different because we are compassionate, closed and faitful to each other and consider to sacrifice ourselves for our guests. That's normality, my dear! People all over the world used to be like this! It's not out fault we kept this common sense and others didn't. I'm so sorry you, as a young hope for this planet, are not taught these profoundly human values. I'm actually afraid to think what kind of creatures live in other parts of the world, for Chirst sake. We don't have so much money, as you noticed, but we are reach indeed! We have our souls. Tradition, education, faith and generosity are our visit card. Sadly, our new generation, influenced by the West, is going to lose all of these...
9:00 you are talking about communism and basically describe it (all people are equal ..in theory) And the big "castle" in Bucharest is Casa Poporului [People House] and it can actually be seen from space.
i have seen some of these "living in Romania" videos from Lifey, featuring, I believe, American missionaries. Can someone tell me which cities these missionaries lived in during their stay? My time in Romania (Oltenia) was a bit different than what I am hearing in these videos. Thank you!
1:08 "mamaliga" is pretty much the Romanian version of polenta. It's a 2:1 water-corn ratio mixed in a pot until it becomes this soft mass that holds its integrity as it dries. My mother makes it all the time so that way I can stay in touch with my Romanian culture even if I live in Canada. Romania is the best, and honestly, my body is here but my heart is in Romania.
Romania is actually the country with most home ownership rate. In the cities we do have huge ugly blocks, but most Romanians live in the rural areas in their own houses.
Mamaligă its just corn flower boiled with water and salt and we eated insted of bread and its very good with some kind of food like pork, sarmale, fish and manny moore
of course there are some people who also live in houses but as house are much more expnasive than apartments and the most people do not have that much money....-
I'm romanian and I live in UK and I agree the most what she said. Thinks are very beautiful, humble, very polite and warm people there, it makes me feel kinda proud watching, but also there's some rude, selfish and thieves people you have to be careful, witch is kinda disappointing...you know advantages and disadvantage you must know before you going in any other place. There's quite a difference mentality between generations, but...still a unique place in my heart. Thanks for those lovely words about my country, btw your romanian is perfect!
mamaliga is like American Polenta. If you miss it and want to have it in I recommend you to use Dell' Alpe instant polenta. It is very easy to make. You can find it on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Dell-Alpe-Instant-Polenta-20-Ounce/dp/B00474H3UA Thank you for the kind words about my country.
I'm romanian and when she said "Everything is just better in Romania" i spilled may coffee all over the computer. It seems this country does have an influence on some people.
It's a little weird to eat mămăligă and bread at the same time.
Mamaliga is basicly corn meal :)
It's good that at least people outside the country can appreciate Romania, because the people inside sure have a habit of complaining about everything
lmao all these people talking about how romanians do everything out of love, but they didnt hear the eu te-am facut, eu te omor fights
nobody talk about "PAPANAȘI". It's a desert
There was a time when I used to hate living in Romania, I hated this country and all I wanted was to escape, I went and lived in a few countries but once I got a bit older and realized how many opportunities and how much better this country is compared to everything around.
For how long did you live in Romania? Your Romanian was unbelievable.
Traian Ivanescu s-a descurcat excellent in a vorbi in limba română
I'v lived in Romania for 38 years. never had cow heart :)). Guess in some parts they might eat it. But we are a very divers nation. Food is different from one corner to the other.

Samael third, “heart of europe” was an expression.
Imagine me as a romanian living in USA, well just because of the economy, otherwise I would gladly go back. I remember when an American asked me: So your going home ha? What are you gonna miss from here? And I was like umm nothing really 🤷🏻♂️
This is really touching to me, as a romanian, to see somebody talk GOOD things about us...Espacially an American...
Of course there are houses , but depends on the neighbourhood
I'm not crying, you're crying!
This was so heartwarming! I am Romanian and have been living in the States for almost 9 years, it is so wonderful to hear all about my home country with such grace and sincerity! Thank you so much for this video!

All that I can say when I was hearing you speaking Romanian and about God and love you brought me into tears. When you miss Romania you can just search for any orthodox church and try to go for a Sunday morning service. Best wishes from a Romanian.
Next time visit Transilvania and you will see houses too, not only blocks.

You talk so nice about Romania I almost want to live there! Oh I forgot I actually live here in Romania!
Mamaliga is actualy made of corn.
Incase you are still wondering, Mămăligă is a porridge made out of yellow maize flour, traditional in Romania.
Legend has it that there is a guy watching this video without being Romanian. Hello, foreign man, this comment is for you.
Sarmale or staffed cabbage are very popular here in the States in places such as Michigan, Ohio among Polish communities. Mamaliga or boiled corn is very well known in Mexic ( polenta ) or in Southern states as grits
Thank you very much for your beautiful words !God bless you!
Wow I wasn't expecting to hear you speak Romanian so well. I was born in Romania. I have been living in Canada for 25 years. Awesome country and people.
Mamaliga is polenta and it's made from corn that is grounded and made as a flower which is boiled in hot water with a little salt that's all.
It's not the gluten you reacted to back home, it's the yeast that makes the difference!
OMG In Romania everything is just better than others countries. Thanks for your appreciation words. Good bless all
I'm really glad because firstly , im the first one to comment on the video , and secondly , because foreigners tend to love Roamnia and the romanian people. I also love the fact that you don't try to picture us not solely on the economical stand point , but from a cultural and spiritual and social view . Romania Loves people like you : )
Sarmale is cabbage wrapped around a mix of rice spices and often meat.
Congrats on your exceptional Romanian. It looks like she worked as a missionary christian in Romania which makes me really proud of her. I don't know who she is but God bless her.
Ceaușescu didn't overtake Romania and the Parlament Palace was build for the parlament and not for his residence

She didn't talk about our experts. In Romania we have many experts..
"Mamaliga" is polenta. We either make it pasty or denser.
The end was so sweet 😘😘😘
Yes people live mostly in blocks, but there are exactly 0 skyscrapers in Romania 😂
Nu exista zgarie nori fiindca solul din bucuresti este nisipos, si la cutremur ar pica imediat o cladire asa inalta.
You have a beautiful heart. Thank you for picking Romania to do missionary. Your Romanian was really good. 👍👍👍
You have my respect ! Love, from Romania ! ^^
Do we have romanians here? (I am one btw)
You are so good harted and sensitive (that's a compliment! :)) and your Romanian is perfect! How much time have you spent here, like 20 years? You had no single mistake and this is quite something for such difficult language!

Ceausescu did not build the palace for him its name is the people house or the parliament house its the most big and heavy construction in the world
i m impress by the girl Romanian language skills VERY WELL
You're one of the very few Americans who speak Romanian. Heck, probably one of the very few to speak any language other than English. So...respect!
