Body filler Bondo
Thanks for showing us your way of putting on bondo.
Such an amazing video. I love to watch all your video. They are super amazing and informative at the same time. Keep posting more!
Hi I just saw the whole video. Very nicely done. Good explanation of many small things that if not looked after during the process can result in crappy paint work...... Custom Spray Mods ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ from Pakistan
Although im sure its been said before as an autobody tech i wouldve either tried to hammer out the corner body line some more or used a spot puller to slide hammer out the body line some more. Just to use less body filler which is best as you said, for the least chance of the work failing later on down the road. Otherwise great video.
7:44 that was so cool how that beat came in as he was about to work on the filler.
Hello,I'm patching couple minor rust spots with body filler. Then going over it with glaze putty. Can I prime it with Primer Sealer from Rustoleum and leave it without painting or it will absorb water and cause rust?Thank you
Too many hard creases for PDR repair. Plus it looks like he had paint come off and he touched it up.
Also: Peter was awesome in this Video! I can tell he knows what he's doing :D
I vote for more videos with Peter!
You can also weld some sticks to the body panel and then screw a sliding hammer on the sticks thisway you do as less damage to the panel and saves u a lot of body filler
They also said this is for people without a stud welder.
@@alec4672 Stud Welder works great. i need it!
Spot on!! Lots of body filler cracks easily
Seems like everyone is a pro with a PHD in auto body repair in the comment section. Haha
shnam13 yeah and watching a video titled "how to repair a dent"
customspraymods lmao, good point
shnam13 @
shnam13 Some watch the videos because they do this as a profession and they like seeing other peoples techniques.
@@Wipsplash definitely! Specially of people who are supposed to know more. Not my case here. I just want to see if I can repair my car because my quote was insanely high.
Helpful and straightforward....Thanks!
You can use a heat gun to make the damaged area more malleable
Great to see more videos from you! I'm a mechanic on buses and it's always great to watch this sort of stuff.
Wow, I would certainly leave the dent now I know how tough it is to remove it.
WARNING : just to let Amateurs know... you should always wear a proper respirator when sanding or painting etc...
unless you like chronic chest problems , i would also recomend overalls , ventilated area , gloves , steel toe boots , patience
Brandy Catson Gloves? Oh....you mean bitch mittens
@@MotorFrozes ya like dermatitis?
Also csa approved glasses and with spraying paints full face respirators
Brandy Catson, What about wearing a hard hat as well.
Wear a condom also
Only took you 19:04. I got quoted 8 hours for a similar job :(
aaron anderson lmao
@aaron anderson none the less. it aint a 8 hour job. 2,5 absolute max
Theyre probably taking into account proper drying time and paint coats, sometimes they put on 6 coats of paint and 3 of clearcoat. He also isnt sanding to the higher grits and is taking shortcuts that way or just not putting them on the video.
and that folks, is the reason why body work is expensive
I think it is too expensive. Just my opinion.
the gaming waffle Labor ain’t cheap
@@angeles3129 TOO expensive? It's a skilled trade, average pay is 25-30 dollars an hour with shop charging 35-40 dollars an hours. That little thing of putty he just pulled out? Like 30-40 bucks probably going to use over half of ot for the dent. Then you have sand paper, higher the grit the more expensive you get. You sand base filler with 80-100 grit, glaze Coat filler which is more expensive than normal filler gets sanded with 120-180. Then after it's all smoother, 220-320 further out to Prime, after primer is dry, sand the primer with 400-600. Now with that little repair area, you still have to paint the the whole bed side, if you're a good painter and can tint color you won't have to blend the cab corner to make it match. Sand the whole bedside with 800 grit sandpaper then use a grey scotchbrite to smooth out any swirls from a orbital sander, tape up the whole area, plastic sheet the truck which is more money, around 2 coats of paint(base coat) and then clear cost the whole bedside. Take the plastic off, put the bed back together (taillight and wheel well) and all that WITH a booth you could do in a 6 hour period. So 550-700 bucks for a small dent like that makes alot of sense
@@angeles3129 then fix it your own dam self , its cheap people like you that most body shops don’t wanna take care of . nagging and stuff all the time
I did! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Ive got a lancer and want to put wide rear quarter panels. I want to blend the body kit to the car. So would this be the most efficient process or there are other ways
I'm trying to learn this but it gets so frustrating I have filled and sanded and field in sanded these dents and holes in the back of my trunk but they just will not come out right
Is the lesson here that however small the dent it's always better to put in a spray painted replacement panel than try to fix it with filler?
Very good work. I think this helped me out
I like that primer as i dont hav a garage and need to paint car so i can leave it out in the rain. sweet!!! Nice vid also
Can you give a bit more detail about using the hammer and dolly to get rid of high spots please.
its not the right hammer and he can't he's bad go take a class or call a professional.
Awsome video getting straight to the point. 👍
Dude I just single coated a crease on a toolbody work truck. And was like half awake doing it, blocked it off and looked at it like "oh shit.....nice"
I can’t find upol top stop filler anymore I see Top stop gold is that the 2021 rebranding/equivalent to it?
It’s called easy3 now.
GREAT WORK LEARN ALOT MY GOOD SIR !!!!
Remember to pound down the high spots to relieve stress. Makes pounding out the dent easier.
Hello , all is good one think I don't understand why nobody use 2 spatulas when applying the filler , try and you will see the difference, you will do it much faster and more straight from the start and stays less sanding for you.
Best regards.
I just found a video how to use the two spatulas, enjoy
th-cam.com/video/bui_4a-I0tc/w-d-xo.html
No, Thinners is not a good idea to use as a cleaning agent before painting.
customspraymods if your doing a bare metal respray will any filler/bog work with 2pack?
all good bro but one criticism i have is filling on top of paint
The Pete had awesome advice.
Good video but I would have usedacid etch primer on the bare metal then filler over the top
Should never do that. Fillers are made of talc powder that doesn't like any sort of acid. That's why it wipes away with thinner. If it's rated for direct to metal use then it's fine, if not then a good epoxy primer should be used. Should never have etch prime touching filler if you can help it
Why no pdr? It would cost me 300 for 30 pretty large hail dents. But that could be just because it's aluminum
I vote for Paintless Dent Repair for that dent (ding). I've had to repair worst than that with PDR with less time, money and effort. Paintless dent repair would have made the job even more cheaper and quicker than what you paid and put your time into.
Food for thought.
There’s missing paint tho
paintless dent repair ftw. cheaper, quicker and keeps the original paint.
no need to stuff around with hammering , sanding, priming, filler, taping and paint. Applying heat the right way will also shrink most of the stretched metal.
Thank you for this video. Really has helped me🙏🙏🙏
Ever car I fix coming back a wide body
You should have about 2% hardener in the filler
That's what 50 to 1 means, that would be 100 to 2 / 2%
what is a dolly and what does it look like
Excuse
How to mix paint from one step up to the last step Thank you
do you have to get the paint off before you put the bog putty on does it stick to paint or not
Deb Storey. It does stick to paint.
customspraymods oh Good thanks
This is very helpful. Thanks
Why didn't you wet sand the filler?
muy bacano excelente
What grit did you sand the body filler with after you filled it
You shape the filler with 36 grit or 80 grit both will take it down relatively quickly after the shaping you are trying to feather and blend there you would start with 180 and work your way to a 400 wet sand that should work fine to put color over
I’m used to pushing it in nice and hard whenever I find a tight hole...I’d be a natural at this stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I must ask, as i saw in one in you vids you had an MCM-sticker stock on your toolbox or workbench (dont realy remeber that good) have you any kind of contact or plans to work with Mighty car mods in the future? :) Ps. Great vid like always ^^ Cheers from the land up north with vikingsbeards and hot blonds (sweden) :)
This is great.
how long can filler material remain as it is
... i mean after repair
As long as the metal around it, as long as the filler is applied, primed and painted properly.
"The reason its called all you need, is because- its all you need"
That stuff is too expensive. I buy "all you have" because that's all I have..
So just leave the dent how it is. Gotcha 😉
The problem with that dent is the paint was damaged anyway. but yes PDR is good.
Looks like you added too much hardener I use a little dot and it does the trick
Yeah that's was easy more than a 1 to 50 ratio lol
Most people don’t go to school for autobody. They can still do a pretty good job and will look good and not fail for a while but to fully understand the faults in their work they would have to talk to someone who has been to school or go to school and that’s not always easy. Before going to school I would do similar repairs, nobody is perfect you learn from mistakes. Nobody was born with the knowledge of doing body work and repairing cars.
Yep this has been posted before
He just over catalyzed the puddy and didn’t pull the dent why he did that I don’t know
if i don't have grease wax remover can i use thinner to clean?
Not an expert here but have been told to use isopropyl alcohol. Gonna do some work on my truck with that myself soon.
Just out of curiosity, which many of the guys in the panel business fail to repair all the other shit on the inside which gets damage through repair or collision damage, obviously you can't see with all the covers and trim, most of them make a living on theiving the insurance companies with the help of curupt assessors, also explains why our premiums are so high when they over quote. DIY is the best way of knowing what has been done to your pride and joy, the $800 would be a cash job, through insurance would almost be $2500!
I think you should have pulled that dent up a bit more before you decided to start filler, always try to use a less filler as you probably can
Learning Paintless Dent Repair
Dave, how can I get my grubby hands on one of your Custom Spray Mods custom shirts?
BOG THE 8TH WONDER OF THE WORLD or or panel beaters POT OF GOLD
v good nice explan
I tried pushing and pulling a bad dent on my car. Had to fill and paint in the end. For interest here is my car fix: th-cam.com/video/rwUG-kxHIJE/w-d-xo.html
I just subscribed .... I'm tired of looking at that debt in my car cos the cost is gonna give me a heart attack
yeah I barely know body and he's got me questioning shit
I like watching videos thinking I'm gonna try it but never do
Please take a survey to see how many of us would prefer NO background music 🙏
No mask?no nitrile gloves?Hmm looks like my younger days LOL
Fuck taking it to the panelbeaters i can do this at home 😊
Lmao, By the time i would be done filling the hole The entire fender would have bondo on it. No really i'm not kidding, But i did learn not to whip it. I always whipped it, nobody ever told me how to do it. Thanks
Fuck !!!! me ... hitting filler , pmsl
Glue tabs with a slide would have worked much better.
Do you sand the dent before applying the bondo?
iamanubertuber yes
do you think i should try to do this on my car ? or it's more likely to be a waste of my time ?
iamanubertuber If it's not very big and you are good with yours hands & follow the rules you can DIY to save a lot. Go to any automotive paint shop & give them your correct color code number. Get one regular spray can, all the materials you should be able to buy right there.
I was thinking doing the filling portion and then having maaco paint it. I tried spray painting a small scratch and it looked messy
A scratch is totally different to work with. After it is filled in & sanded it is very simple to paint as it should be a smooth surface. If your having any kind of troubles it's best to just have it done by other means. I wouldnt do any of the work before bringing it in as they will charge you the same price as if you hadn't. Good luck..
I am a second year student in a vocational school (which is a school where you can go into any traid examples are auto mechanics and auto body) and im in auto body. My teacher would kill you if you hit the paint surface with the hammer. With a hammer and dolly, the dolly sits on the original contour around the low spot and you hit the dent out from the back with the hammer. And thats the wrong kind of hammer, you need somethinv called a pick hammer.
Im in the same program and the only thing that was correct was (pick hammer?
+ your gonna remove that paint so there no right or left as long as the panel is straight. 80% of the time you can't get the hammer on the back of the panel.
Well boys (girls) I hope that by now (four months later) you see the error of your ways. Most would use weld on nails and a slide hammer, but given this is DYI and the equipment is not available there is nothing wrong with this approach and the the technique is just fine. Dolly behind, hammer on the face = Okay. You might rough out the dent with a dolly from behind, but you should never "hammer out" this sort of dent from behind. If the primer is properly prepared and the paint blended correctly this job will be just fine. You're both a little full of yourselves and are pretty good example of a little knowledge being dangerous.
ok .... if you say so
RageGamer you know nothing obviously. The type of hammer you use depends on the dent and the shape of the face of the hammer for the job whether stretching or shrinking etc.
You can dolly from behind if in this case you can't swing a hammer
When quoting your teacher at school remember the old saying.
Those who can 'do'. Those who can't 'teach'.
"Trade", not "traid"
i have seen this before?
I seen yall at a walmart arguing with an old lady over a terrible job had the wife kids and everything there
He’s Australian you twat. What Walmart are u talking about?
I would charge $250.00 to repair the dent and I would take about 2 hrs. without paint dry.
it only took 19 minutes!
Tottaly wrong way to repair dent it can reduced by pulling it smooth and right by several methods than use body filler
Not everyone has a spraygun.
he put way too much hardener..
thats ok if you want it to look like moon base alpha.
Bag of air boss man
Turkey Turks at it again I'm the original gypsy ASPHALT PAVING baby
Lol... laughable!! I'm embarrassed for you!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
They wanted to charge him $850 for that little ass dent FTTTTTF
$850 ????
i was like what in the actual asss too
Whoever said $850 deserves to be shot
Fck it I’m going to a shop
by the time you buy all the tools and paint and all the hours its gonna be pretty close to $800 and will look like shit ti compared to professional, not worth it if your trying to save a few bucks but u want to do it for fun then go ahead, that primer is good shit ISO free aswell
Google Harbor Freight. That $800 in tools is more like $37.50.
HAN SPAN FEN!!!
his shit
A real panel beater ...wouldn't need filler , go ask granddad
Why? =)
Then PDR was invented
Its highly unnecessary to spend $50 on a small can of filler when you can spend $20 on a bigger can of evercoat filler
Please find a better video to take lessons from, too many mistakes to count in this one.
mr car man ok -- alright if your an n00b like me
Where are the mistakes
2nd
Did you seriously call your ranger a truck?
Filler doesn’t stick to paint, that job will last a year or two and then fail.
False. ^^^
customspraymods True. If the paint is prepped, i.e. roughened with sandpaper, the filler will stick to it. What you did was not that; what you did was a dodgy job.
@@ehonda2718 I thought he sanded it
wtf is this guy doing lmao
