Soft bioplastics aren’t recyclable in most recycling facilities. You have to make sure that your city accepts them before putting them in recycling bin or else, they’ll be redirected as garbage.
I wish the brand didn’t take the easier road of “no palm oil” to align with sustainability trends, but rather worked to incorporate sustainably sourced palm. Palm is much more efficient than other veg oils like soy or coconut which take 4-10 times more land. Boycotting also has such adverse effects for the smallholder farmers who harvest it, and they comprise 80% of global production. I like to see brands who raise the bar on raw material sourcing standards, rather than look away because it’s “unpopular”. I hope the brand reviews their approach on this one! ✌🏽
I watched a show about exactly what you said. There are farmers who are not clear cutting acres and acres of land for this. They leave some trees and they let the leaves fall as a compost. They are doing it old school and sustainable. You’re right, just buy your ingredients from a reputable sustainable company/farmer. The whole thing is so corrupt. These companies would rather use something cheaper and then say their a clean brand. This same thing happened with mica in makeup. You have to prove your mica is sustainably sourced. They didn’t stop putting it in makeup, they just switched suppliers. Sorry rant over 🙂
I agree with you. It’s a major export of my country and cutting it out the chain entirely hurts the workers at the bottom of the pole, the guys whose livelihood depends on this. The guys at the top can take it, but they aren’t the ones slaving away day in and day out. Also let’s not forget, companies push agendas so things like soy oil get used more but nobody talks about the sustainability process of that.
Palm oil has a bad wrap. Tbh, I never knew there was sustainable palm. Maybe it's unawareness, rather than avoiding it all together. Brands also have to keep their bottom line lower, otherwise they won't make a profit. He spent more on packaging already. Coming from a business perspective, there are situations where you have to choose what fits better in your model, especially when you are trying to make a more affordable skincare line. What's not to say once they make a profit down the line they can reformulate with sustainable palm oil in the future. Unfortunately sustainability comes at a high cost. So if he incorporates every environmental element, this cleanser will be $50 instead of $20...🤷♀️
@@wheatbread2002 There is a certificatin standard for responsibly sourced palm oil (called the RSPO). Certifications arent perfect, but they do help nudge the industry in the right direction - so that producers, traders and brands commit to and be audited against "no deforestation, no peet development and no exploitation." If all brands start buying certified palm oil, the prices drop (more demand --> more sustainably sourced palm in the market --> greater affordability for consumers!). It isnt easy nor quick, but I hope good brands like Hyram's go in this direction!!

@@manuelmancini4546 there's a lot of ways things are good or bad for the environment. Reusable bags for example seem good but by certain metrics they're the worst. Same with cotton vs polyester. Cotton ravages land and uses a quarter of all pesticides used in crops. Polyester is a building. Environmental damage isn't something we can fix via anything we can do. It has to be major systemic change at the top. People being excited about a product that is "better" is all we can do tbh. Unless you know a product made entirely from recycled banana leaves from some dudes backyard next door to you and even then it's still questionable.

The website says 10% of sales will be going to the two charities they working with, the rainforest trust for 1 year and the thirst project for 50 years. The website also says they will be releasing reports every six months on how exactly the money is being used once the product launches.

Also the actives are minimal. I think if you’re looking for basic products at Sephora prices these will work great for you. Don’t get it twisted please. not only do the products look AMAZING but i really appreciate what he’s doing for the environment and the transparency his brand has about the sustainability and sourcing stories of their products. so many companies say they’re sustainable just because they use recyclable or glass packaging, but hyram and his team has considered the sustainability of every step of the production process, life cycle, and after life. i can’t wait to try it!! 🌱

The amount of people that are going to positively be impacted by the purchase of your products is going to be so massive that I cannot think of another human on this entire planet that has done something on the scale you are (the social ones specifically, the helping of all people have basic human rights, the jobs created to sustainably obtain ingredients, the list goes on). Yes, there are good people. Yes, people do good for others all the time… BUT YOU!! Each product helping a different issue in the world, benefiting different people in need, UGH! I just can’t! It’s incredible & I am just so proud of you. I am honestly going to feel so honored to own each product and use them in my daily routine, as well as on my clients (Esthetician here 🙂). Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like you’ve mentioned that in the ingredient list if something is listed after Phenoxyethanol then it has less than 1% and isn’t effective so would this be the same for the green tea and centella in these products? I noticed they’re listed after Phenoxyethanol on the ingredients list..
On the website it says this "+3% Centella Asiatica complex… 0.15% Centella Asiatica extract is formulated here to deliver it’s infamous antioxidant ability without risking sensitivity +5% Green tea complex… 0.25% green tea is stabilized by glycerine in this complex to work together to deliver stable, antioxidising phenols to the skin whilst supporting moisturisation and Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL)" So indeed the actual ingredient is less than 1%, but the complex (the stuff it's mixed with to improve efficacy) is at the levels he's saying. Gonna be honest tho, it doesn't matter too much in a cleanser, in my opinion, because it gets washed off and you don't get as much of these benefits anyway 😇 All his leave on treatments I'm so down for though 😌🙌🏽

I’m just curious… If these ingredients are being formulated at 5% and 3% then why are both listed below phenoxyethanol on the ingredient list, which can only be formulated at up to 1%?
They are in a complex that is made with other ingredients to make them more effective. So the 5 & 3 % is the complex the actual ingredients are technically less than 1% but at a higher concentration it would cause irritation & do more harm than good
the fact that i LOVE LOVE LOVE about Hyram is that he's so passionate about the Earth, Climate change and every single thing that he does, he makes sure its only beneficial. And come on, there's literally NOTHING you can hate about him, he's such a sweetheart. LOVE YOU HYRAM!
Sustainability question as well as consumer expectations: What are your launch plans as far how Selfless by Hyram will assuredly be sold out immediately on launch day? Are you starting with an initial large stock or are there systems set up for fast restocking? Or is there someone in the marketing working on addressing sustainable production pace so as not to encourage overharvesting of ingredients?
I am so excited to pick this up for my 11yr old who has oily skin that is prone to breakouts! My kid isn't motivated to take care of their skin but since purchasing this product actually has a positive impact my kid will be motivated to use it! Thank goodness something that will finally motivate my kid to put forth more effort when battling their tween skin issues!

Looks fake cuz it is, $30 for 30 ml retinol, $20 for a 150ml cleanser is the biggest scam ever. Let it go on for a couple more months and his teenage fanbase will realize how much of a hypocrite he is.

If you just want to wash your face just get a €5 cerave cleanser. But I will agree that he seems a little disingenuous in these videos... although that could just be nervousness or awkwardness around making a new brand. And I agree that it’s a bit hypocritical since making a new brand is worse for the environment than none at all but I’m just happy he’s at least trying. I probably won’t be able to by anything since I already have plenty of skincare that will last me a while and also buying online is more expensive :)

I WAS on the great cleanser hunt for my sensitive dry skin!!! I have tried quite a few and they sit on a shelf because like you mentioned, they strip my skin or don’t cleanse enough. You have no idea how excited I am to get this cleanser and the price????! I did submit a question about the percentages to the brand though so I’ll try to update if they answer me 😊 (They answered and it’s formulated with 3% Centella and 5% Green Tea Extract 💙) Y’all please stop trying to say I’m wrong, I did a lot of research on this 😅

I’m not vegan in the slightest and the Dr. Jart cleanser helped heal contact dermatitis I got from another product since my CeraVe SA Cleanser was making the problems worse. CeraVe also isn’t cruelty free.

I'm so happy to see that his most expensive product is $30. He could have charged $80 for each product and most would all have bought it, but he's conscious about the issue of access to good quality skincare and there is still a portion going to charities.
@@Dsfgxfdd It is comparable/cheaper to other retinol at Sephora. Paula's Choice, Sunday Riley, Drunk Elephant, Peter Thomas Roth, Biossance, Dr. Dennis Gross, Murad, First Aid Beauty, etc etc etc are all $50-88 for 1oz... AND they are not as sustainable nor do they donate to charity like Hyram's.

I'm really happy for him, and I know this is what everyone has been waiting for. But at the same time I'm a little sad because I feel like we're losing old Hyram and his objective reviews and recommendations. I know he will always have the intention of being objective, and I'm hopeful he'll keep producing similar content that he has before, but given all of himself that he has poured into his line, he can't really be honestly 100% objective. Again, I'm really happy for him, and proud that he is staying true to his values in the way he is producing this line. It's a new phase in his career--just a little bittersweet, like most change.
I definitely understand where you’re coming from,but i feel like this’d be great for you to know.i’ve shown the ingredient lists to 2 dermatologists that I always trust,and they’ve loved them so far!They’ve both approved of all the products that have been showcased up until now even though we live in a third world country where we can’t directly buy the products,that’s how you know they weren’t biased(they weren’t even familiar with the brand!).

I need this cleanser! It sounds like everything I want. I want the foam because in my mind I don’t feel clean without some foam (if that makes sense) but I also have dry skin so too much foam drys me out.
Given that this line is under the Inkey List umbrella and Hyram takes a pretty hardline stance against fragrance (like Dr. Dray), I expect her to have a more favorable view of it. The products seem very well thought out. Naturium was also a sort of direct attack on The Ordinary, and its rollout was sketchy to say the least. Hyram at least isn't trying to trash other brands with the rollout of his own brand.

She did love Krave though because their products are truly great (except spf 😬) so I’m hopeful that she will be impressed by this line too.

She has a problem with it when the products aren't what they say and instead are filled with fragrance. Naturium is a sketchy brand, Hyram has been open since the beginning and that's crucial. He also shares the same values as Dr Dray. She is super straightforward, so she will share her honest views once she gets to try his products. Hyram may have sent these to her already 🙂
I ordered the naturium exfoliater and it was pretty rough. After trying it once, I ended up using it to exfoliate my body instead of my face. I also bought something else that stung my face. Her products are all on the stronger side and for my sensitive skin its a no.
I love Hyram but I feel like he's going against what he's previously said in previous videos a bit. In his first product reveal, he says that it has amazing results as an argument, as he does here too. But previously in all of his videos, he mentions how results will vary from person to person, why should that be different now that he made one? and how are all of his products absolutely 100% suited to both the driest and oiliest of skin types simultaneously? also this product has citric acid in it which I'm also confused about.

I'm pretty sure you will be able to order his products directly from his skincare website selflessbyhyram.com (don't quote me on that though lol.)If you go to the website and click on Product Reveals at the top it will show all the products that he has revealed so far. It shows the price points for the products and a place were you can sign up so you don't miss out on the launch. If you end up not being able to order from his website once the products are launched could you maybe order from Sephora.com regardless of the fact that you live in the UK? I'm not too sure how that works in the UK because I'm in the US lol. I would hope you can because I'm in the same boat as you! I would love to have this product!

I kind of wish these release videos were filmed like your usual sit down videos, without the background music and filters (although I understand that its basically an advertisement and collaboration), but I love that you're including your values into a skincare brand and all the products so far sound amazing :)
Will this still require double cleansing in the evening? He mentioned that it removes sunscreen and makeup, but he also said it was a water-based cleanser?
I'm thinking yes depending on how much makeup you wear and sunscreen. He said you can pair it with your favorite first step cleanser. I haven't found a cleanser that removes everything yet and i have tried SO MANY.
I think so because he said you can use it “either with your favourite first cleanse product or on its own” (so i’d say yes if you wear a good amount of sunscreen and/or makeup)

I wish the brand didn’t take the easier road of “no palm oil” to align with sustainability trends, but rather worked to incorporate sustainably sourced palm. Palm is much more efficient than other veg oils like soy or coconut which take 4-10 times more land. Boycotting also has such adverse effects for the smallholder farmers who harvest it, and they comprise 80% of global production. I like to see brands who raise the bar on raw material sourcing standards, rather than look away because it’s “unpopular”. I hope the brand reviews their approach on this one! ✌🏽

I watched a show about exactly what you said. There are farmers who are not clear cutting acres and acres of land for this. They leave some trees and they let the leaves fall as a compost. They are doing it old school and sustainable. You’re right, just buy your ingredients from a reputable sustainable company/farmer. The whole thing is so corrupt. These companies would rather use something cheaper and then say their a clean brand. This same thing happened with mica in makeup. You have to prove your mica is sustainably sourced. They didn’t stop putting it in makeup, they just switched suppliers. Sorry rant over 🙂
I agree with you. It’s a major export of my country and cutting it out the chain entirely hurts the workers at the bottom of the pole, the guys whose livelihood depends on this. The guys at the top can take it, but they aren’t the ones slaving away day in and day out.
Also let’s not forget, companies push agendas so things like soy oil get used more but nobody talks about the sustainability process of that.
Palm oil has a bad wrap. Tbh, I never knew there was sustainable palm. Maybe it's unawareness, rather than avoiding it all together. Brands also have to keep their bottom line lower, otherwise they won't make a profit. He spent more on packaging already. Coming from a business perspective, there are situations where you have to choose what fits better in your model, especially when you are trying to make a more affordable skincare line. What's not to say once they make a profit down the line they can reformulate with sustainable palm oil in the future. Unfortunately sustainability comes at a high cost. So if he incorporates every environmental element, this cleanser will be $50 instead of $20...🤷♀️
@@wheatbread2002 There is a certificatin standard for responsibly sourced palm oil (called the RSPO). Certifications arent perfect, but they do help nudge the industry in the right direction - so that producers, traders and brands commit to and be audited against "no deforestation, no peet development and no exploitation." If all brands start buying certified palm oil, the prices drop (more demand --> more sustainably sourced palm in the market --> greater affordability for consumers!). It isnt easy nor quick, but I hope good brands like Hyram's go in this direction!!

@@manuelmancini4546 there's a lot of ways things are good or bad for the environment. Reusable bags for example seem good but by certain metrics they're the worst. Same with cotton vs polyester. Cotton ravages land and uses a quarter of all pesticides used in crops. Polyester is a building.
Environmental damage isn't something we can fix via anything we can do. It has to be major systemic change at the top.
People being excited about a product that is "better" is all we can do tbh. Unless you know a product made entirely from recycled banana leaves from some dudes backyard next door to you and even then it's still questionable.

Kind of disappointing that centella and green tea are listed beneath the phenoxyethanol in the ingredient list.
Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like you’ve mentioned that in the ingredient list if something is listed after Phenoxyethanol then it has less than 1% and isn’t effective so would this be the same for the green tea and centella in these products? I noticed they’re listed after Phenoxyethanol on the ingredients list..

Gonna be honest tho, it doesn't matter too much in a cleanser, in my opinion, because it gets washed off and you don't get as much of these benefits anyway 😇

I’m just curious… If these ingredients are being formulated at 5% and 3% then why are both listed below phenoxyethanol on the ingredient list, which can only be formulated at up to 1%?

They are in a complex that is made with other ingredients to make them more effective. So the 5 & 3 % is the complex the actual ingredients are technically less than 1% but at a higher concentration it would cause irritation & do more harm than good

Are you starting with an initial large stock or are there systems set up for fast restocking? I am so excited to pick this up for my 11yr old who has oily skin that is prone to breakouts! My kid isn't motivated to take care of their skin but since purchasing this product actually has a positive impact my kid will be motivated to use it! Thank goodness something that will finally motivate my kid to put forth more effort when battling their tween skin issues!

If you just want to wash your face just get a €5 cerave cleanser. And I agree that it’s a bit hypocritical since making a new brand is worse for the environment than none at all but I’m just happy he’s at least trying. I'm so happy to see that his most expensive product is $30. He could have charged $80 for each product and most would all have bought it, but he's conscious about the issue of access to good quality skincare and there is still a portion going to charities.

I'm really happy for him, and I know this is what everyone has been waiting for. But at the same time I'm a little sad because I feel like we're losing old Hyram and his objective reviews and recommendations. I know he will always have the intention of being objective, and I'm hopeful he'll keep producing similar content that he has before, but given all of himself that he has poured into his line, he can't really be honestly 100% objective. Again, I'm really happy for him, and proud that he is staying true to his values in the way he is producing this line. It's a new phase in his career--just a little bittersweet, like most change.

Given that this line is under the Inkey List umbrella and Hyram takes a pretty hardline stance against fragrance (like Dr. Dray), I expect her to have a more favorable view of it. The products seem very well thought out. Naturium was also a sort of direct attack on The Ordinary, and its rollout was sketchy to say the least. Hyram at least isn't trying to trash other brands with the rollout of his own brand.

She has a problem with it when the products aren't what they say and instead are filled with fragrance. Naturium is a sketchy brand, Hyram has been open since the beginning and that's crucial. He also shares the same values as Dr Dray. She is super straightforward, so she will share her honest views once she gets to try his products. Hyram may have sent these to her already 🙂

I ordered the naturium exfoliater and it was pretty rough. After trying it once, I ended up using it to exfoliate my body instead of my face. I also bought something else that stung my face. Her products are all on the stronger side and for my sensitive skin its a no.

I love Hyram but I feel like he's going against what he's previously said in previous videos a bit. In his first product reveal, he says that it has amazing results as an argument, as he does here too. But previously in all of his videos, he mentions how results will vary from person to person, why should that be different now that he made one? and how are all of his products absolutely 100% suited to both the driest and oiliest of skin types simultaneously? also this product has citric acid in it which I'm also confused about.
You’re not the only one. Seriously, it’s not a one skin fits all kind of product. He’s done quite a bit of backpedaling with this launch.

hi hyram, this is a long shot but have you tried using biodegradable containers for your skincare products? i'm a huge fan of yours and one of the problems i encounter with using skincare is products disposing the containers

I'm pretty sure you will be able to order his products directly from his skincare website selflessbyhyram.com (don't quote me on that though lol.)If you go to the website and click on Product Reveals at the top it will show all the products that he has revealed so far. It shows the price points for the products and a place were you can sign up so you don't miss out on the launch. If you end up not being able to order from his website once the products are launched could you maybe order from Sephora.com regardless of the fact that you live in the UK? I'm not too sure how that works in the UK because I'm in the US lol. I would hope you can because I'm in the same boat as you! I would love to have this product!

Unfortunately this is one of his marketing schemes. He says the most expensive product will be $30 so he just offers smaller portions instead. $30 for 150 ml is one of the most expensive cleansers
Huge marketing tactic. “It’s only $20” then in the small print it’s because you’re getting half the normal size. I’m not really pleased with the way he makes it look like he’s the chemist who made these. I wish people would understand that this is just like jaclyn hill selling a morphe palette.

I kind of wish these release videos were filmed like your usual sit down videos, without the background music and filters (although I understand that its basically an advertisement and collaboration), but I love that you're including your values into a skincare brand and all the products so far sound amazing :)
Will this still require double cleansing in the evening? He mentioned that it removes sunscreen and makeup, but he also said it was a water-based cleanser?
I'm thinking yes depending on how much makeup you wear and sunscreen. He said you can pair it with your favorite first step cleanser. I haven't found a cleanser that removes everything yet and i have tried SO MANY.
I think so because he said you can use it “either with your favourite first cleanse product or on its own” (so i’d say yes if you wear a good amount of sunscreen and/or makeup)
You always have to double cleanse to get sunscreen off. So this being water based is not a first cleanse. It can be a morning cleanser. 🙂

So long as he holds up his end of the bargain it will most definitely not be greenwashing. Just good deeds for the environment 🌎👍😊 Only time will tell. Thi launch is timed perfectly for me!!! I'm pretty sure I'm going to run out of cleanser on or near the release date. I also LOVE centella, I have found it makes a real difference in the redness on my pale AF face. SO excited for this

thank youuuu. it's ridiculously hard to find a simple daily cleanser that's both suitable for sensitive skin and has nice additives like centella/green tea. i can already tell this will feel like a simple luxury
