    I love watching you. I worked in nursing as a PSW for years before my current job and business. I worked in long term care facilities. I loved my nightshifts but it was hard after having so many kids. The hours in nursing were tough, props to you mama. I'm so proud of you! #workingmoms

      You are so kind! I prefer night shift because I’ve always been a night owl, once I got my infant son on a more night shift friendly schedule it was perfect. Once he’s in school and back on a traditional schedule I’ll probably end up going to days so I can maximize time with him, but it’s definitely a challenge coordinating everything! 🤍

      Yes super busy! But I can’t complain. It was super crazy going back to work during a pandemic at 6 weeks postpartum was hard, but now it’s pretty much back to life as usual!

      It was a bit adjustment at first but I’m super used to it now. It’s like eating or drinking, just another thing I have to do regularly 😄

    I am a night shift nurse. Used to work the ED but work in PACU now. The ED got to be too much for me. I’ve been a nurse for almost 20 yrs. it wears on you.

    • @AmyBales
      @AmyBales  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can 100% see how it could get to be too much. More days than not I think “that was a LOT” when walking back to my car and I’m not even the nurse! It feels as if it’s always full throttle even when you wouldn’t expect it to be 😅 I think the PACU would be a great place to work, the nurses in our PACU are so kind and great with nervous patients.

    I have the same drying rack for pump and bottle parts! I'm lucky enough that i have the cupboard space and it fits inside so I can keep it closed up.

      Our city buses just cut people off left and right and literally stop dead in the street with no warning!!! It’s the worst. The bus cut me off, slammed on its breaks before the intersection, went through and then stopped. Didn’t let anyone on of off. Like what is going on?!? 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

    Amy, when do you think is the best time to have a child when wanting to be a nurse? I’m in school now and feel like it’s probably better to have a child while still in school, rather than be pregnant while on my feet all the time and feeling the stress of being a nurse. It’s a lot to think about so any advice would be sincerely appreciated!! Does your husband care for your kids while you work?

    • @AmyBales
      @AmyBales  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would honestly say in school. It was easier being in school and them being flexible about a baby/me doing zoom into class versus work. I’m glad my son is already almost 1 year when I became a nurse because it would’ve been horrible being gone three nights a week for 12 hours with a newborn

    I work in a level 1 Trauma center/ER, i gauge the night by how many helicopters fly over my house!

    • @AmyBales
      @AmyBales  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ours is a level one trauma center too, but the only helicopters we really get is burns! Next door is the best children’s hospital in the state and they have constant helicopters.

    • @bryceshaw5937

    I have a cna interview for the Ed tomorrow. Any tips? What do you think really helped land you that job?

    • @AmyBales
      @AmyBales  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I talked about how I felt very comfortable working in a fast paced environment, I was very flexible and would be happy doing whatever, and I personally waited until I was a senior nursing student to get a tech job because I didn’t feel ready, but I finally felt ready now, so I added that in. I also had clinicals at this hospital before on other units and I talked about how I loved the team work on the other units and it was something I wanted to be a part of, as it was different than any other hospital I’d been at. Good luck, you’ll do amazing and even if it doesn’t go the way you hope there’s never a shortage of healthcare jobs!

    What are some differences from working on a floor compared to the ER as a tech?

    • @AmyBales
      @AmyBales  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The floor isn’t as fast faced, very quiet at night for the most part, less turn over and more down time. More tasky mundane things. In the ED it was very awake all night, walking 5 miles in just a few hours, very heavy on the physical labor pushing beds constantly, the same thing repeating over and over in areas like intake (vitals, get their history and reason for being seen, blood tests, CT, etc). I miss the ED a lot but I don’t miss some of the patients or harder to stomach things. Pretty much everyone is kind and thankful on Mother Baby, even with the same at-risk patient population.
